Does anyone want to come and play here? There's loads of space!

hello all

another hot cross moose here. Am fed up with comments about my size and am really struggling to stay polite when people tell me I'm huge. Weirdly enough I have put on the least amount of weight with this baby (ate for Wales with DD1 and ended up weighing more than my big built, 6 ft tall dad...)but have had the most comments about the size of my bump. Will have to do something about lack of stomach muscles once this baby's here (maybe)
I am finishing work at the end of next week and I can't wait! DD1 seems to be settling well into full time school, even though she's one of the youngest in her class. She knows nearly all the children from last year, so has been fine. DD2 is still a handful but so cute as well. Last night she fell asleep on my lap with her head on the bump. I expect the baby could hear her snoring!
BTW, Toots, I think the Spatone is helping and it is certainly gentler than iron tablets, so will be continuing with it as it says it's OK for breastfeeding mothers too. Assuming I get the breastfeeding established - managed 10 weeks with DD1 and 18 with DD2, so we'll see how it goes.

Hope everyone is OK

Oh yes, a warning for all you other ladies - I managed to scald my bump the other week. I was draining a pan with boiling water in it and it splashed up over the sink and onto my tummy. Very painful and not the easiest bit to keep under running water . A good excuse to avoid all cooking, if you ask me. It's fine now but I was very upset and shaky all that day.

Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 12:51

Piglit at least yours knows the right thing to say even if you know its a pile of sh..

I think it feels so much more obvious cause it's hot and I am wearing clothes that show off my fat arms and legs.

am about to waddle up the high street to get some pg vitamins - not looking forward to it but need to get out of house for a while.

Bean I have three more days of work left - isn't it marvellous, the girls in the office are also organising a lunch for me on Wednesday so that's kind of a half day. The count down is on....

Did anyone notice the baby's movements to slowdown quite a bit after 33 weeks? My Braxton Hicks seem to be getting stronger but less moving, is that cause she has run out of room?

piglit · 06/09/2004 13:02

Turtle - I find that db wriggles now rather than moves around. M/w tells me that there really is very little room in there now and even the wriggles will slow down. I have yet to have a Braxton Hicks - am I only the one who hasn't experienced these?

beansprout · 06/09/2004 13:21

I don't think I have had them either Piglit.

Could someone tell Bean that he has less room now? My belly is beginning to look like a cartoon with different shaped bulges sticking out as Bean kicks for freedom.

Cerys that sounds awful - definitely try and stay away from the stove for now. Yes I am fat hot and grumpy - poor DS gets most of it I'm afraid. Hoping this weather won't last! Terrible I know. Have just moved at work from my lovely airconditioned room to open plan, un-air conditioned corridor more like it. Cross fingers for rain!!

On bump, I am exactly right for dates, but it just gets bigger every week by a cm so I guess I have 5cm to go. I just find it really hard to find a position which is comfy - can't lie down, can't sit, can't stand - swimming probably is the best but couldn't get into creche at gym because everyone back from holiday - bah! My legs are swelling up with odema and I got an extra-short haircut on Saturday as I thought it might be the last one for a while - but didn't think about the overall effect of small head, large bump - whoops.

BTW how are we all on the "marital relations" front? I have to admit ours is not the liveliest of bedrooms at the moment (except when DS arrives at 6.30am).

Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 13:37

Florence I am so with you on that, I feel exhausted and really want this sun to bugger off! Can't believe I said that but it's true.

Marital relations are off at the moment, DH is in spare room, and I am not referring to "Darling" . More because we are both having such a terrible sleep lately that it's helping to be in separate beds, I have assured him that will chance once DD arrives.

Your hair will grow back quickly don't worry about that. I think my hair is the only thing I like about myself at the moment. I had a very small mole just above my upper lip and it has grown lately, just realised there is a spot on top of the mole, it looks like some hideous growth, i.e. wart rather than what was a cute little mole.

beansprout · 06/09/2004 13:49

Dp and I are in the same bed, but he snores, Bean kicks and the db upstairs cries... so I feel like I am under seige.

Dp would have to stage full scale assault and get past my beloved v-cushion to get to me - ha! We are doing lots of couple stuff in case we can't for another, oooh, 5 years....

OP posts:
Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 14:01

Bean I know what you mean about the v pillow, it's a blessing now that I need so much support I don't think I could sleep without it now. 5 years!!! your optimistic!!

Bibiboo · 06/09/2004 14:09

Cerys, how's your tummy? Sounds nasty to scald yourself, so no cooking for you ever again. I have had two run-ins with the iron since my belly grew this big. Just as one burn was healing, I got a bigger, better one from stanbding too close to the ironing board and not realising until I'd bashed myself with it. Yes, I do my ironing in the nude, but I'm in a rush in the mornings and have to get something crease-free before I can get dressed anyway. Dh does it for me now though.

