I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

ickle glad you managed to eat. Sorry to hear about nose vom!! I too can eat before 3pm then it all goes downhill!!!!

LADIES please think of me this Friday pm as I'm having my first scan. I had the same eight months ago when they found there was a problem so am dreading this appt xx

MotherofPearl · 03/05/2016 16:02

Ickle, poor you, sick through the nose is the worst! The stinging and the smell last for ages. But good job on the brunch.
Sorry you're still in pain Amys. Hope you get that referral.
Fresh, really hope all goes well at Friday's scan. It's understandable that you'll feel very anxious, but I'm sure all will be well.
Well ladies, at long, long last I'm nearly at the end of the HG journey, although I think I've been luckier than many on the thread in getting the voms down to just once or twice a week since about week 34. I'm going in at 9am tomorrow to be induced. I wasn't induced with my other two, so I'm quite apprehensive, but also obviously relieved that the end is really in sight. I wonder if Spandau has had her baby yet? I'll be sure to keep you all updated on my baby news over the next few days. Thinking of you all as always.

RaeSkywalker · 03/05/2016 16:15

Sleepy well done on the pear! I'm forcing one down each day to try and help with constipation.

Madrigal I hope you feel better soon. I agree with Lucinda- nights are always worse than days for me. I start to feel anxious when it gets dark now.

ickle glad to hear about the brunch, but not the sickness. I hope the ketones are improving.

Fresh I will be thinking of you. It must be a really anxious wait- hopefully all will be well.

Mother good luck for tomorrow! Looking forward to more happy news.

I'm feeling ok today- but the weekend was awful. I think it started with DH cooking himself a bacon sarnie on Saturday without warning me (pork smells make me heave), and went downhill from there. Last night I felt as bad as I did before I was medicated and was really scared. Luckily it's settled today.

I've just called my GP surgery to tell them about the pharmacist. The receptionist assured me that they would give him short shrift if he did call Grin

LidikaLikes · 03/05/2016 16:19

Hi ladies, just dropping in to send you all best wishes for relief from the horror of HG. I had it during my 2nd pregnancy and it was terrible. In fact, I posted for, and got lots of support on MN during that time.

DH and I are tempted to TTC DC3, but I am in fear of having HG again. With DC1 I was sick 5 times during the whole 9 months, with DC2 I was sick multiple times per day and ended up hospitalised for a while. If it matters, DC1 was a boy, DC2 was a girl.

I am so scared of having HG during another pregnancy, plus having to deal with two children who need and deserve my attention.

Advice and support please, would be great.

Freshbreadandfaith · 03/05/2016 16:19

All the very best mother of pearl!!!!
rae I hate the smell of cooking!!!

Freshbreadandfaith · 03/05/2016 16:22

Welcome lidika I had a friend who had hg in two pregnancies and needed meds so when she found out she was pregnant with third she started meds straight away and said that helped
I started meds from 5 weeks this time which has definitely helped although nausea still there and some vomiting but not as bad as without. Think 'meds straight away and some kind of childcare to fall back on if poss and if poss a very supportive and prepared partner!' would be my best advice!

LucindaE · 03/05/2016 18:47

Likdkalikes Welcome. I can only echo Freshbread's advice not as if I went for it a second time myself, but I regret not having two but from all I've seen on this thread,- pre emptive meds are a great idea, and having a contingency plan worked out abut childcare and a family friends support network. I hope you escape it.
MotherofPearl Induced tomorrow - my goodness, that caught me unawares,I had mixed the date up. Best of luck. You've been wonderfully supportive on this thread, both when TTC and when suffering. And of course, the time before! So glad your happy time is nearly here!
Freshbread The best of luck for the scan. The statistics are all in your favour.
amysmummy I do hope a physio can do something. Paying for an Osteopath or Chiropractor is ruinous, i know. I managed to scrape together enough for one treatment, having shelled out on Acupunture.
Rae and others - pears are impressive! I found that tinned apricots were a good laxative, interestingly. Sorry to hear you suffer at night too.
icklekid That is horrible. I found rinsing out the nose with water after that jolly experience did help with the foul lingering scent in your nasal passages, though that stings too. It's not quite so bad with warm water.
Madrigal I hope you didn't have another such a dismal night?
I hope everyone is coping.

