I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Congratulations icant! Wonderful to hear that little Dexter is doing well, well done! I really hope you start to feel more normal soon.

Rocket1982 · 28/04/2016 18:20

many congratulations icant! reebok that sounds painful. hope you reach the finish line soon now it is in sight!

onceameer thanks! i have eaten so many polos i think they started to contribute to the taste. switched to fruit pastels today and its a bit more under control again!

MadrigalElectromotive · 28/04/2016 19:32

Waves back to Lucinda. Smile

I'm mostly lurking here these days - feel bad for moaning when so many of you are so much worse. I've got a stinking cold at the moment though and it's really setting off the HG again - had 2+ ketones at my mw appointment this morning so I'm keeping an eye on things with ketostix.

Ive got my c section booked for the 18th May though so less than 3 weeks to go, thank goodness!

Sorry for lack of personals - I think of you all often. Labour vibes to Reebok.

Twinklelittlestar1 · 28/04/2016 20:26

Congratulations Icant! Amazing news Flowers. I've been missing a while (mostly sleeping!) hope you are all doing ok, will have a read back through what I've missed.

amysmummy12345 · 29/04/2016 00:12

Congratulations iicant I'm so happy baby has arrived safely!!! C'mon reebok your turn next! Will try and catch up and post personals tomorrow, I'm useless at remembering without a pen and paper!!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 29/04/2016 00:26

Sorry for not lurking much in this thread unfortunately I find thinking to much about HG makes mine worse and I struggle to cope more.

I have a question and I'm hoping someone can help. I had a incident yesterday despite ordandestron and a cyclazine jab I had a crazy puke episode in my car (parked I didn't crash or anything) I cleaned it up and used some fabreze stuff and Zoflora and I did make sure I got all the puke up now my car stinks of puke and floral tinge which is the most disgusting combination I have ever encountered.

How can I get rid of it or do I just scrap the car.

Secondly if any of you are making small attempts to leave the house do not rely on supermarket fruit and veg bags to help.
There was I thinking I had been really clever grabbing one just in time and getting back to the car (no loo or bin near by) and that was the cause of myself and my car being covered in puke, I had to wait drenched in sick in a car park for almost 40 mins and to top it off it was the first actual real proper meal with real proper food that I have even attempted to eat in about 18 weeks.

Today I have admitted defeat and gone back to sucking rice crackers and ice cubes combined with caffeine free diet coke.

If anybody has realised just how painful certain foods are on re entry to the world and had been avoiding chips try crushed new potatoes they do not hurt quite so much

icklekid · 29/04/2016 05:23

Dexter is a beautiful name and so pleased to hear both you and he are doing well icant you have been nothing short of immense.

reebok with this many people willing this baby out I refuse to believe it will be long. Fingers crossed for the easiest labour ever...you just sneeze and they come out right? 😉 ( it's my second child promise I'm not actually naive!)

needs I reacon I could detail quite a variety of foods and how horrific they are on the way back up. Because my sickness is mainly eve I never know until later if lunch was worth it. Note to self- it never is! However even when not eating anything of substance sickness is still horrific so lose lose.

needs I'm afraid I have no definitive advise- shake and vac worth a try? I seem to recall doing that as a teenager in my parents house post party (the bed still has to be in a non ideal location so doesn't help with stains!) Shame it's got so cold as to be honest a few days with windows open would probably make biggest difference

amysmummy how are you and dd doing?

madrigal glad end is firmly in sight however colds are horrendous when combined with hg. Keep sucking ice lollies/whatever works best for you to reduce ketones and plenty of rest

Really sorry on phone so can only view this page. Slept until 5 which for me is great however less great was being woken by ds! However he appears to have gone back to sleep...phew! He only napped for 30mins yesterday which was unacceptable so he best be back to normal 2h again today!!! One more day and a 3 day weekend though 😃 refuse to let sickness make me feel negative even if im struggling to find the energy to get out of bed!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 29/04/2016 08:24

Oh goodness sock how awful.

