Absolutely LOVE the name Lola but its my dogs name - considered changing the dogs name but we've had her 8 years and we keep forgetting to use another name!! DH likes Esme but i'm not entirely convinced, quite like Lyla as its similar to Lola but i'm going round in circles and getting nowhere fast. DH chose my DD's name so i want to choose this one!! Considered Lolita so i can shorten it to Lola after my dog has popped his clogs but my mum nearly fainted when i mentioned Lolita!!!

Any suggestions or views on any of the above? I actually cannot get anywhere with this muddle of names and can't seem to find any new ones either - my brain is like jelly at the mo!

cece - tell them to bugger off

Esmerelda was the very kind love interest of the man in notre dame or sommat wasnt she?

as a side, my name is a shortened version of another name, but i was christened the shortened version. my whole life people have assumed my name is the long version, and i just tell them to pay more attention or bugger off

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 15/09/2006 10:34

Io is cool.

It could be short for Iona, i suppose.

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 15/09/2006 10:35

how do you say Isla?

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 10:35

yes, ihave just googled Esmerelda, and she was the very beautiful and enchanting gypsy who Quasimodo fell in love with

so there you

hope that makes you feel slightly better, sorry if i offended you

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 10:35

really? I like that (although am never never never having any more kids, so a bit academic really)

nailpolish · 15/09/2006 10:39

its like the word 'isle' but add an 'a' on the end

i think its scottish

shawn · 15/09/2006 10:58

All my life my daughter(when I had one) was going to be Victoria, Tory for short, then we got a puppy and called her Tory Must be a very common thing to do.So she gets Vicky. Try my name, I can almost guarantee she will never meet another, I haven't in 50 years!

cece · 15/09/2006 11:04

Oh nailpolish feel a bit better now. That is obviously why DD likes it - probably in some Disney video!

Lolabelle · 15/09/2006 12:30

Interesting to hear Lola is becoming a bit over popular as inamed my first Amelia and now i thinkits practically in the top ten names despite me not hearing of 1 before her birth!! Esme is a real grower, i think i'll go for Esme as even though its growing its not common at the mo and really thats the best we can try to do i guess!!

Amber is a nice choice if you have a Ruby also - keeps it in fitting with each other but Mimi-Belle is very cute..

but will it still be 'cute' when she's 45?

Imagine if the prime minister was called Mimi-Belle...

It is lovely for a little girl though.

My friend's little girl is called Mia, but she gets called Mimi.

vickiyumyum · 15/09/2006 13:28

my dd (6 months old tomorrow ) is called Lucy Agnes Molly and we call her Lola, or ds2 (4) calls her lala molly doodah! which unfortunatley for lucy seems to be sticking, hope she doesn't hate us too much when shes older.
so i love the name lola, but dh wanted soemthign abit more traditional on the birth certificate.
mojomummy has an esme and shes a gorgeous little girl, so i always associate that name with poilte little cuties now!

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 15/09/2006 14:13

Just heard a friend has had a Zarilla

She won't get called Zarilla the Gorilla at school, then.

Poor lass!

CarolinaMoon · 15/09/2006 15:17

it's the -Belle aspect of it that's bothering me. Too much like Fifi Trixibelle Geldof.

Mimi itself is a very pretty name.

cece · 15/09/2006 16:14

How about Nina?

mazzystar · 15/09/2006 16:44

Nina is number 1 on our list if we have a girl this time. I also like Miranda but the shortenings are not very nice....,

squidgeymiller · 15/09/2006 17:22

what about coco similar-ish to lola but different enough.

Esme's lovely

bobsmum · 15/09/2006 17:37

nee naww nee nawww neee nawww - playgrounds can be cruel...

sorrell · 15/09/2006 18:19

Nina's lovely. If we discounted every name on the grounds that someone, somewhere might make fun of it, then there would be none left.

Cassoulet · 15/09/2006 18:20

How about Cynthia?
