Not sure if it's of ant interest, but Dorothy Perkins had tonnes of reduced mat wear in Southampton yesterday. Mum lives there and called me to check sizes etc. Black trousers down to £5, skirt for £7.
Hope you're all well.

SpringChicken · 21/04/2004 14:13

Been really quiet here lately - hope everyone is doing OK.

Dp was trying to listen to baby's heartbeat through a toilet roll tube last night (Trick i picked up from a magazine) but couldn't hear anything - he was so disapoointed, bless

bzhmum · 21/04/2004 17:34

Hello everyone
I'm new to mumsnet, and also due in July (around the 23rd, I think)with my 1st baby
i'm living in sth of france, my man is french, but coming over to uk for birth
will be flying back end of may (around 33wks)
french pregnancy is much the same i suppose, but no-one's told me anythnig about avoiding blue cheese - that would probably be considered sacrilege here!
no-one's mentioned anything about eggs or follic acid either, my sister was really surprised, she said they make a really big thing of it at home.
am seeing an obstetritian and an ultrasound is available once a month, which is nice.
otherwise, i've just made a chocolate cake and i'm now off to eat a big piece.

littlerach · 21/04/2004 21:23

Welcome bzhmum, isn't it strange how different countries have diff ideas about pregnancy.
How are you getting on with it so far?

bossykate · 21/04/2004 22:51

hello everyone. not much news to report. we're endlessly reworking our name choices. i have entered the heartburn months - it won't be long now before i'm getting up 3 times per night to pee. very tired and depressed, but basically healthy. spd appears to be in remittance but i'm not taking any chances, will be buying support belt (nice) and have an osteopathy appt next week.

Quackers · 22/04/2004 16:30

Welcome bzhmum!!
BK, I'm suffering with heartburn loads now esp at night - it;s driving me mad! At least choccy doesn't give me heartburn though
Jems, I heard that worked too with the bog roll! Must try it, I have got my dopller of course, but a bog roll would be great. I heard it's from about 28-30 weeks you can hear, so keep trying!!
Littlerach, bless you, you are ever the source of great money saving tips!!!!!

I'n getting along fine.
I have been at the 3 times a night peeing stage since the beginning! But I seem to have the weakest bladder in the world anyway.
My biggest worry, in fact, is that vaginal borth might make me incontinent/increase my frequent peeing urges.
One of my 'well-meaning' friends told me to seriously consider a cesearian because of this. I would appreciate anyone's advice within this group on the matter
Otherwise, everything's fine, the baby's moving a lot now

Egypt · 22/04/2004 22:51

hello, sorry for butting into your thread, just popped over from may thread to say hi to old mateys - Jemma and quackers! how u doin? jems - have you changed your name?

Quackers · 23/04/2004 13:15

Hi Egypt!! Good to hear from u!! Will ocme over to May and catch up!
bzhmum, I am unfortunately the same with the weeing. It's only 10am and I've been 5 times already. I go about 3 times a night and baby isn;t even pressing down yet. I do have this all the time anyway but would not have a caesarian just to avoid those probs after. I think I'll just have to do extra pelvic floor. If you hve a c section, you might not do any pelvic floor at all and still end up with same prob anyway later on! Maybe some of us just have weak bladders!

OP posts:
bzhmum · 23/04/2004 13:26

I think i agree with you, esp. since reading up a bit on C-sections, there are disadvantages and benefits to both methods, but as this is my 1st I think I'll try for the vaginal, if poss.
I'm glad there are others like me! my mum and gran are the same - mum told me to drink a lot in the morning when I get up, i.e. 2 big glasses before getting out of bed,the regularly all day to make sure u get enough water, then nothing after 7 o clock in the evening. it does help a bit.
I'm lucky enough to have access to a loo whenever I want in my work - god knows what I would do otherwise

littlerach · 23/04/2004 13:32

I have always had a small bladder, whenever I have had a scan and had to drink all the water, I am in agony trying to hold it in!!! One radiographer made me go to the loo before she scanned me, as I was obviously in pain, then we actually watched my bladder fill up again on the screen!!!
Bad heartburn on Fri night, had a prescription for the world's biggest bottle of Gaviscon!!

Twigs!! Lovely to hear from you!! 2 weeks OMG!!!!!
bzhmum, that's a good idea, I will defo try that then. It makes sense I suppose to drink in the am and nothing after 7pm - thanks! I have to say having my first 'normally' has made me feel proud of being able to do it and just with gas and air. I was always a huge chicken and hate the unknown. So doing it myself was a huge acheivement and I so hope this one will be the same. Certainly not saying you don;t get that with a c setion. They are done because they are necessary, but it is amazing to do it yourself if you can!!
Littlerach, I must get some gav on prescription, costing me a fortune!