Is it possible to leave the car windows wide open where you live? I'm sure the smell will get less in time though that doesn't help you now .. specially with the HG Nose.

ickle hoping for a nice 2 hour nap for littleickle for ya!

LucindaE · 29/04/2016 11:10

Ican't That's a fine weight, too, given he was nearly two weeks early. Well done.
A good name. Is that your favourite? Glad you feel a little better. Sorry to her of blood loss. Did they give you blood? I lost just under two pints, so they said I could make it up, but as I was one of the very unlucky few who suffered for a while after birth, it was really difficult, and as you've been so ill for so long, I hope they've got a lot of after care worked out for you.
Thinking of Reebok as ever. Can't be long now, but every hour must seem a day.
Needsasockamnesty That sounds awful. As others say, maybe an open window will clear it. I remember using one of those odour reducing hand washes to wash a carpet. Might that help? Sorry you are still suffering. It is all so difficult. What appeals can be, as you say, painful or super disgusting on the way up.
Madrigal Sorry to hear of cold. That does make things so much worse.
Rocket How are you?
Twinkle Sleeping is one of the best ways to get through this!
icklekid Typical; I wrote you a message and the handwriting was so bad, I can't read it! That's my problem with taking notes.
I hope spandau squeezed Nutty Tweed MotherofPearl 1more and everyone is coping today.
OnceaMeer Why, thank you for that virtual umbrrella for Mother Hen's wings!
Still very cold, and round here, hail or wet sleet now and then. Those confined to bed at least can comfort themselves that they aren't missing lovely spring weather.
Watch me cross post.
Back soon.

TweedAddict · 29/04/2016 11:24

Congratulations ICANT!

Needs- how about paying to have it professionally cleaned? We had a car that used to be owned by a smoker, they did manage to get rid of the smell.

I'm just so tired at the moment and my belly is so sore and tender, I look about 6months along! Currently keeping on top of the sickness, although any tips for healthy snacks to eat while out and about. I'm finding fruit a no no, maybe due to the acid or sugars but I keep that down

NeedsAsockamnesty · 29/04/2016 15:40

I and considered getting someone else to do it but thought it was so gross it would be very rude of me to do that

MotherofPearl · 29/04/2016 15:59

Thanks for asking after me Lucinda. I'm OK just feeling so tired and the nausea seems to be intensifying. Also had a bit of non-HG drama yesterday - the boiler broke so we were stuck with no heating or hot water, and of course the weather is freezing! It's fixed now, thank goodness.
Am 38+6 today and saw the midwife this morning, who gave me a sweep as per consultant's instructions. So far no effect! But am booked for my induction on Wednesday so not too bothered.
Hoping Icant is now sickness-free, and that perhaps BabyReebok might be out now.
Sorry to hear of car sickness disaster Needs. Bicarb of soda is good at absorbing bad smells. You could try sprinkling a few tubs of it over the affected areas, leave overnight and then hoover up?
Hope everyone else is managing, and that DS gave you a decent rest today Ickle.

MotherofPearl · 29/04/2016 16:01

Also meant to say, Fresh, I hope you managed to dodge that tummy bug? What could be worse?!

SleepymrsE · 29/04/2016 16:06

Fingers crossed for the sweep mop, although as you say not long now anyway. Hopefully reebok won't be long now either.

needs sorry about your puke incident. I find dog poo bags are pretty good to keep in your pocket for emergency vomits. Fingers crossed the smell clears soon, must be horrendous for you. I would suggest the car air freshener but they make me feel sick at the best of times never mind with HG.

How you doing today ickle, hope you manage to get some rest.

I finally got some results yesterday. The good news is my bloods showed I hadn't been exposed to slap cheek virus at the time it was taken but I'm not immune so advised to have bloods taken again in a few weeks.

I braved a trip into town with DS this morning as desperately needed a few bits of maternity clothes and take something back. No vom episodes but shattered despite DS napping since we got back. I have so little energy at the minute.

waterjungle · 29/04/2016 16:27

Hi All,

I've been lurking for ages now. I am currently 31 / 32 weeks pg. Sorry this may be a bit long but I just want to gibe some context!

