Cerys, I blame the supermarkets too! All this 2 for 1 nonsense is evil, they never do it on cucumbers or apples, just nice stuff like ice-cream. It would be un-economical (?) not to buy them wouldn't it?
I've got rather a lot in for baby Boo so far - maybe I am the control freak DH suggests in his braver moments..? Bought a cot quite early on, but it was a steal from a lady in work so couldn't turn it down. Bought a TS because I was getting twitchy about not being able to find on that would fit in car, so the moment I saw it would, I bought it. Got a mattress for cot and sheets, have bought some essentials like white vests and sleepsuits for hospital (still shudder at that word ), but no other clothes until we know if it's girl or boy. I guess that doesn't sound too bad so far, I've got some other bits n bobs as well, but no major purchases. Having alot given to us from family members who've sprogged recently anyway.

All feeling okay today? I had a birth dream last night and it was all lovely so I am calm and serene today.

miffy2 · 05/07/2004 14:29

hello all,
loving the kicks from my bump but can't wait for the 'limbs-trying-to-escape' kicks, so my two little ones can feel 'their' baby!

I don't get to buy much this time round as it is number 3 but I will manage to sneak a few things in (like a Tripp Trapp chair, have always wanted one!)

Turtle, congrats on the working from home. I did it in the final weeks of my last pregnancy and it made a huge difference.

This time round I finish up at 32 weeks - my DD starts school in Sept so I am taking the extra weeks off - yippee!!!

sooz31 · 05/07/2004 14:45

Bibiboo, gosh you are very well prepared! I suppose like miffy and geogtech I don't need to buy much as we will be re-using DS's baby things, but I still feel like I haven't had time to sit and think about preparing in the same way I did for DS. But today I am going to start making a list...

as tomorrow the builder arrives! Good grief.

Turtle35 · 05/07/2004 14:52

Well done Miffy- I like the tripp trapp chairs also, watched a woman put her baby in one at John Lewis and it started bawling - clearly doesn't mean it's bad but I can see that happening to me!

Those of you who have stuff already or family members giving you their things are VERY lucky. We don't have family in London nor do they seem to want to be giving us things I didn't realise it was all going to cost so much money even though I know I am a complete sucker when it comes to beautiful things for my DD (my first baby) and can't help myself

Am working at home today cause of tube strike and it's glorious

For what it's worth I can't seem to go a day without ice cream.

Turtle35 · 05/07/2004 15:02

Sooz it took A LOT of convincing and subtle reminders that the bugaboo would be the most suitable for DD. For example I left printed copies from the internet of the benefits of bugaboo etc lying around lying around the house

florenceuk · 05/07/2004 15:10

Tchibo has Tripp Trapp look-alikes for £35! But bubs won't be able to sit in those until they're at least 6 mths. One thing that I have found really useful is one of those adjustable rockers by Chicco - you can lie them flat and rock them (good if they are esp grumpy) and then prop them up when you eventually start weaning. You can usually find them cheap on Loot - mine cost £5!

I haven't bought anything for baby yet - haven't even sorted out DS's old clothes. I'm more concerned with putting together a reasonable summer wardrobe for my summer holiday! Last time I thought M&S did the nicest vests in the end, JL had little bands on the sleeves which cut into poor DS's arms and he was only a weenie. But JL do little nighties which are very useful for night-time. A word of warning - DS got rid of his scratch mitts pretty quickly. We resorted to swaddling at every naptime for the first few months. If you know anyone in NZ, JK do scratch mitts with elasticated wrists which would stay on better I think. Don't forget to get a nice soft stretchy cloth for swaddling.

Just found out my iron is a wee bit low, so does this mean I should eat lots of chocolate icecream?

Turtle35 · 05/07/2004 16:25

Florence you are a genius you have been holding back on us me thinks!!

thanks for all the tips, I shall look for the Chicco rocker thing as I was just looking at the Mamas and Papas rocking craddle which I though looked pretty good at JL.

I have found some good sleep suits which have built in scratch mits so they wont fall off at JL and the little white co have some fab little nighties with the draw string at the end with built in scratch mits - they are soooo cute.

Yes chocolate is full of iron so chocolate ice cream would be even better for extra calcium

Bibiboo · 05/07/2004 17:39

Help me

Does anyone know where I can buy (excuse moose-brained description) a pull-string, flap-wing type mobile for nursery, prefereably online? My friend has an adorable green wooden dragon one, which hangs from the ceiling of her daughter's nursery, and when you pull it's string, the wings flap up and down - does anyone know what I mean?
She got hers from a traditional wooden toy store in Cardiff, which has since closed down!

sooz31 · 05/07/2004 17:49

I do know the ones you mean, Bibiboo, but can't really suggest where, as like your friend, have only ever spotted them in lovely little toy shops that specialise in wooden bits and bobs.

