Absolutely LOVE the name Lola but its my dogs name - considered changing the dogs name but we've had her 8 years and we keep forgetting to use another name!! DH likes Esme but i'm not entirely convinced, quite like Lyla as its similar to Lola but i'm going round in circles and getting nowhere fast. DH chose my DD's name so i want to choose this one!! Considered Lolita so i can shorten it to Lola after my dog has popped his clogs but my mum nearly fainted when i mentioned Lolita!!!

Any suggestions or views on any of the above? I actually cannot get anywhere with this muddle of names and can't seem to find any new ones either - my brain is like jelly at the mo!

Lotta is also short for Lieselotte.

mazzystar · 14/09/2006 15:38

Oh, Piffle, please tell me those 150 boy's names. Can think of loads of girls but none for boys.

CountessDracula · 14/09/2006 15:40

Surely Lotta will be v popular soon as in Charlie and Lola? (and Lola for that matter)

siang · 14/09/2006 15:40

i like the name laila but it is quite common i like quite unusual names i called my daughters Hope and Freya-Mai

Astrophe · 14/09/2006 15:41

We had the same dilemma re. the dogs name thing. Of our two fave names, one was the cat (Rose) and one was MILs dog (holly). So we settled on Lucia (Loo-see-ya), and Lily was our second choice.

If DS had have been a girl he would have been Ilya, which I just love (although its actually a Russian boys' name ), its pretty and unusual, without being 'weird'.

I also like Esme, Edie and Evie.

hitchcock · 14/09/2006 15:44

my dd is called felicity or fliss for short dont know what you all think of the name but people seem to like it (well to my face at least)

lemonaid · 14/09/2006 15:44

colours and flowers would be out anyway

Hmmm... deduce that PeachyClairHasBadHair 's last name may be v similar to DH's as this is the problem we have too when it comes to girls' names. Is Isla out for you too?

Piffle · 14/09/2006 15:45

not quite...
I have a million girls names, but only ONE for a boy

Astrophe · 14/09/2006 15:47

I like Felicity, its really pretty.

Astrophe · 14/09/2006 15:48

what sort of names do you ike Piffle? number of sylables? other kids names? then we can get brainstorming...

Lolabelle · 14/09/2006 16:21

Love Esme still ,can't have Edie or Phoebe as clashes badly with my surname (similar to Beagle) but that dog situation just iritates me!! WHY did i waste a nice name on a dog???!! Love Esther but Rantzen women bothers DH - like Camille but DH won't tolerate it!! Eva's nice, like Iris but as DD is Amelia wanted something to go well with it - liked Livia but so similar to Olivia and now that is quite popular isn't it?? Quite like something original still, not too original like Apple but not in the top 20 list!! God i'm ridiculous - why can't i just decide on at least two???!!

Esther?

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 16:54

I really like Esme. I have a Saskia already and am thinking of Skyla if it's another girl, what do people think of that?? I like it but other's keep putting me off! I also like Summer, but don't really have any other ideas!!

belgo · 14/09/2006 16:55

Skyla is lovely, so is Sky

SassiLils · 14/09/2006 16:58

Thanks Belgo, that has made my mind up It was Minie drivers character in 'Good Will hunting' I've like it all those years, it's dutch too, like Saskia. DP and I both knew a girl at scholl called Skye and she was such a dirty slapper though

I reckon Lolabelle should go for Lola, you'll always wish you had once the dog has snuffed it! sorry it sounds harsh

sancerre · 14/09/2006 17:50

hollyhobbie · 14/09/2006 17:53

Some people I used to know named their daughter "Leeloo" (though maybe they spelled it differently, Leelu? Lilu?) after Mila Jovovich's character in the movie 'The 5th Element'.
It's a lovely name. especially as the girl is half French and it has a really nice French sound to it, IYKWIM.

NotAnOtter · 14/09/2006 18:00

esme is beautiful as is dorothea
My pet name is mimi!
I am not as enamoured of the Lola .Leyla, lila thing as its all a bit 'now'
Bea is adorable

cece · 14/09/2006 18:11
