There seems to be an anti-home birth theme going on in this month and quite a few with low iron levels. I looked at my iron level (the figures have never meant anything to me before) and they're 268 so I guess that's quite good!! Don't know why though, I don't eat much red meat, is there any in chocolate

Secur, I hope they don't cheat you out of a home birth - fingers crossed for you as well - and give them hell!

karen01 · 27/04/2004 22:38

Hi all, I wouldnt have a clue about pre measurements my guess would be big (size 18) have only put on 1.5stones sofar so doing fairly well as in first pg put on 4.5stone.

Have had a tummy bug over the weekend with really bad stomach cramps so went to the doctor to be on the safe side. Was only the bug thankfully. dad was admitted back into hospital awaitng results of his MRI after more fits!! they say it isn't epilepsy, and i woke up this morning to find my right knee twice the size of my left so another trip to the DRs to be asked if I had been doing any sports that involved running in the last couple of days!!! yeah dream on!!! It is a build up of fluid and I am to give it a week if it doesn't go down or it gets worse and more painfull i am to go back to get it bled!! JOY!!!!.
On the plus side DH is back in 17 sleeps YEAH
Hope everyone else is okay just think on sat we can say our baby is due next month!!! How exciting

cathncait · 28/04/2004 07:00

Hi everyone, sorry to have been so silent - just am buggered really. Things haven't exactly been all roses round here. Dh has now since having kidney cancer (all clear now) with a few minor but painful complications (such as infections and gout0 has been diagnosed with chronic fatigue. So just when I need him most and am getting really tired and crap myself - he goes and becomes useless! Arggghhh.
on the other hand everything is going well with the pregnancy - I am the size of a house! I don't know my measurements but am sure I'm bigger than with dd. have only 6 1/2 weeks to go and am feeling a bit overwehlmed with it all. Not really ready for it all yet - sleepless nights again, consatnt feeding etc. But I am also a bit excited to see this new little person soon.
So...from now I will try and post more regularly...i will try anyway! thinking of you all. Cath

Skara · 28/04/2004 07:42

Hi all, have been trying to beat solicitors into submission over house sale but getting nowhere fast, hence being so quiet. Looks like we have option a) move about a week before the due date and have home birth surrounded by boxes and minor chaos, or option b) move after the baby is born, have home birth in house that doesn't feel like ours anymore and then have to deal with house move with 2 children and a newborn. Oh joy...
Have measured myself and have the delightful silhouette of a 44-42-46 goddess. Ah well, bf will get rid of all the flab eventually...
Cath, sorry to hear about your dh and I can imagine how you're feeling - is there anyone who can take dd now and then, just so you can have a bit of a rest?
Secur, contact AIMS - 0870 7651433 - I know I sound like a stuck record but that is the biggest pile of b*llocks from your midwife. She can't cancel your HB because you decline a test. Grrr.

Bogwoppit · 28/04/2004 10:47

Have got an appt with my m/w on tues so will bring up HB topic then. got my 34 weeks scan next fri aft to check placenta has moved up.

going to a HB support group meeting tonight with both my personal & NCT interests in the discussion.

was in the paper last night. staff shortages - community mw have to cover MLU @ hosp.
but htis was one of reasons for HB - cos I felt very ignored while in MLU with DS because it was so busy.

will see how scan goes on fri (ocs if it hasn't moved it's csection time anyway) then I'll be onto AIMS, PCT etc.

Karen01 - sounds very scary that form Sat we can say we are due next month!

monkeygirl · 28/04/2004 14:07

Cathncait - sorry to hear about your dh - I wasn't pregnant at the time but about 18 months ago my dh did his back in and could do nothing for nearly 8 months expect lie on the floor while I looked after a baby and the house so know how frustrating it can be. Is there anything they can do to help him? Hope you can get help from others anyway - use them all!

I saw my mw for 34 week check. Waited for the sizeist comment and sure enough she brought it up again (get over it love, I can't do anything about it now!). She seems so incredulous that I do not have major problems (my bp has stayed exactly the same since the beginning) and even said to my dd 'are you going to grow up tall and slim'? Is she already trying to give her a weight complex??? She also couldn't seem to locate babe but decided in the end he was oblique - yikes! I'll be on all fours soon.

Is it really May on Saturday - yes that is very scary but although my preparations are no way finished my body is now definitely fed-up with being pregnant.

