Absolutely LOVE the name Lola but its my dogs name - considered changing the dogs name but we've had her 8 years and we keep forgetting to use another name!! DH likes Esme but i'm not entirely convinced, quite like Lyla as its similar to Lola but i'm going round in circles and getting nowhere fast. DH chose my DD's name so i want to choose this one!! Considered Lolita so i can shorten it to Lola after my dog has popped his clogs but my mum nearly fainted when i mentioned Lolita!!!

Any suggestions or views on any of the above? I actually cannot get anywhere with this muddle of names and can't seem to find any new ones either - my brain is like jelly at the mo!

elibean - was reading your thread and was going to suggest DD2's name - Talia but it's on your list it's a beautiful name I wasn't sure even when DD2 was born but I love it now and she really suits it.

Go for Talia everyone comments on it too (although my Dad still calls her Tal-Ya not Tah-lee-ah) her nickname given to her by DD1 is Tee-Tee.

Elibean · 25/09/2006 22:16

Its still on our (very short) list, SK! Lovely to hear about a Real DD called Talia....
Think its between that and Abbie at the moment, though if it worked with our surname (doesn't) I'd be tempted by Cassis for some reason....

controlfreaky2 · 25/09/2006 22:19

cassis??? really???? why not kir royale?
(some of your other ideas are lovely)

JustBeren · 25/09/2006 22:37

Ahh see this is a really easy one for me... d(almost)s came out and decided that the baby in dm's tummy was going to be called Lucy!

MrsSpoon · 25/09/2006 22:43

No sure if they have been mentioned but I like Freya, Isla and Cerys.

If I were French I might have considered the French name Lilou, appararently Vanessa Paradis has a sister called Alysson Lilou. It sounds great in French .

Otherwise my favourite names in general are:

old lady chic names:

Violet - my dd1's middle name
Iris
Pearl(e)- soon to be a revival of I'm sure - like Ruby - would consider for dd2 - think Pearl Lowe rather than greyhaired old lady.
Elsie
Betty - now coming back, like Maude!!

old maid/ fairy names:

Elfie - the girl would have to be petite/ slender, but love it! short for Elfre/ Elfrea
Faerydae (gift of the fairies - could be pronounced Farriday)
how about Mimosa the fluffy yellow flower?( Mimi for short)

others - more Jewish
Delilah
Jemima

other French wild cards:

Eglantine ( wild rose - pale pink colour - only reservation is the possible shortening to Eggy - might even be cute!)
Clementine
Amandine - like because sounds to me like Almonds
Jessamine - means Jasmine

I also read about a stylist living in Italy who called her daughter Bliss, the baby was so cute.
Names beginning in B sound soft and can be shortened to 'B' which is cute, like Belle.
my cousin is called Leah and her dd is called Esme - I like but not love it - but then I like pretty unusual names. I like Lola too, but as previously mentioned by someone else, Sarah Cox has put me off it!! - but go for it if you love it - otherwise you might regret it. It also depends on the vibe your dd will give off. Lolabelle is pretty and unusual.

Lulamum · 26/09/2006 12:36

in fact I love the name Violet so much that I'm sometimes kinda regretting I only gave it to my dd1 Lula as a middle name. I couldn't now reuse it if she has a sister as a first name? Or could I?

sweetkitty · 26/09/2006 12:46

elibean - DD1 is Abbie (offically Abigail Sadie) so you have great taste in names only thing is at each toddler group we go to theres at least another 3 Abbie's it's very popular around here, she'll probably one of about 6 at school that's one of the reasons we loved Talia very unusual but not weird IMO.

Talia is an old hebrew name meaning dew from heaven and was v popular in the US in the 1800s apparently but has fallen out of favour. (If you're like me you'll know all this).

Go for Talia

crazydazy · 26/09/2006 12:50

Maia is a nice name (prononounced My-er)

belgo · 26/09/2006 12:55

Came across a pretty name today Lilifee (I think fee is dutch for fairy, but I can't find my dutch english dictionary so can't confirm that). What do you all think of that? Is it pretty or silly?

Lulamum · 26/09/2006 15:04

would definitely go for Talia over Abby

Lolabelle · 26/09/2006 15:15

Couldn't agree more Lulamum, Lolabelle is a lovely name... ;)

Lulamum i love your suggestions, love the name Pearl but DH isn't as keen, in fact love all your suggestions. Esme is still sticking with my DH and i still ike Lola/Lila/Lula etc etc!!

CountessDracula · 26/09/2006 15:35

I know a Thalia but she has an h as you can see

Lilou is rather nice, I know a Zazou but not heard Lilou.

How about Malou - it's a swedish shortening for Marie-Louise or something like that but it is sweet in it's own right, i have a friend called Malou. (pronounced like Baloo not with teh stress on the a)

LIZS · 26/09/2006 15:43

Milou is also a European name. How about Louisa or Louise

CountessDracula · 26/09/2006 15:52

my dd = Louisa

Micku5 · 03/10/2006 22:10

Would also go for Talia (but then again I am biased as that is my dd2 name.) DH wanted Madison but there were too many Maddie's around here.

Elibean · 03/10/2006 22:28

Lilou sounds sweet in French, but in English??

Maia was one on our list, though...any more than two syllables, however nice, and it doesn't work: we have a long surname with k and z in it and it just gets too complicated.

Problem with Abbie is it does sound like its short for something, and I'm not so keen on the long versions....Talia still on list, but have to see if it suits her or not when she arrives.

Love some of the longer French names, but again - too long! These threads are great, dh gets sooo fed up with brainstorming names and I need someone to do it with

Elibean · 03/10/2006 22:29

Louise is my neice's name, she's v close to dd1. Otherwise I'd be tempted by Eloise, even though its more than 2 syllables...

Elibean · 03/10/2006 22:31

DO like Belle. Though would have to disassociate name from French DVD dd has, called Belle la Coccinelle - that particular Belle is incredibly annoying!

Do you think a Belle as well as an Eli would be too much? I think it might. As it is, we call Elia 'Elibell' from time to time (just within the family)...

SecondhandRose · 03/10/2006 22:42

Another vote for Samantha and Elizabeth here. I also love Rhiannon. Don't like names that sound like they've been made up or shortened.

vvvvvvv · 03/10/2006 22:44

a few names amber, megan, amy, emma, lilly, elise, what one do u think is the best?
