Very early days I know but would love to talk to others in same situation. This is no. 3 (no. 2 was a mere 1 week fantasy last year) so am keeping this one to myself (and all of you).

Anyone else?

Canadianmom - I would probably contact UCLH direct and ask to speak to a midwife (at least to check they have you in their system). Or keep at the GP to get you some answers. I went to GP at 4 weeks, had letter from hospital at 8 weeeks re 12 week scan. HTH

Potpourri - congratulations and welcome.

Smellymelly - had 12 week scan today and I will not be joining you with twins. I have to say I am relieved but also a little (tiny little bit) bit disappointed. Luckily all looks well.

Potpurri - congrats and glad to have you jump over from November!
Canadianmum - did you get anywhere? I saw GP at about 6 weeks and about 2 weeks after that had my dates for dating scan and booking in appt (both between 12 and 13 weeks) Given your history its suprising that the 'system' hasn't been more helpful.

Nimme - nice to have the 12 week scan out of the way, so to speak. These early weeks just seem to drag on and on......

Still tired though not as sick. Just had a peanut butter and jam sandwich (had one for lunch too!) washed down with a DC. How healthy?!I know I should stay away from the nuts, but so so yummy!

Nimme · 30/05/2004 11:49

Hana - thanks for help on other thread. I didn't know about avoiding nuts (or maybe I did and have forgotten?!) so I have been scuffing peanuts recently. Feel very deprived as I LOVE blue cheese, parmesan and raw'ish meat. B.... DH was munching Stilton at weekend.

Great to get to 12 weeks. Yes I feel like I have been pg forever already. At least the nausea is much better and I can concentrate on other things than rich tea biscuits (which I'm sure I'll never eat again!). Only another couple of weeks for your second scan?

Am going to rock boat at hospital for next scan I think. The woman who scanned me was NOT very friendly at all and actually rolled her eyes when I asked if we could hear the heartbeat. Also quite abrupt. I realise she does this day in day out but it is always special to her patients and I would have been quite upset if it had been my first time. Will be asking for someone else next time.

And lastly they have put me at 5/12 (based on last period) I have put myself at 7/12 (based on ovulation). Lets hope neither are right and we manage to squeeze this one into November (was 2 weeks early last time).

to all you suffering from morning sickness - hope it passes soon.

Canadianmom - any luck/news?

sweetmexico, so sorry to hear your news. Look after yourself at this tough time

smellymelly · 30/05/2004 16:24

Nimme - glad all is well, sorry you don't have to suffer the 2 though! (I think nuts are ok, it's peanuts they advise you to avoid nowadays, because of nut allergies in kids are becoming more common - I know a 4 year old with a nut allergy, and it is a nightmare! He can't eat things like cornflakes, etc, just because they are made in a factory where nuts are used in other foods)

I had my scan this morning - and all is well. Saw both babies heartbeats, and both are measuring exactly 8 weeks, which is great news!! We even got pictures with them both together...

Nimme · 02/06/2004 21:56

Wauv Smellymelly... Must be so exciting carrying twins. Will you ask for sex when poss or will it be a surprise (or have you had enough of those?)?

As for the peanuts - too late that's exactly what I was scoffing (boo hoo yet another thing to feel deprived of - and just now I fancy them, typical).

Met a French Mum yesterday who told me she was practically brought up on champagne, drank champagne when pg and had 1 glass of bordeaux plus 1 glass of champers every day when breastfeeding. Also ate blue cheese, pate etc when pg. Perhaps we brit/american etc are bit ott with this sort of thing. Problem is of course when you have already been told you can't forget or ignore. Once read a book that said the best thing for a pg women would be not to read anything and not listen to anyone....

Hope everybody else is okay - speak up

Hi ggglimpopo - (wow what a name!!) Sounds like you will have your hands full.

Welcome to Mumsnet - your right it is great to have this site where you can discuss stuff you couldn't or wouldn't normally...

Thought I'd killed off this thread on Tuesday when no-one else left a message!!!

Nimme · 04/06/2004 12:27

ggglimpopo - welcome and congratulations. Just read how the elephant got it's trunk, any connection? I only found this site a few months ago but am already addicted.

Smellymelly - we seem to have a very quiet thread here. I was wondering whether everybody is just feeling too crappy to post?! When telling my Mum (who is a twin) that there was only one she reminded me that that's what they told my gran all those years ago (she didn't know until the birth!).

Hopefully we'll hear more from everybody on this thread soon....

