I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

MamaErmintrude and LightTripper I forgot to add to my post that out of all these threads going back to 2010, only a handful of women have reported suffering from it. That makes very odds on your being one of them, so don't fret over it.

Hello all - first post here and feeling very low and miserable.

I'm about 11 weeks pregnant and have bee suffering with nausea and vomiting since Christmas.

Two weeks ago I was signed off work (for two weeks) because of the sickness and towards the end of week two I started to feel like I'd turned a corner.

However, yesterday was my first shift back and within three hours I started feeling really unwell again and half way into my shift they had to send me home as I just couldn't function.

I started vomiting again about 6pm last night and it's still going on. There's absolutely nothing in my stomach, all I'm bringing up is bile and phlegm. Even trying to get out of bed will trigger me to have another episode.

I'm not eating. I'm trying to drink but I doubt I'm absorbing much as I haven't passed urine yet today (it's 1pm).

I've got such a bad headache which I think is making the nausea/vomiting worse but there's no point trying to take Paracetamol as I will just bring it back up.

I have a 2yr 9m old and I didn't have any sickness when I was pregnant with him so all this has knocked it out of me Sad

HaichM · 02/02/2017 13:38

Sorry to hear about all the suffering. Sorry not been on in a few weeks, I've been a bit up and down especially mood wise. I'm still mainly just suffering with lots of nausea and dizziness with some vomiting, so kudos and extra sympathies to those with more (that was me with DS).

Turns out my dizziness and associated issues are a form of vertigo, which I did wonder about so I've got some meds for that, which means I'm also going to be taking my UTI meds at last. Unimpressed that both say common side-effects inc nausea so fingers crossed here I can manage them, they mainly stay down and my nausea doesn't get much worse.

Thank you to whoever it was who said their HG is also very fickle. It really does help to here I'm not alone. And to the lady who said she was fed up of being fed up, that's so me too atm.

I've got to try and do the washing up today as I've done no real housework so far this week, thankfully DH has just been getting on with it and then giving me cuddles when I want them but still, it increases my feelings of usefulness and guilt. Also going to try and go to knit and chat tonight, even though I haven't done any knitting and am not sure if I can with the dizziness and headaches but I need the company. I miss social interaction. Anyone else finding that?

Waves to everyone

LucindaE · 02/02/2017 13:50

Writerwannabe83 Welcome. I'm concerned about that headache. That is one of the symptoms of dehydration as it gets worse.Do phone up the dr's- for an emergency appointment. If you have been unable to retain fluids for twenty-four hours then it counts as a medical emergency in a pregnant woman, and they are highly unlikely to be dismissive. Are ice cubes or ice lollies any use, if you have any? Have you got a vague feeling or dry skin and scanty, dark urine? All signs of dehydration. Did they not put you on any anti emetics? Anyway, if they did, they are obviously not doing much and you need other treatment.
HaichM Much sympathy. The sheer boredom and isolation is very hard to bear. DH sounds as if he is being very nice.

Mama if it helps, my last pregnancy, which was about an hour ago, was horrendous. I only had five days from getting the BFP until I delivered when I wasn't being sick. I truly mean it when I say that as soon as he was here the seemingly perpetual nausea abated. It was quite astonishing really. That and the brown fluid that was passed off as coffee and the weirdly bendy toast I got after he was born tasted bloody amazing. The Mexican Veggie Beanfeast with rice that was served for lunch is also a memorable culinary highlight despite its annoyingly peppy title. Try not to worry. I am sure it will lift the moment your sprog arrives. Now if you'll excuse me, I am off to have a tactical chunder before I advise my client he hasn't a hope in next week's appeal hearing! X

Writerwannabe83 · 02/02/2017 15:03

lucinda - I've just passed urine for the first time today and it was almost brown it was such a dark orange.

I've rang my GP surgery and am waiting for a call back from in on-call doctor.

I can't face the thought of sitting in A&E for hours though if he thinks I might need to be admitted Sad

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/02/2017 15:52

Writer try ice lollies, melon, jelly, anything juicy that you can get some fluid from.

MamaErmintrude · 02/02/2017 16:27

writer ask your doctor to ring through to EPU. It means you can go straight there and bypass A&E. Have you tried changing the temperature of what you're drinking? Coldness seems to help a lot of us, along with tiny sips through a straw. Handholding, it definitely sounds like you need admitted.

