OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
weepotion · 15/10/2007 15:57

trixy - we went to gymbabes bug to be hoonest - i dont hink it was worth the money. maybe when they are older they will get more out of it but at the mo - i think you would be better just rolling him around at home!

we all on the 25th morning?

midnightexpressmwahaha · 15/10/2007 17:48

Trixy, we let him cry a bit, I'm afraid. Feeling like the Dreaded Claire Verity all the while, but the first night I lay with him and the 2nd night I went in every 5 mins and rubbed his back. The first night he cried for about 2 hours and then I fed him and he slept 2 hours and carried on as usual, the 2nd night he cried for about 45 mins and then slept the rest of the night until I fed him at 4ish, waking a couple of times, but going back to sleep when I rubbed his back and shhhed. I hate the idea of controlled crying, but we have tried the no-cry-sleep-solution without success and his sleep just seemed to be getting worse and worse so we were getting a bit desperate.

Will let you know how we get on...

Tallulah - we started weaning at about 5 months with both boys, but like trixy says, I wouldn't bother if you can avoid it - it's such a faff (though I must say I've not done much sterilising with ds2 and have had no ill effects, so I wouldn't worry too much about that).

spookthief · 15/10/2007 17:50

Tallulah - possibly a growth spurt. Ds had these at 4 and 5 months. Can you bear to wait a week or so and see if it settles down?

It's a lot easier, however you wean, at 6 months or thereabouts because they've lost their tongue reflex and aren't pushing all the food back at you. Also, you can go straight on to finger foods or just mash stuff rather than faffing with purees.

I know the reappearence of night feeds is truly crap though. Ds had a tummy ache last night and was up all night. Daddy just would not do as bf was the only thing that would comfort him, ergo soooo tired today.

Fingers crossed it's just a blip and things will settle down again if you decide to wait a bit.

TALLULAHSPELL · 15/10/2007 21:13

Thanks for advice guys. Would rather wait - want to do BLW as am v lazy & don't want to puree everything. Will see how she goes the rest of week. Won't start anything before going to Oz, don't want to be trying to feed her babyrice & pureed carrot on the plane.

WO -lol @ "roll him around at home"!!! So true but still we fall for it.

weepotion · 15/10/2007 22:54

hey t! c is 6 months on sunday and we have held out. i do think she is really ready for food but havent gone down the pureeing route. i know a couple of mums who seem to spend their lives either steaming, pureeing or freezing. i am lazy - woudl rather spend my time carrying on with her. i have let her hold/ mush/ smear some bits of food - her dads lentil cakes were the hit so far. if you can hold off - as yu say - it might be easier on the journey to keep bf.

the baby gym thing - we spent time rolling them on an exercise ball so if any of yu had one from pg days - get it out and put £5 into your savings that you would have spent at a class.

i do set up a kind of obstacle course for her on the floor - bolster cushions, bena bags etc and roll her around it a bit. needless to say she looks at me with a expression. we generally give up and just have a natter.

Loulee · 16/10/2007 00:19

Yeah, agree with the others - leave the weaning as long as possible - and very wise not to do it when you've got long flights and arent at home.
Sorry to hear sleeping is bad for you midnight + trixy ds is doing great. he's nearly 3 months now and has suddenly cracked the sleeping - down at 7.30, one feed at 11.30, then up at 7.30 - haven't really done anything different than what we did with dd1 and dd2 who never slept through until they were well over a year - who know what goes on...
The only down side is that the 1st 2 ights his sleeping was good, dd1 was up with a tummy bug all night - no rest for me!

should be able to make 25th

clu · 16/10/2007 20:50

Ive read a lot about baby led weaning, which seems quite interesting. I guess it is really trusting your instincts.
Im going for a scan tomorrow at the QM to see if my placenta has moved, just need it to move 2.7cm so small yet so far!

spookthief · 16/10/2007 21:55

Fingers crossed... let us know how you get on.

clu · 17/10/2007 15:12

Well went for my scan and the placenta has moved another 1cm. But the baby has not grown in the last two weeks, they say it could be their wrong measurements, but I am to go to the day care unit on Monday to be monitored. Feel very confused and would really just prefer a decision, was anyone else monitored at a day caare unit and know what happens?

trixyortreatmalixy · 17/10/2007 17:05

Clu, I was in a daycare unit very briefly having my blood pressure monitored, but have no idea what they would do in your case.

When do you have to make a decision about whther you would like an elective section, or is it their decision?

Midnight, how is the sleeping going?

Loulee · 17/10/2007 17:07

with dd1 I had a similar thing happen. They said she hadn't grown - but it was to do with different people measuring in different ways (she was actually growing fine). I had to go into daycare for extra scans, but didn''t have any monitoring. Don't worry I'm sure it's all fine, but good to know you're in good hands. I found all the staff at qmh great and very supportive over the years. HTH
when's your due date btw? before you know it, you'll be holding little one in your arms

Loulee · 17/10/2007 17:11

Oh, I can also recommend ( ) an elective section. I have had 3 sections now - the last one was elective and it was a breeze - absolutely fine - I've come to terms with never having a "natural" ( if there is such a thing) birth and think that so long as you end up with a healthy baby, that's all that matters. I know it can seem quite scary, - and I know that the decision making is a nightmare - all those debates with consultants! I'm sure you'll make the right decision

TALLULAHSPELL · 17/10/2007 18:02

Can't offer any advice Clu but am sure will all be fine. They do err on the side of caution with the monitoring. Sure nothing to worry about.

