Hope nobody minds me starting a new thread, but the old one was taking forever to load.

Who is still waiting? It's just that the thread has been very quiet of late.

I am having this baby, the day afer tomorrow (c-section), when are the rest of you due. Sorry I can't remember

hewlettsdaughter · 13/04/2004 14:03

Hi Debbiethemum, I am due 22 April (a week on Thurs). How are you feeling? Excited/nervous?

Metrobaby · 13/04/2004 14:22

Hi Debbiethemum - I am due on the 19th (a week today) so still waiting. I've been getting painful BH contractions but thats about it. The babys head is not yet engaged either so I reckon I'll be on this thread for a while yet!

Lesley76 · 13/04/2004 14:23

Hi everyone. Big congratulations to you Mrs D and family - hope your laid back Dh is keeping busy now!

Dot ? many congratulations to you and Juno & welcome home Orla. How is your DS coping? I?m so pleased that the BF is going so well for you after the birth not working out the way you planned it. Please go on posting lots of encouraging things. I am truly inspired by hearing about how stroppy you were at the hospital - I?m worried that I wont have the courage to demand what I need in the way of pain relief, information etc. Like you, I really want to get home ASAP. Hate hospitals, the noise, the food etc & haven?t been impressed by the stories I?ve heard about the postnatal care. Would much rather be home and well looked after by wonderful Dh.

We?ve now finished all the work on the house so at last I can have a rest in the afternoon when 4yo goes to nursery. Previously the house was full of workmen drilling, welding and demanding endless cups of tea. This is just as well as I?m now REALLY TIRED, despite sleeping reasonably well during the night. Is this normal or am I just being a wimp again? I find that after just a few hours (light) housework or a morning out I?m fit for nothing. Even climbing the stairs a few times leave me tired. It cant be carrying the extra weight as I?ve only put on about 1 ½ stone so I?m still just over 10 stone and 5?5?, which lots of women are non- preg. Maybe its just old age?..

Have still had no signs of imminent labour and am due this Saturday. Not one single BH, just pressure in the pelvis. Does this mean I?ll be late ? Dot and Mrs D seemed to have weeks of cramping pains etc before they saw any real action? Advice please? Fennel, EmmaG, HD, Peppergirl ? you?ve been here before?

Any news from Debbie the mum or Bluecow or Metrobaby? Weren?t they due to be induced around now? Sorry if I?m confused?????.. Also Dolbear is very quiet

Lesley76 · 13/04/2004 14:24

Oops sorry posted on the thread.............its the hormones..........

Fennel · 13/04/2004 14:33

so this is where you all are! I just posted about being the lonely "last on thread" on our old thread.

am a bit relieved not to be totally alone.

I have no real symptoms, just occasional tantalising suggestions which I have to ignore for my own sanity. Like, a vague trickle (not wee, definitely) this morning. Could it be waters trickling? possibly but probably not (my waters never broke naturally before). Just went to aqua-natal class and spent the class convinced my waters might break in the pool, did all the exercises with thighs firmly clamped together.

Lesley I had no real pains, signs, shows etc before going straight into labour with dd1, just one evening the contractions started and within a couple of hours I was 6cm and regular painful contractions. so it doesn't mean anything, whether you get signs for days or weeks beforehand. With dd2 I just got a show one day and contractions started the next. This time as you know I had a spate of contractions 3 weeks ago which came to nothing. No obvious patterns. except on tv drama (eg william and mary this week) when your waters ALWAYS break dramatically several weeks early and you go into fast labour, in water pool usually, while husband rushes frantically to arrive just in time for the (popped out easily) birth.

motherinferior · 13/04/2004 14:41

Lesley, the exhaustion's a late preg thing - honestly, the day before I had dd2 I didn't get up till 4.30 pm and then only because I had to go and get her sister. Look on it as a Good Sign. Oh, and I had nothing significantly labour-ish till waters went pop and contractions began.

Did anyone note that the bodydouble getting into the waterpool on W&M was NOT a heavily pregnant woman? Six months tops, I'd say.

