I thought I would start a new thread because we finally passed the 500 post mark.

This is a pretty quiet thread - I think too many of us have been moving house. Our move is well and truly over (thank heavens) - well at least for the short term, we still have the small matter of emigrating in November with an 8 week old and a 3 year old which should be a barrel of laughs...

Otherwise I am bumbling on nearly 31 weeks and actually feeling ok despite no sleep, spd type pain at night and lots of time at the hospital because DS2 is so big and needs constant monitoring.

How are you all doing - time is flying we'll be doing birth announcements soon...

Just got home! Euan safely popped at 8:46am on Monday (4:46pm UK time), weighing 7lb 2oz after a totally fabby CS - can highly recommend it He needed to be vacuumed out cos his head was so big. As the OB said, 'bet your glad you didn't have to squeeze that out!'

Was up and walking that afternoon and stuffing my face with anything that looked VAGUELY edible. Was ready to go home on Tues but the midwives were so fantastic with helping me breastfeed they persuaded me to stay for a few more days.

Milk in yesterday (Wed), boobs enormous and engorged. Ouch. Euan is a champion feeder though; greedy bugger

Will post all the gory details later. DH can't believe the first thing I'm doing is posting on MN!

cazzybabs · 16/09/2004 20:42

Distracted I was ten days late too and am due the day before you!

Well done highlander - glad everything went OK.

dinny · 16/09/2004 21:58

Yippee, Highlander - excellent news. So glad it all went well. Have you done a birth announcement? Did they let you hold Euan in recovery after all? Used the Lanisoh yet??!!!

Cazzybabs, Distracted and Costamum - not long now!! x

highlander · 17/09/2004 22:14

Dinny, yahoo for Lanisoh!! Mears will kick my butt but I did use it for a couple of days as I could see the latch was going to take a bit of work. Really struggled to get a good latch sitting up but things have improved vastly now that I feed lying on my side. So, I only had a couple of days of bleeding nips and they're healing now. The pain wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, but hats off to everyone who has to keep feeding with weeks of raw nipples.

Mostly full tube of Lanisoh - free to a good home!

Distracted · 18/09/2004 15:22

Are there really just 3 of us left now?

Great news Highlander (have posted on your birth announcement)

How do you use Lanisoh - do you just rub it in after a feed? Didn't try any creams or anything last time and do remember how sore I was (also didn't really succeed, gave up after 3 weeks, but am going to try again this time). It's worth knowing if something really works.

Saddy · 19/09/2004 12:33

Congrats Highlander........and welcome to the world little Euan. Congratulations Lolabelle and welcome Amelia Mae.

Dinny, I was in the Royal Surrey, Guildford.

Motherhood is amazing, isn't it. Little Danny is a hungry boy, I am bottle feeding (breast reduction op made BF imposs) and I am loving every moment of mommy hood.

Love to everyone, sending labour vibes to those still waiting.

Sx

Daniel is waking for one feed in the night, about 3am, so we are feeling pretty lucky!

dejags · 19/09/2004 13:25

Saddy - sorry didn't see your posting below. Congratulations on the safe arrival of your baby boy!!

We could be the same person - mixed feeding at the moment because I have also had a breast reduction, my DS was also born on the 4th September!! Lots of coincidence there eh??

distracted - I whacked on the magic cream after every feed and it helped the old nips no end. Don't go too mad with it though as the baby might object a bit and fuss to latch. Or maybe my DS is just fussy!

cazzybabs · 21/09/2004 22:15

I am still here - which is not a suprise as am due on Sunday. Am feeling fine - quite full of energy and excited. My tens machine is arriving tomorrow and so is my new crib matress. Have found the old baby clothes - apart from hats. And tomorrow shall spent finding other bits and bobs. Still no nesting yet and the baby has been really inactive over the last few days apart from a few painful kicks in the ribs.

Anyway I keep reading the Sept. baby thread with green eyes - although talk of sore nipples and sleep deprivation is making me cross my legs. Hope other people are still waiting????

