Does anyone want to come and play here? There's loads of space!

God I'm so bored at work, I've been posting like crazy on the active threads. Even entered the abortion debate which will be a killer - I'll be abandoned by the pro-choicers and swamped by the anti-abortionists soon.

What are people wearing today? I have on a black top from Next and brown linen trousers from Vertbaudet. Am thinking of bunking off work soon and going to look at sales in my lunchtime...

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 15:33

I am wearing a pink top and 3/4 length trousers from H&M MAMA, cheap, cheerful and makes me feel summery, even though it's peeing down outside

I think men are interested in buggies because they are the only baby item they can drive whilst making "vroom, vroom" noises in their heads if they are sane, out loud if they are not. I think it's a bit like having to push the trolley in tesco. It's kind of a man-rule. But I don't mind, I'd rather have control over the important, essential things like ickle booties and hats

beansprout · 06/07/2004 16:06

LOL Bibiboo! Spot on!

Have a red maternity round neck top from Next and a pair of black linen trousers. A classic maternity outfit!

Me too - bored today.

I am wearing Formes stretchy black trs from last pregnancy, black tshirt (H&M) and a regular long cardy in beige. I nearly cried this morning when I realised that most of my limited wardrobe was either in the laundry or waiting to be ironed.

I think I will have to treat myself to something new tomorrow, even if it is just to get through the next 8 weeks in work.

florenceuk · 06/07/2004 16:47

Miffy2 have you been to the Formes sale yet?

Just back from lunch-time shopping trip - splashed out and bought shoes from Camper. Also a rather yummy-looking apricot tart from Pauls in Covent Garden - got to keep my strength up...

beansprout · 06/07/2004 17:02

Have just spent 10 min in Tesco talking myself out of the chocolate dessert I really want and into the low fat yoghurt that I don't want.

Anyone else having preg. related food guilt?

OP posts:
Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 17:10

Food Guilt? All the time! Not a meal goes by when the devil/saint on my shoulders have a battle over whether I should/shouldn't have something. Unless it was something BAD like raw eggs that I knew I wouldn't eat anyway, the deciding factor used to be "Do I want my baby eating that?", but sadly now it's more like "The baby sides with me and loves chocolate fudge cake, so yaa boo sucks to you!" and I get on with muching :0

sooz31 · 06/07/2004 17:19

Love the title Bean! I'm wearing red vneck next top and off-white linen trews, and my white birkies. Nice and comfy.

Got caught in the sales - dead jealous of normal shaped women who can take advantage. So consoled myself with a purchase from the Benefit counter (got inspired by make-up thread!).

Bean - not too troubled by food guilt at the moment. Indigestion do a great job of quelling apetite.

Was in Boots (buying gaviscon, quelle surprise) and one of the ladies suddenly very interested in my pg... on finding out dates, she almost fell over in exclamation that I was only 6m pg and that hers were all small (5-6lbs). Marvellous. Bring on the chocolate - I don't care!

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 17:40

Why is it the the only thing that comes out of people's mouths now is "Ooooh, aren't you getting big?" I know they mean no harm/ are just making conversation but they soooo don't realise we hear that dozens of times each day and there's no proper answer apart from "well, yes, I suppose I am" which can sound a bit ar$ey by the 27th time you say it.
I am tempted to try the "Really? Am I? I hadn't thought I'd put on ANY weight so far!" response or would "bugger off" be more honest?
By the way, we all sound very smartly dressed today, in semi-casual maternity chic

beansprout · 06/07/2004 17:47

Totally agree Bibiboo. Absolutely everyone has something to say on my mind boggling size when I'm actually just me, plus a bump, and I wasn't big to start with. The other day I got "ooh, you look like you have exploded?"

In polite society, just what is the response to that?!!

OP posts:
sooz31 · 06/07/2004 18:04

How about 'My body is growing a beautiful and healthy baby. Remind me what it is your body is doing today?'

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 18:06

Good answer sooz, but I still think "bugger off" covers all bases and if they are being rude to us, why can't we be rude back? Or is it wrong for us pregnant ladies to say rude things? They would all look so shocked at our boldness and shake their heads in dissapproval ... hehehe

sooz31 · 06/07/2004 19:57

Anyone else finding that while sitting at desk the only comfy position is leaning forward slightly with legs wide open? good grief.

Anyone explain why women in pregnancy are referred to as 'delicate'?

I don't think so.

piglit · 06/07/2004 20:06

Thanks for starting the new thread Bean!

I squeezed into pre pg trousers today (they did have loads of "give" once upon a time) but I was obviously being far too unrealistic and as a result I have had the button undone all day. A particularly classy look methinks.

I have really really hot feet this week. Anyone else suffered from this?

Toots · 06/07/2004 23:19

piglit - yes, get hot feet at night. last time used lots of clarins heavy leg cream, blue stuff, vg - minty.

Today I wore H+M black t-shirt and khaki combats and sequined flip flops that came free with Eve magazine (that I didn't even pay for - mum subscribed me for Chrimbo). Thrilled that clothes have come up. I'm living in three pairs of H&M combats that have been passed on to me. One is cropped, two are not.

