Spotting, cramping, "is my clearblue digi accurate?",* viability scans, measuring behind, measuring ahead, high hcg, low hcg, morning sickness, lack of morning sickness, anomaly scans....

That's right, folks, it's the place where scanxiety really means something, where the feeling like you're always going to be on the wrong side of statistics nevers go away, and where moments of sheer terror are par for the course ...it's pregnancy after infertility.

Join if you want to hang out with a supportive group of women across all different stages of pregnancy who can't believe they got here and are hoping like hell its all going to be ok.

Great news that you're getting the stitch Blueroses!

Sara237 · 12/01/2017 17:16

Blueroses - thank goodness for that! Sense prevails! Sorry to hear about the midwife though what a cow.
Mrs C - that sounds awful for you god how scary - thinking of you and really hoping all is OK.
I know this is ignorant of me but what is this cervix measuring about? Will to and research it - I know zilch about pregnancy.
AFM - bit down as my symptoms have gone...don't feel sick, not that tired. 9 weeks today so confused. See midwife 1st time Monday though.

Blueroses99 · 12/01/2017 18:25

Sara cervical issues are rare, like 1% of pregnancies. Of the 1%, the majority are picked up through risk factors such as previous surgery, multiples or unusual shaped uterus. I'm in the minority of the 1% in that I had no risk factors.

The cervix is the neck of the uterus connecting it with the vagina. Usually 4-5cm. But it shortens during pregnancy due to baby weight pressing on it, this is to be expected but if it shortens too much, there's a risk that the cervix opens as it can't hold the baby anymore. In my case the membrane ruptured when the cervix opened, my waters broke and I went into labour. Fine if it happens at 37 weeks or later, not so good at 21 weeks Sad

Measuring the cervix to make sure it doesn't get too short is normal if there are risk factors but otherwise isn't done routinely. Stitches mean sewing the baby in so there's no early escape! My auntie and friends mum had them in 1970s so been around a while. 90%+ success rates these days. Hopefully it won't be an issue for anyone else but knowledge is power!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/01/2017 19:26

Fab news blue. You must be chuffed 🌟🌟🌟

Custardandcream · 12/01/2017 19:30

Blueroses so glad you're getting the stitch, hopefully the midwife will be a bit nicer now the consultant has offered treatment (my gran had a sucessful stitch in the 50s so they really have been around a while)

Sara I also feel clueless! One thing I have learnt is that it's normal for symptoms to come and go and do often lessen towards the end of the first trimester. I'm 11 weeks now and have noticed over the last week I feel much more like my normal self, no real sickness and I have more energy but I had a wriggler on my scan on Tuesday

Chocolateandwineplease27 · 12/01/2017 20:20

Fab news on the stitch blueroses must be a big relief!!

sara I also panic when my symptoms change but think it's very normal so don't think you can read anything into it. 9 weeks is also the time the placenta kicks in and baby goes from embryo to fetus so think that may cause some drop off

MPP81 · 13/01/2017 10:23

Hello all! I am a little bit behind but will try and catch up now!

Blueroses what fantastic news about your stitch. That must be such a relief for you. Hopefully the other consultant and midwife will be just as supportive for you.

Sara I also found that my symptoms came and went quite frequently in the earlier weeks. It used to stress me out, but it seems to be fairly common so (silly thing to say but) try not to worry too much.

Custard I would also consider having it checked at 16w privately. I think if all it does is set your mind at rest then its 100% worth it.

Trixie I missed the doppler conversation. I think its pobably a good idea not to get one. I was given one when I was about 12 weeks by a close friend and I made a deal with DH that I would only use it if he was there (he's the sensible one) and I would try not to get freaked out if we didnt hear anything. The first few times we used it, we didnt find anything and luckily I managed to not stress about it. No idea how, I just think maybe I was prepared not to find it. Anyway, from about 16 weeks we started finding it occassionally, and from 19 weeks it was obvious very quickly but we've stopped using it now as I can feel baby moving alot and I dont want to fall into the trap of using it as a diagnostic device if baby's movements slow, sowe got rid of it. I think they can be nice, but its probably better to not have one and if we hadn't been given one I doubt very much I would have bought one. Hope you're doing well!

