We've got through a whole thread! Hope it's ok that I took the liberty of starting a new one.

Newbies, if you've had fertility treatment and found that it actually worked, this is the thread for you! We're a supportive group of women battling everything from scanxiety to unexplained bleeding, and we generally can't believe this is really happening for us!

First thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2584015-Pregnancy-after-infertility

Sorry, meant congrats to friends on the positive scan news* at the weekend, not freckles!*

lucieloos · 10/10/2016 12:49

Wow it's a long time to go after 20 weeks with no more scans isn't it. I think i would have to book another one or two lol. Just really hope this one on Wednesday goes ok now so I can maybe relax a little for a couple of weeks.

Grumpelstiltskin · 10/10/2016 13:01

Fx for you, lucie. It's a real milestone post-treatment.

I know re lack of scans after 20 wks! Boo. I'm contemplating a 32wk scan to check on placenta etc and to potentially pick up any issues that may lead to higher risk of stillbirth, as one of the risks for an IVF pregnancy can be crappier blood flow to baby apparently- hence me being on aspirin. Anyone further on doing this?

HelloMist · 10/10/2016 15:00

hi all :) I'd like to join if it's OK. I joined an antenatal club before I noticed this thread. Not sure yet where I'll post most, might be hard to keep up with both! But it is good to find somewhere where people understand the added anxiety and difficult journey to get here!

I'm 4+4 after FET, so very early days. I have one DD from our first round of IVF.

Lucie: last time (couple of years ago) I was also offered 32 and 36 (?) week NHS scans because of being higher risk (IVF). Nothing extra earlier. I don't know yet if I'll get those again and it probably depends on where you live.

loopylou1984 · 10/10/2016 17:21

Lucie - my 18 week scan is only 2 weeks away so not long to wait

Welcome hellomist :)

Grumpel I'm on aspirin due to high risk for pre eclampsia (twins + 1st pregnancy), I struggle with it though as it's the dissolvable stuff so I can't say I've taken it every day.

Here's a sneaky pic of anyone is interested.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2016 17:32

Just seen mw for 16w check

Heard bubs 💓💓💓 with a Doppler . still a relief but wow every time I hear heart - nice to know all ok

Ketones are 2. Need to eat and drink more - tho iron is good as is bp and weight as losing - tho obv not a good reason I'm losing by being sick lol

Have 16w scan Wednesday private as for me it's too long to wait till 20. Lady on phone said she couldn't guarantee the sex and not to take what they say for sure

I said I didn't want the sex at this scan. Just wanted to see abs hear bubs and she seemed quite taken back as said normally people moan for 16w as want to know the sex and they don't like saying till 20w

I said just want to see bubs and she was awwww bless you - big brother of 28 is coming as he wants to share our experience. TBH he has really surprised me how supportive and how much he wants this baby - be half sibling as df his dad and I'm the wicked step mummy 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2016 17:55

Genghis fab news on a boy. Glad all went well

What is nipt - blondes goes to Google

sammy fab pic. Well impressive 😍 how come you have an 18w scan? Coz of twins?

My clinic refuse to say 100% what sex at 16w. They say it looks like .... but won't commit till 20w

TBH I happy to wait to 20w and as said on previous post I just want to see bubs on Wednesday

lucie the queasiness is almost worse then the sickness or retching - hope improves

grump I will be having extra scans as get further along

Already have 20w scan and clinic booked in

Plus 28w - 32w and 36w all booked in taking me to 6march

Bubs is due 30/3 tho likely to be induced week early and don't want me past 40w due to ivf

was told I would then have at 37/38/39w scan but haven't got those booked in yet - basically every week in March I will be at hospital

Really not sure why/how an ivf preg can cause higher risk of stillbirth as in how does body know the diff? Drugs we use ?

hello welcome. 4/4 I rem that time as my preg is a fet and literally pee on stick 2w later - inform clinic and suddenly 4w preg

When is your scan?6/7w?

stealthbanana · 11/10/2016 10:09

sammy great pics! The twin on the lower half is lying so neatly!

lucie fx for tomorrow. Really hope it goes well for you. I've been scanned every 4 weeks which is nice.

grump personally I would have a private scan at around the 30/32w mark if NHS doesn't offer one, just for peace of mind. 20 weeks is a long time to go without seeing baby.

