I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks everyone for the good advice about the GTT, and especially to MamaErmintrude for the hope passed back from 35 weeks...

I've also had problems with diarrhoea. At some points in first trimester, diarrhoea was actually worse than vomiting -- felt embarrassed to explain to people, but was staying home from work partly because I needed to go to loo at both ends! And needing to have a BM seems to bring on nausea. Ugh.

The drink I was given at the GTT did indeed turn out to be a bit like reduced Lucozade. (It's called Polycal in case you want to check it out, CastleFeck.) I am amazed by how many women don't suffer NVP in pregnancy! I watched a smartly attired woman with a briefcase knock hers back in one, and the phlebotomists seemed surprised by my apprehension. Unfortunately the texture is quite gelatinous and I found it very hard to get down, especially given the time limit of three minutes. (Quite a nightmare to have someone urging you on to finish it!) I did manage it just in time, with a bit of gagging and one spit up back into the cup, and kept it down. But have been feeling pretty rough since the test ended -- very nauseous. Had to stand up by sink to drink it.

Out of interest, did anyone who's already had a baby, and breastfed, find that weaning caused them to struggle with nausea? Before my first pregnancy I was literally never sick -- not travel-sick, not sick with hangovers, hardly ever got vomiting bugs! But I had two weeks of nausea when I cut down feeds at 6 months, and a very bad time with it when I stopped feeding altogether (unfortunately only a month before I got pregnant again, which may have been why this pregnancy has been much worse...). Sometimes wonder if I should have carried on feeding my son during this pregnancy to reduce the sickness!

Lamaitresse · 30/01/2017 17:13

Thanks so much for all the advice, that link is brilliant LT. Can't remember who linked to the pills website but thanks so much for that too. Just sat in GP's waiting room, got such a long complicated history I can't figure out how on earth to start! Feel a bit nervous in case she's not sympathetic 🙈
Hopsalong poor you with the nausea whilst reducing bf'ing - I never had that with either dc. I do think it's good that you stopped completely before getting pregnant though - with my pregnancy in 2015 I was still breastfeeding dd and I think that's what caused me to be admitted to hospital so fast - I became dehydrated much faster and the last time I fed her was the morning I was taken into hospital (I cried throughout as I felt so awful) 😢 Think it was a wise decision to stop so that any liquid you manage to keep down can go to you...

Lamaitresse · 30/01/2017 17:38

Just a quick one as I've just come out of the doctors - she was fab, said she wasn't actually able to prescribe ondansetron as it can only be done by a hospital so she's calling them tomorrow to try to organise it. Am seeing her in the morning for acupuncture, and she told me not to worry because even if she has to get it from France or the uk she will sort it out. Am so relieved I burst into tears & am now sat in the car crying & shaking! Cannot believe how much life can change in the course of two days...

Meowstro · 30/01/2017 18:03

Hi all, new to this thread. Been suffering with HG from week 6 and now 12 weeks, just when I think I'm going to be able to return to work after a few better days, I'm struck with vomiting since the moment I woke up and cyclizine and metropramide failing me today. You're all such troopers! I feel I'm letting the side down as I'm really emotional today, GP was being really positive about the fact it can stop soon but has started to prepare me for the fact this can go on all the way through which I was already aware of but now I'm feeling like it's a real possibility. To top it off, my neighbour called her agent (who I know) worried that I need help because her and her partner can hear me being sick all day. She's really lovely but now I feel like I'm burdening them as well as my DH. Sorry for the rant, the emotional side is on top of me today.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 30/01/2017 18:32

Chintaria great to hear that the GP is supportive. Must be a massive relief. Xx

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 30/01/2017 18:34

Blondes it seems I'm following your pattern then. Hopefully this blip is short lived? (Even if you have to lie to me say it is! Lol)

Melleebacca · 30/01/2017 18:42

Hops - I had 24hrs of vomiting when DD weaned herself at 12 months. Followed by 3 days of nausea. She went from 3 feeds to none instantly. She's a very determined little girl. Has just dropped her second nap overnight.

Chintaria - great news! Just remember it doesn't help the nausea, and I can throw up with it, but it's very difficult.

Meow - I stopped vomiting at 26w, but I took ondansetron through to 34w to keep on top of it. I was terrified of 3rd trimester re emergence. Nausea was mild but stayed till the end. You might need to slow yourself down and rest up. It's the only thing that helps.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/01/2017 21:00

Yes was short lived. About a week tho mine was over xmas and ny

Glad doctor listened to you and will be prescribing the magical o drug

LightTripper · 31/01/2017 00:04

Great news Chintaria!

Mellee I think it was somebody here who recommended toddler toothpaste if tooth brushing is setting you off. It's much less strong tasting than adult versions and I found it much easier to tolerate, but still gives you a bit of freshness.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 31/01/2017 00:08

I used strawberry toothpaste in my last pregnancy but the thought makes me feel sick now Envy I'm sorry to say I just do it bare minimum when absolutely necessary and accept I will vom immediately.

I'm seeing the dentist on Friday, poor her Confused

MagnumAddict · 31/01/2017 08:13

Hi all, had a low few days. Cyclizine not working at all it seems so calling the dr this morning.

Wish I had something more positive to say!

