Bit quiet in here!

FeatherFeather11 · 13/08/2014 19:48

very quiet! How is everyone? I've been so busy at work this week and can't wait till this mat leave business starts - so over it. Being worked to the bone and really need a holiday and I keep fantasising about squishing my sandwich into my bosses face. OH is being boring and really doesn't want me to fly while pregnant. It's ridiculous! So we're bickering over that at the moment. Anyone have any thoughts? And I've had a terrible headache for two days now -paracetomol isn't working. And to top it all off, my anxiety that 'something is wrong' has come back with a vengeance. Argh! Sorry to rant and be so 'me me me' - just needed to let it out. Wasn't planning to as I hate bringing you all down on the thread. Sad

How the hell is everyone else? bunny? What's happening?

RevoltingPeasant · 13/08/2014 20:19

Feather are you staying hydrated? Or, is it stress?

I say, waste some damn money! This weekend, book in for a pregnancy massage to reduce tension in neck and shoulders, and a reassurance scan. No reason not to!

FeatherFeather11 · 13/08/2014 20:47

Haha rp! Great plan! I may just book myself in for a massage. Might hold off on the reassurance scan for a bit - if I'm still feeling this way in a couple of weeks I will do. And yes, drinking loads of water! How are you?

FeatherFeather11 · 13/08/2014 21:07

Ps. I'm getting really hairy. Is this normal for a bit? I'm hoping it dies down soon! Blush

Bunnygirlie · 13/08/2014 21:44

Ooh a holiday would do you good feather I went to Spain in June and a week away was fab!

I'm ok thanks, backache is awful but just 5 and half weeks left at work YAY!!!

Sorry, spending too much time on fb and not hanging out here! 37 weeks now and scarily, wonderfully close to the end. Now on maternity leave and perfecting my exhausted elephant seal impression - complete with strange refluxy seal-barking noises!

Now then, what have I missed?

Welcome to the chopper Ladybunnikins and congratulations - those early days are tough to get through so I hope you can get some reassurance soon.

Feather, hairiness can definitely be affected - head hair stops falling out so gets thick (mine was already really thick so dreading post-birth moulting!), some people report leg hair etc grows more slowly (my experience) and some find it gets thicker. When were you thinking of flying? I went in both first and second trimesters and it was fine. Later could get uncomfortable and at the end you may need medical clearance - but before then there shouldn't be a problem. Do you know exactly what your DH is worried about?

RP, I think it was about your stage when I started wearing maternity clothes, not really because I needed them but because they made me look pregnant! Think that's when I got into dreamy bump rubbing too - though the grads have warned me it's a hard habit to break! Will probably be a while yet for movement - can't remember exactly when I decided I was having more than just a really weird indigestion but beyond the 20 week mark anyway. Bump bands are great - though maternity leggings are IMO even better.

I think someone asked about bras? I got some bodysilk seamless nursing bras that have been brilliant all the way through - they are really stretchy so have sort of grown with me, and I'm hoping they'll last until my supply and size settles down and I can get measured properly.

Hoping the second trimester is good to those of you starting it about now, both physically and mentally - I know poor Bunny continued to have a tough time of it but I definitely found second tri much easier and was able to get back to exercising and eating properly which definitely helped all round. I have to say so far the first trimester was the worst for both body and mind! The kicking is uncomfortable but so reassuring, and the fatigue is so much more manageable when I'm not trying to work too!

BlackberryandNettle · 13/08/2014 22:03

This post has been a Very long time coming - I was on one of the old threads way back in autumn last year but fell off due to tiredness/work stress/ pregnancy anxiety (silly as I know this thread would have given support!).

Anyway, long story short, despite problems and early c-section I had a beautiful, healthy baby girl in March - 5lb5oz. Loving being a mum. Wanted to find out what happened to everyone - I remember Merkin and also Katatonic (we were due practically the same day). Congratulations to you both! So glad everything worked out. Will go off and search for old threads now to see what happened to others.

All the best to everybody on here still in the helicopter!!!

