Quick update from "Urgent Care" drs (fancy word for out of hours). Saw a nurse 1st who started freaking out about a CT scan and my "abnormal" pulse and swollen neck. Got sent to an experienced Dr who decided to check if the pulse was nerves, told me to breathe slowly and shut my eyes- pulse almost HALVES! He's like "yeah that's anxiety not hyperthyroidism". Thinks my thyroid is swelling because its finding the last few weeks of pregnancy tough going so over compensating hence the (soft- which is good) swelling. Told me to get the GP to arrange a routine blood test and neck ultrasound, but in most women the symptoms clear up after delivery. Didn't seem to think it would bother the baby, as by now even if it didn't grow much its of a good size and well developed. Phew.

Babytinx11 · 25/08/2014 12:44

Wow squiz all sounds very dramatic with that nurse glad your ok though

Psmith83 · 25/08/2014 14:22

Poor you Squiz! I have to say it's useful for someone like me to see someone like you who calls or goes in if they're worried, or gets an more experienced doctor for a second opinion. It's hard to be assertive, and so good to 'watch' someone who is not afraid to get what she needs.

missmakesstuff · 25/08/2014 20:41

Hi all just checking in, things ticking along here, thought I had fewer symptoms yesterday and had a little wobble but they're back today in full force, including hideous acne all over my neck, back and chin, lovely.

So sorry to hear your news jnl hope you get the help you need.

Sounds promising mrsg, how would you feel if you went into Labour before the cs? I had a planned csect and it was fine, very calm and although I really didn't want to have one, it was ok because I was expecting it.
I'm just now making plans for what I need to fit into the next week before I start back at school, there's so much! I keep worrying I've got nothing done this holiday, but then I have to remember I've been growing a small person I suppose!

Alb1 · 25/08/2014 22:39

squiz that all sounds quite stressful but I'm glad your ok!

mrsg any more progress?

I thought I may have lost my mucas plug this morning as it looked exactly as described (as in loads and jelly like) exept it was compleatly clear in colour so I'm not compleatly convinced... Can't remember who asked but this is first baby so I thought once the head was engaged it wudnt come back out but nethermind, hel be out soon enough I guess!

Just finished my final shift at work today so am now officially on maternity leave, how scary! And exciting obviously, but now that I have nothing to do exept sit back and have a baby a bit of fear has crept in, I just never thought I'd make it this far!

Hope everyone else is ok this evening

Cuppachaplz · 25/08/2014 23:16

jnl so sorry to hear your news, thinking of you x

squiz, sorry to hear the swollen neck/thyroid dramas, washing you well soon x I rather liked RL tea, and drank from about 36 weeks, at the MWs advice with DS, however he was 17d late, and born by EMCS after a 70 hour labour, so not the best advert for its apparently wondrous properties to speed up or induce labour! Sounds a little bit like the ray of sunshine friends you have have never got truly hungry! When feeding DH, I'm sure there were times when I would have eaten the cereal box itself had I not been able to put it in a bowl, and incidentally would probably have starved to death had I not as DH was working away during the week at the time. I never had any problems shopping, cooking, cleaning, getting out etc, but admittedly rocked the PJs at all hours look for a while ;) Best of luck with it all

Excuse any random typos here, think I have spotted most of them, but bump is booting the laptop up and down as I type - keep hitting the wrong keys. LOL

Cuppachaplz · 25/08/2014 23:22

whoops, in all the kicking, forgot to post my TMI-ish question (sorry).

How long should one leave an upset tummy before being worried. I have seriously not had a stomach upset since primary school, even whilst trekking and travelling through all sorts of places. However on hols last week, developed diarrhoea in the last couple of days. It started to settle on return, so stopped worrying, however it has got worse again, which means now about a week of symptoms. InTurkey I had violent stomach cramps, and would have contacted ANC had I been at home, but these stopped before I got back. My GP can be a little useless with things like this, but I am starting to worry in case of any effects on the pregnancy.

