I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hello everyone, I've been lurking for a while and making use of everyone's wisdom on here. I'm due June 24th and had horrendous nausea early on, couldn't move my head for fear of throwing up, couldn't eat anything, couldn't do anything, couldn't look after DS, vomiting up water each day, had to tell family early for help etc. It seems a fairly common story on this board! Thankful I didn't need hospitalisation though like a lot of people do. I ended up on metoclopramide 3x day which has really helped despite getting really tired on them.

So (other than just a general rant about how shit it all is), I'm wondering if anyone's been helped by medication and then it stopped being as effective? I'm getting odd days here and there where the nausea is back, if I drive anywhere in the car/try and do too much (this is literally just something like trying to see a friend for a walk so I don't go out of my mind with boredom)/don't get a nap etc. I end up feeling that horrible low stomach sickness again, working out where I can go to throw up if I need to and just crap and hating pregnancy all over again. I'm 11 weeks. Is it worth asking to try something else or is this just par for the course?

Any kind words about all this being worthwhile will be welcomed too, I'm totally down in the dumps after being essentially housebound for the last 5 weeks and feeling like a rubbish mum to DS. Sorry for the rant Confused

moonoverthewater · 06/12/2016 06:55

thanks Blonde Smile
I have a doctors appointment on Thursday so will ask about meds then.

moonoverthewater · 06/12/2016 06:58

Hi Captain
Sorry to hear you are bad with this too. I've also been pretty much housebound for the last 10 weeks and it's driving me mad!
I bought some sick bags from amazon so if I venture to my mums or for fresh air with DH I have the safety blanket of having one in my pocket so know i won't be spewing all over the street!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/12/2016 09:05

I swear by coop 10p bags. Big enough to get head into and no drips from the bottom

Why no mw if 17w 😱 That not right and your local department should be more supportive 😢

Captain. Nausea and sickness vary. I saw a Def improvement at 14/15w and 20w

Still sick some days. Then may have few days sick free usually mention it on here and then sick again 😷🙄😷

MotherofPearl · 06/12/2016 09:33

Big welcome to Captain and Moon, and sorry you're in the club nobody wants to join.
Captain, you're lucky the meto has been of some help, but unfortunately I'd say 11 weeks is probably too early for a more stable, consistent improvement. As you've found, it's very easy to experience a set back, even with what seems like 'minor' activity. Also, hormone surges come and go, and they can really initiate resurgences of nausea and sickness. The medication that seems to be most effective is Ondansetron, but it's not a miracle cure, and some doctors can be reluctant to prescribe it (although it is safe). It may be worth chatting to your GP?
Moon, it sounds like you've been badly let down by HCPs. I'd like to second Blondes and say you really need to see a midwife. Glad you're going to discuss meds with your GP. Apart from getting some anti-emetics on board, I'd strongly suggest getting a prescription for a decent anti-acid e.g. Rantidine or Omprezole. Rantidine is also available without a prescription, as Zantac. It made a HUGE difference to my sickness in my last pregnancy.
Blondes, lovely to hear about positive visit to midwife, and that baby is thriving.
Four, sorry about sickness yesterday. What's happening about return to work? Don't rush back if you're still being so sick.
Light, you sound like you have a very busy week. Don't overdo it! My DP is also an economist. Grin
Right, must dash, house is a tip and DD2 is napping, so now's my chance to sort it out!

moonoverthewater · 06/12/2016 10:55

Thanks mother of pearl, I'm definitely going to chase things up Thursday.

Moon , I have had 2 midwife appointments, my allocated midwife was off work when I had my first and when I had my second she was dealing with something else and told me that another midwife would start my appointment and she would finish it...I never saw her! I bumped into a lady from work while I was there who had just had her baby and she said that she was always getting let down by the midwives at the practice!