Fennel · 13/04/2004 14:46

I did notice the body was far more sleek and toned than the average flabby cellulite-y water retented woman-in-labour yes!

oh yes, well done Dot for insisting on coming home early! I discharged myself a few hours after having dd2, was so much happier at home. Will definitely discharge myself again as soon as I can stand up (that's if I'm not at home all along - keep forgetting to be a proper homebirth type and imagine myself ending up in hospital)

hewlettsdaughter · 13/04/2004 14:51

Lesley, I don't remember getting any real signs until labour actually started last time round. Also, I am definitely getting tired if I do anything (eg sorting stuff out, going up and down stairs too many times, fetching ds from nursery)
Fennel, you need to do some positive visualising

Lesley76 · 13/04/2004 15:02

Thank you, all you experienced mums, for the reassurances re start of labour.

Also good to know I'm not just a fat old lazy lump............i'm just feeling a bit no very guilty because all the nesting stuff has worn off and i feel i get nothing done all day (except look after 4yo during the morning and a little housework) then wonderful Dh comes in at night and does EVERYTHING after long demanding day at work.

How are you feeling Debbie? Metrobaby - is this your first? I have no BH but head IS engaged. Will find out tomorrow at antenatal if its moved down since last week - i'm feeling more pressure.I'm due on Sat although official hospital date is next Thursday, so i assume they won't hassle me to be induced for another two weeks. This suits me at the moment, but who knows how I'll feel by then...........

I thought you only got the head engaged early for first baby - is that right?

peppergirl · 13/04/2004 15:11

hello all,

glad to hear that the absence of symptoms doesn't mean anything.

Fennel, I've also been driving myself mad with imaginary (?) trickling. I'd imagined that 2nd time round i'd know what was going on but i seem to have less of a clue this time. can't believe you have the energy for aquanatal with 2 small children !!!! LIke lesley i've been feeling v tired, so glad to hear its a good sign.

I seem to remember Someone on this thread was worried like me about late babies gaining lots of weight, well, i went to the midwife this morning ( baby now 4 days overdue). was relieved to hear that the baby is unlikely to get much bigger after due date so i shouldn't worry about it getting too large for a natural delivery - hope this gives you some comfort. Although i should perhaps bear in mind this was the same woman who told me eating a pineapple would shift this baby - false hopes !
Anyway she's booked me in to see a consultant on friday who will do a membrane sweep. alarmed at this prospect - can anyone tell me if it hurts and more importantly if it works ?

Metrobaby · 13/04/2004 15:24

Lesley this is my second. I already have a dd of 3.5 years. I am wondering how she is going to take to the new baby. So far she seems to be OK about it. My sis seems to be having no problems at all with her ds and her 4 week old so maybe I am worrying about nothing.

My labour with dd started with a show in the early hours of the morning. I went to hospital, came back home only to go back to the hospital later on that night when the contractions started. I wanted to get there asap so I could have full access to the drugs. DD was born the next day. My waters didn't break until I was in the full throes of labour.

That said I too keep wondering if my waters have broken, or every time I go to the loo wonder if I will have a show.

Peppergirl I didn't have a sweep myself so I can't say.A friend of mine did however when she was overdue and said that it was painful - but I seem to remember a previous thread on it where some mumsnetters didn't find it too bad.

Lesley - forgot to say that I think extreme tiredness this late stage is completely normal.

hewlettsdaughter · 13/04/2004 15:26

Lesley, if you're looking after your 4yo for half the day and doing housework you're doing more than me! My 4yo is at nursery all this week - it's his last week before starting school next week (he's starting half-time so I will have him at home as well as the baby in the mornings).
Sorry, peppergirl, I don't know much about sweeps - but there's bound to be a previous thread that will answer your qu.

hewlettsdaughter · 13/04/2004 15:30

Think it's true that baby tends to engage earlier if it's the first.

Fennel · 13/04/2004 15:38

Peppergirl - I have ditched the children today, hence the energy! After being wide awake from 4am (why? it's not as if I'm not tired too) I lay in bed this morning telling dp he had to either take the day off or remove dd1 (aged 4) for the full day somehow or I wouldn't move out of bed. (dd2 was off to nursery anyway). am going to repeat this strategy every day til baby comes - have had enough of toddler activities, I just want to be selfish and lazy.

Fennel · 13/04/2004 15:41

I don't believe that thing Peppergirl's midwife said about babies not getting bigger after their due date. I am definitely larger than a week ago - had trouble squeezing behind the steering wheel of my van (seats won't move) today, a week ago it was no problem. I heard somewhere they put on half a pound a week at this stage.

