It might be worth giving the swaddle a go for a couple of nights and see how it works. Lydia likes to wave her arms around and although swaddling her used to work like a dream now she fights to get her arms out and that wakes her up but if the arm waving is waking her up then preventing that could work. The last couple of weeks we've been leaning the moses basket matress against the radiator before we put her in, works every time. She's such a fuss pot with anything cold we realised it was the change in temp from person to basket that woke her up rather than being put down.

@nc1990 does she nap during the day at all? You need to get the sleep when you can and fuck off everything else that you would do. Is there any chance you're aneamic too? It's so easy to miss when they aren't sleeping well. I was eating badly too so it didn't help matters. Shame the last thing you want when you're sleep deprived is a salad 😂

lydiangel83 · 30/12/2017 03:17

@NC1990 yes I feel you, and it's hard to explain to other people. I've never been a great sleeper including during pregnancy but this is a new level. I've been borderline aneamic for a long time and taking Floradix when I remember. Not sure if helps but makes me feel like doing something for myself at least!

Hi all, i think Eve is starting to get her first cold. Me and my husband have it and have tried so hard not to pass it on. She is crying a lot more, only sleeping for short bouts of time, feeding every 2 hours and she's really snotty.
Is there anything I can do to help soothe her? How long will it last?

Also, want to wish you all a happy new year. We've all had an incredible 2017, i hope you and your new families have a happy and healthy 2018 x

TheLionQueen1 · 31/12/2017 16:28

Happy new year all! Jack has just come out the other side of a 2 week cold @Squigglefish , it wasn't fun to be honest! We gave him nasal drops regularly to keep his nose clear then baby Vicks at night and, as he was over 2 months, I gave him calpol too at night. Lots of cuddles too! Hope he gets better soon Thanks

TheLionQueen1 · 31/12/2017 16:28

She sorry!! X

lydiangel83 · 31/12/2017 21:39

Happy new year ladies 😘 x thanks for everything

NC1990 · 31/12/2017 23:32

Happy new year ladies! Thanks for lending an ear when I need a whinge 😁

Currently in bed with DD while DH tries to stop the dog having a meltdown at all the fireworks! Xxx

ew1990 · 31/12/2017 23:47

I've just finally managed to get DD to sleep after an hour of trying - she rarely sleeps in the day just the odd 20 minutes here and there. I don't know how to get her to sleep longer, she gets so overtired come night time

mrsjkerry · 01/01/2018 13:09

@ew1990 I feel you! My baby didn't sleep until 4AM!

Happy new year everyone xx

ew1990 · 01/01/2018 13:45

It was the worst night we've had, slept for ten minutes then screamed, gave her a feed and nappy change then she slept for about half an hour, then cried again till half 4, she then had a bit of another bottle fell asleep for 15 minutes then woke again, she gave up at 6am and finally went down

Bobbiepin · 01/01/2018 19:39

Oh no @ew1990 that sounds like a really rough night. I hope you get a better night tonight. Did you manage to nap at all during the day?

Dd has her first cold, she's so snotty bless her. She's not fed very well so I'm hoping she takes her bottle tonight and sleeps. She was coughing a lot from about 5am, she'd go back to sleep but start coughing again 10 mins later so although she slept, I didn't! We're meant to be going to hartbeeps on Wednesday, not sure if its a bad idea to take her if she's still got a cold. I'm fine taking her out but not sure if other parents would be shitty about potentially spreading a cold around.

ew1990 · 01/01/2018 23:01

No but she's slept better today, she's currently having a screaming fit again, the only way she will stop is if I lay her against my chest. I did fall asleep half 7-10 which probably means I won't sleep tonight, DP did the feeds last night so I could get a bit of sleep whilst she was quiet, he said there's no point in us both being awake.

I have no advice re the cold as DD hasn't had one yet, I'm dreading her getting her first one

NC1990 · 01/01/2018 23:04

@ew1990 I have a cat-napper too, we rarely get decent naps during the day and it can be such a pain. I'm scared to say this, but things have been much better for us the last few days. Ranitidine seems to be helping and DD is now really content lying on her back, she would scream previously if we dared to lay her down. She's sleeping well during the night but still waking every 2-3 hours for feeds 😩 we did get two 4-hour stretches the other night which was a minor miracle, hasn't happened since though!

We still have the fussy periods but I'm guessing that's totally normal as she's still only 7 weeks. Hoping it'll pass soon.

ew1990 · 01/01/2018 23:07

We were having really good nights off sleep from 11-8 with one wake for bottle then straight back to sleep! She just seems like a Velcro baby lately I can't leave the room 🙄 I'm hoping she's having a growth spurt or something so is being fussy (she's 9 week on Friday)

NC1990 · 01/01/2018 23:20

I'll bet it's a growth spurt and she'll be back to sleeping better once she's out of it. 11-8 with one feed sounds amazing 😁 I look forward to that one day!

It's bloody freezing here, DD seems fine in her Grobag while I'm under the world's thickest duvet with a hot water bottle ❄️️

ew1990 · 01/01/2018 23:23

I'm not even sure if I should be trying to introduce a nap routine in the day, I haven't got a clue, should I just let her sleep when she wants or?

ew1990 · 01/01/2018 23:26

She's currently been asleep on me for about half an hour, gunna attempt to put her down 🤞🏻🤞🏻

lydiangel83 · 02/01/2018 19:00

@ew1990 @mrsjkerry I feel your pain we have had a few horrendous nights, screaming in pain :( took her to doctor today they said probably wind so gave us baby gaviscon. I'm not convinced but will give it a try!!

ew1990 · 02/01/2018 19:07

@lydiangel83 aww hope it's sorted soon. She finally gave in at 5 this morning and went to sleep 😴

lydiangel83 · 03/01/2018 02:01

@Bobbiepin I hope cold better did u go to hartbeeps in the end? We start next week!

@NC1990 how did u end up on ranitidine? I hope it helps xx

Bobbiepin · 03/01/2018 11:00

@lydiangel83 hartbeeps is today and we're going. She seems ok, still quite fussy and snotty but definitely on the mend. She was super clingy for me last night, kept crying with DH which put him in a piss poor mood. He knows she's not 100% so I don't know what he was expecting. Two babies to look after was all I needed. He managed to give me half an hour to have a proper shower before he got too stroppy.

NC1990 · 03/01/2018 18:16

@lydiangel83 we tried Gaviscon and found it made her really constipated so GP moved us into ranitidine. We've just had the dosage increased as DD gaining weight like mad! Wee chunk.

We're having a tough time with wind at the moment, she gets her burps up fine but when she naps during the day she'll suddenly wake up screaming and farting. Doesn't seem to bother her at night, just during the day. Can't wait till her digestive systems matures a bit!

Glad your LO is on the mend Bobbiepin, really not looking forward to Layla's first cold 😬

NC1990 · 03/01/2018 20:06

Well I definitely cursed myself by saying things had improved. We have had the worst day so far today, she hasn't stopped crying since 9.30 this morning and has slept a grand total of 1.5 hours in that time. She's lying next to me screaming right now and I've no idea how to make it better. She's been fed, changed, burped, cuddled, white noise on, nothing! Well at least we got 3 days where life didn't feel like hell...
