I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

basgetti My goodness, I've just got back from a day trip to Liverpool to see this! You poor thing. I can only echo what ToAvoid says about how It's awful that with 4+ ketones you haven't been admitted. I have to say thatg unfortunately indicates cuts in NHlS, as if your case isn't an emergency, what is... I just so hope the lucozade helps, with those ketones and the lack of sleep you must feel dreadful.
Glances about anxiosly...

basgetti have your cramps stopped?

I really hope that the hospital can get you in tomorrow or you can get to your parents' hospital

Hoping everyone else is having not-too-bad a time

basgetti · 05/10/2014 21:35

Yes the cramps have eased. I just feel really poorly, sort of shivery and fluey as well as sick. I spent this evening sipping lucozade and had a little bit of dinner, unfortunately I've vomited about 3 times since so nothing is staying down. Now curled up in bed hoping I might get some sleep. Ketones still 4, hopefully the MW tomorrow might do something.

Meerka · 06/10/2014 08:09

I hope you can get an early appointment, you really should be in hospital :(

can you manage to keep some paracetamol down?

Oklahoma · 06/10/2014 08:34

Morning all

Bas nothing to add to everyone else's advice, just lots of sympathy. Unless you have any way of getting a drip at home?

Sorry I've been quiet, I'm just so fed up I don't want to bring the thread down. 22 days to go...

LucindaE · 06/10/2014 08:54

Enquiring anxiously about basgetti? When is the MW seeing you?
Oklhoma You poor thing too - don't keep away from the thread because you feel down, moan all you like, that's what this thread is for. You've been brillaint in supporting others, and have every right to let off steam about the sheer misery and unfairness of this affliction.
Hope Everyone is at least feeling a miniscule bit better today...

The MW rang and she can't get to me until late afternoon now, advised me to ring hospital again. So I've just had another phone assessment and they've told me I need to come in. So I'm off to delivery suite which is apparently where I have to go first now I'm 29 weeks. I'll update when I can, thanks all x

LucindaE · 06/10/2014 10:14

basgetti I hope someone can drive you in and that they get you on that IV asap. Do keep us updated.

Please tell me that you are now being thoroughly looked after basgetti

Emsymarie · 06/10/2014 17:34

I'm sorry to read so many people have been suffering so badly, what a truly awful condition this is. I almost feel a fraud asking for advice as I'm doing well, but only due to the meds as when I've tried to lower those I have a horrendous few days! Anyway, when I picked up my prescription for promethazine last week they didn't have enough so said to pop back for the rest. Being an idiot I left it until today when I have none left for tonight, and the pharmacist said they had no record of owing me any! Honestly you'd think I was trying to score methadone the way he made me feel! Anyway, he finally gave in but they didn't have any in stock, cue me panicking. They've just delivered them to me at home and it's avomine instead of phenergan which I have been on, I'm assuming they are the same but am now terrified in case they are different, I'm so anxious about the sickness returning. Does anyone know? I think reading this back I'm being irrational actually but if we can't be irrational at times like these when can we be?! xx

Fraggle31 · 06/10/2014 19:18

Sorry to hear you are so poorly basgetti :( really hope you're in and being well looked after by now xx

GetTheRedOut · 06/10/2014 22:33

Hi everyone, been in a cocoon of sickness. Trying to cope with DSD and various family members demanding time and attention. We haven't told people I'm pregnant so am expected to carry on as normal. I've run right out of excuses not to go and see people or help with things so just going and being very ill while there which is not ideal. Have been signed off for a second week but haven't told the family so my sister called my work today wanting me to give her a lift somewhere at lunch and got my supervisor saying I was off sick. Now she's asking questions and I think I'm going to have to tell her.

Shocked at the state basgetti is in, my ketones were +4 and I was admitted straight away. Hope she's getting the meds she needs.

ToAvoidConversation · 07/10/2014 06:23

GettheRed we eventually had to tell people but really weren't planning on it. By telling a few key people we had support and more importantly local help when I needed it for doctors/hospital admissions when DH was at work.

