After being up half the night reading the forum ive finaly plucked up the courage to ask you guys for some advice. Bear with me its a long one but I really need to speak to people who know.

Im pregnant and going for my first scan tomorrow - at an abortion clinic. Now this was a bit of a knee jerk panic reaction however I have a feeling that Im going to be over 24 weeks. My last bleed was in april and just for 2 days but heavy. Since then ive had no more bleeding but because of being on the large side its not odd for my periods to come and go as they please. I have had absolutley no symptoms at all, no sickness, no sore boobs, nothing. Untill 2 weeks ago when I felt incredibly bloated and then wednesday when i had a leaky nipple. Took a pregnancy test on thursday and it was positive. Went to the doctors on friday and have my scan tomorrow.

Im 25, been in a relationship with my brilliant boyfriend for 5 years. But we are terrified. Currently living appart to save up for a house depoisit but I changed jobs 2 months ago and he was made redundant a month ago. Hes with his parents and im living with my nan as she sometimes needs help in the night if she falls etc.

If im correct in counting from my bleed in april that would put me at about 27 weeks.... so possibly no going back now! Which Im not entirely dissapointed about and neither is my OH, hes been lovely and less panicky than me!

My biggest issue is telling my parents. My mum is going to totaly flip and I dont want to ruin our good relationship especialy this close to christmas. Please say someone else has been in my shoes? Im so scared its going to ruin everything!!!!

Aw you guys are awesome.

Blink - I hadnt thought about writing about it. Perhaps thats not a bad idea though, I would love to reasure someone else that its not the actual end of the world.

Bloody midwife appointment is tuesday not tomorrow, good job I checked my book before I just rocked up isnt it lol

Baby has moved from my left side ( where she has spent the last 4 weeks with her feet in my ribs) to the middle.... im hoping that means shes in the right place but who knows! Its nice being able to sit on the left side of the sofa now though!

Ark
Just read your post in entirety. Nothing to really add except you're amazing. The last bit is shit, I remember it clearly. When I was sitting down it felt like I needed to sit down! oh and the self-pity!
Will be watching your thread and wishing you the very best.

Fb- that is the perfect way to explain it. I'm so tired from sitting down I've had to go to bed haha! Thank you. Hoping it's not too much longer!

I had to keep reminding myself that lots of people feel just as scared and unsure as I did, even though they'd had much more notice. Often worse in fact, as they'd had an extra 8 months for the panic to build!

As one lovely cheerful midwife told me, it's just a baby, and babies are bloody brilliant! Millions of women have babies every year without the first clue what to do with them. You'll be fine! She was so encouraging I went from a sobbing mess to 'hurrah, let's do this!' within ten minutes Grin .

I am finaly seeing a light at the end of the tunnel with things now rather than a blind hysterica panic like I was all yesterday till my DP snapped me out of it ( thank god one of us has our head screwed on). Yes we will have to go into council housing but no, its not the end of the world. We will manage and when the time is right we will buy our first house and it will all be fine.

I think.

Midwife tomorrow, shes said we will try and do a sweep. Mums taking me to sainsburys tomorrow afterwards so I can get a few bits / coo over baby girl things but shes worried my waters are going to break in the shop (someone mentioned if that happens you get free stuff though so silver lining?) and being in her car.... i think shes going to make me sit on a bin bag haha!

Any sweep tips ladies? Bit scared!

Sweep tip - just relax. If a midwife is doing it you'll probably be fine. Nowhere near as bad as a smear. I had a doctor do my first one and it was bloody agony. The midwives are much gentler and know what they're doing
Good luck!! Haha I'm sniggering at the idea of your mum rocking up, bin liner in hand!!

fb1978 · 01/12/2014 20:24

Not sure about the supermarket thing but had heard it too. I also travelled around on a waterproof mat and slept on one also.

I had at least two sweeps. Think smear test; relaxing supposedly makes it feel better. I found it unpleasant but not as bad as anticipated. Your midwife should be able to give you a good idea how dilated you are and so, in theory, how far off labour you might be. The consultant struggled to give me a sweep as my cervix wasn't favourable. This was despite my being convinced I was in early labour, hence further frustration. Just my experience though, obviously.

fb1978 · 01/12/2014 20:26

Agree completely with the midwife vs consultant sweeps, confusedandemployed!

WankingInAWinterWonderland · 01/12/2014 20:42

Good luck for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you. Xmas Smile

Arkkorox · 01/12/2014 21:30

Thank you, thankfully I have a midwife doing mine! I have never wanted to feel pains so badly in my whole life.... just something!!! anything!!!

bumpiesonamission · 02/12/2014 14:08

How did it go OP? did you get swept?!!!

Arkkorox · 02/12/2014 15:46

I did not :( There was a trainee midwife there and she would be doing it so i bottled it at the last min. I got myself in a bit of a state over it but my midwife said that as id been having on off cramps all morning she wasnt terribly worried. Plus ive got hospital on friday anyway so only a couple more days. However since then baby feels sooo low, there is a bit of pressure when i stand up! Im hoping this is a good sign!

OP posts:
bumpiesonamission · 02/12/2014 17:41

Great sign, go for a walk, walk up stairs sideways and bounce on an exercise ball!

Arkkorox · 02/12/2014 17:44

Downside of living in a bungalow, I have no stairs!! lol May get DP to escort me round the block later.

Im almost tempted to wash the kitchen floor but not quite that desperate yet lol

OP posts:
bumpiesonamission · 02/12/2014 19:41

Do it!!! I had my nails done and then cleaned the oven!! baby a day later!

Arkkorox · 02/12/2014 19:43

Having random aches and pains but nothing in one area specificaly. Some in my back, some in my hips, some on my tummy... make up your mind!

Have sex, it'll be the most unglamorous event but it'll start something please don't sue if it doesn't

confusedandemployed · 02/12/2014 21:11

Have to agree with bumpies
Minutes afterwards got my first pains at 40+12 and 24 hours from induction. Mind you I had been forcing DP into it every other day since about 39 weeks.

Arkkorox · 02/12/2014 22:03

Sadly it's persuading DP to do it that's the problem! Right now I'm up for anything!

OP posts:
bumpiesonamission · 03/12/2014 17:09

How are you feeling? Any 'action' last night?

Arkkorox · 03/12/2014 17:51

I'm being induced in about half an hour! Reduced movement so we popped into hospital and been there ever since!