Bibiboo · 05/07/2004 17:55

Any idea what they're really called Sooz? I can't Google "pull-string, flap-wing" can I?

miffy2 · 05/07/2004 18:10

Bibiboo,

I found what I think you are looking for, only it is a US site, couldn't find any UK ones.

www.islandtreasuretoys.com/nursery_mobiles.html

here

Bibiboo · 05/07/2004 18:12

Thanks Miffy, they are gorgeous! Off now to find out about shipping to uk!

Turtle35 · 05/07/2004 18:52

They are fantastic mobiles. Bibi let us know how you get on.

eyelash · 05/07/2004 19:41

My god you have all been busy. Great to hear everybody is getting on wit buying things.

As this is no 3 for us as well we don't need to actually buy anything but I have bought some clothes in the sales.

Miffy2 - I also finish at 32 weeks as ds1 starts school in September. I can't believe my first baby will be in a uniform and independant - brings a tear to my eye!

Allyco - hope you are well.

Miffy2, i'm the same, 3rd time round and eyeing up the triptrapp. Florence UK from previous experience if iron levels are low it is compulsory to eat huge quantities of green and blacks dark chocolate! Have to say i'm with those who recommend M & S for vests and scratch mits I found a bit of a waste of time as they just came off. On the rocker front didn't bother first time round DS just lay on the floor and seemed fairly happy, second time round was worried he would stand on his sister so bought baby bjorn bouncer, didn't use that much but she sat in it while we ate and it has the advantage they can use it until they're 2, she's just one and I put her in it to contain her while i'm trying to cook, but don't yet want her in the highchair, still amuses for a while, so I think it probably was money well spent.

piglit · 06/07/2004 11:48

Morning all. We finally bought some stuff for bump! We've now got most of the big stuff on order - cot, car seat, stroller, monitor, etc from John Lewis. It all arrives in September so I've got until then to get bump's bedroom sorted. No more whithering looks from people who think we are bad parents for not having bought lots of stuff. Hurrah!

I hope everyone else is ok today.

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 13:34

I have convinced Dh to come to John Lewis with me on the weekend - it's in Bristol and we live Cardiff way, so it's a bit of a treck for "just a look around". He wouldn't go if he thought I had a spending plkan already worked out, so shhhh! I'm confident that when we get there he'll not be able to resist the cute baby stuff Crafty, moi? Surely not!

sooz31 · 06/07/2004 13:39

Nice plan Bibi. And once there you've always got the line, 'we-ell it's silly to not get it/order it now we are here'.

We live about 5 minutes from our John Lewis - it's dangerously heavenly!

florenceuk · 06/07/2004 13:44

I found the only baby gear decision that DH really got involved in was the choice of buggy (we ended up with a Mountain buggy). All others - clothes, cot, monitor etc - he left up to me! But a word of warning - John Lewis is hell on a weekend with thousands of pregnant women queued up to get advice.

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 14:11

I'm planning on getting there as soon as it opens to get it over and done with - as much as I love shopping, I can't stand being shuffled and jostled about in crowds in my condition!, or in fact, in any condition!
And I'm finding people aren't any more caring/considerate when all that stands between them and what they want is a pregnant lady. I am practicing my best "Shame on you! You inconsiderate moose!" look for Saturday - how does it go again...?

huppa · 06/07/2004 14:19

Florenceuk - my dh was exactly the same. Spent ages choosing the buggy, but was happy to let me get on with everything else.
Can´t recommend the Tripp Trapp highly enough. We´ll be buying another one for db as dd is still happily using hers.
Very impressed with how organised you all are. I certainly wasn´t that well organised first time round.
Feeling very envious about all these 2 for 1 offers on ice cream etc. German supermarkets just don´t do them ( 2 for 1 offers that is - not ice cream).

beansprout · 06/07/2004 15:02

What is it with men and transport - dp is the same?! Is it because its the most macho bit of gear we need to get, and is therefore the least likely to
a) be cooed over or
b) have winnie the pooh on it?

This thread is taking ages to load - is it ok if I start a new thread?

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 15:03

I'm with you on the new thread Bean!

Allyco · 15/07/2004 15:32

Allyco is back - thanks for all support. I am not too well at the moment, given speed at which the tumour (hate that word) seems to be growing. Have a lot of faintness and dizziness. Am certainly not blooming. Was seen by consultant on Thursday and have to try and get as far as I can. Once I can't carry on any more with the pain they will take me back in and either put me back on the morphine, the lovely morphine, for a week or so and see if it settles again, or if morphine doesn't work will either induce me or go straight to c section. I do not like this. I don't want tobe grown up any more.... Anyway enough of me me me how are all you you you? tell me stome stories to cheer me up...

huppa · 15/07/2004 22:08

Hi Allyco - it´s great to hear from you. I´m know we´ve all been thinking about you. I can´t begin to imagine how you´re feeling, but hope you´re getting lots of support from those around you. How many weeks are you now?
Haven´t got many stories to cheer you upI´m afrais although DD did poo in the bath yesterday and I frantically tried to get it out of the bath before it all disintegrated.
We´ve actually started a new thread called October 2004 - Moose massive part 3. I´ll post a quick note on there so that noone misses your message.