Hi. I have been absent for a while due to hectic time at work. Decided not to go on hen weekend to germany and am v glad as I spent most of today asleep. Nausea def getting better which is good as preggy pops are still sitting in the post office after two weeks! Every time I go down there the queue is down the street. I have been scoffing peanut butter on toast for last week and have now just read all comments on nuts. Not sure I will be able to kick the habit though.
Welcome ggglimpopo. Will be good to hear about the french pregnancy experience.
I have my first community midwife meeting on Wednesday and scan on Thursday. To all you experienced mums is wednesday the time to be asking about birth facilities in the hospital e.g pool etc?
Will def not stay away so long next time.
Ginger

Nimme · 05/06/2004 19:30

Ginger - hello again.

DD wasn't born in this country so in that sense I'm also new to the system. I am seeing midwife for the first time tomorrow and intend to ask her about everything - hopefully she'll be nice.....

Glad to hear the nausea is letting up. As for the nut thing: my SIL was as good as gold when pg but her DS is allergic to fish, dairy and fatally to peanuts. Some things you just can't control?!

Been reading just not posting much. Had a Japanese GCSE last week. Luckily felt OK that day- and felt very nauseous the day after so that worked out OK. Another one in just over a week- toruble is I fall asleep each evening when I should be working.

Meeting the midwife this week I think. But she left a message on my phone saying Wednesday morning which is no good as DS1 is home (1/2 term) and Wednesday morning is my cleaners time- DS1 won't let her put on the hoover so I have to take him out.

Bit preoccupied as next week we have a big meeting in school. Last one (which I thought was going to be a 5 minute chat with the ed psych- then was a bloody nightmare with lots of people) was on the day I found out was pregnant and hormomes got the better of me. This one will have about 7 people going so I'm bringing dh with me for support. Plus they listen to him more. And he's not pregnant so he'll be less emotional- can leave him to do fight the corner.

Otherwise OK. Ds1 seems to have decided to stop eating anything again.

Not thinking much about the pregnancy- too busy! Had to wear dh's pants today as all mine are too small and press on my c-section scar making it hurt. Must get out and buy some granny pants or maternity pants.

Nimme · 08/06/2004 13:12

Jimjams - you sound rushed off you feet. Being a SAHM definitely has it's advantages (even if I'm bored stupid some days). G

Got fed of with squeezing into the clothes I kept before I lost the weight from last time (sorry a bit complicated that sentence) so spent a fortune yesterday on some maternity clothes. Very nice jeans, denim skirt and some tops. As I'm only 13 weeks I still feel a bit of a fraud but want to be comfy now.

Hope all you others out there on this thread - where are you? - are okay?

I AM a SAHM Nimme!

Nimme · 08/06/2004 22:57

Oh b...... Jimjams. Obviously you have more than 1 (???) AND a very interesting life unlike me who currently worry about the builders moving in next month and what shade of white to paint

Jimjams · 08/06/2004 23:43

2 kids- but that's not the busy bit- the eldest (5 year old) is non-verbal autistic. I guess my life is interesting, but after the day I've had today I wish it wasn't!

hana · 09/06/2004 11:58

haven't been here for ages it seems. Still really quite tired most of the day, but morning sickness doesn't seem to be as bad. Just dropped dd off at nursery and am looking forward to having day to myself! But first need to go back to bed

hope everyone else is starting to feel better too

congrats to you ggglimpopo!
Nope, I'm in grey London and it's rather overcast....
will crawl back to bed (and will have no guilt!!) but first have some paperwork that I must catch up on, it's been sitting around for weeks.
Not sure the tiredness is age related - I'm 34 and can't manage a day without a nap in the afternoon, and am in bed by 8!! Have popped out too, things are very tight - at that fat stage right now when met clothes would just look silly, but def need to get some elasticated pants.

hana · 09/06/2004 12:22

pants...........I mean trousers Canadianmom will know what I'm talking about!

BoingBoingTigger · 12/06/2004 00:18

Hiya Ladies

Quick question. I am 11 weeks and am having my first scan next week.

Yep you've guessed it I can't remember a single thing, do I need to take a specimen sample??

hana · 12/06/2004 11:10

you won't need anything for the scan, just a full bladder. It's at the booking in appt with a midwife (do you have an appt for that yet? Usually around 12-13 weeks) that you will need one, but they would sort that out during the appt.
Congratulations! I'm 11 weeks too! My scan is next week.

BoingBoingTigger · 12/06/2004 18:03

Thanks Hana, altho this is my 2nd, I cant remember from the first time round.

I've already been to see the Midwife as I m/c'd earlier in the year, but I also have my next appt with MW in July (will be 16 weeks).

Congrats to you too, mine is due 23/12/04, just in time for xmas. Lovely