Metrobaby · 13/04/2004 15:50

Fennel - good on you ! I don't think you are being selfish or lazy. Being at this late stage is pretty hard work. I could have throttled my DH on the weekend as he actually called me lazy as I decided to go for an afternoon nap of 1 hr! This was after being up half the night with my horrid cold, and generally feeling washed out. I think DH forgets that I am pg and expects me to carry on as normal - so I have to put down my foot too otherwise I don't think I'd get any understanding !

peppergirl · 13/04/2004 15:51

fennel,

i've heard babies gain an ounce a day at this stage so i am a bit sceptical about the midwife's advice. also my coat now refuses to zip past my bump when it did 2 days ago, although that could be due to my renewed chocolate habit.

i too feel like refusing to budge out of bed to deal with stroppy toddler. really wanted to lie to DH this morning that things were starting in an effort to keep him at home but was afraid to cry wolf.

Dolbear has been v quiet.......

Fennel · 13/04/2004 15:53

Metrobaby, snap, my DP thinks he's a total saint and martyr cos he's done more of the childcare over the endless 4 day easter holiday than I did! and cos I was admittedly extremely grumpy the whole time.

He emailed me this morning to say how lovely and peaceful it was to be back at work! (dd1 dispatched to my sister's for the day).

Fennel · 13/04/2004 15:55

Peppergirl, I have considered faking a few contractions to get more sympathy and childcare

dolbear · 13/04/2004 16:53

hello all
also having 'imaginary ' tricklings ! tirck of the mind , all this talk of babies etiing bigger , scarey , am due on friday , but basically if no action by this thursday MW is booking me in for inducement as I am ' a snug fit '
lots of BH , but no real pain as such
next door have been using a jack hammer all morning , nice
congrats to mrs D . realy chuffed for you ! and all that

peppergirl · 13/04/2004 16:57

fennel - bless your cotton socks ! - you made me laugh for the first time today,

metrobaby - sorry to hear you're having to deal with a cold as well as the pregnancy and small child to boot, you need all the rest you can get !

dolbear · 13/04/2004 21:25

still not sure what stage I am at
still have starnge pins and needles feeling on riht handside , despite babes dropping a little , the feeling has now started to spread to the whole of my left side ( bit worrying )
and before i only had it after resting on my right , now it is there almost perminantly, now v worried about serious nerve damage ( or am i panicking )

emmagee · 13/04/2004 22:30

Still here too. Really thought the baby would come at Easter, but now have resigned myself to another late one - I'm due on the 18th, both previous nearly 2 weeks late, don't know how I managed to persuade myself this one would be early. Very irritated by my mother this weekend taking dh aside and saying that it was all wishful thinking and I was probably 'imagining' the strong contractions I had on and off last week. Then asking me whether I thought it might be 'mind over matter' and that it was just because I wanted the baby out that I had all these sensations. She may be right.......but it's not the 'support' I needed!

Peppergirl, a sweep is not usually painful, I had one with both previous babies. I have an appointment already fixed for 41 weeks with consultant and will be asking for one a sit really can help.

Debbiethemum, good luck with the section, is it your first?

Debbiethemum · 14/04/2004 00:05

Thanks to those who asked, this is my 2nd, 1st was an emergency section, after inducing, with pre-eclampsia. I decided to cut out the middle bit this time and go straight for the section !!

MIL is arriving tomorrow afternoon to look after DS1 while I am in hospital & dh is with me. I should be home sometime between Sunday & Tuesday, see what happens and how much rest I get in my own room (as a c-section delivery) compared to home with housework and a toddler. But at home I do have access to Mumsnet.

My tummy is Huge at the moment, the most common question I seem to be getting is "are you expecting twins?" It's not so much that the baby will be enormous probably just over 9lb, but I am only 5ft so it just looks all out of proportion. Dh is welsh, with the broad shoulders of a rugby player so I am quite glad I don't have to push this one out.

If I don't post tomorrow, I will post again next week and see if anyone else has any news.

hewlettsdaughter · 14/04/2004 08:14

Dolbear, how are the pins and needles today? You could always mention them to your MW if you are worried. Emmagee - mothers, eh? Wonder how MrsD is getting on with hers? Don't forget to post with your news Debbiethemum (or get your dh to). Good luck for tomorrow!