Lucinda my goodness you are a trooper. I can't believe you persevered with feeding through this! And thanks to all for comments about rareness. I have now mentally regrouped and am pudding myself up just in case - it's actually really helpful to know because if I hadn't, it would probably have stopped me persevering with BFing whereas at least now I'll know that if it happens hopefully it's short-lived.

Ruby I hope your last pregnancy was longer than an hour ago Grin

Haich sending much sympathy and virtual company. It's awful isn't it. I'm sorry not to be able to do more Sad

On a happier note, I've just had my 36 week scan and she is looking good! Incredibly she somehow weighs 6lb and her head is down. We'll get there ladies... I see the pink castle shimmering in the distance...

LucindaE · 02/02/2017 16:31

WrtierWannabe83 Sorry to hear that. It's horrible waiting in A and E, but you will be so much better for fluids, and they'll revise your meds. They may start the rehydration actually in A and E.

Feel silly complaining on here as so many have it much worse then me, sitting here feeling nauseous and acidy. DH is back to work tomorrow after 2 days off and I'm almost panicking about being on my own with DD while I feel like this.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/02/2017 17:20

Totally feel you sprite. Good luck. What are your plans tomorrow? CBeebies and biscuits? Maybe get DH to prepare a lunch box for DD for tomorrow so you don't have to think about it.

Melleebacca · 02/02/2017 18:23

Sprite-I don't have many days alone with DD at the moment, we try and keep it to one a week. When I do, hubby puts out little snack bags for DD on the counter, and I just give her one throughout the day. I also lie on the sofa that she can climb onto as well, and she brings books and sits beside me.

Mama - when I made it to the pink castle, I threw up the toast, but that was possibly an effect of the drugs. After that, I had energy and my appetite was back and food tasted so good!

I've got to take DD to the chiro today. A 10min drive each way, and a 15min session which I'm terrified of. Especially since I threw up my ondansetron pill this morning. Not a good sign.

RubyReins · 02/02/2017 18:56

Ach you know what I mean! Number 2 isn't quite one yet and we were a little surprised!

SickRose · 02/02/2017 19:05

I'm really sorry about this question. It's just I'm having a bad day and I'm getting so panicky. I keep seeing mentions of women going for their 12 week scan and there being no heart beat. Im 12 weeks tomorrow so it seems to be hitting me more than normal as I'm usually quite practical, whatever happens happens and there's nothing I can do about it. I've not had any bleeding since I've been pregnant so I know that's a positive but I also know it's not always guaranteed. Basically, is the fact that I'm still nauseous and vomiting a good sign?

CastleFeck · 02/02/2017 19:38

Rose yes it's a great sign, try not to worry too much, it's impossible not to I know, but the odds are in your favour.

Writer hope you're getting looked after.

Hi everyone. To whoever said they were feeling down, I'm sorry. this is a real mental marathon as well as a physical one. I've had a good 48hrs and feel like a different woman. (29wks)

After hospital this morning I'm now in the gestational diabetes camp as well as HG, but I feel that keeping an eye on my sugars and being aware will help with the nausea. Little and often eating of low GI foods seems to really help. Silver linings and all.

LucindaE · 02/02/2017 20:03

SickRose Certainly, with MMC's, there tends to be a reduction in nausea and vomiting. All luck. The chances are greatly in your favour that you'll come back delighted.
MamaErmintrude Thanks for the compliment!
HaichM Sorry about vertigo.
Writerwannabe83 I do hope you are getting treatment.
sprite25 and Melleebacca and others - great advice about how to cope with a DD. Colouring books - stories on CD's - not sure how old she is?
Castlefeck Sorry to hear that diabetes is confirmed.
Melleebacca I hope the chiro appointment went OK?
RubyReins I hope this pregnancy is easier for you. What meds are you on? It must be awful, 'chundering' between clients...You must be a tidy puker who manages to make the loo.
Waves to peaceloveandbiscuits Blondes and everyone...
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Not on anything yet LucindaE - nothing really worked for me last time as the tablets I was given made me very sleepy and I needed my wits about me. I am a spewing ninja - always have been. Packing lots of wet wipes and chewing gum. The streaky mascara is a bit of a problem though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/02/2017 21:24

Winter. Headaches and dark wee are not good signs. Please go to your epu or local maternity

Tripper they may induce you 39/4 ,,,,, us geriatric's ......

Mama. Envious of 36w.

