I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi guys! Hope you are all doing ok, I've been suffering really badly lately today doc has prescribed ranitide (1 twice a day), ondansetron (once a day) and cyclizine (3 times a day... been on since week 6). I'm now 14+1.
What are your experiences of those drugs?

I'm off sick from work, doc wants me off until 19th but I'm worried about being off that long (money!!).

Southlondon321 · 07/12/2016 13:02

Good news is due date is now 6th June (9 days earlier!)

CaptainWarbeck · 07/12/2016 13:10

Been to the doctors and was finally given ondansetron. I took one when I got home and the sickness started to lift, I'd forgotten what it was like to feel half way normal. I managed to eat a proper meal after just crackers most of the day. She said take it when you need it up to 3x a day so I'll see how I go. DH has a really long work day tomorrow so if I'm feeling like today again I'll definitely be taking another one.

Hopefully it works as well for you too south.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/12/2016 14:12

South. They work on newborns that had reflux - tho that doesn't help you lol

Give it a week to get into your body

Captain. Go for max dose. 3 a day and see how you by fri /sat.

It's not worth cutting down as I'm always sick

Saying that I am sick in eves at mo. Must be. 24w hormone surge .....

Lucinda - All good today thanks. But I do feel ok then literally comes on within a few mins. I know the signs

I am worried about lh. No reply to my mess. Havnt seen her on any threads :(

LHReturns · 07/12/2016 15:58

Hello my HG friends!

I am so very sorry for silence. Not intentional - and I now feel terrible that you were worried about me. I am very touched, and thank you.

We have a very complicated living situation at the moment while our London home is renovated, so we are basically commuting from our Home Counties place which is near where my stepchildren live with their mother. Trying to keep my DS in some kind of nursery schedule, and keep my job, with HG (plus throw in this week's train strikes) has NOT been helpful. Hope to move back home early next week which should help a lot.

I am writing this from a dodgy hotel room with DS rammed into a far too small travel cot in the bathroom while he has his nap - all so he could go to nursery today and tomorrow (see Santa, sing the songs, make a gingerbread house etc etc).

I am going to read back all the pages I have missed and come back to posters properly. So I hope you will forgive this post being 'all about me'.

I am now 15 weeks and I would say my original HG has improved a great deal over the past few weeks. I am only taking Ondansetron as needed now, and completely off the steroids (the moonface is slowly retreating).

However, I say 'original' HG because I have something new which I'm not sure might be a new manifestation of HG - because I don't know anyone else who has this as early as 15 weeks. It started about a week ago as what I can only describe as severe acid reflux - particularly bad at night. To the point that over the past few days I am waking throughout the night with the most shocking foul acidic taste burning in my mouth, and multiple long-lasting and VERY violent vomits (the Puke-Peeing has reached entirely new levels of indecency)....last couple days these vomits have been tinged with blood which is JUST GREAT.

This is not like my previous 24 hour a day sickness....this is very 'up high' (i should mention that I have a VERY high bump much earlier than with baby number 1). I did have this reflux with DS1 but at more like 6 or 7 months. But the nausea when it hits is so sudden and so violent.

So i now have 20mg of Omeprazole, constantly sucking Gaviscon, and eating and drinking an exclusively low acid diet. And sleeping in a raised position. I only started the Omeprazole yesterday and so far I am still suffering terribly (vomited in a taxi today etc). No real improvement yet.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I am not even 4 months pregnant, yet I thought this reflux was only an issue when the bump was so big that it was pushing the stomach contents right up? While that cannot be the issue here yet (if it is then I have a LONG way to go!).

Will the Omeprozole work over the coming days?

Ideas and advice and experiences seriously appreciated. I feel I am being bashed by one thing then the next.

Thank you again all for caring about me - it helps so much, and I promise not to be quiet for a prolonged period again. Life got on top of me, and I became tired and depressed with it all.

LHReturns · 07/12/2016 16:00

Blondes and RobberBride thank you for your lovely PMs. I appreciated them a great deal (Blondes when yours arrived I was deep in this reflux thing starting, but I'm so sorry to have let days pass with no reply).

Southlondon321 · 07/12/2016 16:33

Hi LH I've got ranitidine for the same heartburn thing. I've invested in more pillows than you have ever seen to prop me up!! Hoping a long pillow also helps.

On top of all that I've actually got a tummy bug. Diarrhoea started yesterday and doc says it's not HG related. So I obv picked up a bug. Desperate for it to end as prolonging nausea and worsening dehydration.

Is anyone being looked after by a doctor at their antenatal visits? My doc trying to arrange it but it's not the done thing in this area. All midwife led and you don't necessarily have the same midwife. He is also concerned about the length of time between my appointments.

