Plus size bumps!

Have seen a few threads where women are feeling crap for being plus size and pregnant. I feel crap sometimes too, especially when googling pregnancy and only seeing representations of slim pregnant women and nobody who looks like me (no offence at all to slim women). I couldn't really find much that wasn't critical or bump pics!

So here's a thread for plus size bumps if you're feeling up to posting yours!

Here's mine- 25 weeks today!

Oh you look lovely, your skin looks really good too, mine has been terrible all pale n spotty. Did you have any symptoms with your GD? I have my test on the 29th, just have to drink Lucozade n have bloods taken an hr later. When would you rather deliver? How many weeks will you be when being Induced?

cheshirem2b · 05/11/2014 11:24

Jodie - thanks! I was wearing full makeup which hid the bags from under my eyes! Wink
Regarding the GD I had no symptoms - went for a routine test due to my BMI and it came back with a fasting blood of 5.4 (should be 5.0 or under) and a post-glucose of 6.8 (should be under 8.0). They re-did my fasting bloods and they were 5.3 so I've been testing myself for a week and other than occasional drops in the day of 4.6 my readings are always 5.3-5.6 so not HIGH but too high for their liking.
I'd LOVE to have baby before Christmas - would be the best Christmas present EVER! But given my readings are very high I'm in limbo waiting for the clinic appointment tomorrow when I am hoping to get some answers... If they do induce me before Christmas I would be around 38 weeks so perfectly ready to deliver I hope!

liesal79 · 05/11/2014 12:10

Hi chess...I had gd & if you lived by me, you would be considered normal!!! I have to be under 5.5 fasting & under 7.8 1hr after eating so you would be fine. I will be induced coz of the gd at 38-39 weeks so before Christmas, as they don't like you to go over as it can harm the baby xxx

Jersey37 · 05/11/2014 14:32

Lovely positive thread! You are all beautiful and don't let anyone get you down. There are lots of medical reasons that make having a baby more difficult, but they are not all 100% guaranteed to be problematic. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be a fit as possible before getting pregnant, but sometimes it just happens. Peaceloveandbiccies... My bugbear is when medical staff attempt to make you feel like it would be better to abort... when I got the high BMI gumph through the post, that is exactly how it made me feel. I wanted to slap them and say - what exactly do you suggest I do about that NOW!?

skyra13 · 05/11/2014 14:34

Currently 18 weeks. I'm 5ft 4 with a bmi of 37 at my first app size 18 :) Lost some weigh last time I seen midwife not sure if I put any on since my scales don't work :)

Jodie1982 · 05/11/2014 15:07

None of you Ladies look too big to me tho, your all beautifully pregnant. I look like a slob today, been a lazy one. Hips and back have been killing me, walking like I've messed myself lol, plus I'm tryin to Potty Train my 2yr old and she's sooooo not interested very unlike my older 3 she's more laid back, must get it from her Father lol.

magneticfield55 · 05/11/2014 15:38

Yeah, I got the YOU'RE GOING TO KILL YOUR BABY speech too and it made me furious. My midwife said no to attempting weight loss and my GP basically says as long as I'm fairly physically healthy (which I am) then ok. There's not a fucklot I can do about my weight due to the medication that caused it and is being monitored. It can cause low birth weight but GD can cause a high one (I don't have GD yet that I know of but found out I should have been having regular diabetes screenings due to meds) so maybe somewhere in between we'll find a happy place eh. No use shaming pregnant women for their bodies whatever their weight. It's the worst time to attempt any diets. And let's not shame ourselves either.

If my mw or doctor said anything like that to me about your going to kill your baby due to your weight i think i would of slapped them in the face.
I for one know im big and always have been, but i am happy with my self and i can say that i haven't really had anything said to me much about my weight, my mid wife has put me under consultant led care but she said she had to due to my bmi but if i have a smooth pregnancy i will be put back on to mid wife led care.
The only thing mentioned to me really was i might not feel baby move due to extra padding for a while :P

MammySam · 18/11/2014 20:53

Aw glad this thread was bumped! Lovely seeing ll the lovely bump pics!
I'm definitely plus size with a bump, dress size 20-22 (eek!) and now with a bump!
Got an extra flabby bit at the bottom of the bump as well left over from DD! (Which was 5yrs ago now, so no excuse really!)
:D

Slongette · 18/11/2014 21:06

Oh lord I'm massively over weight and 10 weeks pregnant with DC2.

