Absolutely LOVE the name Lola but its my dogs name - considered changing the dogs name but we've had her 8 years and we keep forgetting to use another name!! DH likes Esme but i'm not entirely convinced, quite like Lyla as its similar to Lola but i'm going round in circles and getting nowhere fast. DH chose my DD's name so i want to choose this one!! Considered Lolita so i can shorten it to Lola after my dog has popped his clogs but my mum nearly fainted when i mentioned Lolita!!!

Any suggestions or views on any of the above? I actually cannot get anywhere with this muddle of names and can't seem to find any new ones either - my brain is like jelly at the mo!

Anais is a pretty name isn't it!
Also like Anouk...but think that name might be distroyed to tease the child, lol!

DebbsyandBibby · 17/09/2006 14:00

i love Freya good luck

chocolatemummy · 17/09/2006 14:01

my daughters called Estelle, I only know 2 more in the world, it means little star

Micku5 · 17/09/2006 14:38

Just thought I'd add my two dd's names into the mix. I didn't want names that were too common (didn't want them to be one of xx number in the class).

Finally agreed on Jadyn (3) and Talia (2 months)

i know a wee girl called Renice. Quite similar to Renee.

CarolinaMoon · 17/09/2006 18:48

Elibean, what about Miriam?

Loads of French names here (including Mirena, teehee!)

Elibean · 17/09/2006 20:40

Wow, you guys are great. Talia and Cassie are both on our possibles list, Isabelle might be too, and there are lots more pretty names amongst all those...thanks
I find SO many names that I like the sound of in French, but not so much in English. Agnes, for example - but there are loads and loads. Then there are pretty 'H' names like Holly but in French...'Olly!
Also trying to have it be of Jewish/Hebrew origin (goes with surname, and DH is Jewish, me half Jewish) though thats not as important.
Will let you know when we decide, half the battle is getting DH to agree with me

Elibean · 17/09/2006 20:41

CarolinaMoon

And Miriam is sweet in French, my French cousin is Miriam.

hattiesmum · 17/09/2006 21:50

Might as well throw my daughter's name in... She's Harriet Lily, known to us all as Hattie. My late dad was called Harry but he died before my daughter was born so she was kind of named after him.

fussymummy · 17/09/2006 23:22

I know someone who has a Lottie and they call her Lollie.

Why not wait til you have the baby and pick one from your list that suits her.

Can't name a child after a dog, and no way to Lolita!

Why not choose something completely different???

Jasmine
Zoe (means Life)
Leticia

There are so many lovely names.

If you still like Lola, why not use that as a middle name??

Happy Choosing!!!!!!!!!

i LOVE Amelie but dd was born just after that girl was killed with the same name so it kind of didn't feel right to use it.

I also like the french names....Lourdes or Lola is adorable but its been made all celeb now by madge.

I had Elize (el eez)
Leiya (as in star wars)
Elaina
but we decided on Eleanor

Elibean · 18/09/2006 11:01

Ooooh, Sorrell, rather tempted by Delilah - feels sort of rebellious, for some reason

Talia is on our list, too.

And I think I'm going to write all these down, or most of them, then see which she is when she comes out - thats good advice. No panic, after all....

Lolabelle · 18/09/2006 12:13

SO many good names!! Despite the original dog debate i am finding i am actually warming to Esme MORE than Lola now which solves the whole issue as i really don't want a common name but however i don't want it to be too out there (plus DH has limits of what i can choose!)

Rubystar i still love Mimi Belle, what about Bibi Belle or Dixie Belle as they are quite similar to yoru ideas so far?? With your dd1 being Ruby-star you can afford to choose a really funky cute name again for the second which i'm actually quite envious of!!

I love Amelie but my husband won with amelia for my DD1 but i still get a pang of jealousy when i here the name althoughi must say i have heard of a few recently so its definitely increasing i popluarity as is Lola/Lila.

haven't read whole thread but see you are still going on it - what about calling dd2 Lolabelle, you then have the choice of belle ( very sweet) or lola ( when dog has popped cloggs) or the whole thing which i think is really sweet name - ooh name threads always make me want more los to name!

Lolabelle · 18/09/2006 13:26

Love Lolabelle - trying to persuade the husband as hes not sure it goes with my dd1's name Amelia, this is a reaaly long tgread isn't it but its helped me LOADS and a few others have sought clarification so glad i started it!!

mummydoc · 18/09/2006 13:31

well i think Amelia and Lolabelle sounds gorgeous ! And loads of derivitives ...Milly and Lola, Milly and Belle, Lilly ( from Amelia) and Lola, Lilly and Belle, or if you like the "a" sound at hte end Amelia and Bella ( from belle) the possibilities are endless...good luck choosing and good luck with new baby

Lolabelle · 18/09/2006 13:32

Thanks!! Food for thought....

i know but partner doesn't like mimi-belle, he's a night mare and will not help with the naming just disagrees with me, am trying to convince him right now! ha ha
what do you call amelia, any shorter names ? and wahts her middle name? like mummydoc was saying bella then you can call her belle.
we are having night mare as don't know the sex of baby, when is baby due, can it have anything to do with the month, i chose star as near xmas and the night i was thinking of names the sky was full of stars, this one is also xmas baby so think belle is appropiate, god its so hard this naming business!!

thelittlestboho · 21/09/2006 14:11

Lolabelle,
go for Lola, it doesn't matter about your dog being called that name too, alter the dog's name slightly to Lolly or Shola, (one of mine is named this). I'm animal mad and have only ever picked lovely names for them over the years, Echo, Circe, Milo, Manu, Skye, Tiree, Arran, Luka, Shola, Bo, LeeLoo, Lola, Lily, Hamish, Phoebe, Ava, the list goes on and on..

I, due to get my amnio test results next week,we will be asking the gender and have shortlisted a few names thus far.

BOYS
Noah
Timo
Skye

GIRL
Soleil
Anouk
Oran

My two DD, 17 and 12, have boys names,Levi and Tyler, which they both adore, despite people TRYING make fun of them over the years.

Dance to the beat of your own drum Sweetie.

I've named my beautiful little daughter Lula Violet. I love the name Lula, it means 'pearl' in Arabic and is also a dimunitive of Louise, my middle name. Apparently Lula is a name that was very popular about 100 years ago in the States, like Violet it's coming back over there, it's quite country/southern belle. Another fact about it is that Holly Golightly of Breakfast at Tiffany's more naiive poor Texan alterego was called Lula Mae. There's also a very charming fashion magasine by this name.I love it, it sounds soft and charming, but also a bit rough and country around the edges!! if that's possible!
