June people! we are hopeless! Even the April lot manage to post now & again... (though they are probably on mat. leave by now) Do you realise no one has posted on the old thread for nearly a week?!

OP posts:

Thanks for doing that Secur - think it will be really interesting to look back on. I've been thinking that I might print out the June threads but think I might mentally scar if not ds1, then dd1 for maligning her so much!

Ooo, might have a guess at weight then, seeing that others have. Don't they say the second one is usually heavier (dd1 was 8lbs 6ozs)? Well I was told that babe had a fat tummy but mw, as far as she could tell, thought about 3 weeks ago that he wasn't particularly big so I'll guess 8lbs 9ozs. (My brother was 12lbs at birth which I find particularly frightening, especially as my mum had a natural no drugs delivery - yikes, hope it doesn't run in the family!)

Well I think I did confidently predict me but I'm having doubts now and will got for Gomez. Karen does deserve to but Gomez is in loads of pain so maybe it would be good for her. Actually I'm thinking if anyone comes near me with a sharp object today it's gonna be me, I'm so bloated. Oh God better go and pick up dd1. I'm late!

Take care and thanks.

Actually, I don't seem to have any swelling... instead I'm just FAT.
I'm revising my guess of when my baby will come, make it 14-17 June. Just enough days over official EDD to send me into needless panic.

think I'll stick my neck out and say boy (that's what the scan says but somehow I don't believe it - will see next week) and I reckon 9lb 2oz, slightly smaller than no2 (9lb 4). But if I am truthful, I reckon it might be a girl and that the scan could be wrong. Oh and Gomez, I have that attractive 'pelted with cottage cheese' look on my thighs and bum too - HIDEOUS

karen01 · 22/04/2004 23:16

As for the weight of babs at birth I reckon 7lb6oz. (only because consultant said between 7 and 8lb today)

Bogwoppit · 23/04/2004 00:34

due 14th june. don't know sex. waiting for scan date to se eif placenta has moved.

then hoping for HB, but just heard a rumour that calderdale are stopping homebirth service?!?!

monkeygirl · 23/04/2004 14:29

Even my elderly mil and sil are getting in on the act - they're having a quiet bet together on what db's name is going to be. I'd wish they'd tell me cos I have absolutely no idea. I saw your other thread Secur, but I'm afraid I know next to nothing about Welsh-type names. However I must admit that I would be able to draw up quite a reasonable girls' names list I like. But I am completely stuck for any boys' names I like! (BTW we seem to nearly all being having boys - must have been a lot of testosterone in the air last autumn )

Bogwoppit · 23/04/2004 15:21

well it seems the rumour is true. calderdale has stopped home birth service due to lack of staff.

so no HB for me unless something changes between now & June.

monkeygirl · 23/04/2004 15:24

That's really sad that you can't have the birth experience of your choice - do they have any birth centres or similar which you could go to instead? Not the same I know but better than the full-on hospital experience.

Gomez · 23/04/2004 15:25

Bloody hell - go away for a day and boards goes mad, well mad for us anyway!

Karen - more hugs honey but sorry not sure what to say. Except feel free to rant and moan on here at will!!

Got a call from NCT today - should have started classes on Tuesday, got a wee bit mixed-up. Although on number 2 am hoping to make some pals as only moved to this area last summer. Will need to make sure we are there this Tuesday.

Right I am going for a 9 and a half pounder (DD 9lb 9ox but just don't feel as big - ha, ha) and I reckon that skara will pop first?!

Bye

Gomez · 23/04/2004 15:28

Oh Bogwoppit - sorry!! Surely thou' they must be able to support it somehow. Have you spoken with the Superindent Midwife (I think that is the posh title) at your nearest healthboard and asked what alternatives they will now have in place? Might be worth a try??

Bogwoppit · 23/04/2004 15:30

am booked into the midwife led unit which is all private rooms. Had ds there.

only one birth pool tho & I had hoped for a water birth this time round.

might still hire one for late preg & early labour.

might just ring & say I'm in labour & I ain't moving so they have to send someone!

just need someone to have ds at short notice now. no nearby rellies & friends all work.

Gomez, eek, don't make me first, I'm too feeble to be first - prefer lurking in the background un-noticed!