Just coming on to wish mop good luck for the induction tomorrow. I wasn't induced with DS but I know a couple of friends who when induced with second DC had a very quick labour. Hopefully you'll be snuggling a gorgeous newborn this time tomorrow. I will be thinking of you.

ickle we sound so similar... I had an epidural with DS too so never had after pains. I also had no feeling in my legs for hours and hours after birth.

Short one tonight as I am shattered - work is very busy at the minute and still catching up on lots since going back after sick leave. Considering heading to bed shortly. Felt very adventurous and had take out pizza which I am now regretting! Waves to everyone else, hope it's been a fairly vom free day for everyone.

Ooh can you move me to 8 Oct please? It's only a few days but I imagine I'll be desperate by then (although DS came early so I might be lucky).

Rocket1982 · 03/05/2016 19:36

motherofpearl best of luck for tomorrow!

lidika I second others' advice that you should get some meds lined up and start taking them as soon as you start to feel sick. There is a lot of evidence that helps to stop things getting bad. I suggested to someone else earlier in the thread who isn't pregnant yet that she might also consider getting tested for helicobacter pylori, as there is a pretty strong association with HG. It might be worth a shot - if you have it you can take antibiotics for a few weeks to get rid of it and it might reduce the chances or HG or reduce the severity. I wish I'd done it now before getting pregnant with my second!

Doing okay here. Things were getting worse for a while but have plateaued again. I'm throwing up mainly only in the early mornings and evenings. I had lost 8kg before I went on omeprazole but I have regained 2kg in the last 2-3 weeks. I had my 12 week scan today and it all seems OK! They put me forward to 13 weeks, which was psychologically great (fewer days of being pregnant, yay!!), so the due date is now November 8th. The baby had all its limbs and we saw the heart, brain and stomach. My three year old daughter came with us and loved watching the scan.

I went out with friends on Saturday and had a Lebanese meal. I actually enjoyed it! I thought Lebanese food might be the answer so went to a Lebanese restaurant again yesterday but I threw it all up. Now the thought of Lebanese food is nauseating. I realised that for me there is a psychological component, especially on the food aversions. In my first pregnancy my diet dwindled to almost nothing as there was less and less that I managed to consistently keep down (and therefore didn't nauseate me at the thought). I'd be interested to know what others think about this....

RaeSkywalker · 03/05/2016 19:51

Hi Lidika! I'm probably not going to be much help to you- I'm currently expecting DC1. DH and I have already discussed not having more based on how I'm feeling now, but I'm aware that it's highly likely that we will change our minds! I think if we do I will make sure I am medicated early, and that we have childcare arrangements sorted. There's no way I could care for another child in this state.

Sleepy I hope that the pizza stays down!

Lucinda I should have a due date for you next Wednesday after my scan Grin

RaeSkywalker · 03/05/2016 19:55

Rocket lovely news about your scan. I definitely agree on the food aversions. I can't eat: bread, potatoes in any cooked form, hula hoops, any dairy in any form, special K, veggie burgers, cauliflower, broccoli... I'm veggie anyway but any meat smell makes me throw up.

At the moment I am loving: Weetabix with soya milk and sugar, quorn chicken-style nuggets, spinach. But as soon as I'm sick after eating one I won't be able to face it again.

RaeSkywalker · 03/05/2016 19:56

Oh and crumpets (though I know they're bread). I could cope with them right at the start but not a chance now!!

