I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hollyhop I so agree with pauseplayrepeat. At the moment it is just a case of getting through each day. The PPS will call back, and be helpful.
You mustn't blame yourself for what isn't your fault. LO's forget the period of comparative neglect very quickly, from all I have seen on these threads.
pauseplayrepeat I hope things aren't too bad today; great advice.

Hi all. Just nipping by to give a quick update. I'm feeling pretty damn good today! Today is the first evening in weeks that I haven't felt sick or ended up wretching all evening. I didn't even need to take any medication tonight.

14 weeks...could this be the tide turning? I hope so but I'm almost certain it come back with a vengeance. It always has before, every time I felt I was getting better then BAM! Hmm Watch this space.....

Oklahoma · 07/04/2017 07:10

Holly the nausea is an absolute killer. I found it the worst part last time as it was just relentless. PSS will ring you back. And you will get through it.

I was one of the unlucky ones who's HG continued after my daughter was born but even mine stopped as soon as I finished BF.

Woohoo Lemon!! Take the wins when you get them!

Mellee I still have food aversions from first time round. Not many but I don't think I will ever be able to eat garlic bread ever again. It definitely does get better once you're no longer pregnant.

Hang on in there guys.

MagnumAddict · 07/04/2017 08:12

blondes what an absolute little gem. A welcome reminder this will all be worth it...

I'm nearly 20 weeks now, scan is this week and have managed to cut down medication a lot. Only need tablets if I know I'm going to be travelling in the car. I still get caught out now and again and the fatigue can still be pretty bad but compared to the 'dark days' life is a lot better.

Will still check in from time to time to try and repay my debt to this this thread as at times has been a lifeline even when I've not been well enough to even post.

Flowers to Lucinda and all who have helped me and to all who are in the thick of it

Melleebacca · 07/04/2017 08:17

Oklahoma - I've got food aversions from DD added to the ones this time around too. Surviving on chips, crackers and noodles at the moment. Occassionally can eat some fruit. Really miss eating good food.

Magnum - good luck for your scan and well done on cutting down your meds.

putputput · 07/04/2017 08:26

Blondes she is so beautiful, had a welling up moment.

Sorry to hear so many of you are struggling. I had a strange few days on metoclopramide which turned me on to an agitated, restless, projectile puking woman. It was the weirdest feeling, I couldn't settle no matter what I was doing. Changed over to ondansetron now and (please please please don't be tempting fate) I had my best day I've had for weeks with only two vomits and managing to leave the house twice.

MardyBum2017 · 07/04/2017 08:47

Well yesterday was a big day... first day back at work and 20 week scan! Phased return at work so manage a morning of catching up on emails etc, back on the wards next week- that will be the tester! Have had 2 whole days of no vomiting which is miraculous! And... we're having a baby GIRL!
Sorry to hear so many of you are having a bad time with sickness and health professionals! I had the occupational health nurse at work tell me yesterday that 'pregnancy isn't an illness' and if I just have plenty of sugary drinks I'll be fine, oh and she assured me (having no knowledge of my medical history or how bad this HG got at times) that she's sure work will be a distraction and I'll feel better in a week! URGH could have screamed!

LightTripper · 07/04/2017 09:56

Just popping on to send a hug to Holly, a big wave to everyone else, and to say how absolutely beautiful your DD is Blondes.

Hollyhop17 · 07/04/2017 10:40

Hi all, thank you so much for your supportive messages, they really do give me a little pick up. Yesterday, although I actually wasnt sick for the first time in about 3 weeks, was a really bad one and I sort of lost it. My DH came home early and is staying homr with me today. Sometimes the lonliness makes it worse for me.

The PSS did ring me back and they think I need to push for ordanstron (sp?) So going to make an appt and go with DH for support. They also put me in touch with some peer suppport which is nice.

I hope everyone has a good day. Sorry to all who are still struggling.

Lemondrop09 · 07/04/2017 12:52

Good grief Mardy how did you not punch her??! I really hope you said something to her. If anyone else was vomiting this amount, it would certainly be classed as an illness! Pregnancy alone is not an illness but HG certainly is! Ooooh I'm seething for you.

Holly odansetron is very good. I had to battle my GP a bit to get it, I printed out the RCOG guidelines and calmly stood my ground. I wouldn't have got through without it. Good luck.

I'm feeling a bit rough today, pretty nauseous but no vomiting yet. A friend is driving over to take me out for coffee and cake this afternoon. That will be interesting as I haven't been out the house really in weeks and weeks. Hopefully it goes ok and I don't choose that point to have a relapse

Oklahoma · 07/04/2017 14:19

Holly take the NICE guidelines with you too. Ondansetron used to be red listed apparently but isn't anymore and is much healer than it used to be so GPS can now prescribe it (or so mine told me recently). Just refuse to leave their office until they either prescribe it to you or refer you to a consultant (who would prescribe it immediately.

Fuming pregnancy may not be an illness but HG is! They wouldn't tell someone with preclampsia that pregnancy isn't an illness!!

Oklahoma · 07/04/2017 14:20

Cheaper not healer...

Hollyhop17 · 07/04/2017 15:09

Thanks for the tips guys, will be sure to print off guidelines and take them with me. I feel like its my last hope as I've tried all the rest. Does it help with the nausea?

After not throwing up yesterday thought I had turned a corner and given its such a nice day we went out for a pub lunch. It came straight back up again... Still, I have got to sit in some sunshine today and DH is here so could be worse!

Mardy, thats bloody awful. When my work sent me to occ health (as I had had too much time off for 'morning sickness' ) I literally made him google HG in his office as he had no clue. After reading it, and me being severly sick over his shoe, he changed his tune and wrote a supportive report...

