June people! we are hopeless! Even the April lot manage to post now & again... (though they are probably on mat. leave by now) Do you realise no one has posted on the old thread for nearly a week?!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
monkeygirl · 09/04/2004 23:10

Well I'm worried that Gomez will trump me now with talk of a c-section in May - but I hope not to beat that! My mw told me that she didn't think my baby was particularly big but it would be hard to tell with me - guess that was this week's sizeist comment. I think she'll be disappointed if I don't produce a 12 pounder and have to be induced just to justify her disapproval of us, ahem, larger ladies. (btw my brother was a 12 pounder delivered naturally - ouch! Now in his 40s he's still very slim and not particularly tall).

If you do have a big baby Skara the chances are s/he will be more intelligent and healthier than the smaller babes, or so I have read, so it will be worth it!

Skara · 09/04/2004 23:46

Grrr, one of the midwives I had in my first (hospital) birth with dd said as I was lying on a bed being poked and prodded to assess her position 'well, it's hard to tell, cos there is so much of you...' I was convinced she'd be massive but she was only 6lb 15oz! And to think I didn't gain as much weight that time...lucky my midwife now wouldn't dream of being such a rude old bag.
DS was big, but I didn't expect it - think the mw thought that having him at home, if I knew he was big I'd run screaming into the nearest hospital asking for a general anaesthetic This time my pelvic floor is so shot that I reckon a 14lb baby would just scoot out. (Have just nearly peed myself laughing reading the anti-broodiness thread!)

monkeygirl · 11/04/2004 19:34

Yes, doing those pelvic exercises is a bit of a pain in the a**e and hard to remember sometimes. I have been spurred on more recently though since my friend has been telling me all about her prolapse and associated problems (gulp).

Not much more to report - just wanted to bump this up. I reckon I've done my last long distance driving trip today before the birth cos I'm too scared to do another one - how cowardly is that. It's just my strange phobia about being too far from the hospital even though I still officially have 8 weeks to go. Still, don't fancy having some passing policemen delivering my baby beside the road as happened a few days ago to someone.

The nesting has now truly kicked in big style...

Skara · 11/04/2004 21:16

Know what you mean about the nesting...this weekend I've sorted and washed every item of small baby clothing (apart from the inevitable pile of stuff which has acquired those mysterious yellow stains in storage - how???) and in a fit of mania/nesting/guilt at lack of preparation for the child-who-will-have-no-name I have ironed it all. Hope nameless doesn't expect the luxury treatment more than this once, cos I don't iron childrens clothes as a rule and certainly not vests and sleepsuits However I feel all smug and virtuous, and no3 can at least put on clean, smooth hand-me-downs!

monkeygirl · 13/04/2004 10:13

They sound just like mine! Where do those bloody yellow marks come from?? I'm a bit crap at laundry (and most household duties really or should that say lazy) so I've thrown out the marked things (terrible waste I know) and will also do my one and only iron of baby clothes after having washed them.

I have also finally ordered a cot (went for the bedside one after much agonising) and a mattress and am even thinking about buying all those lovely disposable knickers and sanitary towels for my hospital bag. I think it's because my friend has just had a baby and so it is focusing my mind a bit.

I'm also beginning to really start to become more and more immobile at nearly 32 weeks and so sweaty when I go out for a walk (very attractive). Is everyone finding this or am I peaking a bit too early??

Gomez · 13/04/2004 17:24

Hi All,

I am much impressed with all you washing/ironing etc. We have still not managed to organise much except the pram. Spare room / Nursery still a building site. Cot etc. from DD still at PsIL. Did managed to buy sanitary towels on special offer in Sainsburys yesterday - does that count?

Had BILs wedding on Saturday which was okay to be fair - given I looked like an Easter Egg, was waddling and couldn't really indulge in a medicinal G&T or 2. DD was flower girl and looked gorgeous even if I say so myself.

Monkeygirl I too am sweating and and looking lovely at the slightest physical exertion - still got 7 weeks to go so can't wait until mid/end May when I will be looking lovely!

