pecka, hope my experience might help you. I had a positive pregnancy test 4 days before my period was due. I then experienced really bad shooting pains on my left side the day my period was due so had an early scan on what was 4+1 they couldn't find anything in my womb but could see the lining was thickened. They found a cyst the size of an 8 week feotus but couldn't tell if it was on my ovary or in my fallopian tube. They were concerned it was an ectopic but I knew I couldn't be 8 weeks pregnant so I decided to wait and see what happened. I had blood tests every 2 days and my levels weren't going up quite how they expected them to. At 5 weeks they could see the sack and at 6 weeks it had grown, however it wasn't until I was 7 weeks that they found the heartbeat and confirmed the pregnancy as viable. My ds is now 18 months old. It was a horrible time and I really feel for you. See if you can push for another scan on Friday so that at least you have a chance of getting an answer before Christmas. Let us know how you get on. Good Luck.

Pecka;

There is a private scanning clinic in Gosforth if this is something you would consider?

PeckaRolloverAgain · 21/12/2006 09:00

That is really interesting tutu - were your levels as slow doubling as mine?

geordie - where is the private scan clinic in gosforth?

Why would it still be going up if you were not pregnant????

merrylissiemas · 21/12/2006 16:27

exactly! surely it would stay the same or drop? have they got back in touch yet?

popsycal · 21/12/2006 18:39

oh pecka
will email my home number - not sure if you have it ir not

give me a ring tonight if you want
when will you find out something conclusive

ItalianJob · 21/12/2006 18:54

pecka - when I was PG with DS my HCG levels only went up by about 30% in 48 hours (IIRC from 4700 to 5900)- most of the info I found on the internet was doom and gloom about this, but then I read that HCG levels double in early PG in about 85 to 90% of healthy PGs - i.e. that there are some healthy PGS where they don't double. Slowly increasing HCG levels can unfortunately also be a sign of an ectopic pg, so if you get any nasty stomach pains/back/shoulder tip pains, I would take that very seriously indeed.

Did you have an internal scan or abdominal scan? An abdominal scan shows about a week less development at this stage than an internal one.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 21/12/2006 20:07

they rang me back

they are suspecting ectopic

or hopefully "just" a failing miscarriage

seems all hopes of viable pregnancy have gone

i have to be at the hospital as early as i can get there in the morning (missing dd's carol service)

oh I'm so sorry pecka

((((((((hugs))))))))) for you for tommorrow

ItalianJob · 21/12/2006 20:13

on the one hand I don't want to feel like I'm offering false hope, but on the other hand that was exactly the same as what happened to me after the blood test results - pessimistic phone call, hauled in for a scan the next morning, but it still turned out well. it's a shitty situation, very nerve wracking, best wishes for tomorrow.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/12/2006 20:14

oh sweet......

nuffields do carry out private scans btw. Approx £150.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 21/12/2006 20:24

i think mine are even slower than 30% but thankyou for sharing at the back of my mind i will hope for a miracle but think its probably a done deal

popsycal · 21/12/2006 22:43

oh god - no exactly what you need right now
what do you have to mention?
will email you tomorrow
too much wine and baileys tonight

MerryPiffmas · 21/12/2006 22:43

Pecka
If it is ectopic you are very lucky (I know hard concept to feel right now) to have it detected before it does any harm.
I've had a ruptured one and it's not nice.
They can treat them quite "easily", but do make sure they do full internal and external scans.
Wishing you all the luck in the world for tomorrow xxxxxxxxxx

MerryPiffmas · 21/12/2006 22:46

pecka protocal
They can treat with an injection called methotrexate or they can remove it laproscopically.
I recommend the ectopc pregnanct trust for really good info