mrsmonkey14 · 03/05/2016 20:27

Evening all
ickle well done on the brunch, so great when you can achieve something 'normal'! I had a couple of friends come round over BH weekend and was really nice to have some company for once.
fresh will be thinking of you on Friday and sending positive vibes. Hope all goes well.
MOP how exciting, good luck with the induction and hope it's not too much of an ordeal. Very personal choice of course, but many choose to have an epidural at same time as the drip. Whatever happens it shouldn't be long until you too are at the pink castle finally!!
Welcome lidika, my own experience is that I am genuinely not regretting the 2nd pregnancy, although the HG has been more severe this time. But forewarned is forewarned, I echo advice from the others about having childcare/support/early drugs. I'm very grateful that I was employed and so have childcare for my toddler for 4 days a week, esp as I have no family help. DH has been v supportive and I've had a consultant who has been v good with giving me the right drugs. Work were not supportive this time but I have at least been signed off which I didn't do last pregnancy. It's been harder to cope with having a child already, but I guess you know that having done it already. I'm not even ruling out a third at this stage (stupid though that sounds given how appalling I am at pregnancy).
sleepy take out pizza very impressive! Hope it stays down...
lucinda thanks for updating the due date list, encouraging to see I'm slowly creeping up to the top! Pink castle here i come...
rocket great news on the scan! V pleased for you. Know what you mean about the food aversions. Many things are ruined for me!
Had a fairly good day today. Just had Yop drink and a packet of crisps for my tea. I see this as progress as I've managed to eat something post 6pm 😊
Sleeping terribly so must must go to bed soon. Night all. X

LidikaLikes · 03/05/2016 21:30

Thanks for all of you who replied to me. I have meds left over in my bathroom unit (must check expiry dates!) some great advice which I'll take on board.

Best wishes to all of you having babies over the next few months. Exciting times ahead!

MadrigalElectromotive · 03/05/2016 21:35

Amys hope the pain is a bit better today.

Ickle well done on the brunch. Identifying a window where you can eat more properly is so helpful I think - it will probably help you to keep the ketones under control a bit as well.

Freshbread Best of luck for Friday. I really hope all goes well. Flowers

MOP Good luck for tomorrow - I will be eagerly awaiting your happy news.

Rae Poor you on the food smells. There really is nothing so revolting as the smell of someone else's food when you are in the throes of HG.

Lidika this is my first pg so I don't know what HG is like with other children, but I can understand the anxiety about planning another pregnancy - it is just so awful and disruptive. Best of luck whatever you decide to do. Smile

MrsE hope the pizza stayed down.

Rocket Lovely news about your scan and the extra week! I agree, there is a huge psychological element in the foods you can and can't eat with HG.

mrsmonkey well done on the post 6pm food.

I am starting to recover from the cold and the sickness has improved too. Only up once last night for a vom which I count as a win.

Lucinda - my due date is correct but I am booked for an ELCS on the 18th of May which is why I can be so specific about when my little one will be born! Smile

icklekid · 04/05/2016 05:18

Ohh good luck mop hope all goes well with your induction. I was induced (drip and epidural as someone mentioned up post) and was quick because they needed to get baby out however my friend had pessaries etc first and it took over 3 days. Do let us know how it goes and hope you are feeling ok hg wise.

Welcome Lidika everyone else has given fab advice but I'm surviving with a 20 month old ds. He's learning that sometimes mummy needs a rest and developing a healthy ability to watchaikovsky tv on really bad days! Thankful for childcare and family especially through the worst of sickness. Like others I was able to work last pregnancy this time signed off for months but worth it...or will be!

rae I have an equally limited diet however crumpets or scones (with jam) are amazing at the moment. Need to push myself to eat more balanced meal at lunch time now I can but so out of the habit!

rocket so pleased the scan went well and how lovely for your dd. I'm not sure I've ever had Lebanese food but sounds like something to try post hg! I'm really not adventurous in culinary eating habits!

sleepy I had pizza the other night and was so delicious although sadly did regret it. Hope you can have a more positive experience! Work was ok today however I've got to deliver a staff meeting tomorrow and know I will be far too enthusiastic and push myself too far. I will then pay for it on Thursday but still. I hate dull training and refuse to deliver something I wouldn't want to sit through!

rae hope you are feeling recovered from the weekend. Smells aren't normally too much of a trigger for me but ds put mint sauce on his shepherds pie and I was heaving. Was horrendous and had to leave the room! Frying meat is generally a no go too...hope dh learnt his lesson

fresh good luck with your scan hoping everything is ok but very natural to worry.

icklekid · 04/05/2016 05:20

Not sure what watchaikovsky is it just meant watch! 😂🙈

RaeSkywalker · 04/05/2016 08:35

ickle I think he has learnt his lesson. I feel quite guilty though, he loves bacon. Hopefully it will wear off post-pregnancy. My mum still has a couple of food smell aversions that developed in pregnancy and still make her feel very unwell, and it's been 27 years since she had her last baby! Shock