Right of to do some more Uni work. Catch you all later.

Cheers,

Cavy · 13/04/2004 19:02

I have a wardrobe where all the little bitty baby stuff is piled high, but I don't dare open the door!

Skara · 14/04/2004 19:28

oh, I chucked all the yellow stuff out too which doesn't fit with my 'move house and become frugal domestic goddess' plans. Should probably have made some soap and scrubbed them then laid them out on stonds to bleach in the sun but when I can get 7 vests for a tenner in Tesco it's not worth the hassle! Also add me to the lumpen and sweaty heap (mmm, that sounds appealing) and I can also add horrendous swollen legs to that, soon to be followed by the inevitable swollen feet. Have done a Very Bad Thing and replaced the battery in the scales - not even going to say what happened, but I am either having a 16lb baby and 23lb placenta, or else I'm going to be wearing kaftans all summer, eek...

Gomez · 14/04/2004 19:55

Skara don't worry the fluid in your attractive legs must weight at least 25lbs, surely?

monkeygirl · 14/04/2004 21:27

Well I've bought some lovely comfy pants but the scouts could probably use them as tents when (if!!!) I finish with them. I won't even talk about my new bras and am really looking forward to seeing my boobs when they really grow when my milk comes in - not! My heartburn has also got 100% worse over the last few days and wakes me up in the middle of the night. Does anyone know what else I can use apart from Gaviscon?

Skara - just think what an impressive weight loss you'll have when you have your babe!

Skara · 14/04/2004 22:03

Thanks you two am praying that at least some of the weight is water (unless I have just managed to achieve massively fat ankles - sob). I too have some gorgeous tentpants, in fact had the mortifying experience of taking children to stay with my mother and realising with horror that a pair had sneaked into the wash and her dp was hanging them on the line with a look of ill-disguised horror . After the hideous embarrassment of buying disposable pants first time round, packing them in my hospital bag and then realising in the delivery room that they were SO tight that I was divided into segments, I've stuck to el cheapo grannyknickers for afterwards. Only problem is that they may look deeply unattractive but they are sooooooo comfy I have to force myself to throw them out. Yes, I have no shame...

Bras - eek, must think about some. Am desperate for underwired feeding bras this time round, I think I saw some in blooming marvellous. And I couldn't ever stomach gaviscon, but chomped my way through tons of chewy rennies (were they called rap-eze?) which tasted just like Pacers. I haven't had any heartburn at all this time, I guess cause I'm a totally different shape?

cuppy · 14/04/2004 22:06

Hello im new to this and had my baby in feb. Do u know where i might find a Fed thread please?

cuppy · 14/04/2004 22:06

oops i meant feb

monkeygirl · 14/04/2004 22:13

Ooh, let us know how you get on with finding underwired feeding bras - I didn't think they existed but I think my boobs would love me this time round if I made more of an effort to hoist them off my stomach

monkeygirl · 14/04/2004 22:16

Cuppy - I think if it exists it will be in the Parenting topics area. Congratulations btw.

cuppy · 14/04/2004 22:18

thanks monkey

Skara · 14/04/2004 22:20

they're here if that works it's a miracle - only in white, which is a bit of a pain but it's a start anyway. You can get loads of them if you don't mind shipping them over from the states but that's too much hassle for my liking - think figleaves.com have them too, but if I remember rightly they're something horrific like 45 quid! May as well go to Rigby and Peller and buy some industrial scaffolding at that price...mind you at this rate I'm going to be able to lie the baby on the floor and just unfurl a boob and carry on sitting here at the pc!

scampadoodle · 15/04/2004 13:04

Monkeygirl...sorry about delay - I only work 3 days a week & that's the only time I can Mumsnet, so haven't been in the office since last Thursday.
I am due on the 6th (D-Day ha ha ha) & was 5 days late with ds. I think Gomez is due a couple of days before me? I have a feeling mine's a boy but don't know.

By a 'hot holiday' I mean somewhere abroad where it'll be, well, hot. DH is yer swarthy jewish type so caravaning in Cornwall ain't really his thing. (As a lapsed left-footer I am used to suffering as an art form). He needs a few rays now & then, poor soul.