Turtle, glad me and dh aren't the only couple who don't share the same bed every night. We try to, but sometimes I am wriggling so much to get comfy, he slopes off to the spare room just so both of us can stretch out. I am taking up rather a lot of room lately, as does my v pillow. God bless v pillows.

florenceuk · 06/09/2004 14:27

Turtle35, IME in terms of you can write off at least the first six weeks after the birth and considerably longer in our case - although there is a thread here where a number of Mumsnetters appeared to emulate Zoe Ball....!

beansprout · 06/09/2004 14:33

What did Zoe Ball do?!!

OP posts:
Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 14:34

Bean I was just about to ask the same question!!!

cerys · 06/09/2004 14:37

Tummy is fine now, thanks. I've also used the incident to show the DDs why Mummy says they must stay out of the kitchen at certain times because hot things are dangerous and hurt a lot. I did do some ironing last night but DH tends to do it now.

If we had a spare bed, I am sure I would be in it now, as I just cannot get comfy at night. And I've got a V pillow, a cushion under my feet and a long bolster shaped pillow between me and DH. That's before the DDs worm their way into the bed in the middle of the night!

Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 14:42

Cerys I sure hope you have a big bed!! it sounds awfully full

Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 14:43

Piglit how is the puppy? I am really keen to find out how that is going when the baby arrives? I think I have almost talked DH into getting a puppy while I am off work, still working on it though.

cerys · 06/09/2004 14:53

The bed is super king size - we had one at the hotel in Disneyland Paris and it seemed huge. It wasn't full of pillows, children and a pregnant tummy then, though! Now it seems tiny!

Zoe Ball - didn't she and Fatboy Slim get intimate a couple of days after the birth of the baby? As she had a c-section, I find that hard to believe, but I'm sure that's what I read. That's not what happened in my experience, let's just say that!

piglit · 06/09/2004 14:54

Turtle - the puppy is adorable but very very very hard work. There have been so many times since we got her that I've found myself thinking "what have we done?" She is a full time responsibility and for at least the first couple of months you can't leave them for too long. I love her to bits but TBH I would really advise you to think long and hard before you get one. Don't forget - we got ours when I still had a long way to go. I definitely wouldn't get a puppy after 30 weeks - it's too much hard work just when you need to rest and look after yourself.

On the marital "relations" front things are pretty good with dh - not too much change from pre pg days. I have however told dh that he'll be lucky to get a look in before Christmas after db arrives.....

Toots · 06/09/2004 15:31

Another hot grumpy one over here. Was wondering how you lot were doing with 'relations'. I managed hot grumpy ones the other night. I was so grumpy that I told dp exactly how it had been for me - like being poked with a stick. Fortunately, he was so grateful for the rare occurence that he found this hilarious and we both laughed our socks off which was most cathartic.

I started doing perineal massage last night, anyone else giving that particular peculiarness a go?

piglit · 06/09/2004 15:44

Toots - I'm starting the perineal massage tonight. It sounds pretty grim but I am so desperate to avoid a cut or tear that I think I'd try anything.

beansprout · 06/09/2004 17:08

I was definitely going to try this one but a midwife told me that the single biggest factor is taking the advice of the midwife and only pushing when told to do so. That said, every little helps. What should we use for this anyway? (Hi mum!)

OP posts:
Turtle35 · 06/09/2004 17:08

I tried that but found it most uncomfortable not to mention very hard to reach? I wouldn't think of myself to have short arms

Toots - you gotta laugh at these things really. I loved your honesty - best way to go.

Piglit - thanks for the puppy advice, this is what sort of worries me, I was thinking after the baby is born. That way when I have an angel baby (wishful thinking) I will also have time for an angel puppy!

When are we meant to start drinking the raspberry leaf tea? has anyone started?

beansprout · 06/09/2004 17:21

I have started the raspberry leaf tea and it is RANK! I'm sure that 9 months ago I couldn't have cared less if my uterus was "toned" or not - now it suddenly seems very, very important!

Has anyone got their bag packed yet....?
(I haven't, btw)

OP posts:
codswallop · 06/09/2004 17:23

somweone tell piglit I ma looking for her when she next posts?

Toots · 06/09/2004 18:20

I think the term 'massage' isn't useful, here. It conjures up an idea of a pleasant sensation. Perhaps perineal 'yanking', 'pulling' or 'bothering' would leave people feeling less downcast by their experience

Yeah, the tea is BAAAAD. There's raspberry tablets I think. I'm going that route.

I have not packed a bag. But I have turned out the airing cupboard and bought dd's winter boots (pink suede - very practical) so feel spiritually that in a strange sort of way I have started packing. Piglit - bet the baby will seem like a piece of cake after the puppy.
