When you thought it was a boy and turns out to be a girl!

So that's just it really.

Found out today I'm having a girl. We already have 2 girls. We really thought this one was a boy, since the kicks and movements have been really strong right from the get go. And in the first scan the skull and face looked more male than female. But no - another girl! I've gotten my head around it more now and DH says to just be happy the baby is perfectly healthy and I am grateful for that, of course I am. But....a girl?!!!

Thank god we found out before the baby was born as I think that 'surprise' may have been a lot harder to take at that stage!

We hadn't even thought about girls' names....!

I've never had a sprinkler in the face. But get the elbow grease in!

Graceymac · 09/02/2017 08:35

I am a mother of 3 girls and I couldn't imagine things any other way. That is not to say I wouldn't be equally happy if one was a boy, of course I would. It's glitter and other sparkly things all the way in my house! It's handy that toys and. Mothers can be passed down too.
I love my dds having other sisters, especially for when they are older and I am fully expecting to be taken on lots of shopping trips and for coffee in a few years. I don't think boys are so interested in those things from what I hearGrin.

Graceymac · 09/02/2017 08:36

Toys and clothes, not mothers! Although I guess you could say I am being passed down too, a little more worn out each time!

NameChange30 · 09/02/2017 08:43

Oh lord

NameChange30 · 09/02/2017 08:43

Glitter and sparkles and shopping and gendered clothes and toys

DianaMemorialJam · 09/02/2017 08:46

I have 2 boys

1y/o and 6 weeks

I am also someone who had a sister, all girl cousins and extended family members etc.

I can assure you, parenting a baby that just happens to have a penis doesn't need to be learnt anymore than it does with a female baby.

My niece was born three weeks ago, and shock horror I managed to bottle feed her, change her nappy and cuddle her just has I have done/do with my sons.

Crazy eh?!

🙄

Bluebellevergreen · 09/02/2017 08:48

Oh lord
So you cant pass toys and clothes from girl to boy!?
Dare to think what toys they have
Cant boys use glitter? Shock

Bluebellevergreen · 09/02/2017 08:49

Glitter and sparkles and shopping and gendered clothes and toys
Pass the bucket, some vomit coming right up too

DianaMemorialJam · 09/02/2017 08:49

oh and I have a sister and we hate eachother. They're not forced to get on just because they are the same sex. Fgs.

Bluebellevergreen · 09/02/2017 08:50

Simples

When you thought it was a boy and turns out to be a girl!
DianaMemorialJam · 09/02/2017 08:50

Blue are you suggesting that girls could wear Blue/green/yellow baby grows?!

Perish the thought Shock

NameChange30 · 09/02/2017 08:52

Bluebell I've seen that diagram before, love it!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/02/2017 08:52

I think your thread is important, not cruel. There will be many other new Mum's who feel like you. All babies are a blessing, regardless of their gender.

Graceymac · 09/02/2017 09:02

Well Namechange and Bluebell aren't you lovely individuals. Clearly both with astronomical IQs as I can see from your smart comments, must be tough for you both, really Hmm?

Re the clothes, of course parents with other kids of the same gender hand clothes down, this is hardly a ground breaking announcement.

Bluebellevergreen · 09/02/2017 09:02

Diana I went to buy yarn for my friend's baby (to make some clothing). He happens to have a penis.
Me: can I see some baby yarn please?
Owner: Boy or girl?
Me: oh, I am a girl why?
Owner: haGrin I meant the baby
Me: Hmm a baby. I want yarn
Owner: yes but blue or pink
Me: oh this is an entirely different question. I wanted another colour is that all you have?
Owner: well if you are not sure if boy or girl I have yellow
Confused

namechange the diagram is very handy. I will be using it lots for my DS Christmas and Bdays for relatives

ElleDubloo · 09/02/2017 09:04

OP - I thought I was having a boy too, only to find on the scan that it'll be a girl. Not based on the strength of kicks, but because I had really bad morning sickness this time, and hardly had it at all with my first (a girl). Each pregnancy is different, I guess. I hope you're not too disappointed, as I think it would be simply lovely to have 3 girls. Congratulations!

California - I took your comment about "mother of sons" to be complimentary. Along the lines of "mother of dragons" Grin

DianaMemorialJam · 09/02/2017 09:05

Bloody hell.

I'm making a blanket for my niece and using that dk multicoloured yarn... It's lovely

Bluebellevergreen · 09/02/2017 09:06

Gracey a bit confused here. Why are we not lovely? Hmm because we said that poo sticks to balls?

And why do you make personal comments about my IQ? I dont know you Hmm

It is also well known that people pass on clothes to children of different gender.

Maybe check my diagram again Grin

Bluebellevergreen · 09/02/2017 09:07

Multicoloured should be fine as long as it is on the purple / pink colour scheme GrinGrin

Choccyhobnob · 09/02/2017 09:11

Eesht californiasoul you have had some stick. I sort of get what you mean though. I came from a family of all sisters, female cousins and playing cars and robots and playfighting with my nephew bored me to tears. I also couldn't bear the thought of standing in the freezing cold pissing rain watching boys play football.

Then I had a boy and omg I couldn't love him any more than I do! I actually hope I have another one next time. DH laughs at me when I'm 'vrooming' cars around and roaring with toy dinosaurs, he says "I thought you didn't know how to play with boys?" lol

I now think I'm not girly enough for a girl as I don't really have any dress sense and can't do hair very well and the girls clothes section is overwhelming with too many options!

NameChange30 · 09/02/2017 09:12

I took the IQ comment as a compliment Wink
Apparently it's not "lovely" to get the urge to vomit when you read so many gender stereotypes in one post.
Oh well Grin

NameChange30 · 09/02/2017 09:14

My last post was in reply to Bluebell

MrsPringles · 09/02/2017 09:14

My 2yr old boy has a doll and it's got a bed and buggy and everything. And it's a pink flowery buggy. He also has an Elsa doll which I'm also told is for girls but to him, it's a toy and he wants to play with it. He's 2, he doesn't know any different.

We did some painting yesterday and he chose pink sparkly paint. Shooooooock horror!

Don't tell the 'boys must only play with footballs police' Grin

I really don't understand why some people think they aren't cut out to parent a certain gender, it's such a strange thing to say.

Op, congrats on the baby. I'm one of 3 girls, my sisters are awesome and we're like a little gang. I loved growing up with them Smile

purplecollar · 09/02/2017 09:26

I thought my first was a boy and had images of a mini dh in my head. So was surprised to find at the 20 week scan she was a girl. I sort of had to adjust the pictures in my head. And she does look like a mini dh as it happens. She has many of his traits and a similar personality. On the whole, it really didn't matter what gender she was. She's a fab little person.

I think sometimes we imagine our future and if it suddenly changes, it can be a little unsettling. But you just adjust. Sometimes it just takes a bit of time to alter the pictures in your head.

OneLumpOrSeven · 09/02/2017 09:44

I have two boys and in our house we have glitter glue, paint (some of it is pink shush!), a baby doll and even a toy kitchen! I mean at this rate they're just going to catch the gay, right? Hmm

Gracey, you may find it a surprise when one of your DD's may turn out not to like shopping and shock horror may even like football. I'll pray for you. pats hand