I am starting to get pain in my groin (god, groin is such a vile word) & can't sleep properly - am sorely missing being able to sleep on my back... My only exercise (apart from shovelling in Mini Eggs - half price in Sainsburys, yippee!!) is a 'body balance' class twice a week. Trouble is, my bump is so big I can only do the downward dog, cat stretches & the relaxation bit at the end. The rest of the time I sit there pretending to do pelvic floor exercises Then I look at the others (not pg) sweating over the stomach exercises & dread the time when I won't have an excuse not to do them...

OP posts:
monkeygirl · 15/04/2004 19:05

Skara it worked! Unfortunately they don't seem to cater for my big baps! I'm already a DD (and growing!) and have a broad back. Thanks anyway. But yes I will be having a look on figleaves.com. There is also a site called nursingbra.co.uk which does a very good size range. Don't know what they're like but I might give them a go.

Scampadoodle - I'm so impressed that you are going to an exercise class. I do try and walk several miles a week but am beginning to manage less and less which is very frustrating. I couldn't even leave the house today because I had a ridiculous tiredness come over me and I HAD to lie down and sleep (dd got to watch some tv again but she did also make me play some very boring games as payback). When do you finish work? Have you booked your MW holiday yet as well?? Is it really very very expensive?

My dd made me tearful today. I've been talk a bit to her about the new baby (but not too much) and she has been fine and even insisted she bought him a present yesterday which was very sweet. But today her eyes welled up with tears when I told her that dh and I would be the baby's mummy and daddy as well as hers. She cried no and needed a big big hug for that. Oh dear, a sign of things to come maybe?

Skara · 16/04/2004 06:57

SD, as I'm due the day after you and ds (no2 child) was 5 days late, we should be round about the same time. We did a MW holiday last year to, erm, Paleros. Last minute so a lot cheaper than booking in advance although it did involve holding nerve and being v brave and praying they'd still have childcare for a toddler and a mini club space available. They did (yay) and it was the best holiday we've had since our pre-children life - came home rested and relaxed and the children had had a brilliant time. Food wasn't great and accommodation was far from luxurious but I think basically it's all about paying for the childcare. Was a bit like a terribly middle class, terribly English, terribly nice Butlins abroad though - when we go again we'd make sure it was to one of the resorts in a town so we could escape for a sanity break now and again

Oops, that should be elsewhere but haven't time to rootle about searching for MW threads! Anyway, I have offically gained 3 stone. Eeeeeeeeek. However it must be mainly large baby, placenta and water as my legs look like old lady legs and even my feet were swollen last night. Am v impressed that you are doing any form of exercise given that my only exercise is pushing small person in pushchair, lugging toys up and down stairs and typing messages on here...

Monkeygirl, didn't notice those bras only went up to an E - as I am wearing a 38F at the moment, that's not going to work for me either - argh! Am off to investigate your site now instead. My dd (no1 child) bought the baby a toy yesterday too, she is v excited about the arrival and wanted to know was it going to be born with clothes on (!). Suspect the problem will lie with no2, my little shadow who is v sweet, gorgeous and very very attached to his mummy and pretty much oblivious in a 2 year old way to the imminent arrival of no3.

scampadoodle · 16/04/2004 12:48

Skara/Monkeygirl, I think we have decided against going abroad. It was for DH's benefit really as with a 3mth-old I won't get much of a break wherever we are. Also, the 4 hr flight to Lakitira seemed a bit daunting. He looked at the brochure last night, saw that it would be best part of 2k for one week & suddenly realised just how fascinating the English Country Cottages catalogue really is... We're looking for a place with a kids' play area & an indoor swimming pool so that the weather doesn't matter too much. Or if we came across a small villa or an apartment in Italy/France/Spain/Portugal which was v family friendly ie toys, pool, video and/or satellite telly & not costing an arm & a leg, then we'd consider that.