Secur, I'll be here with you till the end probably - due date 27th though moved a bit to 25th but ds2 was 10 days late. Ho hum.......it'll be lovely to hear the birth stories coming in.

karen01 · 28/04/2004 17:33

Hi all

Browsing on the Due jan 05 thread i found a site one of the girls has shortcutted!! Madame Zaritskas reading!! (don't know how to get it across) It is quite entertaining for a laugh.
I will try I have copied and pasted it.

sheknows.com/inside/look/736.htm

Apparantly the day i deliver it will be a rainy day, I will deliver the baby in the evening after a 2hr labour (that I can cope with I think ) Baby will be a boy and weigh 8lb 8oz be 20 - 1/2inches long have green eyes and be bald.!!!

Give it a go and lets give each other a giggle. Not long then we find out how true she was!!!!

Gomez · 28/04/2004 18:01

Thanks Karen what a hoot - I will apparently have a 10 hour labour on an overcast day, delivering in the afternoon. Baby will be a boy who weighs 6lb 9oz and is 17.5 inches long with blue eyes and a patch of brown hair. Mmmmmm.......... we will see!!

Anyway good luck to all those who need it with the home birth fight... but if you chose not to go to the hospital what exactly can 'they' do about it?

Cathncait - sory to hear you about your DH can they offer him any help? And are you able to arrange any help for yourself?

Monkeylady HB levels of 268 sound like a dream to me. I booked with 120, dropped to 82 and am slowly getting them back up again. I have tried both Floradix (which you can double dose if needs be) and Spatone (in orange juice) but only managed to hold levels steady for a wee while. Have now given in and started ferrous suphate tablet, am taking with lots of orange juice and fibre and have not had any problems yet. Got v. bad constipation before with them so am really surpised.

My pelvis is still killing me but am swimming (well kinda floating about pool) each day, spending a fortune on osteopath and just about managing to keep mobile. And only 5 weeks to go, hee, hee I am so excited and I just can't hide etc.

Take care ladies

Skara · 28/04/2004 20:35

Okay, I have finally lost it - just did the prediction thingie and it has convinced me I have to go have this scan on Friday to confirm the placenta has moved and find out for sure the sex - look at this (eek!)

"The day you deliver, outside will be warm. Your baby will arrive in the early evening.

After a labor lasting approximately 16 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 10 pounds, 14 ounces, and will be 21-1/2 inches long. This child will have light blue eyes and some very fine hair."

I keep joking it's going to be an 11lb baby; maybe I'm psychic

Skara · 28/04/2004 20:39

OOh and I'm really excited too - never been excited pre-baby before, cos no1 was unexpected, we knew nothing about babies, and were petrified that life was over forever. No2 came after a really really bad patch in our marriage so was born under a bit of a cloud with dh in the doghouse and me resenting him for being such an arse. So no3, although unplanned, is much wanted, we know how lovely our other two are and we are both looking forward to it arriving - and I'm sooooo excited

Btw watched Cutting It last night and would quite like a v short, relatively painless and very clean home birth like wot she had...wonder if I can put in requests to Madame Zaritska?

monkeygirl · 28/04/2004 21:25

What a fantastic site Karen (I love the list of animals you last saw - ocelet anyone?) - this is my prediction:

The day you deliver, outside will be sunny. Your baby will arrive in the afternoon. After a labor lasting approximately 16 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and will be 22 inches long. This child will have hazel eyes and dark hair.

Although I'm not impressed with the 16 hour labour bit, spookily I have hazel eyes and dark hair (cue Twilight Zone music). Mind you at the moment I have more faith in Madame Zaritska than I do in my MW.

Gomez - excuse my ignorance but why are low iron levels bad anyway (apart from making you more tired than usual)? Sounds like you are having a bit of a nightmare but I guess you will find out soon if you are going to have a cs in May??

Skara that pre-baby excitement is great isn't it? I am as well but must admit it doesn't yet match that first time for me, probably because then it was planned and all so strange and I had plenty of time to be selfish and indulge myself and everyone else was so excited on my behalf. But it is weird to think that they'll be another little personality in the flat soon. Now I'm getting scared...

The day you deliver, outside will be cloudy. Your baby will arrive in the morning.

After a labor lasting approximately 2 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 11 ounces, and will be 19 inches long. This child will have light blue eyes and some very fine hair.

I still have no inkling - thought it was a boy then had scan & came away thinkin git was a girl, now I'm back to boy again.
I might try & find out at my 34 weeks scan next fri!

reckon it'll be big. ds was 8lb 5. I'm going for about 8lb11. bump is measuring big at the moment too. people keep asking if I'm sure it's not twins!

As for dates - well if I have to keep walking up the hill out of my estate & back while they resurface I shall be going into labour befor the weekend is out!
not looking forward to tomorrow - worked out I'll be up & down 7 times!

Bogwoppit · 29/04/2004 10:23

she's not right consistent is she - just put in sam einfo & got this

The day you deliver, outside will be foggy. Your baby will arrive in the evening.