Distracted · 22/09/2004 10:35

I'm still waiting too (due Monday). Getting more and more stomach cramps and braxton hicks, but nothing yet and I suppose really I'm still not exactly feeling ready. Like you the thought of the sleep deprivation and sore nipples doesn't fill me with joy! However, feeling particularly 'not ready' this morning as dd had me up twice in the night last night, on top of the usual getting up to go to the loo and not sleeping well.

She's gone to nursery today so I had hoped to rest but we're in a new house and the builders keep coming round to fix 'snags'. Every time I lie down the doorbell rings. Have ignored it a few times, but I can never then go to sleep, plus really want as much of the work done before baby arrives as it will be much more of a pain then having builders coming in.

Distracted · 22/09/2004 10:36

Wonder if Costamum is still waiting? Maybe not as she'll be overdue now?

costamum · 23/09/2004 11:32

Hello... Distracted, you are right I am no longer waiting!!! DS arrived very promptly on Sun 19th - my actual due date!!! He is a perfect little carbon copy of DS1! He was even born at exactly the same time! How weird is that? I shall have to be careful not to make too many comparisons! Had a few pains from around 7am that Sunday morning but no regular contractions - went to the hospital after a little while - at first they were going to send me home then suddenly decided not to - told me to walk around the hospital for an hour or so, when I got back I´d dilated to 5cm - was about to get an epidural when they checked again and said it was too late I was already virtually fully dilated! And oh boy did I want to push! I had a room full of trainee matrons shouting in spanish not to push yet but to wait till we got to the delivery room! Then one of them reckoned there wasn´t time to make it to the delivery room. It was quite funny really (well not at the time!). Panic stations all round! Luckly the matron in charge appeared again and restored the calm and all ended well and really quickly and I´m quite proud that in the end I managed without the epidural!

Well, good luck over the next few days for those of you still waiting (or maybe not as the case may be!) XXX

cazzybabs · 23/09/2004 14:51

Congratulations costamum.

Well I made the mistake of saying the baby was a bit on the quiet side. In I go for a trace to be done - well it went from hardly moving to full on football player. I was there for two hours and it didn't stop moving....so now the doctor said she was worried as it's heart rate was too high and she wanted to see a trace when it was less active so I am off to hosipital again in a few minutes for a second trace. And to top it all off my blood pressure is going up again and I am so tired I just want to fall asleep.

Distracted · 24/09/2004 18:27

Congratulations costamum, that's great news. Nice to hear another positive birth story too.

Cazzybabs - hope all went well?

Maybe it's only me left now!

cazzybabs · 24/09/2004 20:35

No - I am still here. Went to the day assessment unit yesterday because of high bp and the baby being inactive. Well as soon as I got connected up to their machine it went psycho - honstly it has never moved around so much. But then the doctor was concerned because its heart rate was too high (it never dropped below 170) for 2 hours so they said we need to check if when its not moving so much....so 2 hours later I go back and the baby is not moving at all and the heart rate was now a little on the low side!!!!! SO they told me to go away and come back today for a scan. So today I went back and I had a trace again and the baby had periods of being active and being asleep which they were much happier with. And I got to have a scan - it was licking its lips and swallowing and waving its fingers. So basically it is all fine and my bp has dropped today!!!! The head is not fully engaged and it is not quite back to front so I guess still have a few days to go.

Distracted shall we have a bet on how overdue we shall go?

dinny · 24/09/2004 21:33

Congrats Saddy and Costamum! And best wishes to those still waiting! x

highlander · 25/09/2004 21:12

who's still left?

cazzybabs · 26/09/2004 10:53

I am due today....however baby seems less enagaged than yesterday. I was wondering round cambridge with the baby painfully wriggling round and felt really in my pelvis. Today walking is much easier.

Am laughing at dd who wants to do a poo and won't do it in he rpotty or the loo nor does she want a nappy on - dp is being very patient with her while I lie in bed reading Mumsnet. C'an't wait to have a person that won't answer back, will have its face washed, won't take ten hours to get dressed. Although I have decided to have more babies and then rent them out for the terrible two period!

Distracted · 27/09/2004 10:26

Still here - glad it all went well for you and all was ok in the end Cazzybabs.