Just come from scan & consultant appointment. All well. Baby is a GIANT - I'm 28+3 today and he's measuring 30+5😱. Apparently all healthy but I am getting a bit worried about birth! Passed all my blood tests & diabetes test too so that's a relief. And the doctor said if my rib pain keeps getting worse I can have a local injection to ease the pain so that's good to know.

So feeling good about it all - although v much feeling like the end is in sight, which is good but terrifying!

Borisisback · 11/10/2016 12:11

I'm now 34 weeks - I haven't had a scan since 19 weeks it feels like forever! no further scans on the horizon :( if we had the money Id be booking private scans - the trouble is scans get addictive.... If I start going for scans I'll not stop!

Grumpelstiltskin · 11/10/2016 14:09

Thanks guys. Will be booking a scan for sure. Heard the heartbeat again today and the midwife got a kicking but it doesn't replace seeing it! Plus my 20wk scan photos are terrible- it looks like a blurry Darth Vader. Confused
Sammy your pics are fantastic, what well behaved children lying so tidily!

Stealth just goes to show that HG has no adverse affect on a baby I guess! What a big boy. Exciting for you (and boris, even more so) that it's really starting to get close now.
Hope you're feeling ok.

icy121 · 11/10/2016 17:09

Hello all. Longtime barren & swearer here. Had an FET on 14th sept and am apparently "pregnant". Have felt like a massive fraud so far, but started feeling sick today so maybe the tests are true?!

When I called the clinic on OTD the nurse said "are you happy?" Because I obviously sounded so nonplussed 😐

I can't feel happy because I can imagine how fucking horrific I'll feel it it all goes to shit. Anyway, 6+4 today and have a scan on Friday. Supposed to be today but I had to move it around to avoid having to ask boss for time off... and then he fuckinf worked from home today bc of Southern strike. Standard!

Recognise a few names of past mind-numbers, time to try to catch up on this thread (although on the basis it's looking nearly ready for a new thread I might not read it all...!!)

Does glitter shit still count when you're "pregnant" (or, for those who are more accepting, pregnant)?! I've still got buckets of the stuff.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2016 17:12

boris you have willpower, no way i could wait 19/32 with nothing inbetween

im scanning once a month roughly so

12w nhs
16w private
20w nhs
24w private
28w nhs
32w nhs
26w nhs

private scans are costly but gives me peace of mind, 4w is bad enough inbewteen

stealthbanana · 11/10/2016 17:36

icy welcome, and congratulations. Glitter shit is definitely allowed on this thread. No one arrives here with a flourish; there's lots of sidling onto the thread and muttering unobtrusively about how we be pregnant but it'll probably be a disaster and it just seems so unlikely. Good luck for your scan on Friday. Be warned you'll likely be a nervous wreck beforehand. Brace brace.

grumpel lol at a blurry darth vader. Get them to point the Doppler at the umbilical vein - it sounds exactly like darth breathing. (Not "wind in the trees" as my hippy sonographer suggested!) Comedy gold. And, yes, if early indications hold, stealthini is going to be a greedy little so and so. No one can figure out how I'm spawning this enormobaby without showing. It's clearly HG plus the little one hoovering up all my food. Pig!

Grumpelstiltskin · 11/10/2016 18:02

Hey icy! Pleased (cautiously, as is the way) to hear your news. Still lurk in mindnumbers occasionally as you may 'graduate' but the mindset never leaves you. As stealth says, here we mainly just segue into panicking about scans. Hope it's good news for you on Friday.

lotsoffreckles · 11/10/2016 19:15

Welcome Icy and congrats, good luck for Friday.

