Hi Girls

We found out on Good Friday that we're expecting our first child and we won't be telling our parents for a few weeks so for now I thought it was worth starting a thread so I've got a place to get excited about all things baby with people due at a similar time - without chewing DH's ear off about it constantly. Bless him he's excited too but I seem to want to talk about nothing else right now which is hard seeing as we're the only ones that know our little secret!

My EDD is 2nd December according to the NHS website which makes me 4+5, and I've got my first doctors appointment this Friday. I understand they won't really do or say a lot but think they'll refer me to the midwife? Or do I do that myself?? Anyway, I'm excited!!!

Hope everyone's feeling good and upbeat, looking forward to some due date buddies to chat to Smile

youngold - yes mine eased off last week and I sort of didn't notice really - then when I did I worried too! I'm still worried of course! I will keep worrying until the scan at 13+5! I am currently 11+1. So ages to go yet! I suppose it's all ok - i just have to keep thinking it is! My boobs are still big and sore so I'm going with that sign at the moment....

Rugby01 · 13/05/2016 17:13

Currently wishing I could see through my belly with X-ray vision to check if there really is something going on in there.... My only symptoms are bigger boobs and emotional wreck state when tired.... Argh.
Why are these last two week so slow?!

bumbleclat · 13/05/2016 19:52

I'm 8 weeks at the moment and am permanently nauseous. Im feeling really guilty because one of my teaching assistants left this week and I am so nauseous Ive had to not go to her leaving meal tonight and, because none knows I'm pregnant Im worried Im going to seem like a cold-hearted cow! :(
Feeling hopeful that this stage might be over before long.

Rugby01 · 13/05/2016 22:43

bumblechat - I know exactly that feeling. Don't worry- you can explain in 4 weeks and they will understand! I am mentally making a list of apologies to make after half term. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Youngoldmum · 14/05/2016 11:29

Waiting for a scan really sucks! Feel like I need that boost of seeing the little bean to get me through! Xx glad some others are feeling less sick after 9 weeks, must be normal xx

ermmm · 14/05/2016 11:38

Like u rach I have my scan come through for 13th of June. So glad I got a private one done. Only symptom is tiredness and lower back pain- but I've had a bad back for years now so could just be unrelated to the pregnancy.
I actually need a daily nap to keep functioning - down side the nap coincides with dc school home time and DS hates walking home...glad dh was off last two days of school as he let me lie in😍.
Good luck to you all.

Rachwyso · 14/05/2016 14:18

Hi ermmm, yes im tired but im always tired anyways as my ds doesnt sleep particularly well even at age 6!!

I spent last night in hosp after worrying bloody discharge they found i have a UTI and are going to refer me bk to EPU fingers crossed everything is ok im just hoping and praying and willing june the 13th to hurry up and come quickly.

Hope your tiredness subsides soon and all goes well for your scan 😄

berkshiregirl2016 · 15/05/2016 11:45

How are you doing Rach? Hope all is ok. I haven't thrown up in two days now, although nausea is still very much there. I found my EPU a brilliant support, I just wish they could offer reassurance scans to more women, rather than just those in specific situations.

Has anyone else noticed the hardness in their lower belly? I can feel my uterus far down now around mid public bone (not as gross as it sounds!) and stomach is getting firmer, under the belly fat lol. I find it a bit reassuring and am now using a hair band to loop my jeans together.

Hope you're all having a chilled Sunday, I'm off to watch the Spanish GP Smile

Minispringroll · 15/05/2016 13:42

I'm glad I'm not the only one having to use a hairband on the jeans. Grin We've got booking appointment tomorrow and reassurance scan on Wednesday. My nausea seems to have gotten worse this last week, not better. Hmm I'm feeling really tired all the time had to have a nap today,...after having eaten breakfast. (I mean, seriously! How am I meant to get anything done?)
10 weeks today.

Rachwyso · 15/05/2016 22:13

Im doing much better today thank u! Theres been no more bloody discharge since friday so fingers crossed. My mums next door neighbour has been a gynae nurse for 30yrs and she said light bleeding between wks 6 and 8 is really very common and unless its bright red or accompanied with severe pain its almost always nothing to worry about so im definatley feeling a bit more possitive

I too have noticed slight hardening in where i imagine my uterus is (mid pelvis just above pubic bone area)

Hope everyone is doing well xx

sueevone · 16/05/2016 06:01

Hi ladies
Please can I join? I'm 27 and 8 weeks gone today (1st time mum) with an EDD of 26th Dec. Suffering with nausea at the moment but after a MC after our last attempt it's reassuring to have symptoms.
I just got back from 2 weeks in Bali so a bit behind in getting my midwife appointment booked. I'm incredibly excited though Smile.

