Absolutely LOVE the name Lola but its my dogs name - considered changing the dogs name but we've had her 8 years and we keep forgetting to use another name!! DH likes Esme but i'm not entirely convinced, quite like Lyla as its similar to Lola but i'm going round in circles and getting nowhere fast. DH chose my DD's name so i want to choose this one!! Considered Lolita so i can shorten it to Lola after my dog has popped his clogs but my mum nearly fainted when i mentioned Lolita!!!

Any suggestions or views on any of the above? I actually cannot get anywhere with this muddle of names and can't seem to find any new ones either - my brain is like jelly at the mo!

i met a little girl today at dd1's preschool called Summer, thought it was a lovely name, she really suited it, very smiley girl

belgo · 14/09/2006 13:22

What about Zola or Ola?

Lolabelle · 14/09/2006 13:22

Thats the thing acnebride - wantedto call my dd1 Lola but was put off my the dog thing plus everyone who knew my dog thought i was a nutter and much a si love my dd1 name (Amelia) i am struck with pure envy whenever i hear of someone who has named their daughter Lola, i get truly gutted so do i just sod it or do i go for Lila and Esme (god knows which one yet though!) and remember that anyone who knows my dog will always make a comment and when i do the birth announcement to family and close friends i won't have amillion people questioning me why i named my second born after my dog??

Laura

lemonaid · 14/09/2006 13:26

Isla?

I really don't think you can call a DD after your own dog. A close family mamber's dog you could just about get away with, perhaps.

bundle · 14/09/2006 13:26

isn't the Clapton song about a ladyboy Layla?

Piffle · 14/09/2006 13:27

lolabelle, dont cut yourself up about it

i had from day 1 liked the name Hollie for my baby, when i found out i was pg i used to speak to my bump and call her Hollie etc (daft maybe, i know)

then

my cousin had a baby 2 days before me and she called her baby Hollie. she knew i had liked the name. she did it on purpose im convinced

anyway, i couldnt call my baby the same, everyone would have said i was copying the selfish bitch of a cousin

so i had to think up another name really quickly. dh did in the end, and i like the name we chose now much better

dont stress about it, there are loads of gorgeous girls names around

muma3 · 14/09/2006 13:29

Damn that pervert book/film - cute, original AND can be shortened to Lola. Goes well with Amelia also and my surname but all is not lost as still have the Lola/Esme/Lila thing.!!

Know a Summer and love it but DH is not keen, love Sofia but not keen on it being shortened to Sophie for some reason. Quite liked Esta but DH not keen, Zol reminds me of Zola Budd too much, Lilia is cute but my best friend has a Liliana and she'll hate me forever!

God this is noe doing my head in - wish i'd of never named the bloody dog such a sweet name - could change it i guess and tell all my family but it didn't work last time and they all thought i was being ridiculous! Esme, Lila, Lola, Esta, Leni, Lolita .....why can't i just think of more of make a decision on one of these??

It might not bother you but I rather suspect there will be a large number of Lola's around what with Charlie and Lola being so popular. It may become the Sharon of its generation (no offence to any Sharons out there - its a pretty name but every other girl born in the early 70s was called it ) .

I know a Lois

MrsBadger · 14/09/2006 13:32

OK, so you love the name Lola but you have used it - you've had eight happy years of it and it's time to give a new one a chance!
Reminds me slightly of the large family mentioned on here who named their dd3 Fauna... then decided they liked it so much they used it for dd4 as well.

Meanwhile, another vote for Leila, and for what it's worth I do like Esme. Fiona has the same vowel sound as Lola too.
Maybe stop thinking about nearly-Lola names and go for something completely different?

mazzystar · 14/09/2006 13:32

Btw Lolita in the book is a nickname for Dolores.

cowmad · 14/09/2006 13:33
