I thought I would start a new thread because we finally passed the 500 post mark.

This is a pretty quiet thread - I think too many of us have been moving house. Our move is well and truly over (thank heavens) - well at least for the short term, we still have the small matter of emigrating in November with an 8 week old and a 3 year old which should be a barrel of laughs...

Otherwise I am bumbling on nearly 31 weeks and actually feeling ok despite no sleep, spd type pain at night and lots of time at the hospital because DS2 is so big and needs constant monitoring.

How are you all doing - time is flying we'll be doing birth announcements soon...

Hello, everyone! I've been PC-less these last few days. Been wondering how you all are. Well, I am still pregnant - 37+3!! I can't believe I have come this far - I am soooo pleased this baby won't be pre-term now! Have calmed down a lot since starting my "Fear Of Childbirth" thread - still scared but I think the hormones are kicking in to calm me down a bit. Knowing I'm not going to have a pre-term baby has also made me less stressed. Thanks for thinking of me, Highlander
I am gettin uncomfortable now, though - so hard keeping up with dd. The head is so low now - bouncing around on cervix. Ankles look disgustingly fat. Boobs seem worryingly small (ie. bump is so huge it makes massive football-tits look insignificant )
At least the weather has cooled down.
Take care, all xx

Hi everyone....

Ja9 - I am on the rasperry leaf tea.....and I started last Sat when babys head was still free since then I am now 3/5th head engaged - yippee!

I was taken into hospital on Monday as protien in urine at ++ they did a kidney scan but all was ok, BP fine so they discharged me! Frustrating thing is the different registrars staff kept saying diff things, My LMP didn't exist as I had D&C last Sept after mc, no period in Oct and in Nov it was around 20th, then I had a heomorrage bleed on 2nd Dec, and thats the date they are using as LMP....but I was keeping OPKs which would indidcate I am a week ahead! So I measure 38+4 and scan etc agrees with that, but the dates they are going by is 37 +2.....frustrating really, but then I guess baby will come when baby is ready.

Dejags - know what you mean about state of hormones. I am all over the place. I was buying a card in the craft shop yesterday and started to cry because I saw the with sympathy cards next to the Thank you cards. Bizarre and irrational.

I am getting spurts of wild energy and then an asleep almost comotosed - one minute I have a list of 1000 chores I want to do, next moment I can't be assed to do anything.

Come on baby, I'm a waiting now!

Love
to you all.

When can you start the raspberry leaf tea? I seem to remember about 36 weeks but want to make sure.

cazzybabs · 20/08/2004 12:32

I thought it was 36 weeks too - all I can remember was it tasted yuck. Still if it makes things hurt less I 'll be drinking it again. Is anyone or their dp doing perinal (sp?) massages?

dejags · 20/08/2004 13:21

You can get raspberry leaf tea (from Holland & Barrett) which is flavoured and comes in teabags - a vast improvement on the loose leaf tea I remember from my first pregnancy - having said that I have only tasted it once or twice because cannot drink the stuff because I have an irritable uterus.

Many say that you can take the tea from 24 weeks (1 cup per day) graduating up to 4 cups a day by 38 weeks.

dejags · 20/08/2004 13:23

re. perineal massage - I did this religiously everyday with DS, even when reaching became not only very undignified but bloody uncomfortable too. I did not need any stitches.

This time round I have meant to and have the wheatgerm oil next to my bed but just can be bothered - interested to see if I need stitches.

OP posts:
cazzybabs · 20/08/2004 16:35

I got my dp to do my perineal massages last time and I didn't need any stiches either. but I can't be bothered either - oh god I can imagaine the tear right now - maybe I will do it, along with my pelvic floor and swimming!!!

I shall try the h and b tea if you say it tastes better - it can't taste any worse!

eyelash · 20/08/2004 16:43

I was going to get the raspberry leaf tablets this time around as I couldn't stomach the tea. Holland & Barrett seem to do them.

re perinal massage - again something I keep meaning to do but haven't started yet. Will tonight - just need mental image of uncomfortable tears last time around - ouch.

ja9 · 20/08/2004 23:45

Hey girls!

I had my first 2 cups of r.l.tea today. Got it from Holland & Barrett - thought it was quite nice actually. As for the massage - it is wheatgerm oil that is best? Do you think its too late to start now? I wandered into the childbirth section tonight and read the thread about 2nd and 3rd degree tears.... now i'm absolutely terrified!!