I had my 16 week MW check today, all ok and heard bubs heartbeat, never gets old Smile

LOL at Darth V scan pics, at my 12 week scan during the 3D bit it looked like bub is sticking its middle finger up at us Blush

loopylou1984 · 11/10/2016 20:08

Icy!!! Congrats! Come and hang around cautiously with us :)
Everything is crossed for your scan on Friday

I think the scan pics are so clear because she set the machine for third trimester... we're queried why it said third trimester on the screen and she said 'that's just my setting, I prefer it' - when she flicked it back to 2nd trimester it was fuzzy. Worth asking if they'll flip the setting!

Blondes - yes as they're identical and sharing a placenta we have scans every 2 weeks from now on! Lol. Combined with midwife and consultant I may as well set up camp at the hospital!

Stealth - eek to the big baby... I'm sure it will slow down and even out... right??

Boris - wow you have restraint! Worth saving the money if you can cope though.

Lotsof - glad you got to hear the heart beat :). We nearly bought a Doppler at a nearly new sale but I chickened out in case we couldn't find the heart beat as I knew I'd panic!

lotsoffreckles · 11/10/2016 20:51

Sammy DH has banned me from buying one, said we don't need the extra stress in our lives, ha!

Blue2014 · 11/10/2016 21:34

Icy!! Yes! Hello Hag Smile I've been stalking you on mindnumbers and hoped you'd pop up here.

Sorry but I still can't do happy and I'm now 32 weeks which has accidentally outed me with a bunch of other real life barrens (they seem to just sense it in my response) if only I'd known all this time that half my work team are also barrens - we've only just managed to put ourselves to each other as 3 of us have got diffed in a row.

Sammy - I asked mumsnet about their views on dopplers and even the instadiffers said no so I've avoided them based on that (did see one for £12 at the weekend though)

Blue2014 · 11/10/2016 21:39

Sammy - you scan pic is adorable FlowersSmile

Stealth - mine is also measuring big but a friend tells me that hers measured weeks ahead the whole time and then actually only weighed 6.5 pounds so maybe not so huge Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2016 21:56

We ordered a Doppler yesterday - df really wanted one. Men eh

Told him we read instructions to use it properly

Took mw a few attempts to find bubs. Little monkey kept moving

So know it's not that easy to find Be

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/10/2016 22:01

Lost my message. Mn went funny

Know it's hard to find heartbeat if not medically trained

But will try and hopefully will be able to work it ok

Borisisback · 12/10/2016 09:44

I bought a Doppler and had to stop using it - I kept not being able to find baby and it got upsetting unnecessarily :( I think because I have an anterior placenta it's harder to find him?

Blue2014 · 12/10/2016 10:11

The other thing I read was not to use a Doppler for reassurance as it's possible to hear a heart beat but for there still to be problems. This is more relevant as movements start I think but they say if your movement pattern changes significantly access help, even if you find a Doppler heartbeat

friends123 · 12/10/2016 12:59

Lucie - I hope everything goes well today.

Genghis - huge congratulations on the boy news.

Grump - are you on aspirin for low blood pressure? It sounds like a good reason to have an extra scan to me. It's such a long time in between ,I'm glad you got to hear baby's heartbeat.

Sammy - wow your scan is amazing!

I've been spotting on and off again. I had my first midwife appointment today but she didn't seem worried. I've got low blood pressure now too. Nothing is ever straightforward hey.

Hope everyone else is okay?

lucieloos · 12/10/2016 15:46

Friends, sorry to hear you are Spottong. It is very common but I know what a stress it can be. Hope you're ok.

Ive had my scan! Omg I was so nervous I started crying before they had even started they must have thought I was mad!! We saw the tiny heart flickering away and it is measuring anywhere from 2-4 days ahead!! She had to do it a couple of times and said ohh its big but I don't think that's a problem better than being too small I guess. I think we settled on about 8+1 whereas in 7+5 at the moment. She only brought my due date forward by one day tho. Think it will be more accurate at the 12 week scan. She said the heartbeat looked like it was going at a decent speed and checked ovaries and everything else which all look fine! So so glad that's done with. I've got 2.5 weeks to relax now before the next scan and harmony test which I know will be a major stress!