After a labor lasting approximately 2 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and will be 19 inches long. This child will have dark brown eyes and some very fine hair.

migh texplain why I ma so indecisive over sex!

Morning,

Lovely day here and feeling quite chirpy. Possibly because DH took DD to Nursery this morning so nice long lie. Got Uni this afternoon, only 2 more weeks after this one and 1 essay so nearly there.

Monkeygirl, for me anyway low HB levels make me feel awful, tired, dizzy, breathless - I am sure you get the picture! Unless they are extremely low they cause no real harm to babies. There are two sides to the argument for delivery:

(1) Low HB levels are more likely to make you haemorrage post-natally or (2) That is nonsense and there is no connnection!! In fact decreased HB levels may be an indicator of super-efficient placental funtion and huge greedy baby!

The magic level of 10 is the cut-off to 'allow' a home birth so if you want to go that way you need to keep them up - hence Secur's worries! And potential consipation......nice; (But honestly Secur try taking tabs with food and drink gallons of OJ and see if it works for you. I have been surprisingly fine after suffering agonies last time I took the tablets.)

For me I had a PPH after DD and needed a large transfusion hence panic by midwives at thought of me going into deliver with low HB.

C-section out window now (well as far as I am concerned) since baby 'appears' to be head down and raring to go - I can only presume consultant will agree on 14th May when I see him. I really would like a VBAC but hey who knows!

Right catch you all later.

Oh nearly forgot some good news for me - DH is changing position at work and will get substantial pay increase in August - just in time for me going onto SMP. Also makes part-time work next year look like a more realistic proposition too!!!

Hi everyone... great news, Gomez, about your DH. Haven't posted for a while partly through lack of opportunity but also because all I seem to do is moan (although on the surface I have b*gger all to moan about) & some of you (Karen, Cathncait) actually have real problems...alternate between being really excited & very down & tearful, & worried about being able to cope. DS (2.7) is really active & demanding (even as a tiny baby he was an attention sponge) & if no2 is anything like that I don't know what I'm going to do. The other night I attempted - not unreasonably, I think - to clean the sink & the loo while DS was in the bath but he immediately started acting up. If he's like that when I doing a spot of cleaning, what on earth is he going to do when I'm trying to look after a baby??! (Advice welcomed from those of you who already have 2+ kids).
Also, DH is booking us up for summer social events left, right & centre & is annoyed when i say it may be difficult! Eg a wedding on 24 July when no2 will be 6 wks tops. (I had loads of problems bfeeding DS so am anticipating the same this time). I've never even met the woman who's getting married (colleague of DH). Have told him I won't go as I will probably end up spending the day in the loo, expressing (when I'm not pushing the pram up & down outside of course). It means I'll be at home alone with DS & baby but at least I won't have to try to look nice...

As to iron...I was feeling awful but my HB was 11 (with pregnacare supplement) & they don't treat it over 10.5. Started eating a lot more red meat & it DID help. MW yesterday suggested Floradix so i think I'll try that too.

Skara: my brother recently moved from London back to the north-east - SIL was already working up there & commuting back at weekends - but their house sale was taking forever, despite endless calls to the solicitors. (My bro was looking after their 2 kids on his own). This went on for months until one day my bro woke up to find the estate agent on his doorstep saying he had to exchange by that afternoon & complete in a week! His MIL came & took the kids up north so he could pack up, & they - just - did it. he wasn't pregnant though

It's weird, although I know how much it hurts, I'm not panicking as much as I thought I would about the birth. Is this Mother Nature being a b*tch again?!

I finish work next Friday - yea!

Blimey, I only checked this thread late last night and come back to loads more - is this a record for us June lot?

Gomez, great news about your dh - hope you do get to work p/t (if that's what you want of course). I know everyone's situation is different, but it is amazing what you can manage on, although you might have to forget about the fancy holidays in the Caribbean and the Jimmy Choos (yeah that was my love pre-babies - not!)

SD - I had terrible problems bf first time round but managed somehow to drag it to 4 months, although I always hated it (and I never got mastitis and saw several bf councellors). How long did you do it for? I will try again this time but am also not looking forward to it. Part of it for me is fear/hatred of bf in public, even when I tried draping scarves etc to hide myself. I blame my parents for making me so repressed! Remind me all, I can drink can't I when I'm bf?? I've been having swigs of dh's beer and wine when in the kitchen but am really looking forward to guzzling a few now.

Let's try and keep up a thread afterwards to swap toddler problems and tips. My dd (3 in 2 weeks) also needs a lot of constant attention from me and dh, and although she has said that she will share some things with her new baby bro, she told me today that he would have to sleep in her bed and she would sleep with us - and she hates sleeping with us normally. There may be trouble ahead...