Sorry for nasty TMI question, and thanks in advance ladies :)

Babytinx11 · 26/08/2014 00:12

cuppa when not pregnant I would see my gp if it hadn't cleared up in 48 hours so probably the same when pregnant to be fair you don't want to leave it too long incase you get dehydrated

Gwlondon · 26/08/2014 00:36

I see squizita. If you want to go out everyday when baby is born then you will do it. I was out and about within the first week but I think it was more to keep the in laws happy which is why if I don't want to do it again! Glad doctor wasn't too worried.

fedupofrainydays · 26/08/2014 07:07

Any news mrsg?

squiz sounds a bit scary but hope all ok. Anxiety can do weird things to the body.

Having a stressy time at the mo. More house re baby but the two are linked as nowhere to live if this baby comes early! House is a bomb site and hadn't made as much progress as we had hoped whilst been away Sad

Can't even pack a hospital bag / clean the car seat as it's all at the bottom of the stash in the cabin at the end of our garden. Let's just hope this baby stays in til due date.

Hope you are all well. It's my last week at work today and feeling strange about it all - although very relieved as I feel so tired and enormous lugging myself round the tube and London

fedupofrainydays · 26/08/2014 07:11

Ps cuppa I would call gp to discuss - not because you should be worried about baby, but because these things should clear up and as baby says, you don't want to get dehydrated

fedupofrainydays · 26/08/2014 07:14

And alb my contractions started a day or so after my plug - also a pretty gross mucous blob!! Exciting!

liesal79 · 26/08/2014 09:27

Hi All - Just checking in,

I was signed off work for 2 weeks due to anxiety, and had to persuade the doctor not to sign me off until I go on Maternity - In December! LOL. I am back today on mornings only for the next 2 weeks and sadly, my timing is rubbish as my collegue who enjoys passing work my way is back from her 2 weeks leave and is forwarding me emails she is supposed to do!

Apprently however my boss has been checking me emails the last few weeks and is not happy about the amount of work she passes me, so that's all good! :)

I can feel baby moving around, If I am lying still, which is comforting, but I can't lie still at work! I stupidly bought a Doppler, and although we have had no probs in finding babys Hb, It takes DH 2 hours to convince me that we are listening to the babys heartbeat rather than mine! :)

I really hoped that after the 20 week scan things would get better, but no such luck it would appear - I am still a mess and really want things to be different. Movements help, but when I don't feel anything I go into a panic - I am hoping the bigger I get, the more I can feel and the more it reassures me! :) BTW I am now 23 weeks :)

CorporeSarnie · 26/08/2014 10:52

Morning all,
Had a bit of a panic this morning - noticed my leggings & short tunic dress were damp on the backside when getting off the bus with DD on way to nursery. Managed to quietly convince myself that I was leaking waters (even though last time I knew full well when waters had gone). Eventually, having dropped off DD and walked over to my office checked underwear in loos - all dry. Then considered the fact I'd had to secure DD's rain cover on her buggy, and had to stoop to do so (sigh). Seems paranoia is never far away.
Had a big day of clearing and reorganising yesterday, DD now installed (not terribly happily) in her 'big girl room', cot reassembled, new furniture mostly up. Cleaned washing machine, viakalled kitchen and vacuumed under things. Need to order new mattresses for crib and moses and new change mats (our old ones have split), wash new things and go through, wash/bin DD's old clothes and then replace the binned stuff, and finish buying anything needed for the hospital bags, but it is starting to seem very real now. Because DD came at 36 weeks, am conscious that I could have a lot less time than EDD indicates, and so a bit paranoid (again) about being less underprepared than last time (DH spent much of his pat leave cleaning and tidying the house, as we were planning to blitz the weekend after DD arrived).
Am shattered though, and incipient SPD playing up after such a busy day.

squizita · 26/08/2014 12:26

Cuppa yeah I use the 2 day rule. Pregnancy might have your defenses down and make minor ailments last longer. Rehydration stuff might be an idea- your GP can prescribe them free.

Alb Woo for fanjo snot. Wish my fanjo would release the goo. Then the baby. impatient mama

Fedup hope yours stays put till the house is sorted! Bet you're glad your tube travel days are numbered!

