I started on cyclizine Blondes, which I think is what most people try first. It did give me some relief (made me woozy for a couple of days as it is a slight sedative but that passed pretty quickly, and once it got established I at least felt better between throwing up). The sickness then ramped up again and I wasn't coping very well so I now also take metoclopramide. Those are both very common ones and have been prescribed for years so there are quite good studies to give comfort that there aren't any bad side effects for the baby. My sickness is upside down from yours: I'm OK in the morning, just nauseous, but by about 3pm I'm useless and have to go home.

There are a couple of really good documents online about drugs that are worth reading before you got to the GP - I'll quickly look them up and post here. My GPs have all been great (even locums) and in fact I originally got cyclizine from a sonographer (consultant nurse) at my early reassurance scan, but I know some are funny about prescribing anything in the first trimester, so it's worth going in with the official advice behind you.

Glad they are looking after you Womble, must be a worry but at least you know you have got somebody really proactive on your side, so you are not having to fight to be taken seriously xx

The most up to date thing is the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guide, but it's quite techy so I would read it last:
www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/guidelines/gtg69/

Then the official NICE guidelines:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

And finally a more user-friendly guide from the Pregnancy Sickness Support Guidelines (which is really good and has a forum - there is also an HG thread on here which I am on despite not really being bad enough to qualify as HG, but the ladies there are all very welcoming):
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/documents/page_pdfs/PL14_Treatments_Information.pdf

Good luck!

teabagsmummy · 19/08/2016 12:33

Hi everyone , I went to hospital to see the consultant for the 1st time she asked if I would like to be induced at 39 weeks which I agreed too if I go that long my ds was born at 37 weeks.
I ended up being admitted to hospital due to my routine urine being full off keytones . Wasn't expecting that haven't been feeling great but then again you maybe just get used to feeling rotton

Rugby01 · 19/08/2016 20:48

Hi teabags - oh sorry that you ended up in hospital. Are you still there? I hope you're ok. What are they concerned about?

A small question - does anyone know if it's ok to miss the small one day's dose of aspirin that they put you on to prevent high blood pressure?

LightTripper · 20/08/2016 07:33

Hope you are OK teabags, any news?

Blondes I don't think I have HG but severe NVP can easily tip over (last pg with similar sickness but no drugs I lost nearly a stone, which probably does count as HG as it's nearly 10pc of my weight, though I didn't realise it at the time), so even if you don't have HG it's worth looking into treatments to make sure you don't end up there! This time I haven't lost weight due to the pills, otherwise I suspect the same may have happened again.

I guess I am saying, don't feel you have to be sure it is HG before you go for help!! Hopefully if you get help you can avoid ever knowing if it is "officially" HG or not.

The Pregnancy Sickness Support website is good to browse more generally if you want to know more xx

teabagsmummy · 20/08/2016 08:09

Hi it's hg I've been diagnosed with lost 3 stone and been in hospital 3 times on a drip.
Rugby they were worried about dehydration I got out last night after 6 bags of fluids and 3 anti sickness injections feeling a lot better now

Rugby01 · 20/08/2016 08:36

teabags - glad you are home. What a horrible thing to happen. I really hope it gets under control and you don't end up there again. Hope work are sympathetic to you.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/08/2016 09:39

Sounds awful teabags :(

teabagsmummy · 20/08/2016 10:46

I think it was the best thing getting admitted as I feel a lot brighter long may it last! Getting a sick line I think I work nights and it's making me worse

Rugby01 · 20/08/2016 13:58

Oh yes I can't imagine working nights and being pregnant. So good that you're feeling better. How is everyone else coping at work esp in third trimester? I'm a teacher and dreading going back in sept when I'll be 27 weeks. Can't even reach down to do my shoes up anymore!!

LightTripper · 20/08/2016 16:01

Oh teabags that sounds horrible. How many weeks are you now? Glad you are feeling better.

teabagsmummy · 20/08/2016 18:17

I'm only 15, weeks so a while to go yet

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/08/2016 20:49

Nights are much easier as I can sleep daytime :)

LightTripper · 23/08/2016 11:17

Have they given you some pills to take home teabags? I am not managing to do full days at the moment, so I agree a sick note may really help. My sickness started to get a lot better at around 17 weeks last time, and I stopped throwing up at 20 weeks, so hopefully you might be the same and then you wouldn't have too much longer to go? My sister was also much sicker than me (throwing up 5-6 times a day) and she didn't even feel nauseous after 20 weeks, so even when it is very bad it can get much better in the second half - hope that's true for you too!

teabagsmummy · 23/08/2016 12:27

The dr signed me of for a month so just taking it easy. I've not been sick since Thursday although feel sick still. I was given to anti sickness tablets ice to take them every 4 hours so fingers crossed they help

LightTripper · 23/08/2016 13:58

Good luck teabag - everything crossed xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2016 16:15

Updated on a other thread but thought would here as well

Saw my gp. Very sympathetic and said I did have hg

Put me on cyclizine and have to say 2 days in I feel a lot better. Still very queasy and nauseous but wasn't very sick and retching this morning which is a first in 5w

See midwife tomorrow - 9w today

What kind of things does the midwife ask?

LightTripper · 26/08/2016 09:49

Lots of questions about your health, any previous pregnancies, fertility treatment, your OH's health, any family history of various health problems, etc. etc. Then she'll take some blood and urine samples, height, weight, etc. She should also ask about what you've been prescribed for HG. It's a bit boring but it's just so they can get all the background information set up! Hope you get a nice m/w - let us know how it goes!

How are you doing teabags - any improvement now you are off work? I hope so xx

MsBear44 · 26/08/2016 15:10

Hi Everyone, hope its OK to join in, I'm new here. 44 and 6 weeks pregnant. Seen GP yesterday and have first hospital appointment 8th September. What do they usually do at this? Thank you :)

Floozie66 · 26/08/2016 15:46

13 weeks pg. Age 44. Was a twin pg now only one but looked ok on scan yesterday

Bluebird126 · 26/08/2016 17:31

Hi everyone
Haven't posted for a while, just checking in. 30 + 5 here and 45yrs. Struggling a bit with the heat! I'm seeing the Consultant mw on Monday to discuss induction that they want to do early because of my age but not too happy about the idea Hmm.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/08/2016 21:30

mrsbear welcome - do you mean midwife app?

floozie sorry you've lost a twin. That's tough

bluebird think that's normal for 'older mums'

Saw midwife today at 9w. She was lovely but also a friend of mine and that's why I chose her as she knows my history - 10yrs ttc. 5 private ivf attempts and finally preg for the first time

Went tho TONS of questions. About medical history - infertility history and general day to day stuff about jobs , where I live - safeguarding
Once baby is born

Appointment took 2hrs

I'm glad their are mums on this thread that are my age. Makes me feel better as know I'm am
Older mum compared to all my friends

Floozie66 · 26/08/2016 21:59

Bluebird - in my hospital trust they offer extra growth scans at 30 and 34 weeks for mums over 40 and would only induce if there was a problem before 40 weeks. I asked about this as some trusts recommend older mums are induced at 38 weeks to reduce chance of stillbirth due to placenta not working as well

Rugby01 · 27/08/2016 05:57

bluebird- my trust also said they'd induce at 40 weeks if over 40 as they are worried placenta might not work so well after 40 weeks. Good that some trusts monitor before doing it, probably. How are you feeling? Good luck and keep us posted.