LucindaE · 07/12/2016 16:47

LR Returns So glad you are not in hospital, even if you are stressed and that acid reflux sounds awful. It does make the sickness so much worse. I hope the meds help you, that sick in taxi thing sounds miserable. To be honest, it was the savage heartburn that made me know I was pregnant after the first time - I had it from the time my period was due, and reflux on and off from early on, and I think unfortunately this seems to go with the Hyperemesis joy ride (which does at least end in the Pink Castle), from what I've seen on these threads.
I hope your stressful home situation gets sorted out soon - the last thing you need atm.
SouthLondon A lot of people have found that combination really effective. Sorry to hear you've been really bad; were you admitted for fluids? Sometimes it still takes that to get effective drugs.
CaptainWarbeck That is happy news!
Waves to Blondes and everyone. Here's the updated due dates list, then. Three of you neck and neck round the 3-7 June date. A lovely time of year to have a birthday.

Welcome back LH, I am glad/sad
to hear from you. That heartburn and acid sounds horrific. I've not had any heartburn yet but used to get it terribly with gall bladder problems before I had it chopped out. I was actually told to stop having Gaviscon while I was on omeprazole... the doctor said that antacids can counteract the ingredients in other medications? (I think... I was taking A LOT of tramadol at the time... maybe worth getting a professional second opinion?)

I went to work today! Go me!

I spent longer commuting than actually at work... and it took me about 30 mins after arriving to stop shaking but it was good to be back. I avoided seeing lots of staff by arriving/departing between breaks but popped in to see my y7 and 8 classes who were very pleased to see me - one boy cried bit weird

RobberBride · 07/12/2016 17:25

LH I second the ranitidine suggestion, your GP should prescribe it. It is fine in pg and it is what they give people with hiatus hernias (three family members-in-law have them, they get horrible reflux). I also suggest looking into the hiatus hernia diet as some of it is quite counter intuitive - some things are obvious (tomatoes) but some things not so obvious. It is so nice to see you are ok (well - ish) but sorry you've been so poorly Flowers.

SouthLondon you have my immense sympathy, that was the start of my week, sinusitis and a stomach bug at the same time plus continuing pg nausea. Avoiding dehydration was a massive struggle. Can I recommend fizzy or flat fat Coke? I tried it for the first time this am with a paracetemol and my god the difference it has made to my day. Hydration (water was just going through me) and sugar and caffeine.

Four congrats on going back!

Lucinda I swear every time you post that list I'm further down it cries. Please can only people less than 15w join from now on? I just want to get over half way up the list!

RobberBride · 07/12/2016 17:26

Also South did your GP ask for a stool sample? (Sorry TMI). Mine made me send one off in case it was something worse being masked by the sinusitis/winter vomiting bug/pg nausea.

Southlondon321 · 07/12/2016 18:14

Hi all, yeah got to do a stool sample. I moved not long ago and i haven't had chance to change my docs to the oneknmy road so have to uber up to my old
Place. It's less than 2 miles but annoying when I just need to drop off my poo lol. I'll do it first thing then come back and eat because I can't eat and move soon after otherwise I'm really sick.
He checked I haven't got a UTI which is good and ketones are low. So I think priority is to get fluids up and then I should be able to avoid hospital and drip. I was really against it at first but now to speed up getting better I will do anything. I think because of my diarrhoea they don't want me anywhere near a hospital. Hoping the antenatal doc at my hosp will want to see me. Feeling very worried about baby due to medication, dehydration, sickness, diarrhoea, bad diet, stress, etc. Don't want to wait til end of Jan for another look in!

Southlondon321 · 07/12/2016 18:31

Question for everyone - do you have additional antenatal support in second tri when on so many drugs?

LucyHMK · 07/12/2016 18:58

Hi everyone, sorry for the MIA, this thread doesn't like me at all - I don't get notifications & my brain has essentially now given up with remembering anything.

Going to try & answer the questions I can remember...

My HG started getting better at about 33 weeks & that's when I started to wean off meds again. I tried it many many times before to no avail. I'm now off meds altogether but I am being sick, not 50 times a day though, more just a few (less than 10, it's manageable). I feel sick all day though & all night. Feeling really quite fed up.

The acid reflux thing, yes, I've had it all the way through. It's nasty 😕

For the newbies, I also have developed alopecia from being so ill, but it seems to be growing back with fine baby hair - if it happens to you, don't panic. It's a shock reaction apparently.

In a whole new low I managed to tip boiling tea all over me & my (just washed!) furry blanket. The muscles in my hands seem to have given up & the carpal tunnel is killing me. It's so very painful. I can't grip anything. It's

Only 8 sleeps 'til it's over!! Bring on the major surgery to bring this all to an end. Never thought I'd be looking forward to a c section, but there you go!

