I thought I would start a new thread because we finally passed the 500 post mark.

This is a pretty quiet thread - I think too many of us have been moving house. Our move is well and truly over (thank heavens) - well at least for the short term, we still have the small matter of emigrating in November with an 8 week old and a 3 year old which should be a barrel of laughs...

Otherwise I am bumbling on nearly 31 weeks and actually feeling ok despite no sleep, spd type pain at night and lots of time at the hospital because DS2 is so big and needs constant monitoring.

How are you all doing - time is flying we'll be doing birth announcements soon...

Thought I'd add another note ... Had a spa night last night with a couple of friends and booked myself a full body massage - it was bliss... pure bliss! Even baby enjoyed him/herself and was kicking and wriggling away while the music was playing! We then went for a pub meal with... white chocolate torte for pudding ..yum!

If you get the opportunity to spoil yourselves before baby comes... please take it... you will not regret it I assure you!!

highlander · 27/07/2004 18:47

I got the date for my CS - morning of 13th September!!!!! I even got a choice of dates but I thought the Monday would be better. At the moment I'm first on the list (oh no, have to be there for 6:30am) but apparently I'll have my catheter out by tea time and should be (gingerly) up and about by then. A theatre is put aside for electives twice a week so there's no chance of having to hang around all day and wait for the emergencies to be done.

And,if everything goes smoothly.... I can go home on Tues afternoon!!!!!!!!

jacksmumto1 · 27/07/2004 19:32

that's my birthday!! (30th... )

That is quick - in on Mon and out on Tues? We have to stay in for a minimum of 73 hours at the hospital I am going to for my cs. When I had ds - 2.47am on the thurs morning, I wasn't allowed home till sat morning at about 11am. I wish I could go home that quick!!!!!

Can't get any idea of dates now till Monday... feeling worried as I don't know what is happening.....

We ought to start a 'birth date' list!!!

highlander · 27/07/2004 20:16

aww Jacksmum, can you have a big party to ease the pain? The worst thing I felt at 30 was knowing I wouldn't have another big party until I was 40! (and probably wrinkly by then ).

jacksmumto1 · 27/07/2004 20:41

We've made an executive decision that I will be 29 1/2 this year and then I can celebrate my 30th next year! . Going to be an odd September as it is our wedding anniversary on the 2nd so we can't celebrate that with a meal out as we very likely will have a baby here... Can I postpone September ...please??? Our babies are due in August ok?!

dejags · 02/08/2004 16:34

Hi, well ... had another growth scan today and all seems to be well - the last growth scan was "wrong" due to some measuring error.. and they are happy that the baby is fine and growing well.

My booked cs date is now the 1st Sept - supposed to be the 31st August but they (hospital) were booked up and I wanted the 1st if I could anyway!!

So 4 weeks to go!!!!!

How is everyone else doing?

highlander · 02/08/2004 19:18

crikey, this is the last full month of pregnancy.

I'm very, very nervous!!

dejags · 02/08/2004 20:47

Highlander - can't remember what your due date is...

OP posts:
dinny · 02/08/2004 21:00

Hi Dejags, Highlander and everyone else. We are all so quiet, I agree! Dejags, I posted on your "irritable uterus" thread the other day. How are you feeling? I'm just finishing a course of antibios which (I think) has given me the squits (sorry!) - at least I hope it's that and not imminent labour. I have a big milestone coming up - dd was born at 35+5 and that is my gestation this coming Friday. Quite scared. Hope I don't have this baby early. Starting to get really scared of labour now - even though my last one was fast and didn't tear. Can remember exactly how much it hurt now! Also really do NOT want to be in boiling hot hospital but have to as not allowed homebirth

dejags · 03/08/2004 09:13

It's raining, it's pouring... hallelujah - I am normally a really sunshine lover but I have found it such hard going in the heat... absolutely delighted that it's cooler today...

Dinny - I am sure you will get past the elusive 35+5 on Friday (crossing fingers and toes for you) - how big was your first at this gestation?

I know what you mean about boiling hot hospitals - the MW kept on telling us that the labour ward was air-conditioned, hahaha... when we had a tour it was positively sweaty... would hate to know what it's like when it's really hot. Added to that it's a new building so the windows only open an inch (literally) ..

Jacksmum - glad to hear that your growth scan went well - I have another one next Tuesday and the plan of action for delivery will come off the back of that...

OP posts:
dinny · 03/08/2004 14:10

Hi, Dejags and all,
Well, I am in an absolutely FOUL mood today - don't know if it's the humid weather/hormones or what but I am SO moody and tearful. Been shouting at dd for not much at all - poor thing. Keep getting really annoyed about things like litter-strewn streets and men spitting on pavements. REALLY have to get out of London! Rant over!
Dejags, dd was 6lb7 at 35 +5 - reckon this one is bigger if anything. How much do they think your baby is weighing at the mo? Dinny x

dejags · 03/08/2004 14:49

Dinny,

know exactly what you mean - I have also been in a SERIOUSLY grumpy mood - I was cursing being pregnant last night - I am so huge.

I know it bugs everybody but I am really getting fed up of everybody saying - another 6 weeks to go - you are HUGE!!! it really gets me going. We are going to a wedding on Saturday and I am going to tell a white lie to the "commenters", I'll just say that I am due end of the month to avoid their looks of disbelief...

DB was estimated to be in excess of 6lbs at my last consultant visit at 32 weeks. So we are looking at a 10lber at birth... I am not complaining I much prefer a big baby.

OP posts:
highlander · 03/08/2004 19:22

dinny, fingers crossed for you, I'm sure everything will be fine.