Youngoldmum · 16/05/2016 07:12

Well after posting that my nausea had subsided had a terrible day yesterday feeling sick from morning until I went to bed. Felt like I could've slept all day too. Back to work today. Yawn. So I guess these symptoms come and go! Booking appointment on Friday but still wishing the days away until the scan

Kajlo · 16/05/2016 10:30

Phew! I have just told my line manager I'm pregnant (had to as she wants me to go to Brazil for work, yikes!) and she took it really well. Better than I had thought, so that's a heavy load off my shoulders! As I have dodged a number of trips to Latin America, she suspected it though. Still keeping it a secret from anyone else. It's is getting so so hard.

9+4 today, and my belly is definitely larger, though not as far down as I would have thought - anyone else having a higher up belly? Perhaps I'm just fat, should keep off macarons.. Halo

berkshiregirl2016 · 16/05/2016 11:20

Youngoldmum, I was exactly the same yesterday. No vomiting Friday or Saturday then bam! Violently ill yesterday! Keep telling myself it's a good thing.

Hi Sueevone, welcome Smile I'm 11+2 today and going to Bali myself in a few weeks! Might have to get some tips from you as I've been worrying about the travelling. DH and I lost three babies last yr, all requiring ERPCs so thought we'd treat ourselves, then we find out I'm expecting again. Had 5 scans so far and all looking well, still anxious though.

Kajlo that's great about your manager, especially relating to South America trips at the moment. My belly is just big right now but I'm sure it's still largely bloating! I know some women carry higher than others though.

sueevone · 16/05/2016 12:08

Oh exciting! It's such a beautiful island, we booked it a year ago and only found out we were expecting a week before we left. My GP wasn't worried about Zika and Malaria and said just to cover myself in mozzie spray and be responsible. As I'm a worrier I also went to the Boots travel clinic who agreed but the Nurse at the Superdrug travel clinic (did I mention I was a worrier? Smile) did her best to get me to cancel the holiday. She told me it was not worth putting my baby at risk of a whole list of diseases. Left feeling really down but put it to the back of my mind.
I found it really hard to find a mozzie spray that was suitable for early pregnancy as most were only suitable for 3 years and older and specifically not suitable for pregnant women. Only a handful could be used by babies 6 months and older so advice on what I can use it what took me to the third travel clinic to get advice on what was suitable in early pregnancy as I hadn't thought to ask my GP. I also took a particular probiotic-the name escapes me which I swear by when heading to South East Asia( I love to travel) which took the edge off Bali belly as I was conscious of what the effects of a bad tummy etc would do to the little on. Also took rehydration tablets each day as a precaution.
Anything I can help with before you go please give me a shout.

Kajlo · 16/05/2016 13:09

berkshiregirl Bali sounds lovely! I wouldn't worry about Zika there (no cases reported in Indonesia), but do get some mozzie cream/spray that's ok for pregnancies to combat Malaria - as suggested by sue, and don't have any water you haven't seen in a sealed bottle first. That includes ice cubes in drinks. Also keep your mouth firmly shut in the shower, and brush your teeth in Evian or another sealed-bottle alternative (has saved me from Delhi belly so far). Oh and if there's a mozzie net, make sure you use it, and be careful to cover your feet in anti-mozzie cream/spray too.

I'd also wear flight socks for such a long flight and make sure you've got lots of water with you on the flight and everywhere else.

44PumpLane · 18/05/2016 16:24

Hi all, back again. So today I'm 8+6 and yesterday I travelled to London on business and promptly had to get admitted to hospital due to symptoms of gall stones (though this mornings scan has shown no gall stones). So I'm on IV antibiotics and hanging out in hospital.