Morning ladies - How nice to see Twigs and Egypt again Will pop over and have a chat.

As ever, I am confused - When i first found out i was expecting i had worked my edd out as 4th July going by LMP which was 28th September - however, when i went for my first scan in December when i was meant to be 10 weeks, the sonographer said i was more like 8 so changed my EDD. At anomoly scan in February, sonographer said that going by measurements etc my EDD was 10th July and this is the date we should all go by - however, i was looking through my notes yesterday and they say that when i had my anomoly scan i was 20+2 weeks but going by the calculations of EDD being 10th July i should have only been 19+5.

Now i don't know whether to go by what the sonographer told us which is 10th July or to go by my notes which say 6th July................

littlerach · 25/04/2004 11:01

Hi, Jems, what a carry on!!
All I'd say is go by your notes, as that is what the MW or hospital will go by if they need to check anything, eg if you go over or are early.
Sorry that's not much help!!

Toothache · 25/04/2004 11:33

Like littlerach says SC just go by your notes. I know it probably feels like a huge amount of difference, but it's only 4 days. Just make sure you mention it at your next antenatal visit.

SpringChicken · 25/04/2004 13:00

Thanks guys

Had midwife appt. this morning - mentioned to her about my dates but she said to just go by the notes. She is my new midwife, never met her before but she is really nice - take her time explaining things etc.

Had routine bloods taken but she also wants to test for that thing GeorginaA has - something to do with liver function she said - mentioned to her i had been really itchy lately so she wanted to test me out.

Baby find apart from is still breech - heartbeat still suggesting a girl although will be happy either way.

Toothache · 25/04/2004 13:51

SC - They don't usually settle into a head down position until nearer 32 wks so don't worry about that. Ds was bum-first until 34 wks when he turned all on his own.... it was a bit uncomfortable! Glad you got that sorted and I hope the blood tests come back clear..... maybe you've got fleas from that mouse.

bzhmum · 25/04/2004 14:45

spring chicken, do girls have different heartbeats then?
i have to say i'm looking forward to comig over to UK and getting myself a midwife.
my french obstetrician was recommended to me by my french GP, as he delivered both her children. She said he was very experienced, and i'm sure this is true, but he tells me absolutely nothing at all - every visit he asks the same 2 questions:

  1. r u constipated?
  2. have you got piles? Even when i've just referred to these 2 fave subjects of his , he STILL asks the same questions 2 minutes later, as if he hasn't heard or listened to what I've been saying at all! All quite impersonal, given the choice I would have preferred a female dr/miswife, when I return to UK for the birth I will definitely insist on this.
madgirl · 26/04/2004 00:25

what's the score with this heartbeat boy/girl thing? i'm intrigued......
saw an old friend today who assumed i was due may 9th and not july 9th! oh my lord.

dinosaur · 26/04/2004 00:29

LOL madgirl! I am simply enormous now, and it is not just me who thinks so - within the last few days I have been told as much by people as diverse as my father's annoying cousin from Belfast and a charity door-to-door collector...

Quackers · 26/04/2004 00:45

Everyone loves to tell you how enourmous you are and while I love my bump and it means I have a healthy baby I feel like telling them all to shove their thoughts where the sun don;t shine!

OP posts:
bzhmum · 26/04/2004 10:43

I agree that everyone feels free to refer to your size/tell you horror stories/ask you if you're scared/slag off your chosen names and other helpful stuff like that, annoys me too, it's as if you become a public cusriosity when you're preggers.
there's a strand on the heartbeat thing - sounds a bit like bollocks to me.....

Quackers · 26/04/2004 11:36

LOL bzhmum! You're probably right! Although it was true for DD, her heartbeat was always high, around the 160 mark and this one is the same but I'm relying on that to mean anything!!!
Having a pedicure today!!! Lovely! have lots of vouchers to use for Clarins, from when I left work!

OP posts:
SpringChicken · 26/04/2004 13:16

Not sure what the figures are but one is meant to beat faster than the other - should've asked midwife really but as 2 different midwifes have said the same thing am starting to wonder whether it true !

Saw a friend last night for the first time since i have been pregnant - he could not believe the size of me - it doesn't really bother me because the only people who mention to me about it are friends or family - if someone i hardly knew said it, i would probably scratch their eyes out with mu new found long nails

Baby is moving sooooo much now - even kicked the remote control off of my tummy this morning obviously doesn't like having things resting on his/her head.
May give the malteser trick a go tonight