I don't know if it's too early to tell, but my sprog will apparently be small, no more than 7lbs at the time of CS (38+5). She doesn't seem worried, and he kicks like a mule but I don't feel like I'm growing any more. I thought this was supposed to be the exponential phase of growth!

Ah well, another appt next week.

dinny · 03/08/2004 20:24

Dejags, I have started lying to strangers about my due date - saying it's in two weeks' time! Well, it may be...

I am getting so ratty as can't bend over properly to pick up the millions of toys dd chucks round. Also HATE all my mat clothes (the few that still fit!) Also, saw a photo of myself from back at the start of July and I was HUGE then - must be obscenely massive now! ALSO, dh says I look like "a barrel" when pregnant - thanks a f**king lot! GRRRRRRR. Glad I'm not the only one who is seriously MOODY.

Highlander, why are you having a C section? Am curious - is it elective?

Stay cool in this heat. Dinny x

highlander · 03/08/2004 20:51

dinny you poor pet - it's nae fun being big. I still can't get my head round the fact that people HAVE to comment on a pregnant woman's physical apppearance. I also can't bend over so I exist in sandals or slippers - DH has to tie my laces if I wear trainers!

It's really reassuring to hear of everyone else being totally pissed off at this stage - I was worrying that I was going to have bonding problems as I'm desperate to offload!

I'm having a truly elective CS. I'm thinking of buying some fabric paint and making a wee 'too posh to push' t-shirt. The looks on people's faces when I tell them..... still, deflects the conversation away from 'ooh, you're tiny/huge' whatever! I think Mears is on a mission to convert me to a vaginal birth! (what a lovely wee pet she is

dinny · 03/08/2004 20:59

I swear, the next person who comments on my size will receive a sharp retort!! Or not if feeling tearful/drippy. Can't wait until can diet and get all thin and gorgeous again . Feel like have been pregnant for ever.

Are you in Canada or the States, Highlander. Think I remember from earlier that you are. Doesn't a C scare you? Does me - more than a vaginal birth.

highlander · 03/08/2004 21:17

I keep fondling my non-pregnant clothes and ticking the days off on the calender

the thought of a CS doesn't bother me; but that's just me! However, I feel very lucky that I do have a choice and I have the resources (internet etc) to make an informed choice.

dinny · 03/08/2004 21:20

Do you have to go private for it, Highlander? Have to say, would be able to relax more if I knew date baby was coming and didn't have unpredictability of labour.

highlander · 03/08/2004 22:34

no, the Canadian College of OBs ruled last Dec that maternal request is OK.

The maternity service is run completely differently over here. To have a midwife-led pregnancy, you have to 'opt out' of the GP-led system. Not all provinces in Canada have a midwifery service.

Most women see their GP then deliver in a hospital where maternity is staffed by GPs with an obstetric interest.

As a consequence, ante-natal appts are very short and there isn't the opportunity to 'bond' with your midwife.

Childbirth is viewed as a medical procedure, with as much intervention as possible. I don't know many mums here, but the stories are horrendous.

jacksmumto1 · 04/08/2004 08:30

Just written this out once and my message was lost ..... here I go again!

I'm more nervous now I know when the baby is due to be here - is it only 4 weeks?! Having an op doesn't scare me as such but I think going into "natural" labour means when it starts.. you don't have time to actually think about it, you just get on with it - well that's my experience anyway!

Off on holiday today for 2 weeks... just wanted to wish you all a good 2 weeks and I'll post as soon as I am back! It's getting closer!!!!!

dejags · 04/08/2004 09:18

Have a good holiday Jacksmum!!

Another sweltering day to contend with and my DS (3yrs2months) is at the stage where he cannot keep quiet for even one second of his waking day. He talks incessantly and although I adore him and his chatter it was really getting on my nerves by 7pm last night... bad mummy alert

On the upside I actually had a half decent nights sleep last night - only up once for the loo and 3 or 4 times for a drink. Certainly much better than up 5 or 6 times for the loo and another 4 or 5 times for a drink. I was lousy yesterday because I was so tired.

We have the option of going with an induction at the end of the month because the baby is big - I know that if I throw the extreme tiredness into the mix and the possibility that it may aggravate another round of PND they will definitelyl do it. My instinct is to avoid it though - there have been no surprises with this baby - we know he's a he, I have had umpteen scans and I just can't decide. Have to admit that knowing when it's going to happen is a very appealing prospect... ho-hum, I have another week to decide...

Hi everyone

Not posted for ages but have been so busy.

I am due on 6th Sep so only 4 1/2 weeks to go, but I am still at work for the next 3 1/2 weeks.

Plus I am trying to complete a Uni Course and still have a 4000 word case study to start that has to be in a week on Friday.

I must be mad. Thank god my bump is quite small and I still have quite a bit of energy, although getting a bit knackered by 4.00, as I work in a hospital which is boiling

Last time I had my ante-natal I measured 33 cm at 34/4 so I don't think its going to be very big.

dinny · 04/08/2004 18:42

I'm so scared about the birth. More scared than last time (blissful ignorance!)
This is a bit of a personal area but I can definitely feel bulge where my pubic hair is - must be the head!

ja9 · 04/08/2004 19:12

Hi everyone!

Have now just arrived in stirling after having moved from aberdeen. Got booked in with a Gp yesterday. Bump measuring 38 at 35+4. They think baby might come early but don't reckon they would induce me unless i went really over. Sounds like a good number of us september ones are massive! Ah well, good things come in BIG packages too!