Diagnosed with HG at 7 / 8 weeks when admitted to hospital with dehydration and +3 ketones (after rehydration). It was a really rough time, I had been to the Dr. repeatedly for 2 weeks thinking that this was just what being pregnant was like and I was a wimp for not being able to cope. The Drs put me back on antidepressants that I had stopped 18 months before and prescribed me lorazapam for panic attacks and told me sickness was part of being pregnant. By the time I was admitted to hospital I hadn't eaten or slept for almost 5 days, the nasty side effects of starting antidepressants had kicked in, combined with a flu jab the day before (where I'd thrown up over the nurse)that combined with the IV Cyclazine and dehydration made me think I was going made (the patterns on the ward curtains started moving and coming coming towards my bed and I was convinced I was gong to throw myself out of the window).
Anyway I got better eventually and have found that cyclazine works for me. I started to feel a lot better at about 16 weeks even though I had daily "flamboyant" retching attacks that would sometimes result in uncontrollable puking.

So now I'm at 31/32 weeks, and for the past 4 / 5 weeks have gradually started feeling worse again.

Have any of you experienced this?

It's not just the constant nausea and violent retching out of nowhere but now it's always accompanied by violent headaches and then incredibly tiredness. I can easily sleep 10 hours and then go back to sleep for 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon as I feel so sick. I basically feel like I have flu coming, aching joints, heavy limbs and swollen glands. I've had my urine and blood pressure checked - all fine.
I also had my glucose and iron checked at 28 weeks which were all good.

Is this anything to see the Dr about or is it just a return of HG and accompanying symptoms?

Or am I just 31 weeks pregnant and this is what It feels like!

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 29/04/2016 16:28

sleepy very glad to hear that you're clear of slapped cheek, that must be a relief.

MotherofPearl · 29/04/2016 16:38

Yes, seconding Meerka - really glad to hear that the results for slapped cheek are OK. Must be a weight off your mind Sleepy.
Water, sorry to hear what an ordeal you've endured. I'm afraid I have heard of HG returning in the third trimester for some unlucky women, but it's never as bad as during the first tri. It could also just be a temporary hormone surge, so may settle down. I think the tiredness is normal, but cyclizine can also cause drowsiness (not that I'm suggesting you stop taking it). Try to rest as much as you possibly can.

LucindaE · 29/04/2016 17:04

Welcome to waterjungle. My goodness, your experiences have been horrific!
At a certain stage of dehydration one starts to become confused, and what with the side effects of the combined drugs, that must have been awful. I think it's worth asking the doctor about the awful migraine type headaches, if they're not connected with dehydration. Often one can get them with hormonal surges, but it sounds worth enquiring about.
MotherofPearl Good luck with sweep.
SleepymrsE That's happy news!
Waves to Tweed andOnceaMeer and everyone.
I too, hope that baby Reebok has appeared. This baby knows how to make a build up to an entrance like a champion boxer entering the ring!
Hope everyone is coping today. Apologies if I've rudely overlooked anyone.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 29/04/2016 19:00

water sorry, I didnt see your post

No, you most certainly did not have normal MS, and you were I'm afraid woefully undertreated.

Cyclizine is excellent intravenously and good as a tablet, but there are stronger and more effective meds.

Sadly HG can come back in the 3rd trim yes. If you can, find an HG aware doctor. Get some more cyclizine (it's absolutely safe) and ask for something stronger as well, but make it clear how far along you are. A good option right now is metoclopramide. The good news is that while shite, the HG is never as bad as in the first few months and it (usually) goes away fast once tinyjungle is out

Nuttypops · 29/04/2016 20:21

Mop, I hope the sweep gets things moving.
Rebook, hoping your little one is here, or very nearly so now.
Water, what an awful experience. I am sorry you are feeling so awful. I am only in the early stages of this with my second pregnancy so not very clued up on HG yet, but although you will feel tired at 31 weeks, it is definitely more than that. I hope you can get proper treatment over the weekend.

