Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
xxsummerxx · 14/03/2007 14:05

Hi,

Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Elaine, I stay in Motherwell and have just found out I'm expecting my 3rd baby, early days yet as not due until november. Have 2 Ds one is almost 15 and the other is 2 and a half.

Hope you dont mind me intruding on your conversation....

Loulee · 14/03/2007 14:19

not at all xxsummerxx! hello I'm expecting my 3rd too (july) but will have the unenviable 3 under the age of 4!!

Vio · 14/03/2007 14:31

hi-summer! how are you?

thanks Loulee-well, i dont know if i am worried too much..or my DH really ?? he's very concerned.i emailed nuffield and they replied---'An initial consultation with a gynaecologist is £100 to £150. The Group B Strep test is £47. The consultant will also charge a fee for taking the swab.'
!!!!!!!!!!! crazy huh?

Anyway, i am not sure yet ( personally, i am convinced that everything will be fine)...i mean, again, you can never have enough test or scans right?

oh well, less than 6 wks now...i am telling myself to really enjoy the rest of the pregnancy as my life will change completely after he arrives....honestly, a bit daunting stimes.

So how do you all feel? how much does the baby change you really?

Loulee · 14/03/2007 15:10

don't think a baby "really" changes you at all - just gives you less time - and makes you wonder what you used to do with all that spare time you had!!!

  • and what a luxury it was to have a solid 8 hours sleep on a regular basis!
xxsummerxx · 14/03/2007 15:41

Hi Loulee & Vio,

Loulee, cant believe you are going to have 3 under 4, you must be so brave....My big boy is 15 and the wee one is 2 and a half, this wee one has been a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one!!

Vio, I'm good thanks, just pretty tired and starting to go to the loo more than I had ever believed possible, I had forgotten about this bit!!

Loulee · 14/03/2007 16:19

Don't think I'm brave - just getting older and think if i don't do it now, I'll never do it! my eldest will just turn 4 a few weeks after dc3 is born - maybe that means 3 under 5 - which doesn't sound so bad

TALLULAHBELLE · 14/03/2007 18:46

Hi Loulee - still to see my new m/w appt on Fri so see how that goes. Started the parenthood classes tho' - are they designed to make you feel ancient if you are over 25, never mind over 35 like me? Seriously, don't want to say too much just in case anyone recognises me but there were not many of us out of our teenage years. Doesn't bode well for building a network of support from other mums really. Anyone else find this or is it just my , ahem, tries not to sound like a dreadful snob, geographical area?

midnightexpress · 14/03/2007 19:15

well, I'm certainly not in the first flush of youth tallulah, so it's not just you. But there seem to be quite a few old crocks like me down this way. I'm lucky that a loy of my pals all dropped in the last year or two so have a few comrades.

xxsummerxx - hi and congratulations! Hope the pgs going well and not too much morning sickness?

vio - I agree with Loulee about the baby not changing you exactly (apart from the bags under the eyes and the rather saggy belly, that is...). Ooooooh now, a solid stretch of sleep. I remember that.

xxsummerxx · 15/03/2007 10:32

Hi Midnightexpress,

The pg is going well so far, I am 4wks and 3days pg so not much to rave about at the minute apart from the extremley sore bosoms. My God!! I had forgotten just how sore they can get!!

Luckily no morning sickness yet, but I didnt have any with my boys so hopefully I wont have any this time either.

trixymalixy · 15/03/2007 12:55

Hi summer,congrats on you pregnancy!

Thanks for the advice Loulee and midnight. Have tried again a couple of times but we both seem to fall asleep and then he wakes up 15 mins or so later looking for more food, so feel like my sleep is a bit more broken!! I prefer to make sure he's had a good feed and then put him back down in his own bed.

He has just woken once in the night the past couple of nights, which is great, so fingers crossed it'll continue.

My DS is 7 weeks, how old is your LO midnight?

Respect to all of you with more than one LO!! You must be knackered!!

Vio, make the most of your baby free time!! I wouldn't say having a baby has changed me as a person. It is a big lifestyle change tho. You can't just nip out to the cinema etc anymore.

Vio · 15/03/2007 13:07

lucky you summer, didnt have any morning sickness in the past and dont have any so far... i can still remember how terrible it was for me...couldnt sleep couldnt eat..kept vomitting ..!! glad its all over.

I can't imagine myself taking care of 3 wee ones so i have alot of respect for women like you Loulee & midnight..how do you manage your time? I am getting a bit nerovus now..i hope i will be a good mum but i dont want to be over protective..just want my child to be a happy child really..want him to have a pleasant childhood.

Anyway... sorry if i keep asking the same questions, in fact, i will ask my midwife when i see her next...just want to ask you Loulee, you know you said you didnt know you were a carrier of GBS. not until your baby was born...did the hospital check if the baby carriers GBS soon after the babys born?? do you know if they do it routinely? if they do, then i dont think i should be worried too much . Thanks alot!

midnightexpress · 15/03/2007 19:39

Hi Trixy - my lo will be 8 weeks on Saturday, so just the same age as yours . V envious of your one wake-up a night though - hope it continues for you! Mine is still feeding every couple of hours and after about 3am he mostly moans and groans until about 6 - I think it's probably reflux, so not much I can do about it I don't think, poor sausage. BTW, I took same sort of route as you with DS1, sleep-wise, and he was sleeping through in his own room by 6 months. Don't think we're going to be as lucky with this one, but you never know.