Due today. Not sure if I want to tempt fate by betting on how overdue I go! I suppose our chances are pretty even if we were both 10 days late last time - although you're due before me. So my bet is on you first

I've got an antenatal appointment tomorrow and I know they'll ask about sweeps and when I would want induction etc. Dh thinks I should have a sweep on Friday if nothing has happened, as the weekend would be convenient! Last dd was born after a sweep at 8 days. Friday would only be 4 days over, so maybe too early (read something Mears wrote on another thread that it shouldn't be done too soon).

Cazzybabs - what about you (if you're still here)? Have you made any decisions about sweeps and inductions?

I'm not desperate I have to say! I'm a bit scared of labour again - wasn't a good experience last time. I am fed up with not being able to sleep properly though (but then it's probably better than all that sleep deprivation!) So - rather mixed feelings at the moment!

cazzybabs · 27/09/2004 11:40

I don't want to be induced under any cirmumstances. Also I have a saturday school for an OU course I am doing (I have an exam on the 22nd of Oct which if I pass will be a miracle!) which I really want to go to so hopefully baby will hold on till then. Am happy for a sweep but would like to wait a week and see if anything happens before then.

Still haven't had my show and I Still don't "feel ready", but maybe I am in denial about having a second baby. I looked at dd yesterday and thought OMG how will I cope (and this from the person who wants 4!!!).

eyelash · 27/09/2004 13:31

Just popping in as I am due on Thursday but have been posting on October thread as ds1 was 11 days overdue and ds2 was 14 days overdue. Avoided induction with both but had help of sweep with ds2 - although doctor pointed out that I was ready to go anyway!

I am prepared to have at least another couple of weeks but am impatient as well.

Distracted · 27/09/2004 17:13

Cazzybabs - you want 4, wow Like you I keep looking at my dd and wondering how on earth I'm going to cope with 2 - certainly don't want any more! Although they do say the difference between 1 and 2 is much bigger than between 2 and 3 etc. So once you've coped with 2 children it's not so difficult to cope with 3 or 4. Do you come from a big family by the way (I have this theory that people tend to want a similar number of children than they themselves grew up with - ie. if you were one of three, you're more likely to want 3 - I'm sure you can prove me wrong now)!

Hello Eyelash - that makes 3 of us left now then, still due in September (I should really look at the October thread shouldn't I as it's more than likely that I won't pop until October either).

Looks like all 3 of us are in a similar boat - been late with previous babies and not really quite ready yet. Cazzybabs, I thought you were a bit more keen for it all to happen? If you're like me then you've probably got mixed feelings - in one way I do want it all to just happen, but in another way I'm not feeling quite ready.

Our local NCT sales are all this coming Saturday and I would love to pick up some stuff for the baby, so maybe I should postpone the sweep until next Monday . Will see what mw says tomorrow anyway.

cazzybabs · 27/09/2004 20:56

I am an only child - I think thats why I want a big family. My dp is one of two and would be quite happy with 2. Maybe I should see how I cope with 2!

I just hate all this waiting. I wish I could know for sure what day it would come and what time so I could rest assured that dd will be happy. You see she is a real pickle and doesn't really like to be left with dp's mum (who lives where we do) and so I just worry that she will cry when we have to go...oh well at least it hasn't come now and I can watch silent witness

Distracted · 29/09/2004 10:35

Ah Cazzybabs I knew you'd prove me wrong! To be honest, I've proved myself wrong as dp and I both come from families with 3 children and we both only want 2 max. However, my brother and sister were 10 and 12 years older and I grew up much more like an only child, we didn't have family holidays, I certainly didn't have siblings I could play with and they left home when I was 7/8. dp's brother and sister are also a fair bit older - 6 and 8 years older, so again not an age to really play with him, but he did grow up with them around more.

Anyway, am waffling. Are you still around?

Eyelash are you still here?

I had my antenatal appointment yesterday and spent 2 hours at the hospital, partly waiting and then they decided baby's heartbeat was too slow (was asleep) and had to go on monitor first for 20 mins, then another 20 mins when baby decided to wake up. It was all fine in the end and I've bitten the bullet and booked a sweep for late afternoon Friday. Will have to try some other methods before then to see if it can be avoided