Oklahoma · 07/10/2014 08:45

Emsy they're the same don't worry.

Red we had to tell close people in the end as it was too hard to hide. It's horrible having your hand forced though.

Meerka · 07/10/2014 09:18

basgetti how are you ? I hope you getting good treatment.

red, had the same thing as others too. Had to tell them early as well .. I couldn't go anywhere or do anything or even speak without upchucking. The second time we had to let the important people know straight away so that we could arrange childcare for our son, knowing what was coming. As avoid says (how are you? :) ) a few key people really help.

okla thinking of you. Those last days are almost the hardest.

Hope others are okay this morning

LucindaE · 07/10/2014 10:12

Emysmarie I'm so glad others have been able to reassure you about those meds being the same. You are no fraud, and I'm glad the meds are working well for you.
GettheRed It's awkward, but as others say again, women with this can't avoid letting people know early. I think if you have been so ill when they were about, some people must suspect already?
ToAvoidand Fraggle and Meerka waves.
Oklahoma I hope you saw my message saying never feel guilty about moaning on here, that's what this thread is for; I am so glad your endurance test is getting near the end.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Meerka and Lucinda thanks for the continuing support!

I feel like time has basically stopped. 3 weeks to go... Feels like 3 years!!

NoRoomForALittleOne · 07/10/2014 13:07

Sorry that I've not been around. I find that I'm at the worst stage of pregnancy for sickness and have been struggling a bit. I went to see the GP for more ondansetron and he said that he didn't have a clue how HG is managed. He prescribed me the ondansetron and put it on repeat but not until he'd asked about the cost because the cost of zofran branded tablets was about £100 for 30. I assured him that you get generic stuff that is cheaper so he just prescribed it. He didn't check BP, pulse, ketones. He simply was totally ignorant and asked questions about how I manage.

Then DD3 had her first ever vomiting bug over the weekend and was scared so vomited all over me because she wanted me to cuddle her while she was sick I don't know how I kept it together.

I've picked up my new prescription and this lot are a different brand. Am I going mad? Because they do not seem to work anywhere near as quickly nor as well. Am I just getting worse or could it be the different tablets?

LucindaE · 07/10/2014 16:03

Oh dear, NoRoom awful for both of you. You probably didn't exactly feel up to explaining to her that being sick is normally a relief...I wish I could advise about tablets, but I wonder if you have the stomach bug as well as Hyperemesis, in which case, they wouldn't work too well. I can't believe the price of Zofran. I'm suprised the doctor didn't offer to do a bit of research.
Oklahoma Hugs. You must feel really drained.
I hope basgetti is getting fluids and everyone is coping. A lot of suffering going on all round...

Sorry, NoRoom that remark comes across as a bit daft, as trying to explain things to toddlers with words is difficult at the best of times...

Massive hugs and back rubs to those having a rough old time at the moment, I wish I had more words of encouragement.

My good days far outweigh the bad now, but I wound up in hospital on Saturday with severe back pain and am now waiting for an emergency physio referral for my hypermobility. The pain isn't helping the nausea, but it has been a lot, lot worse so I'm grateful.

19 weeks to go honestly feels like a lifetime!

ToAvoidConversation · 07/10/2014 16:48

NoRoom the prescription I currently have of the Ondan is a different brand but seems to work really well. How many HG pregnancies have you gone through NoRoom? It's such a brave thing to go through multiple pgs knowing that this is likely.

I'm in a good phase just now. Sound a bit like Emsy and I'm ok unless I try to lower meds. Taking medication every 4 hours and just being sick in the mornings. Back at work too. Really hoping I'm past the worst.

Meerka · 07/10/2014 18:20

noroom what is the name on the med packet?

Meerka · 07/10/2014 18:33

when a drug (eg ondan) comes out of protection, lots of companies can make it. Often the precise make-up of the pill varies slightly though the main active ingredient stays the same. The very slight variations shouldn't make any difference to how it works, but in fact for some people it does.

Having said that, you might actually simply be having a few extra-bad days :s