Have bought nada for bambini. Have talked endlessly to dp about buggy-based logistics ('if you take dd to nursery and leave buggy there, then I can bring db in sling and wheel both back but what about when db gets too big? DD won't want to walk all that way home when she's knacked, but if you take her in a buggy and then I come along with a double buggy (etc)' - sorry, cannot seem to get rid of that rogue wink - he quickly gets that blokey terse 'I'm going to say 'hmm' before you've finished talking to show you how dull you are'. He's right actually. Don't think I'll get on with buggy board as sure I will bang my shins on it every other step and shout 'arse' like a mad tourettey.

Only preparation we have done is blown all our spare cash on having the exterior and hall and landing decorated. Like the baby's going to give two hoots about our freshly egg-shelled woodwork!

motherinferior · 06/07/2004 23:25

Toots, how far is the walk and how old will dd be? I got my dd1 into walking to and from her childminder at less than two and a half - she is soooo not Little Miss Sporty, all I mean is that there are ways round it.

geogteach · 07/07/2004 00:53

DS went on buggy board at 26 months and refused to sit in buggy from day his sister was born, now weaning him off it as i'm not pushing 3! Think that hoping DD will do the same at 16 months may be pushing it too far so looks like the dreaded double for me!

Bibiboo · 07/07/2004 12:20

Morning gals,
I've been having some bad pains on the underside of my belly these last 2 days and I'm getting a bit worried about them. They're not stretching pains (I don't think) an it's when i wake or get up from my desk. Also baby has been very lazy and have barely felt movements - should I go see about it or is it another pg thing to grin and bear? I don't want to go see midwife when baby's has been moving (just not much) and seem like ultra paranoid woman!

piglit · 07/07/2004 12:30

Bibiboo - it might be a UTI. I had one and the pain was awful. I felt really uncomfortable on the under side of my bump and down in towards my groin. It could also be muscle pain. Up until a couple of weeks ago I had really bad pains when getting up from the bed or a chair and my chiro taught me how to stand up properly "being a pg lady" i.e., using your legs and arms rather than stomach and back. It's made a huge difference. As always though, if in doubt give your m/w a call and ask to see her if you can.

florenceuk · 07/07/2004 15:04

Bibiboo, I'd go and see your midwife if you are worried - they are used to dealing with paranoid mothers-to-be! They can also test to see if you have a UTI if you think this might be the case.

Toots, I'm hoping to get away with buggy board as DS will be almost 3, but we have two very different buggies - a 3 wheeler for just walking, and a Maclaren for nursery runs, so not sure how it will work out. DS loves running and will go a surprisingly long way, but has a tendency to shoot off, which I curb at the moment by putting him in the buggy, so I suspect I will need something. My neighbour has a very cheap Graco double for sale if you want one!

Swollen feet today - ugh. I have ordered super-dooper footrest with adjustable height to try to get more comfortable.

sooz31 · 07/07/2004 15:26

Bibi, definitely get it checked out.

Florence, am curious to know what 3-wheeler you've got? We've a maclaren already which is great but want something for longer walks to park once DB has arrived (for DB rather than DS).

Turtle35 · 07/07/2004 16:49

Hello all, Bibi you should get it checked out, no harm in being extra careful.

I had my 24 week check this am with GP, got to listen to babies heartbeat keeps me going for ages!! I love hearing it. Everything was normal.

Has everyone been measured? if so, are you the same cm as you are weeks from pelvis bone to belly button?

beansprout · 07/07/2004 17:23

Bibi - hope you are ok - have you called the m/w?

Toots - lol at your touretty "arse" shouting. Next time I venture south of the river I'll know how to recognise you!

Am about to adopt zero tolerance on insensitive comments. A "my god you suddenly look enormous" in the middle of an already bad moment, nearly reduced me to tears yesterday. Am fed up with it.
It's gay pride in London this weekend - anyone want to join me on a "Moose pride" march?!

OP posts:
sooz31 · 07/07/2004 17:25

hi turtle. it's lovely hearing that heartbeat isn't it! Glad all is well. I'm looking forward to my next appt which is on Tuesday (apart from the blood test - nasty business that).

at my last appt I was 2 cm/weeks bigger than dates... doesn't surprise me somehow, but does worry me a little bit as DS was 8lb+ .

eek!

florenceuk · 07/07/2004 17:28

Sooz, I've got a Mountain Buggy Urban (with the swivel wheel) which has been great - very robust, easy to push and comfy for DS - it goes completely flat so he will nap in it as well. When he was small and refused to nap I would take him out and he would always drop off. The downside is that it does not fold down very compactly so takes up a lot of room in the car. I have been suggesting to DH that we think about getting an E3 Explorer which does fold down quite a lot more compactly but I have seen from here that some Mumsnetters feel the latest version has a few bugs in it. DH is not very keen at all, but in the fight for space something is going to have to give - maybe we'll get a bigger car!