As to exercise: no, I am actually pathetic. I'm not even getting a looking-after-toddler work-out as for reasons too boring to go into, I've got the nanny looking after DS for a day & a half each week as well as him being at nursery 2 days (tho I'm at work those days). It's great as I get to do the housework & rest a bit, but don't get the opportunity to run around after him. I try to walk places but it's getting v uncomfortable.

I finish work 3 weeks today - hurrah!

Skara - you don't live in London do you, & if so, which hospital are you booked into?!

Gomez · 16/04/2004 13:26

Hello All,

I am not even going to bother looking for decent feeding bras this time - will just start a boob uplift/thigh liposuction etc. fund as a matter of urgency!!

MW appointment this morning - all looking good and buuba appears to be head down so no breech worries - well this is this week anyway!! Managing to keep HB levels steady, still low but not getting any worse, but Jesus am I sick of spinach!!!!!!

Carrying really low this time so no hearburn for me, which is one piece of luck. Have those who are suffering tried the Gavison tablets as opposed to the liquid, I had a friend who swore by them so might be worth a try.

Only 6.5 weeks to go I am sooooo excited now. Although was doing some sums last night and am unsure how excited I will remain when we have got no cash in a few months time - should help my weight loss campaign however as I won't be able to stuff my face, we will be strictly on short rations by the Summer!

Right I am off to relax this afternoon - handed 2nd last essay into Uni yesterday - so having a day off so to speak. Also got reflexology at 4pm so fully intending to doing nothing from now until bedtime.

Take care all.

monkeygirl · 16/04/2004 18:06

Hi all,

After a crap 'I can't move day yesterday' I had a 'I'm feeling quite energetic' day today and went to Kew Gardens with friend and children in tow. It was lovely weather but I was sweating before I went into the palm house so they had to wring me out when I came out of there!

SD - £2k for MW holiday I'm thinking something like English country cottages or Centre Parcs this year or back to the luxury family hotel in Dorset (I've got a brain block and can't remember its name). Yes it was expensive but the childcare facilities and food were great and it did have an 'adult' feel about it, as well as being child friendly. Know what you mean about it probably not being much of a holiday though with a young baby attached to your boob the whole time (I'm dreading bfing but that's a whole other thread).

Gomez - glad all is well so far. You made me feel guilty though cos I've been a bit lax about veg for a while. Almost feel like it amounts to child abuse so MUST stock up on some greens etc. BTW did your mw play guess the baby size?

I swing between being excited and panicking about something going wrong at the moment. I know most of us probably worry continually but my (hopefully) irrational fears are starting all over again. Just when I'd posted on some thread about how I think the paranoia gets less towards the end...that'll teach me.

Gomez · 16/04/2004 20:28

Monkeygirl - MW did do the ah, feels a nice 'normal' size thing - WTF is 'normal' anyway?? Then asked so what size was DD - 9lb, 9oz I reply. End of conversation....

To be fair to her I don't 'feel' so big this time - but that could be because number 2 has actually made some progress into my pelvis - DD stayed high, head stuck under ribs, poor wee scone had a big ledge at the back of her head for about 3 months and a squint face. I still thought she was gorgeous thou!! Then I looked at some photos later and thought, well perhaps not quite as gorgeous.. especially when she got baby acne at 6 weeks, lovely!! Anyway what I was trying to say was that DD was an extended leg breech who was all on show, IYKWIM, and twice as wide so I had thought that could have been why I looked and felt huge............ Phew what a saga. Right if you are still awake I am off!!

Skara · 17/04/2004 18:49

SD, you're right, there isn't much chance of having a break with a 3 month old...saying that we did Greece with a 5 month old who was still fully breastfed and a toddler and managed to have a break, but then we did take the inlaws with us At least you're having a holiday this year (sob). To answer your other question, no, dh works in London but we live in the sticks and I'm not booked in to any hospital cos all our summer holiday money is being spent on an independent midwife. What with that and moving house, we'll be skint too so Gomez and I can swap ideas for economising! Am also feeling guilty now about s**t diet and don't think eating Haagen Daaz (sp?) with strawberries counts as healthfood does it?