Hope everyone is ok today

CaptainWarbeck · 06/12/2016 11:00

Thanks everyone. I don't know anyone else in this situation so it's really good to have the support here. One friend who is same stage as me said she was feeling fine except for being a bit hungrier... I was obviously pleased for her but in my head like right lalala I can't listen to this Grin

I think you're right mother and it's hormone surges that are making bad days and good days. I've been to the GP and got stematil added to the meto so hopefully that gives some relief.

Hope everyone else is feeling okay today.

fourcorneredcircle · 06/12/2016 11:54

Only two voms so far today...

Still planning on going to work tomorrow, might adjust my timings though to go a bit later than planned and stay later as a result... or might not. Going to see how I feel.

user1477229112 · 06/12/2016 12:37

Hey ladies I'm 17 weeks now and although medicated I am feeling a bit of relief and haven't vomited in a few days still nausea. I've had bleeding/ spotting this week for the third time this trimester which is really worrying and obviously non-hg related. Can any of you ladies who are a bit further on than me advise if you got yourself
Weaned off the meds when and how you did this ? X

LucindaE · 06/12/2016 15:20

Welcome to moonoverthewater and CaptainWarbeck. Very sorry you are both suffering.
moonoverthewater It's awful that although ill for so long, you haven't been offfered meds. I am glad you are going to demand them on Thursday. Do take an advocate if you feel to ill to argue your corner and do as I say, not as I did, and don't hesitate to vomit in front of the GP. I'm really sorry to hear of your MMC. They are awful, and to have beeeding after that is really nerve wracking. Much sympathy. It sounds as if the neglect is awful. Don't try and rush back to work; if you must return see if you can arrange a staggered return. Resting is one of the best things for this.
CaptainWarbeck Without doubt this will be worthwhile and you are not a rubbishy mother, only ill. Your LO will almost certainly forget about this period of comparative neglect from all I have heard on these threads. Things will get better. Almost nobody suffers as badly later on as they did in the first tri. As MotherofPearl says, there are various combination of meds they can try, even if they withhold the most effective, Ondansetron at this stage. I'll add you to the due dates list.
user1477 That is awful to have that worry over the bleeding/spotting. What do they say? I do remember you had a scan early on. Will they do another just for reassurance all is well?

LightTripper Glad you are feeling better after the Oyster Drama. Great advice from you and MotherofPearl as ever, and blondes.
Waves to lovely SleepymrsE
fourcorneredcircle This doesn't sound good at all. Remind me what meds you are on?
Waves to Blondes - sorry about beditme vomit - and everyone.

RobberBride · 06/12/2016 16:41

Hi everyone, sorry for slow reply.

Captain I've had that experience too. The ladies in my pg pilates class looked on in horror as I recounted my first trimester. I pointed out that there were people with actual HG, not just my weak imitation of it, who had it a lot worse. They looked like they didn't want to know!

Moon my midwives have been fairly useless so far, so while you do def need to see one to get registered, I don't think it is critical as long as you have a good GP surgery.

Blondes lovely to hear your happy news.

I think I may finally be able to claim some kind of rosette (admittedly one that no one wants to claim). Saturday's headache/nausea turned into Sunday night's migraine/vomiting, and then at 3am a delightful episode of simultaneous vomiting and diarrhoea. Monday I slept all day until DH came home from work to bath me and wash my hair (as I was disgusting) and take me to the GP. I then threw up in the GP's office, fortunately in a handy bowl I had carried with me. However I did retain bladder control! Now on penicillin for a suspected sinus infection/stomach infection. I'm almost 16w. Blahhhh.

Wave to everyone else. Has anyone seen LH?

fourcorneredcircle · 06/12/2016 16:49

I'm on cyclizine. Stupid situation as for the last week I was only sick once a day, very first thing when I stood up.

But today and yesterday I was sick first thing, then had meds as usual, then was sick again less than an hour after, Obviously making me a bit 🤔 About taking more meds.

Yesterday I chucked up a third time after another hour. Managed a meal out in the evening though feeling pretty great with no food revisits.

Only two voms today, the second was pretty violent and left me with a nosebleed and a raging headache... felt better after a nap and been fine this avro tho.

