I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Daddy listening to audiobooks helped me. The TV made me nauseous and reading was too much effort. Please tell Nicky that it does get better. I have been sick throughout (which not everyone gets anyway) but despite still being sick I can broadly function these days so long as I don't do too much. I also spent the early weeks unable to move from the sofa. I'm rambling but my point is that even if she is unlucky enough to be sick throughout it won't be this bad for the entire time.

DurhamRed · 16/09/2014 09:53

Yesterday turned out to be a complete wash out. I was unable to keep any flood/fluid down even after taking ondansetron and buccastem. Will see how today turns out (have woken up with major headache, so not great so far).

mampam · 16/09/2014 11:06

Hi all, just checking in to say Hello Smile

I'm so sorry for those of you who are really suffering quite badly and those of you who think it may be coming back. Sad

I now have some ranitidine thanks to all those who recommended it to me. It does largely work but I keep forgetting to take it Blush GP told me to take it twice daily but I keep forgetting the second dose. I did manage it yesterday and my yoghurt for breakfast this morning seems to be so far not giving me any of the horrendous heartburn in my throat.

I wonder if all the medication taken over the last few months can have an effect on the stomach. The last few days I've been getting horrendous pains in my stomach when eating.

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday, DH and I went out for a meal!! The first time I've been out anywhere properly for about 6 months and the first time I've managed to put some makeup on in that time too Grin and I usually wear it everyday.

Big hugs to everyone.

jenhad84 · 16/09/2014 12:10

Hello all! Hope you're all doing ok...

Just stopped by for some quick advice. I've been on Ondastron for a week now, and its really working for me. Lasts a few hours at a time and it means I'm managing to eat which is a massive boost!

But... since I've started taking it, I've not had a single bowel movement! It's now been 9 days! I've been having lactalose twice a day, but wondered if anyone else had the same problem and what they took?

Thanks!

basgetti · 16/09/2014 12:24

Had call from GP, too weak and sick to attend the surgery this morning. He has decided to give me another go with Ondanestron provided I take Movicol and has also prescribed Ranitidine. Fingers crossed they will help!

jenhad Ondanestron is terrible for constipation, it's one of the reasons I've not been able to take it the last few weeks as it affected by bowel so badly. I ended up using suppositories just to try to clear my bowel a bit but it was only when I stopped it completely that my bowel got back to normal, but that took several days. If oral laxatives aren't working could you give suppositories a try? They aren't pleasant but might make you more comfortable.

Meerka · 16/09/2014 13:16

oh heck basgetti i hope the ondan and movicol work. Are you ketones reasonably alright?

jenhad i hope the lactulose helps but I think many people find stronger stuff is needed.

durham hopefully today is better

basgetti · 16/09/2014 13:37

Hi Meerka ketones were between 1 and 2 this morning so not too bad but obviously don't want them to get any higher and end up back in hospital. Ondanestron works so well for me in terms of sickness so just hoping my bowel holds out.

Glad to hear good things about the ranitidine mampam, hoping it works for me too. Nice that you got to enjoy a meal out.

DurhamRed · 16/09/2014 14:27

"Meerka* unfortunately I'm not doing well today at all. Haven't been able to keep anything down. Have horrible feeling if I don't get any better I'll be admitted to hospital again. I just feel awful.

basgetti · 16/09/2014 14:38

Durham are you checking your ketones? You must be so dehydrated you poor thing. x

Meerka · 16/09/2014 14:43

oh dear durham ... please do keep an eye on those ketones. Fingers crossed things improve.

bas fingers crossed for you too

mampam · 16/09/2014 14:50

jenhad you poor thing, I feel your pain as I was quite constipated to begin with. GP prescribed me with some Senna Tablets which helped. Are you doing all the obvious things like trying to increase your fluid intake now that you can keep things down a little better? Are you able to eat fruit and veg? (I know it's hard to eat anything when you feel bunged up).

basgetti Ranitidine is definitely helping (when I remember to take it properly) and is definitely helping with the nausea too Smile. Hope it works for you.

Durham I hope you don't end up in hospital again. Agree to check your ketones.

DurhamRed · 16/09/2014 15:03

Have ordered some more multistix to check for ketones, unfortunately I don't have any sticks to check at the moment. If I'm still like this tomorrow it'll be off to A&E again

mrsnec · 16/09/2014 15:20

Hi everyone, Meerka thanks for the advice the other day seems really trivial problem though now when I look at how some of the others are suffering at the moment though.

Hope everyone feels better soon. Great advice about the drugs too.

bas and Durham I hope you manage to stay out of hospital.

daddy, how is dw? I agree with what the others have said. I'm better at tv and magazines than I am with books and whoever suggested audiobooks is a genius that would have been a godsend to me in my worst moments! It's good she's got company but I can go either way with that depending on what mood I'm in! But I did sleep a lot at her stage. Wish I could now though.

Had a check up today. Been told to play it by ear again for another week but because I have a bit of swelling I have to go back for blood tests tomorrow.

basgetti · 16/09/2014 16:11

Durham can you bypass A&E? When I've needed assessing and admitting my GP has called the on call doctor at the hospital and I've been sent directly to the ward with a letter and been seen pretty quickly. Having to sit around in an A&E waiting room sounds grim when you are feeling so poorly x

DurhamRed · 16/09/2014 17:06

In our area its quicker to go direct to A&E as when referred by gp you have to via A&E anyway. I've not normally waited too long in the waiting room as they've got me on a trolly and fluids up fairly quickly. I've been sent away by on call gp's with tablets which are useless when you can't keep anything down.

LucindaE · 16/09/2014 17:15

basgeti You poor thing, I'm so glad you've got Ondansetron and I hope you soon feel a lot better.
durhamred Oh no, that is so horrible, and you must feel dreadful at this stage. As basgetti and others say, you are probably dehydrated already. Not nice to wait in A and E, I hope the gp's can bypass that wait.
The headache was a sign of dehydration almost certainly, unfortunately, and that was this morning.
mampam Glad that the heartburn has eased and you had an evening out.
Ellecottito Great news, encouraging for other long term sufferers - relief at twenty-eight weeks.
JenhadDaddyLeictester and others, don't think I can improve on advice of others. on boredom, constipation, etc. Those jelly suppositories help an awful lot of people.
Waves to Meerka, elizabethsmum and hopes everyone else is coping OK. Room How are things?
Apologies to anyone impolitely ignored.
xx