CatsCantFlyFast · 14/08/2014 15:30

Blackberry hello, and congrats! We are all still around but mostly use a Facebook group now rather than the threads on here. PM me your real name and I can add you on Facebook if you fancy joining us

jessplussomeonenew · 14/08/2014 16:31

Welcome back Blackberries and congratulations on your little girl!

FeatherFeather11 · 17/08/2014 13:23

Hello? Is everyone ok? VERY quiet in here!

RevoltingPeasant · 17/08/2014 14:19

Hi!

Back from holidays today. Was nice to have a break but sickness is still not gone, nor MegaHayfever, so spent much of it puking and snotting away in DPIL living room.

I started wearing mat clothes during the holiday as I didn't want to pack regular clothes and find them uncomfy. Will be 16w tomorrow Shock I am definitely fat now, and have a belly that is starting to look pg, although it is lard rather than dinosaur.

Does anyone else still in some way not feel pg? I mean, I have seen an actual baby on two separate scans, I spend time on knees in front of loo most days, but somehow I feel like it's this fantasy I've concocted and I'm just fat and nothing is really there. It just feels so unreal still.

FeatherFeather11 · 17/08/2014 16:16

rp welcome home! Sorry to hear the sickness and hayfever haven't done one yet. Have you talked to the midwife about the sickness? Is there anything they can do about it?

I know what you mean about being pregnant but not quite feeling it. I'm not showing yet - I just look as though I've put on weight at the moment and I feel like if I buy maternity clothes I'll be jinxing it somehow. Silly, I know.

OH asked me earlier if I feel I have 'connected' with the featherette yet, and I can't say I have to be honest. I mean, I spend time thinking about her, but the earth mother thing hasn't struck yet. Maybe that comes with the bump and kicking.

In a way, perhaps it's a form of subconscious self preservation. I still can't quite believe I got pregnant after three years of trying and failing.

win hope you're well. And hope everyone else is too. I miss bushy. Feel sad she's not with us anymore.

ladybunnikins · 17/08/2014 16:41

I'm on holiday at the moment but only in Holland, staying with FIL. I was 5 weeks yesterday and got 3+ on a digi before flying, plus felt sick so felt quite positive but today I have no symptoms at all and I slept better than I have since finding out. Never thought I would be wishing I felt sick!

FeatherFeather11 · 17/08/2014 17:01

Hold on to your hat lady - the sickness will be there before you know it. Usually doesn't kick in properly till six weeks anyway, so enjoy the normal-ness for now! I know it's easier to say to relax than actually do it, but I'm sending you Berrie vibes! Enjoy your break and try not to fret too much, because we have no control over what will happen. You'll be past 12 weeks before you know it!

I'm 15w + 3 today. Still can't believe it!

ladybunnikins · 17/08/2014 19:40

Thanks Feather, I keep squeezing my boobs to see if they feel sore! We told FIL since he knew about the IVF attempts but told him not to get his hopes up yet, it would be his first grandchild.

RevoltingPeasant · 17/08/2014 20:40

Lady my sickness came at 6+6 bang on. Like someone flicked a switch. Also no change to tits, no swelling or soreness or anything.

Symptoms are just a random grab bag!

With regard to mat clothes, my ordinary trousers just don't fit comfortably anymore and I got given a bunch of mat clothes by my friend, so screw it.... Not going to buy normal clothes in a size up when I will grow out of them too in a few weeks!
Nah, haven't talked to MW about sickness, largely as I won't see her for a few weeks - we do the 16w check with GP - and although it's a pain, it's really not bad enough to take meds for, so she won't be able to do anything.

Speaking of which........ I have a consultant appt tomorrow and my 16w check on Tues! Blimey, that's come around fast Shock

I miss Bushy too. I really liked her posts and she was one of my favourite Berry posters. Bushy if you are lurking I am thinking of you still.

jessplussomeonenew · 18/08/2014 08:10

There are days when it still feels utterly unreal to me that I'm having a baby... and at 38 weeks (eeek!) you'd really think I should be used to the idea by now! The kicking definitely makes a big difference to how real it feels, but I think it's just such an incredibly huge change that it's hard to get your head round, even without the added load of worry that comes with having tried for such a long time.

Missing Bushy too - mcs are just so bloody unfair on top of all the other stresses and strains.