Chocolate I am so sorry to hear the consultant was a cow about measuring your cervix! How awful. Glad you're being monitored now though!

So sorry to hear about your bleed MrsCrabtree but glad to hear everything looked ok. I hope you are feeling alright xx

Massive congratulations Hellotrees!!

Glad the GTT test went ok, Blondes. I'm dreading mine in a few weeks. Hanging around a hospital, hungry and with only a supidly sugary drink for sustenance does not sound like a fun morning to me!

Sammy I hope everything is going well with you. I see they have brought your delivery date forward. I bet it must be scary to think of them coming early but I'm sure the doctors will only do what is neccessary to keep them safe. I hope you are ok!

Lucie fab news about the nursery furniture! Its so exciting! We ordered our pushchair last weekend, though it wont be here til mid-march. I've also bought a perfect prep machine and a Tommee Tippee starter set thingy that includes a steriliser, bottles, etc but only because they were really cheap in the sales.

Friends I hope you and babyfriends are doing ok xx

AFM, no real news. 26 weeks tomorrow and I have a midwife appointment next week. I'm currently waiting for DH to get home from his work trip to France (I decided not to go with him after all) so we can work out what days he's free to book our 4d scan, which I'm both excited and nervous about. I've chosen a babybond clinc as it says they do a growth check and wellbeing check as well, whereas some of the other clinics around me are just for entertainment purposes and will apparently not tell you if they spot anything wrong. I think I'd rather know that someone who knows exactly what they're doing is doing the scan, but as I said, its also making me more nervous than I expected.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Sorry to anyone I may have missed!

Sara237 · 13/01/2017 16:41

Mpp81- thanks for the reassurance; it's just so disconcerting having zero symptoms for days. The 4d scans sound amazing! I agree it's best to have expert doing it! How exciting! Hope its wonderful for you and Mr MPP!

Mrscrabtree · 13/01/2017 17:10

Hello everyone, sorry to post and go but struggling to scroll back on my phone and just wanted to let you know I had another scan today and everything looks ok with the baby so far after my bleed/cramps. It feels like a miracle! I hope you are all ready for a restful Friday evening and that everyone is ok Flowers xx

Custardandcream · 13/01/2017 17:29

Mrscrabtree that's fantastic news!

MPP can totally understand why that level of scan would make you nervous but fingers crossed it will be a lovely experience for you

AFM I've booked a private scan at 16 weeks with a babybond clinic as they offer a specific cervical length scan

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2017 18:28

Mpp. I've got the same next sat. 4d scan. Had one at 16w and bubs looked like an Alien to me 😉 Be interesting what she looks like at 30w

MrsC. Fab news. Hope that reassures you

Custard. Glad you have found somewhere who will also do cervix

Grumpelstiltskin · 13/01/2017 18:37

Hi all.
So pleased to hear you got the stitch, blueroses. What a faff-about for you between consultants though.
I think it's wonderful that you've brought so much awareness to the thread about cervix issues over the last few months and have empowered others to get checked out. Flowers

Also good to hear that the GTT went well, blondes!

Huge congrats Hellotrees on the birth of your DD- lovely news!

Sammy thinking of you and twinnies and hope all is ok. Exciting and scary that you may get to meet them sooner than you thought.

Rose you out there? Really hope all is going well for you.

Hope all of you guys at the early stages are doing ok. It's an absolute headfuck constantly wondering what may be about to go wrong or worrying about symptoms. Thinking of those who are having bleeding or cervix issues especially (sorry, on phone on the train so scrolling back and name checking skillz are poor) But cheering you all on!

I'd recommend a wellbeing scan after 20w for sure MPP- we had one at 31w and although the baby was a sod and hid behind its hands and feet,** it was really reassuring to have all measurements retaken and plotted on the centiles, and cord and placenta blood flow checked. Just a shame really we didn't get a decent pic too!

35w now and only a week left to work. It feels absolutely unbelievable. In slight denial I think that this is seemingly happening...