Love to you all.xx

dinny · 21/08/2004 21:01

Hello, everyone. How are you all doing? I am waddling round feeling like I have a grapefruit between my legs - think am fully engaged now. 38 weeks tomorrow - beginning to think I may actually reach full-term!
What is raspberry leaf tea supposed to actually do? Dinny x

dejags · 22/08/2004 11:28

Hello, how is everybody doing?

We are fine - went swimming yesterday which was great. Nice to feel weight free for an hour - I can't wait to get back into pre-pregnancy clothes and to shift some of this lard. I have put on sooooooo much weight , haven't weighed myself but can just tell from how tops etc fit that I am a fatso. Saw a friend on Friday and she told me that I look ginormous - lovely!

Everything is now organised - bags are packed for me and DB, completely organised for DS when I need to go into hospital and my house is pristine - so just need to sit back and wait.

DH nearly fell off his chair - I got out of bed yesterday, went straight downstairs and before I had even had a cup of tea I had completely emptied and scrubbed out the fridge - he thinks its great, the house has never been so tidy

Hi everyone!!!!! Back off holiday now - had a good time but glad to be home!

Pregnancy-wise I am so fed-up .... SPD-wise I am in agony. Sometimes I don't feel so bad but then find sitting in the car sets the pain off for example.. Sleeping is a nighmare - I have to sleep virtually sitting up in order to avoid any pain which is uncomfortable in other ways!!!

I am so big as welll - in my last pair of trousers and dress now!!

Oh well.... 10 days till Sept 1st!! Am feeling nervous but also glad that this nightmare of a pregnancy is almost over! Have another growth scan tomorrow so this date may be earlier but I think this is unlikley as baby seems to be moving well.

How is everyone else doing?

dinny · 22/08/2004 20:47

Thanks, Dino - how are things going with you? Lots of sleepless nights....?
Am 38 weeks today - can't believe am still pregnant!

Morning Everyone. Anyone else wake up and think please God, let labour start today..... I can't keep cleaning - surley? Who keeps making the mess anyway! I am even finding stuff to do. I no longer believe in the nesting instinct - I think its more infactuation that the house has to look perfect for all visitors and because there is not a lot else to do.

38 weeks today. Rasperry tea has not yet bought anything more eventful than lightning pains. Anyone else have these or had them in other pgs? Its like that sharp pain when you have a smear test - a the top of the cervix, stabs and then goes? Is this anything? Baby was really active last night and I kept getting these stabbing flashes - got excited and thought maybe labour was inmiment - no such luck....

Hope everyone has a nice day, its pretty wet and miserable here in Surrey.

Just wanted to wish all you September mums to be the best of luck. I was in your situation this time last year. DD2 was due on 1st September, arrived on 2nd, I didn't finish work until I was 39 weeks.

Good Luck girls

Mog · 24/08/2004 15:56

I'm nearly 37 weeks but can't wait for this baby to arrive as I'm getting worn down looking after 2 pre-schoolers.
I took RLT with my first pregnancy and had 5 days of contractions before anything happened. Second labour didn't take it and had a 3.5 hour labour, 10 days early! Needless to say I'm not taking it this time!!!

Distracted · 24/08/2004 21:03

Haven't been on here for ages I'm afraid so just about catching up. Hope you don't mind me joining in for a bit of support, having not posted anything in absolutely ages (and it's a long post - sorry)!

I have one of the later due dates (27th September) so am only 35 weeks now. But seems like I have polyhydramniosis (too much amniotic fluid) so instead of my measurements roughly matching how many weeks pregnant I am, last week I was 38 cm and today I'm 42 cm! Got to go and see the consultant on Thursday to see what he wants to do and have another ultrasound to see what the baby is up to as none of the midwives can feel much of the baby through all my fluid (thought it might be breech last week).

Am feeling quite depressed now, as I am only finishing work tomorrow and have been so tired recently I've been so looking forward to my 4 weeks rest before I'm due, so that I can catch up a bit before all the sleepless nights with a newborn (rest anyway for the 3 days a week that my 2 year old is in nursery)! Now it seems like I won't be allowed to go full-term. Apparently there's a big risk that if my waters break then the cord will be sucked down onto my cervix underneath the baby, who will then squash it and be starved of oxygen and the bigger I get I suppose the greater the chances of my waters going (wonderful thought when you live about an hours drive from the nearest hospital). Seems like I might have to be induced so that my waters can be broken in a controlled way. I know I am getting a bit ahead of myself here - this is just what my local midwife told me and I haven't yet seen the consultant, but all these possibilities are just going round and round in my head now.