Liesal argh the most frustrating time is when you're far enough that you can feel a bit of movement but not big and kicky yet. Sadly you just have to ride it out!! :) Soon you'll be kicked in the bladder non stop LOL!! Grin

Good luck with the prep Corpore we had a week like that last week! DH more than me I must admit!! I can hire him out as a housekeeper if he fancies a career change. Grin Glad the wet bum was just rain.

Today I had a "you know you're late on in a medicalised pregnancy when..." moment. I only had to wait TEN MINUTES for my blood test this morning, at the clinic! Grin Left me time for a cheeky Costas.
GP agrees with calm hospital Dr... most likely it's my pregnancy burdening my thyroid slightly. But she's running the full gamut of tests even though my only symptom is a slightly swollen gland in my neck (like, you'd see it if I said it was there, but not as a stranger) to put my mind at rest. Most likely I will just 'wait and see' and let it be, but it's very reassuring they are thorough.

MrsGiraffe12 · 26/08/2014 14:10

Hi all.
Just checkin to report there's no news - I'm still pregnant. Baby seems very happy in there.
Just enjoying a day at the beach with DS today as tomorrow I'm going to relax in preparation for Thursday.
Anxious but beyond excited doesn't cover how I feel right now x

CorporeSarnie · 26/08/2014 15:25

Good news from squiz, glad to hear your docs don't think it is anything to worry about, but much better to get it all checked out and you properly reassured.
Hope you have a lovely day mrsg, sounds relaxing, and glad that you're getting some one-to-one time with DS. Can't believe you're going in Thurs - fantastic :)
liesal, I still sometimes go quite a long time without getting anything specific (30w but with anterior placenta), but sitting still with a cold sugary drink is guaranteed to ensure a performance. I think when you're busy and moving about you just notice the movements a bit less than when you're specifically paying attention to it.

SuzyBean · 26/08/2014 16:41

7 weeks for me now and morning sickness has kicked in. I'm delighted!!!! Didn't have much ms in the last 2 pregnancies which I then went on to lose but lots in my first pregnancy when I had my ds - I'm taking this as a good sign!! I've booked a viability scan at the fmc on Friday - eek!

Mrsg, good luck!! Hope you manage to relax and enjoy your last couple of days!

Babytinx11 · 26/08/2014 17:21

Exciting stuff mrsg not long to go :)

In slight need of a fish slap I think I pulled some muscles while finishing up the packing today but slightly freaking out about sharp pains when I stand up it's ok once I am standing it's just getting there lol it's only been a couple of days since my scan but this bought me back down from my postive I am having a baby space with a huge bump :( mw says it's normal and told me off for packing the house on own which wasn't my decision anyway but anyway it freaking me out :(

MrsGiraffe12 · 27/08/2014 09:28

Just having a relaxing day today, other than all the housework done today so DH doesn't have to do much whilst I'm in hospital.
Can't believe tomorrow I'll be holding my baby :-)

Cakebaker35 · 27/08/2014 09:31

So excited for you mrsg can't wait to hear all about your little bundle Smile

Babytinx11 · 27/08/2014 10:03

Good luck today mrsg hope they don't keep you waiting too long for babyg Smile

Babytinx11 · 27/08/2014 10:04

Lmao i lost a day somewhere sorry mrsg enjoy today Smile not long now

bythesea82 · 27/08/2014 10:23

Good luck for tomorrow mrsG

Was hoping my second post after saying hi wouldn't be a scared one but feeling like I need to speak to people who have been in the scared situation. Just had a scan (7 weeks) as during last pregnancy they found I only have 1 ovary so are worried in case of ectopic. Anyway, was fairly relaxed for the scan but they could see an area of bleeding. This is exactly what they saw on last 2 pregnancies which I went on to m/c. Just feeling really sad now and not hopeful that this one is going to be any better. Sorry for the negative post, just needed to say it to people who understand Sad

Cuppachaplz · 27/08/2014 11:07

Best wishes mrsg

Hugs bythesea. Fx for you; bleeding in early pregnancy not always bad news. Hoping the scan goes well xx

Very light spotting this morning, waiting for MW to call back :/. Tummy bug unchanged, doc sent sample for culture. I'm 23 w tomorrow, how worried should I be? Proper fed up of things going wrong now.

Sorry for grumpy post x