Waves to all 👋🏻

Southlondon321 · 07/12/2016 19:04

Best of luck Lucy. Sorry to hear it's been such a nightmare. Hope you have a speedy recovery from the c section and you enjoy your new family x

moonoverthewater · 07/12/2016 21:05

Lucy - can't believe how much you have been through. Hope the C section comes around quickly for you

RobberBride · 07/12/2016 22:54

Good luck Lucy!

To everyone who is on child no 2 or 3, does feeling this crap in pregnancy guarantee you an easyish birth and a child that sleeps through the night?! I'm clinging onto that hope right now, and I'm nowhere near as ill as most of you.

LucyHMK · 07/12/2016 23:57

Thanks, ladies.

Robber - my husband says bump is already grounded as soon as he's out! I keep telling him (bump) that I expect a good sleeper, who feeds well, & who repays mummy for 9 months of no sleep & hospitals! We shall see.

There is no way I could do this again. Always wanted a little girl as well, but that's not happening the natural way. I nearly lost this baby through being so ill & for months I couldn't even turn over in bed or sip water without being sick. There's no way I could risk it again with having a toddler to look after. It wouldn't be fair on anyone.

Attempting to put up some chrimbo decks. Seems I have basically bought every single Christmas item that says 'first Christmas 2016'!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2016 00:19

Lh. Yah you are ok. Was thinking the worst had happened. Thankfully not. Apart from living in the country 😂😂

Sorry to hear been poorly
And sick /wee at same time

I'm still keeping hold of the rosette for non peeing 😱😇😘

I have serious heartburn most evenings but no reflux as of yet .....

South. I get seen every time by 'big cheese consultant' but more as I red flagged as geriatric , first preg over 40, ivf, dvt

Says on notes I'm
Consultant led. Unless any problems then no reason to see consultant
And just see mw

Robber I'm 4th on the list 😛😛

Four. I agree with that. Slightly diff as I'm a maternity nurse but had lots of babies with reflux and agree gavisicon
And omeprezole
Do counter act each other ..,,,,

South. Once I hit 13w i was being seen once a month but now every 3w but again more due to my red flagging

Lucy. Why off meds totally yet still being sick 10 times a day - I don't understand why you don't take pills again?

But yah for 8 sleeps. Then I'm
3rd on the list😍😍😍

LucyHMK · 08/12/2016 05:40

Blondes, a lot of the meds aren't okay for the end of pregnancy. I don't want him to have any withdrawal symptoms. It's manageable now, I'm sick less than 10 times a day.

Just woke up practically screaming with hand pain. It's so ridiculously painful 😭 Nice husband made me a hot water bottle & fed me painkillers, I can't get them out of the packet now.

One week today!! 🎉🎉🎉

Callie85 · 08/12/2016 07:13

Hi everyone,
Just needed to air some of my worries and stresses! I had severe hyperemesis with both of my dds - a story you'll all be familiar with. Hospitalised at bang on 8 weeks both times, constant admissions throughout pregnancy and only finally stopped being sick once they were born.
We've just started ttc for dd3 and I'm pretty sure we've been successful and that I am pregnant. My period isn't even due until Sunday but the hyperemesis symptoms have started up and I am feeling lousy. I'm not even 4 weeks! In my previous pregnancies I had a few weeks respite and only started feeling really terrible well into week 6. I guess I'm just feeling frightened and anxious, that the symptoms are starting so so early (before I even have a bfp).
This is much wanted pregnancy and I had steeled myself for things to be bad from 8 weeks. But to be feeling like this before I've even missed my period is really worrying me. I work ft and had always planned to tell my boss early so that I could explain HG and what to expect. But this is so early.
I guess it could just be normal morning sickness and not develop into HG this time???? Wishful thinking?
Anyway I just wanted to reach out to other people who understand. I have a wonderful DH who has become an absolute hg expert but my experience of pregnancy is so different to all my friends and I feel a bit isolated and anxious.
I hope you are all having good days! So sorry to hear how badly some of you are suffering.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2016 07:30

Lucy. I didn't know that. Will I need to cut down /come off cyczline before bubs is here?

Callie. Welcome and poor brave mad you 😉 Going for no 3 if suffered with 1&2

You know the drill so go and medication ASAP as don't want you in hospital in a few weeks

CaptainWarbeck · 08/12/2016 08:34

Thanks blondes. Going for max ondansetron dose today. I took one 4mg tablet yesterday, it kicked in really quickly, felt great after 20min but by half an hour the nausea descended again Sad has anyone else experienced it working and fading so quickly? Going to try 8mg 3xday which is max and see if that's any better.

Robber I think we all deserve easy babies after a pregnancy like this! Even just the relief of not being so sick will be amazing! Lucy I think our bub will be grounded for a bit too after all this Wink

Callie sorry you're feeling lousy. I'm so impressed you're trying for #3. Super woman! Get on the meds as soon as you think you might possibly need to.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2016 08:57

Def take max dose and let it get into your system