I walk the dogs twice a day and am fairly active - even managed to grout the kitchen floor at 7 months with DS. The consultant saw me for 5 mins and sent me back to Midwife led care. Hoping this pregnancy will be the same!

JennyAnn1982 · 20/11/2014 13:09

All the bumps look great!

I'm 5ft 6 and dress size 18 pre preg. BMI of 31 at booking in. I don't think I've put too much on - this is me at 31 weeks (I'm now at 33).

I've always carried my weight well (due to height) and the midwives have been great - mainly telling me that they can't believe I'm obese (ha ha - I can...).

I got tested for GD due to weight and family factors (my dad is a diabetic) but it was negative which surprised me, I thought I'd definitely have it as I was big, just goes to show you shouldn't read the internet!

The saddest moment for me was when one of the radiographers at one scan (I've had a few) wrote that she got poor pictures due to my size which made me feel i was stopping the baby from being monitored properly. I mentioned this next time and the radiographer (different one) said that was nonsense as she'd managed fine.

I read that I'd feel less movement as I was bigger - rubbish.

I love my bump because it's hard and doesn't wobble. I'll be sad when the bump is gone because my wobbly belly will be back (and worse no doubt!). Also - I've not had any stretch marks, I think because my tummy wasn't tight to begin with.

upduffedsecret · 20/11/2014 13:53

bmi of 41 at booking in.

20 weeks pregnant.

No pictures yet LOL I tend to avoid cameras by habit

I also have the comment that the scan pictures weren't great because of "maternal habitat" and my weight... charming!

JennyAnn1982 · 20/11/2014 13:57

upduffedsecret - the one above is so far the only 'bump' photo. I refused them all until it was an obvious bump and not flab.

DH suggested a pregnancy photoshoot, sometimes I swear he lives on a different planet! Smile

upduffedsecret · 20/11/2014 14:20

or he finds you irresistably sexy as you are, JennyAnn

Emilyjane11 · 22/11/2014 19:12

I bloody love this thread. I have a bmi of 35 at booking in and im 6ft. No bump yet as I am only 8 weeks but this has made me happy and excited to have one :)

upduffedsecret · 24/11/2014 12:17

where are you all getting maternity clothes?

the previous two I just wore my normal clothes throughout, it was getting a bit tight by the end but we made it. that's not going to work this time, and I can't find size 22 or 24 (big boobs!) maternity clothes anywhere!

EstRusMum · 24/11/2014 13:08

Woohoo, something for me! I had BMI 34 when booking in and this photo is done at 29+2. I do believe I look amazing in this pregnancy, but this photo had unpleasant comments by two people. "Are you sure you're not expecting twins?"
One of them was a guy with the belly size of quintuplets and a woman who is 60 years old and never had kids.
Anyway, I'm 33+3 now and don't see any much changes really. Just more difficult to walk.
Oh, and I'm size 18-20.

Jodie1982 · 09/12/2014 23:46

I'm going to put a new one up tomorrow when I will be 30+4, I look like I'm carrying a Toddler!
BigCat you look lovely and in good health, I'm envious as I look n feel awful! Lol.

helloelo · 10/12/2014 00:38

Brilliant thread!!!

BMI 34 at booking in, dress size 20.

This is me at 20w. Lost a stone between 7w and 17w. Went from a 34E to a 34GG though!

Since then I've put the stone back on (I'm 35w now) but everybody's been super nice to me apart from the one doctor who could not believe I don't have GD. I feel amazing tough, like I've never been sexier in my entire life (and I don't have to pull my stomach in!).

helloelo · 10/12/2014 00:51

"I feel amazing though" stupid autocorrect!

And for the record this is me at 10w. I had just started wearing mat jeans and I thought I was obviously pg :)