KatieGator · 07/04/2017 16:34

Hi everyone -

I'd like to join for a bit of support! I'm 7 weeks into HG pregnancy no 2 (and lurked in this forum with no 1 - he's now a nearly 2 yo).

I started cyclizine and ondansetron (same as last time) as soon as I started vomiting - thanks to v helpful GP who remembered my last pregnancy. However, I've struggled - still vomiting, only 2-4 x day now but enough to lose 3kg in a couple of weeks. I'm not bad enough to be admitted and have loads of support with toddler (amazing parents/in-laws) but just feel so fed up. I think I'd forgotten how bad it was last time and I haven't responded quite as well to ondansetron this time either... I'm off work for the next couple of weeks but it is a really demanding job and I feel guilty being off sick.

Anyway, I've found reading this thread v helpful and I hope everyone else is managing to hold it together. And if anyone has anything else to try or the magic HG bullet, let me know!

LucindaE · 07/04/2017 20:03

KatieGator Welcome and I am so glad this thread helped in your last preg, and that you have so much real life support. Still, with work and a toddler it still must be incredibly hard. Glad you've got a good medication combination there, too. As you are a veteran and have read this thread a lot, I don't need to give my 'have you got kesostix' and recommendations of flat coke, the juice and fruit of tinned fruit, etc etc.
Hollyhop I am so glad you feel more positive and DH is with you and PPS rang back with good advice and an offer of peer support. Maybe a repeat of that vomiting on shoes, if the GP refuses Ondansetron, would be a fine idea?

MagnumAddict Thanks for the flowers. I am so glad you are a lot better. Good luck with the scan.
MardyBum I cannot believe in the idiotic remarks of that occupational health nurse Angry. So condescending! I hope work has been ok.
Melleebacca Sorry to hear your diet is still so restricted.
Oklahoma Sorry to hear you were one of the unlucky few of us who suffered after birth, and in your case, for so long.
LightTripper Lovely to hear from you.
Lemondrop Good news. I hope you have many more good days.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

putputput Congratulations on a good day and I hope Ondansetron continues to work. Oh no, about metoclopramide.

Putputput - metachloropromide did the same thing to me, hence I'm on ondansetron now. Ondansetron is as strong as you can get and works by closing the valve to the stomach, so is good at preventing vomiting because it hurts to, but not really effective on nausea.

Mardy - congratulations on the little pink bundle 😊. And I'm appalled by that comment. My dad is going through Chemo at the moment and he acknowledges that HG is worse than what he is going through.

Holly - please try stronger meds. Glad your hubby came home. Loneliness is so hard when you're sick.

Katie - welcome. Lovely to hear you've got so much support, it's harder when you have a toddler too. No magic bullet, just meds, rest and lots of patience. Good luck.

Thank goodness it's the weekend! Waves to all

Lules · 07/04/2017 20:23

putputput it did the same to me too, although it stop me being sick. Horrible feeling.

Lemondrop09 · 07/04/2017 21:28

Soooooo...... hot chocolate and cake went down ok.....and has now come back up. On the plus side, woo, zero calorie cake!

Melleebacca · 07/04/2017 22:04

Lemondrop - that made me 😀. Hopefully you didn't have too much burning? I avoid sugar as while I'm pregnant it burns my throat. 😊😊😊

Lemondrop09 · 07/04/2017 22:15

Tbh, it made a change to throw up on a full stomach. I mean, it was still pretty grim, but not as nasty as a stomach full of bile!

I knew it was a bad idea, but it was just so nice to be out the house for a few hours and doing something normal.

Hollyhop17 · 07/04/2017 22:21

Yeah I know what you mean Lemon. I had to run to the pub toilet and it is grim being sick while other people are in the loo but kinda worth it to get out of the house and pretend to be normal for a change!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2017 09:59

Thank uou all. I think she is gorgeous but so does everyone who meets her

She was worth all the sickness and Christ I was sick the first 5mths

Then like @shirley I had edema for the last 8w. Legs are still swollen now but are finally reducing and still in my sexy slippers as no other shoes fit

Hope your legs ease but seems sadly once edema sets in that's it till give birth (sorry) my bp also went high and now on bp tablets - see gp for review next week

Someone said about 24w bad again. I had blips throughout. Had a good week or two and would gloat mention it on here - then few days later be an exorcist style sickness supreme .....

LucindaE · 08/04/2017 10:01

MardyBum I forgot to congratulate you on expecting a baby girl.
Lemondrop and Hollyhop It was brave of you to try doing something normal. Blondes always insisted on it- she attended weddings, etc, and if anyone heard her bowing down before the Porcelain Idol, she let them enjoy the vocals...Grin

Hollyhop17 · 08/04/2017 10:09

Haha Blondes, your post reminded me of when I came on here to tell people I had been for a run. God I really thought it had gone, but nope just hiding for a few weeks! Glad to hear its all worth it and really hope the swelling goes down very soon.

I've woken up not feeling nauseous which is the first time in a while... Not sure what to do with myself now! Fingers crossed everyone has a good day and is able to enjoy some sunshine!

LucindaE · 08/04/2017 11:36

Blondes Cross posted. Synchronicity - I was just talking about you in my own post!
Hollyhyop Good luck for enjoying some sunshine. Opinion seems divided on how far fresh air works - some swear by sea breezes.
Melleebacca It is so tiresome that you can't eat sweet things- does it set off terrible heartburn? That happened to me in the third tri, but not before.
I too, hope everyone can enjoy the sunshine a bit...