Summer - glad you're not suffering, (boobs apart). I was lucky with MS too - a couple of mornings when I had to sit down for a minute with ds2 and that's about it. I've spoken to people who had their head down the loo for the whole 9 months, so feel v lucky to have got away so easily.

Vio - those last few weeks of 1st pg are quite strange, aren't they? Sort of knowing everything's about to change, but not quite knowing how. I remember feeling quite sad some of the time about it, but all soooo worth all the hard work of course . Enjoy the last few weeks anyway - hope you're putting your feet up. Big bar of chocolate and a copy of OK magazine is what I recommend.

Loulee · 15/03/2007 21:36

Vio - they did test just when dd1 was born - have a feeling that it isn't hospital policy BUT really can't remember. Also things may be different at different hospitals - and we are talking nearly 4 years ago. Sorry to not be much help - your midwife would be your best bet - or one of the mw on here perhaps?
Would be interested to know what they say anyway, so let us know how you get on.

Vio · 20/03/2007 08:29

hows everyone! been really quiet here.

Loulee, will see my midwife next mon so i will ask her.

went to asia style again on Sat, had a great meal.

my mum will arrive in less than 2 weeks!! can't wait.

hope you all are doing well.

xxsummerxx · 20/03/2007 09:00

Hi Everyone,

Hope we are all kepping well!!

I had my first docs appt yesterday. What a waste of time, they didnt take a blood or urine sample, didnt check my blood pressure but did give me folic acid. Have another appt next mon with the doc and midwife, so I'm guessing that will be me booked in after that. Was so different with my last DS but I was with a different practice then.

Vio · 20/03/2007 10:00

hi Summer....i remember when i had an appointment with my GP, she only gave me folic acid..thats all..then nothing after that till i was about 13wks, got my first booking appointment with PRM and a scan.

Hope you are keeping well..

xxsummerxx · 20/03/2007 14:30

Yeah keeping well so far Vio, had a bit of dizziness earlier and a sore head, but nothing major. Am actually begining to wonder if I am further on than I first thought because I keep feeling flutterings, didnt think I would be able to feel this by only 5 wks.......

Loulee · 21/03/2007 19:44

Consider yourselves lucky - I didn't even get the folic acid!!

trixymalixy · 21/03/2007 22:19

Hi, how's everyone. It's been a bit quiet on here recently. What's happened to Anjo, WO and GMM? If you're out there Anjo, hope your getting on Ok!

Have had a mega busy day today.

DH finally finished the spare room which was part of the work we started before Xmas intending to get it finished before Ds was born.

I was getting worried about the amount of dust from the sanding so today I have hoovered and dusted the whole house from top to bottom. I'm bloody knackered!!!

DS is getting so big. he's started smiling now and keeps stopping mid feed to give me a big grin. It's so cute!!

Vio · 22/03/2007 08:26

that's lovely trixy! i am really looking forward to that... i was thinking how lovely it must be when he smiles.

trixymalixy · 22/03/2007 21:27

It is so cute!!

How are you doing Vio,are you climbing the walls out of boredom?

Anjo1 · 22/03/2007 22:29

Hello all , It has indeed gone all quiet ,
first chance i've had to post for a while , well- things aren't too bad , honestly without meaning to scare anyone - I now understand why sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture , so Vio and others waiting for their babies , sleep now my darlings because you will miss it , oh , how I miss sleep !!
DS is doing fine , we have however both got Thrush ( ouch ) did any of you ladies get that , Trixy ? Loulee? Both got meds from GP , Canestan cream for me , which I have to wash off before I feed him , Nigtmare as he clusterfeeds most of the time.
and I am starting to despair because he also makes this noise when he sleeps like he's grunting / straining to poo and he'll have his eyes closed and be sleeping while he does this , means I ca'nt sleep .GP and HV seem clueless as to causes / how to stop it .
I found another post on MN with someone describing more or less the same thing and suggesting ear plugs ( anyone got any experience of this ?
sorry for the long post everyone , I hope you're all doing well
xx

trixymalixy · 22/03/2007 22:42

What wouldn't I give for a good night's sleep!! It is torture Anjo!

I haven't had thrush yet, touch wood, hope you get better soon.

My DS is quite a noisy sleeper as well and he thrashes about so the waterproof moses basket matress cover mkes a crinkling noise. I don't think he'll make it through to the 6 months staying in our room although he'll have grown out of the moses basket pretty soon. He doesn't make a grunting noise though, sorry.

midnightexpress · 23/03/2007 09:17

hi Anjo

It was me that posted about earplugs. DS2 is a real grunty strainer too, a bit colicky, poor wee man. If he's sleeping near you (ds2 is in a carrycot next to the bed at the moment), you'll be fine with earplugs - they don't really block out the noise so you still hear them wake up, even before they cry, but it just helps me get back to sleep after feeds. I'm hoping it's going to pass fairly soon as his digestive system matures. please....

we moved ds1 into his room at 3.5 months - he's quite a light sleeper, so i just found i was going to bed and lying rigid and awake worrying about waking him! But his room is just across the hall, and we used a monitor and had our door open! Not sure we'll be able to do the same with ds2 though - he's going to be sharing with his big bro, so i guess we'll have to wait until he's sleeping through.
Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh now that would be good.

weeonion · 23/03/2007 10:40

good morning folks - gld to see you are all well. havent been on in a while - mat leave has started and i have been nesting in earnest. maing curtians, cot bumpers, cusions, tied dyed nappy wraps etc et c- its liek a cottage indusrty in the flat! so much for the build up of rest but i am loving it.