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 15/01/2017 11:06

Hello everyone, sorry for the silence but have been on holiday for the last month. I had a lovely time but I am exhausted now and very happy to be home!

Congratulations on the new babies - it really does give hope that we can all get there in the end!

Sorry not to do individual comments but I'm glad there's been happy news with scans and appointments going well. Also, Friends, I'm thrilled that your baby is still staying safe - keep on growing and stay put. Welcome to any new joiners, I hope the time speeds by for you.

No news from me as the baby seems to have been playing ball for the last few weeks but I have my next appointment tomorrow so am feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness.

Blueroses99 · 15/01/2017 11:14

Honestly I feel like I'm on a crusade Grumpel, DH as well. When we saw how quick and easy it is to measure the cervix, we were shocked that it isn't routine. Why not do it for everyone, it's got to be worth it if it saves just one baby. We feel that our boy should be here. It was six months yesterday, and we went to scatter his ashes in the baby garden in the local cemetery, we finally felt ready.

Sorry for lack of personals today, not feeling up to it xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/01/2017 11:26

It literally takes a minute or two blue. So yes should be routine imho

💐💐💐💐💐 for yesterday

Gengis. Glad all ok and same with rumple. Sorry can't name check either as on phone and I have no memory at all - baby brain does exist

stealthbanana · 15/01/2017 12:22

blueroses Flowers. Thinking of you today.

grumpel can't believe you're almost there! So excited for you. Was also wondering if rose was ok - and vixx too.

to everyone else - just a quick hello as I sit here being milked like a dairy cow with my double electric breast pump. All is very well with DS, he is changing and growing so fast already. He's smiling and gurgling now which just makes it that much more beautiful ❤️️ You will all get there!

Blueroses thinking of you Flowers

Blueroses99 · 16/01/2017 22:19

Thanks for all the support ladies, you're the best.

How's everyone doing on this 'Blue Monday'?

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2017 22:25

Stealth. Glad bf and pumping going well :)

Blue. All good here. Saw mw for 28w chat. Was asked about my birth plan. I said do t have one TBH. Just want bubs delivered safely so will listen to what doctors advise

Lovely to hear heart again :)

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 16/01/2017 22:41

I'm of the same thinking Blondes though I'd also like the least intervention as possible!

We had a scan yesterday, and all is looking well, though I did laugh when my Doctor told me I have a pregnancy face i.e. round - thanks buddy!

Vixxfacee · 17/01/2017 11:15

Hi everyone, haven't been on the thread in a long time.

Just catching up. Congratulations on stealthinI stealth! So so pleased for you Smile

My son came 3 weeks early on 5th January weighing 6lb8. I had a 2 hour labour. It felt like a blur. He is nearly 2 weeks old now and motherhood is everything I hoped it would be after infertility, miscarriage and ivf.

Good luck grumpel, not long for you now! Hope you have your hospital bag packed, I had to scramble around for mine before going to the hospital.

Waves* at everyone else .

Grumpelstiltskin · 17/01/2017 12:16

Arghhhhhgh vixx!!! So so thrilled to hear that you've had your boy! Congratulations on your lovely DS and pleased to hear motherhood is going well. A two hour labour though! Can't decide if that's awesome or a bit terrifying.
Hospital bag mainly done even though 4weeks to go, got the fear a bit over Xmas that I'd prepared or bought literally nothing and that seemed a good place to start.

Blueroses totally agree with you about cervical checks. I hope that the ceremony went well and was everything you wanted it to be. Thinking of little Jovan and hope you and dh are doing ok. Flowers

Custardandcream · 17/01/2017 12:18

Congratulations Vixxfacee

I will be 12 weeks tomorrow (based on the date of ec, as was measuring 4 days ahead last week there is now some confusion over my due date, midwife has said she will let a Dr decide!) I'm meant to be cutting down on my progesterone from tomorrow currently on 2 a day, will be going down to 1 a day for a week then stopping. I'm feeling a bit anxious about it especially with the continuing on and off slight bleeding but the midwife thinks it should be ok.

We've also agreed to tell DH's parents tomorrow, they have no idea we were trying let alone have had IVF so that might be an interesting conversation!
