Good luck with that piglit.

Have to say with regards to waistlines that all my extra stuff is well above my 'waist' not at womb level, so I can get things done up, but spill over the top.

Vo ist Eyelash? Not heard from her for a while.

piglit · 12/04/2004 12:36

I've seen eyelash on the Septemebr thread. I think she's been given an edd at the end of Sept.

Is everyone else lurking on the April thread? It's very exciting (but not for the poor overdue mumsnetters!)

beansprout · 12/04/2004 12:44

Completely lurking on the April thread, and am sure will be on the May thread next month and so on. Am really relieved to hear that you can still be in denial about birth on your due date!!

Had a weird dream last night where I was in a massive, huge shop and just could never get to the mat. clothes section!!

Can't find H&M on line but would appreciate the link if anyone can find it. Next and Dotty P's have lots on line. Have decided that Mothercare is run by those bad MILs who love the babies but have no regard for the pg woman - how else can we explain those clothes?

miffy2 · 12/04/2004 12:56

Toots, totally agree with you on the belly thing - mine is all up high. Went to MW booking appt yesterday and she told me it was my bowel! Nice! That would explain why it is all nice and swollen in the evening and flat-ish in the morning. Oh well, at least everything is in the 'right' place. The appt went well and I have my scan in 5 weeks (at 17 +5 - only get one scan here).

As for H&M, none where I live but going to Manchester on a footie w/end soon and plan a visit to the 'cheap 'n' cheerful' maternity mecca. Formes - nice but waaay expensive for everyday stuff. Benettton clothes are nice.

Turtle35 · 12/04/2004 13:04

Welcome Choco - you poor thing going off chololate! I suppose it would of been a blessing for me. I can't stand anything greasy at the moment.

Bean honestly try IsabellaOliver.com it has lovely clothes but a bit pricy, I have a few things now I love and are so comfy. I ventured into Mothercare for a few minutes and was instantly depressed.

Toots you really make me laugh!!

Has anyone tried www.bumpto3.com - they have some belly belts that look like the ticket if you want to continue wearing your own clothes.

I was reading April thread yesterday to, yikes they all seem to be overdue! Poor things.

aku · 12/04/2004 13:08

Hi beansprout! decided yesterday that I had had enough of waiting for the test at the doctors and did another test myself this morning. It was definitely positive! So I have made another appointment for Tuesday to get things moving along. I am just too laid back about it this second time around - my attitude is even begining to scare me. Once i have had a scan it will be real for me right now its all a dream. Good day all - i better get some work done!

Congratulation Aku!! Do you know how many weeks you are? how old is your first child?

aku · 12/04/2004 15:00

If I have my dates right 10 and my daughter is 5yrs - so you can see why I am a bit rusty this time. First time round, I was at the doctors for a conception check up and he thought I was mad.

I thought they had to check me over, give me advice and when I did get pregnant I will not take the home test results, I wanted a doctor to confirm things again they told me to calm down and made an appointment for a midwife.

This time round I am taking things easy, we'll see how long my calmness will last!

Turtle35 · 12/04/2004 15:05

Wish I could be calm, it's my first time and I have been worried about EVERYTHING. I am 35 and feel very old to be having my first baby. My first scan is next week so once I have that I think I will start to relax a bit. I will be 12 weeks next Monday.

beansprout · 12/04/2004 15:11

Congratulations Aku!!

Turtle - I am the same age and it's my first too. Was just SO anxious the first few weeks and I can honestly say that the combination of reaching 12 weeks and having a scan has really, really helped. I feel really different about it all now - spend my days worrying about the birth instead of m/c!! Seriously though, I hope the scan makes a difference for you too.

piglit · 12/04/2004 15:19

I agree with Beansprout. When I had my 12 week scan I felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I remember waking up on the morning I got to 12 weeks and feeling so much better about it all. I still feel better and better as each week goes by but the 12 week milestone was the big one for me.

Turtle35 · 12/04/2004 15:25

Thanks for the encouraging words, I am sure once I have the scan I will feel better too.

Bean as you are generally the same age as I am, did you have a nuchal fold scan? if so were you happy with the results?

beansprout · 12/04/2004 15:55

Yes, am having nuchal test but hospital does blood tests as well as measurements and have don't have 2nd blood test for another 2 weeks, with results about a week after that (phew!)

So, don't know results yet. Were yours ok?
Was not sure about having it as would not do anything unless something really, really awful was happening, but being optimistic, I have assumed it will just provide some sort of reassurance.

There was a earlier strand here
which contained a website link with various figures (from Bundle) that really helped me understand the results to these tests!

Is anyone else having the tests?

piglit · 12/04/2004 16:07

I had my nuchal fold scan 2 weeks ago (see below). Was hugely relieved with the results. I hadn't realised that the risk for a 35 year old is 1 in 200. My risk is apparently 1 in 1663.

beansprout · 12/04/2004 16:09

That's brilliant Piglit - am really pleased for you

piglit · 12/04/2004 16:13

Thanks beansprout. It's only after that scan that I began to relax a bit. However, I was an absolute monster in the run up to it. I bit my poor, lovely dh's head off the night before over something unbelievably trivial so don't be surprised if you feel a bit anxious before you have it.

beansprout · 12/04/2004 16:48

The stakes are so very high with all of this and it hits me every so often. Am much happier moaning about my trousers not fitting!!

florenceuk · 12/04/2004 17:14

Piglit that's a great result. I am a bit worried I won't get my nuchal scan done in time as the hospital I originally wanted to go to is full, and the doctor took ages to tell me. DH doesn't want to go to the alternative as he had a horrible experience there but don't have much choice other than forking out £3000 for an independent birth centre.

For all of you worrying about being 35, think of those of us who are older! I think 35 is quite young myself.

Still feeling nauseous but puking gone down to around once a day if lucky. Easter will be a miserable affair I think - chocolate no thanks!

piglit · 12/04/2004 17:24

I had to pay for mine. It was £90 and the best £90 I've ever spent. Uh oh, I can tell I'm about to get on my high horse again about the appalling and outrageous disparity in maternity care in this country. Whilst some people are fortunate enough to have superb care (and I count myself in this catogory so far) it is a disgrace that so many have frankly crap care. I'll stop now and eat some chocolate.

Turtle35 · 12/04/2004 17:46

Ahhh did someone mention chocolate!! I just scoffed down a huge piece of carrot cake, my that was good.

My hospital offers the nuchal scan free of charge, have my blood tests at the end of April by which time I'll be 14 weeks. Beansprout I feel the same as you on termination but I would want to know if there is anything wrong with my baby.

Did you know that these test are not offered in Ireland. Talk about appalling medical system, they with-hold informtion by not letting woman test. OK I'll get off my soap box now.

miffy2 · 12/04/2004 17:54

Turtle35, I live in Ireland and as far as I kow you are right. You can request a nuchal fold scan but I think it is dependent on your age/family history/doctor etc.
Personally I would not have the test done but that is simply because the outcome would not change my plans.
In other ways our ante-natal healthcare is excellent - I for one cannot complain (pg on #3).

Turtle35 · 12/04/2004 20:21

Miffy I am really pleased you have had a good experience with your ante natal care. I was in Dublin this weekend for a wedding and a good friend of ours is a Doctor there and we were discussing the pros and cons to Ireland and England ante natal care - she felt it was better in the UK but then, grass is always greener!