lunachick9 · 17/10/2007 19:09

Hi - I haven't posted on here since August when I had quite a while to go. I'm now 37+1 with twins and am due to be induced a week tomorrow. Really fed up sitting about as I can't drive anymore (too close to the wheel) and my feet and legs swell horrendously when I'm on my feet too long!

clu - I live in Anniesland and am registered at the QM. I have had all my check ups at day care because of the risks with twins and it is fine (In fact I'm off there first thing tomorrow morning). All of the staff are lovely and will take good care of you. Although it is a different situation I imagine they will just do the usual checks - BP, urine etc and then pop you into a bed and onto a monitor to check baby's heartbeat. They may also send you for an extra scan. I'm just going by all the things I have seen others getting done on my numerous visits (every 2-4 weeks)

I hope all goes well for you and I hope to try and post a little more as well as maybe getting along to one of the meets once my babies are here.

midnightexpressmwahaha · 17/10/2007 20:08

Hi all - it's good to see some new 'faces' and hear about new babies on the way. Don't worry Clu, I'm sure it'll be fine, though I don't hae any useful experience to pass on. Mine were both crash sections, and while that in itself wasn't the best experience, the actual operations and recovery were absolutely fine.

Trixy - sleeping not going too badly thanks - he's going through till about 2am before he wakes now, which is such an improvement, and he's fine to get back to sleep after that until he gets a feed at 4.30ish and then sleeps again until about 7. Yeay. Only downside is that he is a bit trickier to get to sleep in the daytime again now, but if it means more sleep at night I can cope with that if he can! So, fingers crossed it'll get better now, and we can even think about going out some time soon.

Tallulah - has the night feeding clamed down at all?

Lunachick - a week to go - how exciting! Hope you're getting some rest in the meantime. We'll have a (coffee) toast to you at our meet-up next week!

clu · 17/10/2007 20:24

Ahh thanks everyone for your supportive replies.

Trixy - they have not offered me the choice, at the moment it seems like theres, if they offered me one right now I would choose a section as I would prefer not to have an emergency section.

Lou - my due date is Nov 8th so I am 37 weeks tomorrow. I also have foudn the staff to be lovely esp the sonographer, just the consultant dithering is doing my head in!

Talullah - thanks for the support

Luna - thanks for the info, nice to know what to expect! good luck with your induction shame you were not there today could have shared the parking! lol you must be desperate to meet your babies now, (you maybe have read this but im in anniesland too )

Midnight- thanks I had geared myself up for a section as I did have complete previa, and a emergency is what i want to avoid.

Now must learn to go with the flow!

TALLULAHSPELL · 17/10/2007 21:38

Hey Midnight - DD woke again @ 3:30 last night. To be fair she fed & went back down till 8:30 so can't really complain. But I will - . Just am used to her sleeping thru & not keen to go backwards. No daytime sleeps yet either. Holding off on the weaning as long as poss.

Sounds like you're getting there with J. Good stuff.

midnightexpressmwahaha · 18/10/2007 08:52

Hope she settles soon Tallulah. Now he's a bit older, DS1 tends to go through phases of waking early and later, so we've learned not to get too used to late sleep-ins if they happen for a while. Though having said that I think he's maybe slept till 8.30 twice in 2 years! An early bird. Can't think where he got that gene from.

Another good night with ds2 though, so things looking up on that score. About flippin time too.

lunachick9 · 18/10/2007 16:36

Just though I'd post a little update on me since last night. I went for my antenatal appt today and had a very nice, long discussion with my consultant about my anxieties over a natural delivery with the second baby being in a breech position. It was agreed that for my own sanity I should have a caesarean so my induction has been cancelled and a caesarean booked in it's place. Got to go back to the hospital tomorrow for pre-op assesment and then I can hopefully relax and enjoy my last few days alone with my H.

Only worrying thing is the consultant said that the odds were he would be seeing me before then! Oh well - let the countdown begin!

trixyortreatmalixy · 18/10/2007 16:42

Your consultant sounds lovely Luna! That's great that you can now relax for a bit. Make sure you get lots of rest as I can imagine you won't get much once your twins arrive!!

Dalrymps · 18/10/2007 18:36

Hey everyone, hows it going? i'm 2 days overdue and starting to get a little impatient/frustrated, really want to aviod being induced at 10 days over... keep getting period type pains on and off but never develops in to anything , just trying to keep myself occupied by buying too many things on ebay.
Also had hot curry, fresh pineapple, raspberry leaf tea... just got to try nipple stimulation and sex now, these are all the suggestions from my last appointment with the midwife!
Ah well hope you're all doing ok and will let you know if anything happens soon

TALLULAHSPELL · 18/10/2007 19:18

Good luck D - I think the curry worked a little for me - that and the threat of induction (DD arrived a few hrs before my induction was due).Wouldn't bother with the sex tho - didn't help at all, sure a myth invented by frustrated DP's!!!

Dalrymps · 18/10/2007 19:56

Yeah i'll try to stay positive, not sure i can physically manage the sex anyway so i'll have to see about that one

liath · 19/10/2007 06:51

Poor you, Dalrymps - I hated being overdue. Hope it all kicks off soon .

I've been getting pretty fed up of ds's night time wakenings. He's gone through to 5am or 6am before so I know he can but lately he's been up every 2-3 hours. Last night he wke and fed at midnight so when he woke again at 2am I checked he was ok and shut the door on him . He grumbled off and on but there was no prolonged crying. Really hope it works.... Like Midnight I feel a bit Claie Verity-esque leaving him but I have been really shattered lately.

How are everyone else's nights?

Weepotion are you starting solids soon? It's going quite well here, sweet potato cakes the biggest hit so far.

weepotion · 21/10/2007 22:11