BW, are you on the ukmidwifery list? They might be able to help, but ultimately AIMS will get you your HB if you want one - [email protected] or call 0870 7651433 and discuss it (you probably know this already though). My NHS trust are hopeless when it comes to HBs but I couldn't face the fight - nor do I want to give birth according to their protocol - so booked an independent midwife who is lovely. But no holiday for us this year ;-)

Oh and my feet are now swollen which looks lovely with treetrunk ankles and flip flops...

Cavy · 24/04/2004 10:30

Bogwoppit: Please do not take No for an answer on the homebirth issue! You have a right to be attended by a qualified MW in the place of your choosing for the birth, that's how it is. Or rather, MWs have a professional duty to make sure you have a qualified MW to attend you if you ask for one, wherever you are in labour. Please phone AIMS.

Sorry, I'm going to stay anon. about where I live because I know other people on MN who don't know who I am, IYSWIM. I found the cheap BBjorn carrier in a charity shop in Norfolk, actually, in a weekend away from home, what luck, eh?!

Now, some of my vital statistics I will reveal
Prepregnancy, bosom-waist-hips: (approx). 39"-28"-37".
33 weeks pregnant, bosom-belly-bum: 43"-39"-42".
An almost prefect barrel-shape, says DH! Anyone else willing to share?

monkeygirl · 24/04/2004 12:06

Oh my God Cavy, I don't think I could get a tape measure round my bump at the moment - hang on

pre-pregnancy: couldn't tell you although I do know my waist hasn't seen the 20s for a long long long time.

33+2 wks pg: 46.5"- aaargh I've just fainted! My belly is BIG, I just don't think I can get my fingers to type the numbers out - 46.5"

Does that make me the more perfect (supersize) barrel

As for thigh size and weight, please let's not even go there.

Gomez · 24/04/2004 19:40

Cavy & Monkeygirl you are both evil but I couldn't resist and now I am sad...

(Pre-prego)

Boobs 44 (40)
Belly/Waist 50 (32ish)
Hips 46 (40/42)

Can I just say in my defence I am 34.5 weeks and have got a really low pointy bump which will be adversly effecting both my belly and hip measurements - okay that is a bollocks excuse, I am a bona-fide porker.

May I adjust my guesstimate for birth weight to about a 14lbs - and book a c-section!!!

monkeygirl · 25/04/2004 11:21

Hee hee Gomez I still beat you. Hang on, I'm not meant to be proud of this am I!

lazyeye · 26/04/2004 15:14

Hi girls. Not joining in measuring thing. Lets just say am size of two small houses.

Okay, 28 week bloods just came back (have been on hols) and now 31+ weeks, but anyway, am anaemic. Have had this in last 2 pgs but iron tabs really upset my tummy.......any other suggestions??

Also, maybe as part of this, am chronically tired come 7.30-8ish once kids are in bed. CANNOT stay awake even for Corrie, but wake up feeling SHIT. Like I've had 10 pints.......anyone else?

Hope you are all well. Not too long now girls, esp for those of you in early June.

monkeygirl · 27/04/2004 10:14

Hello me again - hope everyone is ok. I know some of you will be giving up work soon - does that mean you won't have access to the internet? That would be awful as we're just getting to the exciting bit now - well hopefully.

Lazyeye, I alternate between being quite energetic and feeling like the living dead, although I'm finding I can do less and less, especially going for longish walks and shopping trips. It takes me ages to recover from anything vaguely energetic now. Lots of red meat and dried apricots (but not together - yeuck) should give you a good shot of iron, if you can face it. Can't remember what other foods are a good source.

I've a major stressful summit coming up (both set of in-laws for dd1's 3rd birthday) in 10 days and I need to do a MAJOR clean in the whole flat, which I am dreading - not my favourite occupation anyway. Has to be done though as my mum is obsessed by cleanliness, to the point of a disorder. I'm feeling stressed just at the thought of everyone coming.
Bogwoppit - anymore progress on you home birth dilemma?

For iron, Floradix (health food shops) and Spatone (Boots?). I've heard Spatone is 'better', but I liked Floradix ok. Spinach is bad because of oxalic acid that makes the iron in it unavailable to your body (chemistry thing).

I'm not taking any supplements. I'm eating a lot more eggs and meat this time, and I'm pretty sure I'm much less anemic than I was in either of my previous pregnancies. Then again, morning sickness didn't make me malnourished in the first 3 months of this pregnancy, unlike the other times, either!