The combination of medication hasn't kicked in here properly yet, so I was admitted to hospital yesterday with dehydration as I couldn't keep anything down. Rehydration and anti sickness meds helped overnight, and they sent me home this afternoon to get started on the medication again but I am already struggling. Hoping this starts to get better soon, I never realised pregnancy could feel this horrendous. DH is meant to be away with work mon-fri next week, leaving DD with me but realistically I can't see me being capable.

Reebok · 29/04/2016 21:22

Just quickly popping on to say due date has pretty much gone...still no baby. Sad

Rocket82 · 29/04/2016 22:11

Oh no reebok are you still having contractions? Fingers crossed it will be soon!

needs my niece regularly throws up in my mums car and we've found that 2 or 3 separate cleanings with disinfectant along with airing is pretty good at getting rid of the smell. Normal detergent doesn't shift it in my experience.

water welcome to the thread! Sorry it's getting worse again. I've heard it can happen but it usually won't get as bad as earlier on. i was dreading it coming back it my first pregnancy in the first trimester, but I was largely ok after 26 weeks (though still with some food aversions and throwing up a couple of times a week!). I agree with other advice to go back on meds before it can take hold.

Still the same here. 12 weeks now, does that mean I am out of the first tri or do I have to wait until 13 weeks? It hasn't made any difference but psycholgically it is a milestone. Diet is currently complan for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch and custard for dinner. I've realised that I'm eating enough sweets that I'm consuming a pretty excessive level of sugar, like 30 teaspoons a day. I shouldn't be doing this right? Or could it be ok if only for a few months?

icklekid · 30/04/2016 05:29

rocket none of us are on a healthy balanced diet right now- if the sweets help carry on if they are just a yummy habit perhaps cut back a bit but I wouldn't be worried! Congratulations on reaching the 2nd trimester. 1/3 of the way through!

reebok boo for no due date baby - time for serious words baby- there's plenty of teachers on this thread to do that! On the other side please just rest. Baby will come and this will be over very soon

nutty glad that you got the rehydration you needed amazing how much better you will feel then. Pregnancy really is a long hard slog with hg and often feels like an impossible uphill struggle but having others going through it has made a huge difference to me!

water totally agree with others who've expressed huge sympathy as you've had such a tough pregnancy. Sounds like your body is definitely telling you to rest again. Are you still at work? Lots of sleep and keep taking whatever medication is working- if cyclazine stops being effective don't be afraid to ask the gp to change even now. On the plus side not long to go now!

sleepy are you me? I took ds into town and regretted it once there. So easy to do too much and suffer as a consequence. Relieved that no slapped cheek concerns at the moment anyway.

Sickness yesterday was horrendous and relieved to have got to the 3 day weekend finally! Even went out last night to a friends for his birthday (pizza was avoided after memories of last Friday night!) Was nice to be out of the house even if sat on someone else's sofa with friends! It has even resulted in me sleeping until 5.15am which is great for me! Hope you are all able to rest this weekend and the weather isn't as horrific as forecast!

LucindaE · 30/04/2016 11:41

Nutty I am so sorry you were bad enough to be admitted, and now are strugglg again. What meds did they send you home with (I know gramatically that should be, 'with which meds did they send you home' but it sounds so pedantic!)
Water Silly me, not to pick up on the fact that you were still on cyclizine. Great advice from OnceaMeer. I do hope you can soon get an appointment and get extra meds and some investigation of the violent headaches.
Reebok Oh no, poor you, with the baby refusing to budge. We are all cheering you on, but that's not much comfort. icklkid I agree the teachers should have a serious talk with BabyReebok asap. Grin
Have to go to deal with something prosaic. Back soon. I hope everybody is not suffering too badly today.

OP posts:
SleepymrsE · 30/04/2016 11:48

Note to self and others don't try to drink tea. It's a bad idea and one not to be repeated again any time soon. Silly me to think at 17 weeks I would be able to manage it!