Lady, be careful what you wish for! But yes, I know what you mean about wanting symptoms - mine tailed off for a few days at about 10 weeks and despite the fact I'd been horribly ill since 6 weeks, I still missed them in a weird way. Hope you start to feel beter soon RP!

FeatherFeather11 · 18/08/2014 19:00

Has anyone suffered from pretty bad headaches in pregnancy? I'm averaging about three a week at the moment. :(

jess 38 weeks!! How exciting!

RevoltingPeasant · 18/08/2014 19:20

Hi all! Just back from talk with consultant - or rather his registrar. She was super helpful!

I have to have consultant led care due to kidney ishoos. So she went through all the history and described what happens to the kidneys during pg and why I might have problems, but then said they would keep an eye on me, so I have another appt after 20w scan in Sept. I felt really well taken care of actually! She answered all my questions and reassured me about some stuff, like would I get GD from living primarily on breakfast cereal Blush and could I lie on my back if my kidneys got too painful.

She also put paid to a major fear of mine about high rotational forceps (Kiellands) as she said only a few drs there were qualified to use them, and mostly they defaulted to Csection in that case, and that would always be an option.

It was great! I also heard the dino's HB which was 150bpm and strong. Feeling a lot happier than recently, as I'd started to get anxious about the birth (I have gynae related anxiety).

How's everyone else? Feather can you take paracetamol for the head?

jessplussomeonenew · 18/08/2014 20:58

Feather, I seem to remember reading that headaches are quite normal at the start of the second trimester, something hormonal I think so hopefully a passing phase. Do check you're drinking enough water, particularly with the weather - beyond that I think it's our good old friend paracetamol.

Glad the registrar was helpful RP, it makes such a difference when someone takes the time to really answer your questions and address the things you're worrying about. Lovely that you heard the heartbeat too!

Just done my last pregnancy yoga session which was really good. Unfortunately there's no aquanatal class this week so think I will have to go for a swim instead - I'm starting to feel very heavy and I just love the feeling of weightlessness that the water creates.

RevoltingPeasant · 19/08/2014 18:04

Hope you had a good swim, Jess!

Had the 16w check this morning, and DH came too and heard the HB (130 this time, GP reckoned s/he was sleeping). All good and the GP had had two homebirths herself, so we talked about the advisability of that, although I think I'll reluctantly go for the hospital option with my kidney situation.

V quiet in here... what are you all up to?

Bunnygirlie · 19/08/2014 20:42

Evening all! Sorry I've been quiet, not like me at all!

RP my sickness has never gone I'm afraid! Although it was rarely actually vomming it was all day nausea from 6w till 16w, then just mornings and then every now and again, as it is now.

lady have a happy holiday!

I can't believe 3 of you are 15/16w now, that's amazing!

RP feather I know what you mean! even after 6/12/20w scans and slight flutters I didn't feel it was real till baby bunny starting kicking!!!
Yay to hearing HB it's awesome isn't it Smile, I taped it on my phone one time and love listening to it!

feather I would go to docs/mw about headaches, I had a few early on but I would just get checked out anyway.

jess 38 weeks, scary!!!

winohhh · 20/08/2014 10:27

Hello! How is everyone?

RP great news that you heard the heart beat! My 16 week check was no where near as exciting. Didn't listen to heartbeat, just pee'd in a pot and blood pressure etc.

Lady, hope you're feeling some symptoms now, but not too many! I was never sick. Had nausea, quite badly on some days, but totally manageable generally. Think I got off quite lightly!

Feather, I have been getting more headaches than normal actually, although not bad enough to take anything so I've been trying to ignore them.

I'm with you all on the not quite believing you're pregnant thing. Not helped at my yoga class last week, everyone exclaiming that I didn't look 17 weeks pregnant (cue ferocious googling of bump size at 17 weeks!). I'm still not in maternity clothes, although making use of a hair band to keep my trousers up so hopefully it won't be long now. I want to feel kicks!!! When did you further along berries start feeling things??

Jess 38 weeks! Eek!! Bunny, how long for you now?

I have awful back pain at the mo! I'm only 17 weeks! What will it be like later?? Busily squatting at every opportunity to strengthen something or other!
