Turtle - I've been watching this (as I do obsess about most of the pregnancy/birth programs) and I sit sobbing throughout the whole thing!

Bloody Hormones!!!

piglit · 05/04/2004 14:26

When my dh is out (he is sooo squeamish and I don't want to put him off at this early stage ) I often watch the discovery health channel which has loads of baby programmes. He's out tonight so I'll check out Living TV - thanks for the tip!

SpringChicken · 05/04/2004 15:15

Sorry to butt in - just wanted to say i watched that last night too turtle and i was nearly in tears! Those poor little babies

Turtle35 · 05/04/2004 15:27

I was bawling like a baby!! I struggle watching a woman in labour at the best of times but when I know that's gonna be me in the not to distant future, it scares the hell out of me! Is anyone else terrified of labour?

piglit · 05/04/2004 15:40

Yes!! But I've managed to persuade myself that it's ages and ages away....

scruff · 05/04/2004 16:20

Hi Scruff here, sickness not too bad now still off work will be going back hopefully after Easter.
My age is 36 this is my first baby abd I am due on Oct21st Hope everyone is well thanks for the support!!!!!!!
Also had booing in visit with miswife on Wed 24th March . Hospital appoint on May 21st Is this a very long time and should I have another appointment with the midwife does anyone know??

beansprout · 05/04/2004 20:01

Scruff, if your next appt is your anomaly scan, then that sounds about right. Are you having shared care and being seen by your GP/midwife in the meantime?

Am in complete denial about giving birth. I have built up the time I can look at those pages in the book and can now look at them for up to 30 seconds before I freak out (yep, it's my first!!).
I keep telling myself that when all is said and done it will be a couple of days of my life and will be over at some point. I also take comfort in the "you just want it out by the end" view, but I'm not sure how fed up I will have to be to actually welcome that much pain!!

Have been breathing in all day as have been in a meeting with a vile woman who I really don't want to know I am pg! She has gone now so I can breathe out - pass me those jogging bottoms!! Ahhhhhhhh......

piglit · 05/04/2004 20:14

beansprout - LOL at your comments about the pages in the book! I am exactly the same. I happily read about the baby's development and ooh and ah at the pictures of it as it develops but I haven't even looked at the giving birth pages yet. I accidentally opened the book at a page about stitches and almost shrieked with fright at the diagram. Pathetic, I know...

beansprout · 05/04/2004 20:16

Stitches?!! Arghhh! Oh (denial kicks in) maybe embroidery will take our minds off any pain? We can all give birth in a Jane Austen sty-lie. That sounds quite nice.

Bless.

Birth Schmirth. Beansprout and piglit, you can rely on me to keep my gory stories up my sleevies as this time I also plan to spend many happy days cruising up d'Nile (geddit?).

Turtle35, hope you slept better than you thought.

Someone's leant me a lovely sleeveless denim minidress from Blooming Marvellous which I wore today over cropped trousers. It's already changed my life.

Sitting here wondering what to make dd and I for tea. Fancy a full English breakfast, clearly not suitable. Or fish and chips, great chippy at end of road.....Must immediately go and sort out something to eat, at any rate.

Hope you all enjoyed some beautiful weather today.

florenceuk · 06/04/2004 13:14

Harman

It's a shame you can't get an early scan. Can't you tell them you're not sure of your dates now and want to check? Do they not offer a nuchal scan at 12-14wks in your area?

I have a packet of Rich tea biscuits and a roast beef sandwich telling me it's time for morning tea!

Toots · 06/04/2004 13:56

But then what are you going to have for elevenses Florenceuk?

Harman how lovely to have heard the heartbeat, that's great.

beansprout · 06/04/2004 16:22

Toots, your discretion around gory stories is much appreciated. I'm sure I will collect them like mad at some point but for now, am sticking my fingers in my ears and saying la la la.

I'll just stick with the lovely, beginning to bloom phase I think, for a bit anyway.

Cor, what an amateur I am, eh?!!

piglit · 06/04/2004 17:35

And me beansprout. This is the first lunchtime/afternoon I haven't been sick/felt sick/retched. Amazing.

beansprout · 06/04/2004 17:45

Tis a glorious day Piglit - hope you stay feeling non-sick

Mine still comes and goes but is definitely much, much better than it was. Am very relieved about this.

I think some evil elf took in my skirt this morning, because it has got tighter as the day has gone on. Boo.

piglit · 06/04/2004 17:49

beansprout - that's an amazing coincidence! The evil elf was at my house too. It took in my trousers AND shrunk my bra.

beansprout · 06/04/2004 17:51

That little b*stard has run amock in my wardrobe too! And he definitely started on my bras first.

Will have to stay one step ahead by buying new clothes that he is not familiar with - Aha!!

Harman - you're very welcome. Do let me know if you want to "chat" it through some more.

Funnily enough I feel rubbish today as well. I felt great yesterday and bounced around all day without feeling sick or anything. We celebrated with a curry last night (my first one in ages) and I feel crap today. The usual nausea and heartburn are back with a vengance. I can't wait to go home....

I definitely have a bump although it is only small. I thought it was just a pot belly but it's still there when I lie down. It's only about the size of a grapefruit. I did read that at about 12 weeks the bump moves from being hidden away in your pelvic region to being above your pelvis and hey presto the bump becomes more noticeable. Perhaps your bump is moving earlier because you've already had children? Is there any chance there could be two in there??

beansprout · 07/04/2004 12:49

Sorry to hear you are both feeling sick today. My sickness is coming and going - good days (hours) and then back to feeling as bad as I ever did. Had to give some serious thought to what I was going to say to the man on the train that I really, really thought I was going to be sick on earlier in the week. But lucky for both us, I made it to my stop without actually puking on anyone.

I look like a pot bellied pig. There is a tiny bump but you have to get past the rolls of fat to find it.
As you can tell, the antics of the elves are getting to me!!

It's definitely much harder than my usual post holiday/Christmas pot belly. And I can't really suck it in like I can with a normal pot belly.

I really think it's worth speaking to someone at an EPU and asking for a scan. You haven't had one yet, have you? I am sure that my baby (am I allowed to call it that already?) suffered much more with all my anxieties, panics and sleepless nights than with one quick scan to check it was ok and that there was a heartbeat. If I hadn't had that early scan after that bleed I would have been beside myself with worry. The real benefit of scans IMHO is that they can put your mind at rest. I understnad that dating scans are more accurate up to about 14 weeks.
