When you thought it was a boy and turns out to be a girl!

So that's just it really.

Found out today I'm having a girl. We already have 2 girls. We really thought this one was a boy, since the kicks and movements have been really strong right from the get go. And in the first scan the skull and face looked more male than female. But no - another girl! I've gotten my head around it more now and DH says to just be happy the baby is perfectly healthy and I am grateful for that, of course I am. But....a girl?!!!

Thank god we found out before the baby was born as I think that 'surprise' may have been a lot harder to take at that stage!

We hadn't even thought about girls' names....!

If I was going to have three of the same sex I would rather it was girls than boys. I think it would be lovely. My friend Emma has 3 sister and a little brother and they all get on say well.

2 scans told me a girl. . Hard back to back labour and a baby complete with penis poppped out. .
Added another brother to the 5 dd already had. She was devastated. . He was a lovely placid baby who slept through from a few weeks. . Compensation for the shock I always said!!

Thanks ladies. Well I do know what to expect that's for sure. With my first 2 I've been desperate for girls but this time my dh has been feeling outnumbered and I did want a boy. Saying that we dtd a lot over ovulation time and all other times so it's not like I followed the advice on you'll get annoy on your most fertile days!

At least I can refer to them as "the girls" :)

Have been anxiously counting down to my gender scan on tuesday... along with DD, DH, inlaws, parents and my whole team at work lol. Now its nearly this close I wish it wouldn't arrive! At the beginning I felt convinced (and happy!) that it was another girl, but as the weeks have gone on I'm getting much more feeling that it is infact a boy.
When pregnant with DD I was convinced/wishing she was a boy. And had about two minutes disappointment when I found out. Then couldn't imagine her not being a girl, I LOVE her being a girl and wouldn't swop that for the world.
But I'm not prepared for that half minute of disappointment when I find out in a few days... I still beat myself up for feeling like that briefly with DD and it was nearly 3years ago and I never told a soul!
Feel like I'm going to be disappointed momentarily for whatever gender they say it isn't, then have to feel like crap all over again for having that feeling! ARgh! :(

Well as the mother of 3 boys some of those comments really hurt.

Don't put others down just to big yourself to.

And OP how can a skull or kick strength possibly give you any idea what sex a baby is????

Because girls are weak and boys are strong, obviously. I should probably warn my DH that our boy will be born a girl, as he's fairly lazy in there...

OP congratulations on your baby and I trust everything went well with the 20 week scan , as I know they do in depth checks on baby's heart and lungs etc.
The real purpose of that scan is to check for any possible health complications and not the sex/gender or whatever .

raining I don't really see any hurtful comments on my thread to be honest.

And yes I know it's bollocks everyone to base something of kick strength but it was all I had to go on! And even the radiographher said you can tell a lot from the skull shape especially around the forehead and chin so i was half way there with that.

toomuch good luck with your scan :) I know what you mean. I was desperate to find out and then all of sudden thought no I don't want to know yet lol.

I'm pregnant with my 3rd now , 20 week scan next week. We already have 2 girls and OH and I really want this one to be a boy but I've sort of convinced myself it's a girl so it's less of a blow. I know that sounds really horrible because we will love the baby unconditionally no matter what it is but I can't help wanting a son.

I have 3 girls and I love it. If I were to have a fourth I'd be secretly wishing for another girl! I don't know why, I definitely wouldn't be disappointed with a boy though.

I'm quite sure that poster meant nothing negative about her 'mother of sons type' comment. Maybe she has been surrounded by girls in her life so far and can't imagine being good at looking after boys when anyone who has had a boy knows it's ultimately no different and you learn as you go based on a child's personality not their gender.

But people love a good dose of 'offended'.

I've got 3 girls then a boy, I didn't find out with any of them at scan - I think if I did being honest I would have been disappointed at then3rd scan but at the birth wasn't at all disappointed was thrilled with my 3rd little girl, its really nice having 3 girls and will be lovely for them when their older (I would have loved a sister) and my ds is a little whirlwind i can't keep up with him I don't know if it's a boy thing or I'm old but I'm glad I've got 3 girls and 1 boy not the other way round! He loves his big sisters if you ask him are you a baby or big boy now he will say "I'm a big girl!!"

I'm a mother of boys. I took zero offence. There could possibly be non-negative traits she feels she doesn't have that would be good to have as a mother of boys in her mind.

I'm 1 of 3 girls and can say it's so lovely having them. Growing up it was awful- we argued so much but now they're definitely my best friends. I know my parents were disappointed that there wasn't a boy.