Maybe I'll level out again tomorrow, hope so. Perhaps baby is having a bit of growth spurt, it's all a mystery.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 06/12/2016 16:58

I haven't been sick in well over a week, since I started the new meds (promethazine), but I'm now extremely drowsy and struggle to keep my eyes open. Can't decide which is preferable. Also got bloody brain zaps which aren't fun at all.

LucindaE · 06/12/2016 17:10

Robberbride That sounds awful. Poor you! At least they knew you weren't exaggerating in the dr's office.
fourcorneredcircle When people mention headaches, Mother Hen gets anxious about dehydration headaches. There are various combinations of meds they can give you, so don't suffer for too long.
peacelove Sorry to hear of wooziness and 'brain zaps' (not sure what they are, but they sound nasty. if they're alarming it might be worth asking for something else?).
Here's a new due dates list. Poor CaptainWarbeck is now at the bottom.

Thanks Lucinda and Robber.

My due date is 10th May

peaceloveandbiscuits · 06/12/2016 17:27

Brain zaps are a hit like being electrocuted in the head, and sometimes if you move your head suddenly it seems like the world shifts without you. It's horrid.

LightTripper · 06/12/2016 17:40

Hello all and welcome new people! Sorry to hear about the suffering (especially GPs etc being rubbish).

I'm away for a night so missing DD, though she's got a nasty cough so the last 3 nights have been quite interrupted, am going to make the most of the opportunity to have an uninterrupted sleep and maybe even a bath!

Can't believe how hight up the due dates list I am: I remember being way down towards the bottom! Sorry for those at the bottom now, but one day it will be your turn at the top, hang on to that thought!!

fourcorneredcircle · 06/12/2016 17:56

Oh oh oh! I get to move up the list!!! My EDD is now the 7th of June!!! (Sorry peace...)

Lucinda thanks for your concern re headache 😊 It's the first I've had in weeks and weeks and weeks. I genuinely think it was my brain wanting a rest and reset after the violent vomit, was fine after a good nap :)

I don't think the cyclizine isn't working as I had a good week last week, I think it's something else. Either the monkey growing or I have a slight cold, perhaps the sinus blocking and snot isn't helping :)

peaceloveandbiscuits · 06/12/2016 18:02

Gutted four they changed my due date to 3rd June at my second scan last week WinkGrin

fourcorneredcircle · 06/12/2016 18:32

Damnit peace!!! Xmas Grin

MotherofPearl · 06/12/2016 18:51

Double win Peace, 3 June is my birthday! Grin
Good grief Robber, that sounds horrendous. Hope you start to see some real improvement as you approach 20 weeks. No, we've not seen LH round these parts of late. Hope she's coping.
Four, glad you're being flexible and realistic about returning to work. The last thing you want to do is set yourself back, especially when you're still very up and down with the sickness.
Light, enjoy your night of rest! Hurrah for moving up the list!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 06/12/2016 19:14

DS came ten days earlier than his EDD so I'm actually pencilling in sometime in May Wink

RobberBride · 06/12/2016 19:26

Four steam, steam and more steam to clear your sinuses, plus a saline spray like Sterimar from Boots. I've been rebellious and occasionally used some Vicks Vaporub in the steam bucket as it makes such a difference. Do NOT do what I did and give up because you think it isn't working - it is a million times worse when it all compacts. My head feels like it is going to explode, and it makes the nausea so much worse.

Lucinda and Mother your replies are always so soothing and caring, thank you!

Moon, Peace and anyone else leapfrogging me, you're off my Xmas card list. I'm still in the flipping second half of the list cries.

LucindaE · 06/12/2016 19:58

RobberBride and fourcorneredcirlce Thank you! peacelove That sounds horrible; much sympathy. Goodness, forgive me for saying that it will be a waddling race between peacelove and fourcornered circle to be first across the drawbridge of the fabled Pink Castle. I haven't heard anything from LRReturns for a while. I hope this is a good sign.