Also tried to look up polyhydramniosis on the internet and just found lots of links that seem to indicate that it could be linked with birth defects (wish I hadn't looked now)!

Am I right in thinking that a long time ago on the original September thread someone else mentioned having extra scans because they had excess fluid?

Does anyone else have any experience of this?

dejags · 24/08/2004 21:29

Distracted,

I have PH - well at least they thought I did - belly measured 33cms at 28 weeks and set alarm bells ringing. I know that I am carrying a large baby because I have had four weekly scans since 24 weeks. I think the combination of a big baby, lots of water and my physical shape are the reasons for the excessive measurement.

I have been poked, prodded, been sent for umpteen blood tests and guess what - now that I am 37+4 they are finally agreeing with me that I just carry big and yes I probably do have a lot of water.

Have you had growth scans? If so, is your baby growing normally and what was the measurement of your liquor volume? My deepest vertical pool at any given stage was 7.5cms but has recently decreased which is normal in the last few weeks of pregnancy. My belly is ginormous (as a friend so kindly put it) and am not allowed to forget it, despite being fairly average otherwise.

I have been pushed from pillar to post about this, there has been talk about induction, incorrect dates, gestational diabetes, you name it. The upshot of it all is that I told them after three hospital appointments in one week (at 35 weeks) where they found nothing wrong that I wasn't going to come to anymore appointments if there was no medical reason for it. Sorry for rambling but it is my biggest bugbear at the moment - I haven't been allowed to enjoy this pregnancy with all the worry they have caused.

If you haven't had a growth/liquor measurement scan - push for one and if you need any further info, you can get hold of me via CAT.

FWIW I also researched this and got all the information about higher rates of birth defect and got very upset about it - I spoke to my MW about it and she reassured me that it was highly unlikely. She reminded me that when my waters broke with DS1 it was gumboots all round - my waters gushed for hours and they still had to break the hindwaters a couple of hours later...

dejags · 24/08/2004 21:34

Sorry for my previous epic post folks...

We are otherwise well - loads of BH and broken sleep but no other problems really. MW is not available next week because of the bank holiday so I am not due to see anybody now until 39+2, unless I choose to make an appointment with my gormless GP who couldn't find a baby's heartbeat with a sonicaid if his life depended on it.

So next time I see my MW it will be with baby as I am booked in for a sweep on 8th Sep if nothing has happened by then.

Time is flying by, wonder who will be first - my guess would be Dinny.

Saddy · 25/08/2004 10:05

Hi everyone -

I know I am pretty new - but my due date is either 31st August or 7th September depending on which OB you speak to - LOL!

Distracted - ((hugs)) I totally understand what you are going through. At 36 weeks I was 40cm and midwife sent me for a scan as thought I was carrying too much amnionic fluid. Went to the scan the next day - terrified, and baby weighed 7Ib and there was a proportional amount of amnionic fluid - nothing to be concerned about. But, I was back and forth from the hospital every other day for almost two weeks because my protien in the urine was ++ - I was even admitted for two nights. Again, no talk of induction or anything suchlike.

Do these Drs really think just because we are pregnant we can go running to the hospital every other day? I know its all done in patient care but really - just to get your BP or urine done - its a drag.

I would say - don't worry - get the scan and see what shows up then.

I am due to see my Ob today at 2pm. And I am going to have to wimp out on everything I have stood by and beg for him to consider induction next week. I am 44cm, 5ft and struggling. I sleep for about an hour, wake, etc all night long and I am exhausted and I don't think I can keep this up another two - maybe three weeks. People tell me I am on a hiding to no-where, but I have got to ask.

My midwife recc. eating pineapple yesterday to start labour. I ate a whole pineapple - and nothing. I am drinking raspberry tea and taking rasperry leaf pills - nothing............I bought the caster oil - but am wary of taking it....anyone else tried this?

Love to everyone, ((hugs)) to distracted.

Sorry Jacksmum - of course you are going to be first. I envy you knowing when it will all be over

There has been a lot of confusion around my dates but I am going with the latest possible date to avoid being disappointed i.e. 12th Sep.
