Plus size bumps!

Have seen a few threads where women are feeling crap for being plus size and pregnant. I feel crap sometimes too, especially when googling pregnancy and only seeing representations of slim pregnant women and nobody who looks like me (no offence at all to slim women). I couldn't really find much that wasn't critical or bump pics!

So here's a thread for plus size bumps if you're feeling up to posting yours!

Here's mine- 25 weeks today!

Can I ask in the nicest way that we maybe don't use this thread to discuss weight loss/slimming clubs? It's nice to have a thread not to apologise for worry about, insult ourselves etc about our weight and keep it a place where we can share our bumps?

Tranquilitybaby · 11/12/2014 20:03

Oh so sorry, I just wondered if anyone had been referred, as it might be relevant Sad Apologies xx

BigCatFace · 11/12/2014 20:25

It's ok, I don't mean to be an arse. You might get more responses with a new thread anyway. My MW advised me against dieting and I still haven't gained more than 4lbs. But I have heard about the referral thing.

helloelo · 11/12/2014 21:01

no worries tranquility we all tend to go there pg or not, I was the 1st one to mention how much weight I lost / put back on Blush but I'm with bigcat on this one, advised not to restrict calories while pg (not UK) so prefer not to think about active dieting. Great stuff though if you can be referred and feel happy about it!

Jodie1982 · 11/12/2014 22:12

Bloody hate Diets. I think the only thing I'm enjoying about my pregnancy is the fact I'm not having to worry about my diet Grin. I'll just worry and obsess about it after. Luckily the only thing I'm craving is ICE I bloody luv it!

Emilyjane11 · 12/12/2014 15:18

I am a size 18/20. Can I ask when you all started to show? I'm 11 weeks on Sunday and have a definite bloat!! I can't wait to embrace the bump!! Xx

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 12/12/2014 18:53

hard to tell when I started to show, since I don't look at myself much!
I have big boobs so that and baggy clothes meant it wasn't visible for ages.

incidentally, H&M maternity clothes go up to a 20-22, I'm wearing them now and they're comfy and fit! I wish I'd bought more.

Emilyjane11 · 12/12/2014 18:57

Wow really?! That's amazing thanks for that I didn't think I'd fit in anything from h and m. I have been taking photos just for me to see and I can see a difference but I think it's bloat I look 8 months gone if I let it all go which I could certainly control before!!

BigCatFace · 12/12/2014 19:00

I need to get a good winter coat, ideally one for after too. Any recommendations appreciated! Am size 20 at the mo but getting bigger!

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 12/12/2014 19:08

sorry, I'm just wearing my old fleece and hoping it lasts! can't help with coats.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 12/12/2014 19:14

peacocks go up to a 20, but they're always a size smaller than the label so I'd try on there rather than buying online if possible.

it's hard to find maternity stuff which fits, manufacturers tend to think only slim people get pregnant... obviously those over an 18 like me are just unshaggable or we should be hidden away so don't need clothes!

berberana · 12/12/2014 19:43

Hello, I was a size 18 and BMI 35 pre preg and am now 22+6. I have found Isabella Oliver and Tiffany Rose stuff really fab and it goes up to size 20. It's £££ but you can often find excellent bargains on ebay or in the clearance sections of the website.

What I am really struggling with is maternity tights - size "large" just sag and chafe inner thighs cos there's not enough fabric in the body. Also I'm finding it hard to get smart work trousers - I need a size 20 now. Am going with frocks and leggings most of the time but sometimes want to look a bit smarter!

On a different note, if anyone is wanting a home birth (or is just not happy with their ante natal care), check out One to One Midwives. You can self-refer and it's like an independent midwife but commissioned by the NHS so free of charge to clients. They treat you on a case by case basis rather than shoving you in the high risk box so some ladies on her might find the service beneficial. Hospital birth is supported too of course, you have a lot more choice over your options. I'm certainly v pleased so far.

BigCatFace · 12/12/2014 20:31

Size 20 is too small for me, I'm a size 20 now and my boobs and bump are getting massive. I'm looking into bigger swing coats though!

Teeste · 12/12/2014 20:37

BigCatFace - how about something like this? Yours Clothing don't do maternity any more but it is usually relatively inexpensive stuff, you may find something to suit Smile

skyra13 · 12/12/2014 21:12

Hey about coats this is what my hubby has brought me for Xmas have it already as couldn't get my other coat on anymore. www.hm.com/gb/product/29385?article=29385-A
Link if anyone wants to look goes upto size XL = 22 to 24.
It is a lovely coat plan on wearing it after to.

EstRusMum · 12/12/2014 21:49

BigCat I got mine off bonprix. It was £60, but totally worth it. Although I bought size 18, but they might have bigger ones too.

LancashireTea · 14/12/2014 12:27

Hi ladies, I was a size 18 before I got pg, and had a bmi of 41 (5ft2 and 1600000 stone!) at first. Horrible midwife who told me to diet (she was very restrictive with what I could eat and TBH most of it was my daily diet anyway - I just snack as i get stressed at work), that I was irresponsible, and that I would deffo get GD - incidentally I have and I only got diagnosed the other day Sad and have been starving since as my bloods are all over the place so no carbs and lactose free milk is what I'm trying to sort it before I start tablets tomorrow.
Anyhoo... I've put on 1kg since getting pregnant due to the amount of vomiting I did at first.
I've been lucky so far with clothes as I still fit in a lot of my old things, but my coat is slowly becoming an issue.

Kym134 · 16/12/2014 20:51

Hi all,
No bump to show as ttc currently but one thing really worrying me is being overweight and putting up with the midwife and doctor rants about it.
Just wanted to say this is really helping with all your bumps and experiences, it is making me worry less.
Anyone else have any other good experiences (or I suppose bad) with the doctors/midwives.

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 29/12/2014 14:57

I find being blunt helps with that, Kym... "yes, i'm fat. No, I don't need to be referred to the dietician/nutritionist. Please stop mentioning it unless it's necessary, because I'm finding it rude"

but mostly they've all been nice and supportive and "of course you're not the most overweight expectant mum I've seen, don't be so silly!" (BMI of 41 here...)

Tranquilitybaby · 29/12/2014 22:40

With a bmi of 36, when might I expect to show? I look v slightly bigger but not much at all at 15 weeks.

skyra13 · 29/12/2014 22:49

I started to really show from 18 weeks, the midwife said to me at my 16 week appointment that she could notice the bump. I think currently 26 weeks and defo got a pregnancy bump more obvious when I stand up my BMI was 37.

rachelrawrrr · 30/12/2014 04:22

It makes me really happy to see these plus size bumps . i've not got a bump pic I'm afraid, i'm still ttc #1, but with a bmi of 45 I'm quite scared that I'm gonna be the size of a house! Well.. I'm nearly there just now, but yeah Grin
Seeing all your lovely bumps are making me very broooooody Blush

cheshirem2b · 30/12/2014 07:18

Last picture from me... 39+5 today (picture taken yesterday) & being induced on Thursday if baby hasn't already arrived!

Plus size bumps!
EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 30/12/2014 11:55

Rachel, go for it. I actually lost weight having my first, was 2lb lighter the night before I had him than I had been pre-pregnancy!

Tranquilitybaby · 30/12/2014 12:39

I weighed myself this morning for the first time in a month and I've gained a lb so pretty pleased with that. Just trying to eat healthily and look after myself.

Lovely pic Cheshire, you look fab.