MagnumAddict · 31/01/2017 08:13

I can second the toddler toothpaste though

peaceloveandbiscuits · 31/01/2017 09:03

I'm back to being sick every day again at 22 weeks. It had settled down to every once in a while, sometimes every day for a short run. I'm never getting pregnant again Sad

LucindaE · 31/01/2017 11:35

Mewostro Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. I do hope it eases soon; as your dr will probably have said, any time between 14-20 weeks is normal for a dramatic improvement. Almost nobody suffers as much as in the first tri, even those unlucky people who suffer throughout. Do you find sips of flat coke, ice lollies, the juice and fruit of tinned fruit (which is actually full of vitamins, I believe) elderflower water, sips of chocolate milkshake, nibbles of crisps or the recent find by Blondes cuppa soup any good? Some swear by cheap ice cream.
hopsalong I sympathize - I remember a few 'coming out of all orifices' experiences. Hideous. Also, of course, loose bowels adds massively to dehydration. On breast feeding - oddly enough, for those very unlucky tiny minority who suffered continuing sickness after the birth - giving up breast feeding helped. I had it violently for two weeks after the birth, then mild nausea with that 'letdown' sensation. It's interesting that you and Melleebacca had it the other way round!
Chintaria Is Acupunture available as conventional medicine where you are? That's wonderful. It worked wonders for me, but it does seem to vary between individuals.
Melleebacca What a lovely DH, cleaning out sick bowls.I am struck dumb with admiration!
Blondes Congratulations on growing baby.
Peacelove Oh dear, that is awful. I do hope it is a hormonal surge, that's too bad. I hope the dentist visit goes OK. Sorry that strawberry toothpaste is no good. The rinsing with bicarb solution thing might be worth a try ? That's what my dentist used to do.
IAmSerious How are you? Everyone?

Ugh, so spoke too soon about vomiting after GTT. Was awake all night with vomiting and diarrhoea -- sick about 50-70 times between 2 and 5, almost all bile with some blood in by end, then diarrhoea. Tested urine at home and ketones were very high (darker than darkest colour on strip) so going to labour ward now for rehydration. Sigh. Have stopped vomiting though. Assume norovirus? But worse because of hyperemesis?

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2017 16:10

Magnum and peace. Sorry had a snake time :(

You think all is good then gloat as I did be happy and then exorcist time again 😂

Hops. That sounds awful. You should have gone to triage /hospital earlier. Poor thing 💐💐

Feel ok. Famous last words. Was sick Friday night so either due a puke 😉 Or will have a few more nice non Luke days

LucindaE · 31/01/2017 16:53

hopsalong My goodness, that sounds horrific. I am so glad that you are getting treatment. I hate to think how dehydrated you were. Sorry, I meant to sympathize about that awful test - and I managed to delete that part of the message.
Blondes A 'snake day' sounds interesting!

Melleebacca · 31/01/2017 17:20

Hops - I so hope you get rehydrated and feel better, it's so awful!

Waves to everyone.

Threw up everything that touched my lips over the course of 5hrs yesterday. The cold water was still cold both ways 🤣

Lucinda - hubby is amazing. His father is a jerk who asked me yesterday why I wasn't better yet. But hubby is so good. Cleaning after me and then DD likes to do number 2s while I'm puking, so poor hubby has too clean up both of us. At least we are now well agreed that two is plenty. When I'm really sick, I daydream of a tubal ligation...

LightTripper · 31/01/2017 17:56

Hopsthat sounds horrific. I hope the hospital has sorted you out.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 31/01/2017 18:57

Hi Lucinda I'm ok thank you, really tired still, and work a struggle but last day tomorrow until a week and a half off! :)
I fainted yesterday which was embarrassing. Not sure if it was low BP, my heart arrhythmia, or dehydration that got me. But remained upright today thank goodness.

Mellee I remember the as cold coming back as going down stage. Feels really odd! I hope you have improved!

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 31/01/2017 18:58

Oh Hops that sounds terrible. I hope you are feeling a bit brighter and have some fluids in you at last. X

sprite25 · 31/01/2017 21:55

Please may I join this thread, currently 6w 3d with no2 and today the dreaded nausea has hit with a vengeance. Doesn't help that me and DD are already poorly. In 1st pregnancy I was given cyclizine from about 8 weeks til about week 20. Hoping this pregnancy the nausea isn't as harsh or long

Meowstro · 01/02/2017 00:29

Hopefully you won't suffer it too long sprite. Fingers crossed you can manage it with medication. Sending hugs hopsalong Flowers. LucindaE, I've tried them all apart from elderflower which I hate anyway. Some have worked and failed me. Back at the EPU for rehydration today, ketones 4+ and I've been trying so hard to avoid it. They've now told me to stagger both medications together instead of the other when I'm sick on one. I'm hoping this will help, I've already been off of work for 5 weeks, I can't see them being much more patient, despite what the law says.

IAmSeriousAndDontCallMeShirley · 01/02/2017 07:53

Hi Sprite and welcome. I hope the Meds do the trick for you and you find it easier this time.
Meow Sorry ketones are 4+, hopefully rehydration will get you back on the right track. The work situation can he hard, but legally they can't touch you for pregnancy related sickness. I was off for ages too, they weren't impressed, but not much you can do when you are so poorly. X

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2017 09:33

Welcome sprite and 8/20 sounds quite good for hg (sorry)

Mine improved at 20 but had a few snakes 😂 24/26/7w and even now at 32w tom still have odd blip. Maybe once/twice a week