Interestingly the scan also showed it looks like I'm currently carrying twins (!!!) but radiographer warned not to take that to heart too much as its a very early read and anything could happen! Yikes!

berkshiregirl2016 · 18/05/2016 18:49

Thanks for the tips ladies. Nurse asked me to check home office for Zika advice as apparently there is some risk in Indonesia (this is completely new to me). Had another scan this morning and could make out some features like nose and hands. Consultant measured fluid at back of neck unofficially and said it looks fine. They'll do it again on Monday at nuchal.

Pumplane, sorry to hear. Hope you make a swift recovery.

I haven't mastered tagging names in posts so if anyone can tell me how to do it from a mobile that would be awesome!

Hope everyone is keeping sickness at bay. Xx

Minispringroll · 18/05/2016 20:50

Congratulations on the twins, Pumplane. Flowers

Had my appointment for dating scan through (6th June) and went for reassurance scan today. It had measured 6 days behind at the last scan four weeks ago. Today, it was two days ahead. I'm very impressed with little bean. It was waving during the scan. Grin 10+5 now (should be 10+3).

Wanted to go on holiday to Spain during the summer holidays, but DH said there's been a warning out for Zika for most of Europe for that point at time. Confused

Kajlo · 19/05/2016 07:47

berkshire - hmm, I would rather check the PHE and ECDC websites directly for any Zika advice: [https://www.gov.uk/guidance/zika-virus] or [http://ecdc.europa.eu/en/healthtopics/zika_virus_infection/zika-outbreak/Pages/Zika-countries-with-transmission.aspx]
As it happens I work with outbreak response and pandemic preparedness, and Zika has been all over my life since December. There is a risk that Zika may spread to other countreis than where it's been found so far by returning travellers or cross-border trade, but for now there's been absolutely no risks reported for Indonesia. I would happily go both there and to Spain (Minispringroll) until PHE/ECDC/WHO risk assessments tell me otherwise. But thenagain, risks are for each an everyone of us to assess for ourselves too.

Congrats pumplane, I hope you feel better soon! Lovely to see the wee bean Minispringroll you must be delighted :)

NotAClue82 · 19/05/2016 09:52

I don't actually hang out on this thread (am on the one in ante-natal clubs), but I just wanted to wave at 44PumpLane, because I am currently 11+1 with twins, too!!! Found out at 9 weeks and it's been an absolute rollercoaster of emotions since! Mine appear to be identical, though as you say, it's still very early days. How are you feeling?

44PumpLane · 19/05/2016 10:21

Thanks everyone! It's hard to have an opinion on the twins thing at the minute as I'm still in hospital with lots of pain! The radiologist said she couldn't tell if they were identical or not as she wasn't trained in looking at sonograms in that way.

To be honest it's probably a good thing- I'm not really keen on being pregnant (so far sickness and I'm now in hospital with this mystery pain) so if I can get all my pregnancies over in one fell swoop then that's pretty good news really! :)

My husband and I are due to go on a big family holiday next Friday and we weren't intending on telling anyone I was pregnant until the scan, so we're now wondering about booking in for a private scan on the Friday morning so we can tell people!

lisacatjohnson · 19/05/2016 10:51

Hi everyone ! I've just been reading above and had no idea about the Zika threat before hand, so glad I read the thread! I have booked to go to Sorrento, Italy in July for our honeymoon when I will be 18-20 weeks. Can I get your advice about the Zika risk there? Do you think I should cancel? Sorry, totally clueless about this! Thanks Smile

kittyscot81 · 19/05/2016 21:10

Hello, new poster to this thread, due 11th Dec. I just wanted to add to the Zika chat because I am due to go to New York next week and I am terrified its on the cusp of an outbreak! I'm so anxious about it. There are lots of predictions about where it might spread to next and NY is on the list, but the WHO travel advice is still that its safe, and there is no indication of timescale as to when it might spread.Kajlo do you have any insider knowledge on this location and the likelihood of it spreading soon?

Kajlo · 20/05/2016 09:59

lisacat and kittyscot - Greetings and Congrats! I would definitely go to both Italy and NY without a second thought. No cases have been reported so far, but do keep an eye on the ECDC and PHE websites listed above. I would definitely make sure you bring (and use) pregnancy-friendly anti-mozzie stuff though, just in case. There is less of a risk in urban places like NY as you will have less stagnant water pools/tanks/similar where mozzies breed.

Public health notices are much more reliable than the media - which thrives on people's anxieties.

I'm sure you'll both have fab trips. Very jealous!