Freshbreadandfaith · 04/05/2016 10:49

I feel in a weird way like superman with his super human hearing abilities etc I feel that I have super human smelling abilities!!! It is insane how heightened my sense of smell is. My OH kindly put a mix in the breadmaker one evening which is my most nauseous time and as the bread was cooking and the smell got stronger all I could do was complain, constantly retch and run upstairs opening all the windows! He was trying to be helpful and all I do is whinge, it's not easy being a hg partner!!!
I can smell bodily smells of my OH and dd that I never noticed before. My mil again KINDLY did some washing for me and the smell of the washing powder on it is so ridiculously strong! See moaning again!
I managed to shop at waitrose today.... That was a minefield, constant strong perfume wafts as people passed me making me want to heave, certain foods I looked at made me want to heave and trying not to look at the raw meat counter.... And picking up really random things that I would never normally eat coz i think I might fancy it..... Like prawn crackers, spaghetti hoops and pot noodles........ Hg definitely messes with my brain and definitely my moods!!!!
Hope someone can relate to the above!
Wishing you all well today xxxxx

RaeSkywalker · 04/05/2016 11:01

Fresh I definitely agree with you! DH went for a run the other day and I couldn't bear to be in the same room as him when he got home. He also had to have a shower when he cooked a pork chop a few weeks ago Blush

Very impressed that you managed a food shop. I haven't been in about 2 months!

LucindaE · 04/05/2016 11:27

Rocket Sorry about Lebanese food disappointment. That sounds a foul experience. I so agree about aversions being set of that way. Avoid pasta, if possible, everyone. I couldn't face a pasta bake for years. The horror! The horror!
icklekid Sorry to hear of pizza misfortune, too. Cooked cheese is not nice to have reappear.
Raeskywalker To this day, the scent of iced gems makes me retch. Food aversions do seem to wear off gradually, but some seem fixed. Good luck for scan on Wednesday. Almost certainly, you won't need it.
and Freshbread. Much sympathy on the heightened sense of smell and body odours. Fridges are foul. Exhaust smells in the streets, too. My OH stank of roast pork to me - it was awful. I had to lie at the other side of the bed, holding a lavender satchet to my nose. Shock
Madrigal Ah, i see. I'll amend that.
msmonkey The Pink Castle awaits you! Hopefully, MotherofPearl - somewhat deflated in shape already from 'majestic' - will be coming over the drawbridge with baby today! Grin

Sorry for lack of personal replies I'm really lacking cognitive abilities. Just wanted to say good luck mop, I had my first sweep yesterday so I'll race you to the pink castle Smile
Hang in there everyone. Wishing you all less vomit filled days.

SpecialStains · 04/05/2016 16:09

Hello all!
MoP and squeezed fingers crossed for those babies soon!

I do like seeing my name moving further up that list of due dates, Lucinda! It's bizarrely motivating!

ickle don't push yourself too much with work!

Rae food smells are awful. I'm glad it's getting towards summer so I can persuade Dh to eat more salads/cold foods.

fresh I can def relate to everything you've put. I've been joking about my sensitive pregnancy nose being a super power! Dh came home from work one evening and I made him shower because he smelt so much of a leather seat. He was a bit freaked out as he had been working in a different office than usual, which had a leather seat in it, but thought I was mad to be able to smell it! We also had to change washing powder since I became pregnant - asda's own non bio is the only one I can tolerate! Sainsbury's own non-bio makes me feel really nauseous.

Rocket so pleased you had a nice scan. I love scans. I found the early ones amazing seeing them so tiny but already wriggling! Glad your daughter was excited by the scan too!

Feeling really quite good at the moment, despite an unexpected vomit of dinner last night (poached eggs and seeded bread not a good hyperemesis food!). Been fairly vomit free on the whole lately, and I've stopped taking ondansetron. Still a little nauseous all the time, and I'm like a toddler with my tastes in food, but I am eating a bit more. Have started routinely getting up at 4am with hunger pains and having a bowl of cereal. Dh thinks it's funny that I now have first and second breakfasts, as he then brings me toast/crumpets in bed when he gets up. Grin My bump has finally appeared this last week! I look properly pregnant now! 14 weeks and 6 days to go!
