Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Starry I'm so glad you are gong to get help - you'v e been through a lot and shouldn't battle on alone.
Lottie and mnsnec Annoying judgemental people.
Toavoid and mrsnec It must be extra hard if you were waiting a long time to conceive and have to face this. Toavoid I must be b eing obtuse - does that mean you developed symptoms before knowing you were pregnant if you were on the last cycle of the treatment? Emsy and Twinkle sorry to hear no let up - I do hope Kalidasa's dreadful case is continuing to recede - Oklahoma Hugs. You are generally so unsorry for yourself.
Booboostoo How are things? Basgeti Ah, that is awful all round.
He won't be traumatised, though, if other's experience of LO's resiliance is anythingo to go by.
I haven't tried to go back too far. I expect we have some new people.
Sorry if I've overlooked anyone.

Hi Lucindia it was the third cycle, we were going to have up to six cycles. If I had been at home I might have realised before i developed symptoms but we had decided we needed to get away on holiday so left all the tests at home and just had fun.

I had symptoms whilst I was away that did make me question but hyperemesis symptoms didn't start til a few weeks later.

Is that what you were asking?

Now that I'm on Ondansetrone I've has three days with no sickness. In the morning I have to eat very very quickly once I'm awake but it's so worth it.

mrsnec · 31/08/2014 08:01

Hi again everyone, yes I certainly agree it would be handy if I knew someone in Rl who could explain this to everyone from the point of view of someone who's been through it. Having someone like that at work must have been a real help. Having said that, I wouldn't be here if I had any kind of support in Rl and whilst it's not helped people understand being here has certainly helped me!

It's interesting what's been said about anxiety. My Dh made an observation that the start of my brief period of feeling loads better was the same day I got the all clear after having to have a second anomaly scan so he thinks I was making myself worse up to that point with the worry.I don't know if there's much in that though. I was 23 weeks ish at that point which is when a lot of people seem to get a little break for a while.

Hope everyone has a better day today.

LucindaE · 31/08/2014 10:05

Mrsnec About anxiety - I am sure you are right. I had anxiety
about Down's Syndrome high risk up to week fifteen and it was then that
the last of it tailed off, having improved early, after week thirteen; I was very lucky there. I'm so glad your anxieties are over. I wonder if PSS could put you in touch with anyone in your part of the world?
ToAvoid i meant to say how glad I am that you had someone at work who was a veteran of The Scourge.
How is Everyone today?

frenetic and MrsNec I suppose it's feasible that anxiety makes it worse but I'm much more inclined to believe it's the hormones because the sickness seems to vary so much day to day sometimes, no matter how we are feeling.

basgetti i kept reassuring our son that getting so sick in preg isn't normal and that it was just very unlucky. I was afraid that he'd be so scared by the whole thing that he'd never, ever risk getting anyone preg ever! Although possibly I should have tried to reassure him after his teen years are over, thinking about it. Anyway I hope your son is ok and that you are ok and you are surviving your mother;s comments.

starry very pleased to hear you're getting help.

I don't have an official due date yet as haven't had my dating scan!

basgetti · 31/08/2014 17:59

Good luck Lottie and Boo!

My due date is 21st December. Hope everyone is feeling okay today x

Georgebythesea · 31/08/2014 18:30

Wow I'm getting nearer the top now..Nearing the end of pregnancy and meeting our son :) From week 6-20 I didn't think I'd ever make it this far! My due date ia actually 4th Oct rather then 6th but I can't copy and paste on my phone for some reason

Oklahoma · 31/08/2014 18:32

Lottie & Boo you are sooo close - I am so excited for you guys!!

Lucinda are you ok now? Hope you are fully recovered.

Sorry have been quiet recently, this third trimester is sapping my will to live.

starrynight123 · 31/08/2014 18:51

okla I've been there. It gets really hard towards the end. But it will soon be over. Stay strong. You've done amazingly.

freneticfox · 31/08/2014 19:29

I'm due 14th Feb. Not even halfway yet, going to be a long old winter!

Meerka · 31/08/2014 19:38

the third trim is so much harder than you expect ... do take care of yourself, okla. Indulge yourself - nap or sleep as much as you are able, take warm baths etc.

Emsymarie · 31/08/2014 21:28

I'm last, nooo! My due date has been all over the shop but 17 March is the date from early scan. Then I've read they only let you go 38weeks with twins? So I'm actually thinking February. I have my proper 12 week scan on Thursday. I'm a little bit scared about that but hoping that the ridiculous size of my bump and this hideous sickness are signs all is ok. Had a not so bad day today. I think when I previously said it helps to accept this and have reasonable expectations I ignored my own advice!! Basically, I can have reasonably good days as long as I'm not out past about 5pm. Definite improvement on only being able to be horizontal without vomiting! Hope everyone else is doing ok xx

Emsymarie · 31/08/2014 21:34

Actually I wonder if anyone who has taken promethazine/phenergan could help... I'm currently taking 1 25mg tablet in morning and 2 before bed. I always have bad evenings so it's occurred to me maybe I need to take that second dose earlier? Maybe if I took one of the bedtime ones at about 4, do u see any reason that would be a problem? I was thinking I probably ought to start to wean myself off them soon but bit apprehensive about that as I'll be back at work in a weeks time. Is this the type of thing the helpline can advise on or does it need to be GP? xx

Lottiedoubtie · 31/08/2014 21:56

Emsy I'm not a doctor so can only give you my experience. When I took phenergan I took 3 doses a day, when I woke up, lunchtime and early evening. It didnt do a huge amount for me except make me tired! But others do have more success! Really don't think you need to be weaning off them either, give yourself a break!
