Lol they havent looked for work to find no job. I can say it because I know exactly what they are like. This has been in the news for over a year. I told them repeatedly that it would come into effect soon. Did they start making a plan, saving money, looking for work? No, they didn't. They just bitch and moan about it when it comes

I haven't read the whole thread but BIL receives around £10k in tax credits. He earns £20k so after tax takes home £17k and around £3-4k in child benefits.

So he takes home £17k from his job and around £13k from benefits- almost the same amount of his job!

He also refuses to get a better paid job even after his employers have tried promoting him so as to not miss out on tax credits payments. Hmm

He has 4 kids.

Babyblues14 · 06/04/2017 22:25

They have four kids. And the cuts are benefits for only two children so I'm guessing it will be cut in half

BrieAndChilli · 06/04/2017 22:30

The system is broken. The pot is not limitless so something needs to change.
i do think that benefits should only be for a limited time (apart from disability) and should only be for the amount of children at the start of a claim, after all else don't all get thousands of pounds pay rises every time we have a baby. And yes accidents happen but they also happen to working people who just have to budget.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 06/04/2017 22:32

They won't be cut in half, the cuts don't effect those already receiving the payments.

Dixie, I didn't say poverty, I said we where poor and we where those who think that people who don't get tax credits must be loaded are so wrong. My parents where right on the cusp. If my dad had earned a tiny bit less they would have got tax credits. There was a family up the road who had more disposable income by a long shot. They got housing benefit, tax credits etc. They where by no means loaded but definitely had more 'spare' money than us. I'm not saying I'm against benefits at all BTW, I think they should be there for those who need them. I just think people are blind if they don't think some people purposely don't work as they'd get less money for than they do for doing nothing. And yeah, I think the minimum wage could be better but I still stand by that I agree with this particular cut. I think having help with two children (and more if you already have then) is fine. People now know that they won't get help with more so if they can't afford them without help they shouldn't have them.

The problem with the Daily Mail nicking threads and publishing them as 'news' is that all their lot start coming over here and joining up with their nasty opinions.

There's no point saying 'shouldn't have had kids then' or whatever. That horse has already bolted. What now for the OP's family? It's nice to see people offering budgeting advice Flowers

Babyblues14 · 06/04/2017 22:36

I stick by it. If you know you can't work, don't get pregnant. And if no one knows how it is going to work then how can I get my facts straight? Lol

LookAtTheFlowersKerry · 06/04/2017 22:39

If you can't work you can't get pregnant?

eugenics

Babyblues14 · 06/04/2017 22:40

I think I clearly said if you cant work DONT get pregnant

Sillysausage123 · 06/04/2017 22:41

It will affect children born now if there is a change of circumstances e.g working single parent gets made redundant.
One income family with SAHM now split and SAHM now has to claim

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/04/2017 22:42

It is women who suffer. One neighbour of mine had 23 children - she was married to an abusive demon!! What would that poor soul have done without state help? Her waste of space husband lay on the sofa all day!!

Women and children are going to suffer here and I am shocked to see fellow women support this!!!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 06/04/2017 22:46

I stand by everything I've said but I do hope the op is OK and I'm sorry if anything I've said has come across as harsh but I'm allowed an opinion and that is mine.

I'd never wish for any child to go without and if the op does need some help with budgeting that's something I'm very good at so if she comes back to ask for that sort of help I'm happy to help if I can

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 06/04/2017 22:46

Baby...pregnancy is often down to ABUSIVE MEN!! How dare you just say, 'Don't get pregnant..'?

You really are hateful!

Babyblues14 · 06/04/2017 22:49

How do you know what pregnancy is down to. I know if I knew I couldn't afford to have kids I wouldnt because I wouldn't wants them to suffer. Thats your opinion and I have mine. And I stand by everything I said too. Sorry if you dont like it.

Like I said sorry if you don't like it. Mumsnet is for peoples opinions.
That is what I'm giving.
And so are you.
But apparently I'm "hateful" and a "right charmer" for having my own opinion.

Itaintme · 06/04/2017 23:02

Some fucking awful posts on this thread.

clumsyduck · 06/04/2017 23:02

Yes agree it will be women who suffer !

In principle I agree , those who have 4,5,6 children with no intention of working knowing that the government will foot the bill I think maybe need to get in the real world like those who work , pay childcare and make the Decision to stop at 1 or 2 because they can't afford it

However what about women who in the future will find themselfs single with 3+ kids ? Because of a relationship breakdown they didn't plan for ? With kids they could previously afford and where " sensible " about having in a dual income family then find themselfs alone and skint ?????

Single parents can work. Are you saying if someone is single they have no choice but to not work?
And the same for people with a child with a disability. My cousin has severe autism. He still goes to school and gets taken out by carers. My auntie still works.
There is always childcare for single parents and help for children with disabilities.
But if you are already in a position where you can barely afford to live and look after yourself or the children you have already got I don't see why you would have more

clumsyduck · 06/04/2017 23:13

No I was a single parent for a long time and have always worked but sometimes for people their salary doesn't cover living costs plus childcare costs . Then what ?!

LookAtTheFlowersKerry · 06/04/2017 23:14

Oh bless.

I see we've entered La La land where quality, affordable childcare is available for all children, including specialised care for disabled kids and magical help that pops up when needed.