Sick Rose. Yes a good sign. I would worry when felt ok ish and think gawd something's happened to bubs. Then few days later heaving away everywhere

Sure all is fine

HaichM · 02/02/2017 21:42

Thanks everyone. I made it to knit and chat tonight and it was nice just to be among company. I even managed a few rows of something and a few bites of some tea. I also managed to sort DS' tea out and wash up, so I'm feeling a bit better about my usefulness.

Sickrose: I second the opinions above. I stopped reading other threads once people started discussing bleeding and no heartbeats on scans because I felt I had enough to worry about. It didn't stop me from wanting to cry with relief when I saw s/he wiggling around all well and happy on the screen. Try and think positively.

Winter: i hope you've heard from the docs and are getting the help you need in the hosp.

Sprite: i hope all goes well tomorrow. Don't feel guilty for any TV babysitting but I think Mellee's idea of doing as much as you can from the sofa is a good one. That's how I cope with my almost 6 DS, though I know it's nowhere like having a toddler all day.

Melle: are you managing to sleep any better? I'm not unfortunately, and I'm beginning to wonder if the lack is contributing to my nausea and headaches/dizziness. I manage a couple of hours a day, maybe 4-6 with naps/dozing. Hope tomorrow goes well.

Hope everyone has a good night.

Melleebacca · 02/02/2017 23:30

Haich - had a rough night last night. Woke at midnight with a racing heart and think that's why I bought up my meds this morning. If sleep is off, definitely worse.

Lucinda - made it to chiro and struggled through. Feeling really weak from the walk to/from car. DD hates chiro and my ears are still ringing from the screams. McDs for lunch.

Meowstro · 03/02/2017 01:08

Sickrose, continuing symptoms is a good sign. Although, I have had better days and even good days straight after hospitalisation but an utter puke fest in the following days. Try not to read too much about other people's pregnancies on the internet. I, too, got myself in a tizz the other day for this reason.

Winter, I do hope you've managed to get treatment. I hope you're feeling a little relief soon.

sprite, Mellee, Hatch, and anyone I've missed, hugs to all of you with DC at home whilst dealing with HG, you're all so strong to be struggling through it.

Had an awful day in that all I've only managed to keep down today is 1/3 of a tin of peaches food wise, had my head in a bucket all day until 8pm when I had nothing left to give. I've got a tickly dry cough I've picked up from hospital which is making things worse (do cough sweets make anyone else gag!?) but I'm feeling positive on the whole - I've managed to keep down a decaf tea this evening and 750ml of squash.

I have a question though, has anyone had their HG sickness go completely with their meds? I was told to stop taking meds during the night once I stop being sick on the whole and then wean myself off. That concept seems crazy to me right now!

Melleebacca · 03/02/2017 05:12

Meow - with DD I stopped vomiting at 26w, then eased down to 1 ondansetron a day, then 1 every two days until I went on maternity leave at 34w and stopped completely. I figured being at home all the time, I could vomit if I needed to. But didn't vomit again till I was in labour.

Pip1982 · 03/02/2017 07:08

Morning everyone. Sorry for the radio silence, I've been working and finding the whole experience bloody terrible tbh. Currently on the train to the office again. I hope you are all feeling not too awful today and looking forward to the weekend. I feel guilty as all I'm looking forward to is being able to lay down all day (although 2 DC means that will never happen!) Xxx

peaceloveandbiscuits · 03/02/2017 09:05

Meow I tried a throat sweet last week for an horrific sore throat and immediately vommed Hmm can't hold anything in my mouth anymore.

Writerwannabe83 · 03/02/2017 09:35

Morning everyone - the doctor was really supportive last night but did say if this don't improve then I'd need to be admitted to hospital for hydration.

She prescribed me some anti sickness medicine (cyclizine) but unfortunately they have to be taken with caution in relation to a certain health condition which Sod's Law, I have.

As soon as I got home I tried having a small glass of water but within ten minutes it all came straight back up.

I then decided to try an ice lolly as recommended by a previous poster and it stayed down, so I had a second lolly and that stayed down too. About an hour later I started sipping warm, flat Sprite as I'd been told that's really good for settling stomachs and I still wasn't vomiting. I carried on having small sips and then as it all stayed down I braved having a yogurt at about 10pm and I kept that down too. I also passed urine again which was really reassuring as my urine output is what was worrying the doctor the most.

I then went to bed and have carried on taking sips of Sprite this morning and I've managed to keep down two glasses which is really positive and now I'm nibbling on a plain biscuit to see if I can keep that down and try and start getting some food into me as I'm feeling quite weak.

The doctor also gave me another sick note for two weeks - which I'm dreading announcing to my Managers....
