Turtle35, yes, saw the Observer article, really well written and absorbing. Thank goodness everything was OK.

piglit · 03/04/2004 18:40

Does anyone else feel like they are going to burst out of their trousers/skirt? I'm 12 + 5 and feel really huge today. Has anyone got any idea when we "should" be moving into maternity stuff? I don't want to start wearing maternity stuff too soon but I could only just fasten my jeans at the weekend. I think it's the bump that's causing it (there's definitely a small one there) but on the other hand I might just be getting fat.....

beansprout · 03/04/2004 19:06

Piglit - I am exactly the same!!
I realised over the weekend that the constant slight discomfort I feel is because everything is getting a bit tight!

Have already added a splendid 3 inches to my waist, but don't want to go into maternity stuff just yet. Partly as I don't have any and partly, if I really honest, as this stage feels a bit early. Am going to try some cheap size ups for a bit and tell myself I will get some wear from them post October. Someone has also offered to lend me some stuff too

Am working at home today so am completely mooseing in my jogging bottoms, but will have to squeeze into my civvies later to go out again. Wish me luck!!

piglit · 03/04/2004 19:12

Good luck beansprout! I find the afternoons/evenings are much worse than the mornings. Some mornings I feel almost normal

I can't wait to get home and get my jogging bottoms on - bliss

Turtle35 · 03/04/2004 21:09

I just got home and the first thing I do now is change my clothes, I am desperate to get my trousers off and mostly because they are wool suits and itch like crazy. I went shopping this weekend and tried a size up on loads of trousers and most of them looked really odd, the only place that has really changed is my tummy and therefore a size up doesn't seem to work.

Hurray am 10 weeks today, so pleased I have only 2 weeks to go before scan. Hope all are feeling really well. Don't try and hide the bump any more is my advice if you are telling people you are pregnant then stick the bump out and be proud!!

florenceuk · 03/04/2004 23:27

Crossfingers was me! just felt odd revealing my pregnancy on here before I had told anybody else - even though I am virtually anonymous here as well - go figure.

I am still feeling sick-ish and have no problem fitting clothes - but would rather be fat and eating! Try elastic waisted trousers? I bought a size 12 elastic-waisted skirt from Next last time for work. I think i went into preggy clothes last time around four months, as I wanted to get some wear out of them. I also bought some things from Forme in the summer sale in July - not sure if I will last till then this time though.

beansprout · 04/04/2004 00:22

Good tips Florence and Turtle. Maybe elasticated waists are the way forward for the next couple of weeks. Am beginning to feel proud of my bump/fat, so hey, may just go for it.

The friend who guessed at the weekend just kept telling me I look really womanly and fab which was just what I needed to hear.

Congrats on 10 weeks Turtle. How are the others - Debra, Miify, Harman?

xxx
PS Have been lurking on the April strand today - guaranteed to fascinate/freak out a first timer!! That will us before long - eek!!!

piglit · 04/04/2004 12:07

I've been lurking on April too. It's fascinating (and terrifying...)!

motherinferior · 04/04/2004 12:14

Why don't you explore the lycra/stretchy sort of thing you can get in the M&S sporty/at home ranges - bootleg trousers and suchlike? I kept promising myself I would. Can't remember why I never got round to it, really.

miffy2 · 04/04/2004 12:46

Hi everyone, I was working abroad most of last week so missed my daily login!
Good to hear most of you are doing well. My sickness is also abating, thankfully. I find if I eat something every couple of hours and avoid getting hungry it helps. I got through yesterday without throwing up once!!!

As for clothes, I bought 2 pairs of stretch-waist combats and 2 pairs of linen-type low-slung trs in Primark and they cost about £30 in total - great to get me through the next month or so until I can fill out the maternity trousers. It really is tough as I have quite a noticeable bump (well I think so anyway) and it is quite high.

Every weekend I put away the clothes I no longer fit (so I won't depress myself) so my wearable wardrobe is a bit miserable right now!

11 weeks tomorrow...

Talk again soon

Toots · 04/04/2004 13:13

Good idea Miffy2, I might try Primark. Dorothy Perkins have some really OK non-maternity jogging bottoms: black, grey, pink 100% cotton, £14.

The weather (in south London) is so glorious, but when I was driving DD to childminder this morning, all I could think was how I was going to get it together in the wardrobe department over the next few months. This was the tricky bit for me last time, once I was in established bump/maternity clothes, I felt great, very liberated. Must put away once it doesnt fit, like Miffy does.

Had this panic yesterday when I met a woman who seemed even more zoned out than me. Turned out she was five and a half months pg with her second and she said she was still waiting for the tiredness to stop. Oh hell! It's mad isn't it, one minute, about 10.40 am, I'm thinking 'still feeling pretty normal' then ten minutes later have turned into zombie.

Dp just left and I told him I was 'checking in on the ladeez'. I'm getting quite attached to you lot!

piglit · 04/04/2004 13:22

Toots - LOL at "laydeez"

I have to admit that the first thing I do when I get into work is to check mumsnet!

beansprout · 04/04/2004 13:40

I tried to stay off MN one morning, but cracked by 11 o'clock. Oh dear. Am very attached to you lot too!

Putting away clothes that don't fit sounds like a mighty fine idea, as is buying some clothes that do (note to self Beansprout!!)

Know what you mean Toots - one min I think I am all a-bloomin', next I am SICK again, then I feel all bouncy, then need to go back to bed... etc etc
Plus the "am-I-aren't-I-a-moose?" stage...argghh!!

Did have my very first baby dream last night. And it was very lovely. Sniff.

Toots · 04/04/2004 14:51

Damn, wasn't going to look 'til lunchtime.
My inner moose has definitely become an outer one.

I DON'T CARE!!!! I'm coming out.

I AM MOOSE. HEAR ME ROAR!!!!!

Check out my furry, dribbly muzzle and my velvety antlers.

beansprout · 04/04/2004 17:00

Oh yes - for we are a herd of moosey ladeez!!

Moose power!!!

Turtle35 · 04/04/2004 18:52

I love it!! Definitely feeling very moosey today!

Actually feeling like I have indegestion? Never used to suffer with that, almost like I have to keep taking deep breaths of air to fill my lungs. I shouldn't of thought my uteris has moved up already?? that's sort of how it feels, like something is pushing up against my lungs. Somebody please tell me it's normal?? Probably just the fact that my trousers are to tight and restrictive. The little one is officially a feotus today! Hurray

piglit · 04/04/2004 19:04

Turtle - I've had the deep breaths thing too. I've read that it's to do with the fact that your body is working so hard and needs extra oxygen or something. I thought I was just getting unfit because I've not been to the gym as a result of my sickness and nausea!

beansprout · 04/04/2004 19:10

Big shout to the Turtle fetus!!

I too had made Piglit's assumption that it was because I am becoming Ms Lard Ass, but much prefer the increased-need-for-oxygen explanation.

Keep 'em coming!

piglit · 04/04/2004 19:58

I've just been checking out another website for advice on maternity clothes. It says "you may need something roomier from about the sixth month". What?? I'm already a total blob in danger of bursting out of my trousers and I'm only 13 weeks. There is no way I can survive in my current clothes until 6 months! Remind me never to check that website again. grumble grumble

Turtle35 · 04/04/2004 20:29

Oh good, I am pleased to hear that, I was never fit in the first place, can't remember the last time I ducked the door of a gym!! I have found shortness of breath more than usual and I gave up smoking when I found out I was pg and thought "shouldn't my shortness of breath be better now"? Feel a bit achy today, something is going around my office which sounds like a real bad flu and I hope to God I don't get it.

Piglet what website was it? All woman are different and I think we are the NORMAL ones who are showing before first trimester is over. Just means your baby is really healthy!!

Turtle35 · 04/04/2004 20:33

Piglet and Bean are we the only three on this thread who are first time mothers?

piglit · 04/04/2004 20:36

Turtle - it was a bbc parenting website. It's hard to see how you can avoid having a bump especially as the baby at 13 weeks is about 6cm (I think) together with all the fluid and everything else.

I'm going home soon and the first thing I'll do is put on my lovely jogging bottoms. Bliss...

Toots · 04/04/2004 21:32

Yes I'm doing the big lungfuls breathing thing too. At night I feel like my heart's beating louder, and I can well believe my body's doing lots of extra stuff.

Braved the gym this pm for first time in three weeks or so (last time just left me a wreck the next day). Thank god they had the music on so loud, and it was empty - I was retchin' like crazy. Slowed down and things improved, but definitely need to take it verrrry easy, which I've alwasy been quite good at.

Top tip: I'm probably preaching to the hydrated, but I feel loads better today, and I put it down to drinking enough water for once, as in definitely up towards the 2 litre mark. I'm lucky in that I work at home and can wee at my whim, but I do think it's done me good.

Sleep well my pretties

Turtle35 · 05/04/2004 00:06

Just checking MN before heading off to bed, Toots you are so brave going to the gym especially if you are retching during it!!

Totally agree on the water thing, I feel so much better the next day after drinking loads. I am going for the 2 ltrs a day also but it's getting up 3 or 4 times a night which drives me crazy.

Sleep well all - I know I won't!!

Turtle35 · 05/04/2004 14:21

Morning all - I have been meaning to let you all know that UK Living TV (cable channel) has been showing a series of excellent programs on pregnancy and child birth. Last night I watched a program on Special Delivery - VERY scary but - very informative. It's usually on about 7.00 or 7.30 most evening.
