congratulaions b mum - love the name too

Lupe · 27/07/2004 17:24

so glad for you bzhmum - what a relief that everything turned out well . Love the name too - I take it there's a Welsh connection?

I'm still waiting, but I must admit I've always had a slightly later date in mind as 'the date' (28/29 July), just based on my longer than normal cycle. Someone from my antenatal class was due on 'our' date too and she had hers a week early .

But I guess someone has to bring up the rear!

Anyway, I had a few twinges down below, combined with backache last night - not experienced enough to know if that's a true sign of labour coming on but I've got my fingers crossed...

Will be having another mw visit on Friday if babe still hasn't arrived and she's offered me a sweep. I was going to go for it cos I thought it was a easy way to avoid the dreaded induction but after reading a thread on childbirth I'm not so sure (heard it can make labour more painful). So maybe I'll just wait and stick to the sex and rlt route (so much more dignified than a finger up your wotsit!).

HelloMama · 28/07/2004 09:59

I'm having my reflexology session today to try and get things moving, fingers crossed it works! If not, I too have a midwife appointment on Thursday where I've been offered a sweep. Although I've read about how sweeps can make things more painful, I figure its going to be painful anyway so...

Anybody else got any news? It seems as if we're all kind-of in the same boat, Lupe, Quackers... I'm thinking of you both!

carwillin · 28/07/2004 10:38

Congratulations bzhmum, I'm glad parenthood is all it's cracked up to be.

HelloMama I hope your reflexology works, I wasn't able to get an appointment in time so I'm off into the hospital tonight. I'm starting to get a bit nervous now but hopefully it won't be as bad as some of the horror stories I've heard.

Just heard from Quackers on another thread - no news yet but is having trouble posting to this thread.

Hi everyone. Just a quick one as it takes ages typing with one finger (babe is asleep on me at mo...bless). I really hope things get going for you all soon. I can't believe dd2 is nearly 2 weeks old already. Lupe, I had a sweep with this pregnancy and went into labour the following morning. I had a home birth with not a lot of gas and air, and I came through smiling. I'd say go for it. Good luck all.

Lupe · 28/07/2004 12:07

Hi marmalade - sounds blissful!

how late were you had the sweep?

serenequeen · 28/07/2004 15:47

congratulations, bzhmum!

our dd was born at 6.49 on Monday morning at home weighing in at 10lb 8oz. my midwives were wonderful and i wholehearted recommend giving birth at home and in water!

will write more when have a chance.

we are very happy and proud!

HelloMama · 28/07/2004 16:44

Wow Serenequeen! Am so delighted for you, a big healthy baby! Congratulations! And Marmaladesun, you seem so chilled out! Glad everything is still A-OK.

I just came back from Reflexology session. Found it very relaxing except for the fact that it got baby very overexcited and it was awake throughout, so maybe it did stimulate something?? Anyway, I'm waiting....!

Good luck Carwillin, I really hope it all goes well, will be thinking of you.

tigermoth · 28/07/2004 18:30

hey, that's where you are serenequeen!! many congratulations on what sounds like a lovely birth

sweetkitty · 28/07/2004 20:27

well done serene queen congratulations

Quackers · 29/07/2004 10:15

Hope this works!
CONGRATS serene!!! Posted on your announcement thread!!!
Good luck again Carwillin, hopefully you'll be well in the throws of it now!!!
I've been in for monitoring as I kept finding big dips in the heartbeat, but baby seems fine so far. I'm just fed up and sick of thinking about it. Am going to just forget now and wait for the action to come to me!!! Good luck all. xxx

I just had my sweep done! Didn't hurt a bit but made me bleed which MW said was normal. Am now sat here waiting for the excitement to start.... will still probably be sat here next week, but hey, fingers crossed!

Quackers, really hope everything is ok with you? Let us know how you and baby get on. Take care.

madgirl · 29/07/2004 12:10

Fantastic news serenequeen, bzhmum and marmaladesun, many congratutulations on your babies. aren't they just the best? i have to say as well, i am even more in awe than i was with ds1. keep well and rest up you all. serenequeen, since we are both south london we should really get together in a couple of weeks (?)

madgirl · 29/07/2004 12:15

forgot to say good luck hellomama after your sweep, and hang on in there quacks. x

Quackers · 29/07/2004 12:16

That's great hellomama! said it wouldn;t be so bad didn;t I!! Did they say if your cervix was open at all or in a good position or anything?? The sweep certainly worked for me. I bled a tiny bit and started losing some fluid a few hours after. When labour began properly a day later it was quick. I hope it was a success for you!!!!

Quackers, thanks for your thoughts. The midwife said I was 1-2cm dilated with a very soft cervix, although the cervix is still slightly posterior. She said the sweep was very easy to do and I guess as it wasn't at all uncomfortable that was true. I've been having period-tpe pains since and some very strong BH, but nothing else really. I'm hoping it will all kick off soon! I know I shouldn't wish away the pregnancy as I'll probably want the baby put back inside as soon as its born but I'm just so ready now!

MarmaladeSun · 29/07/2004 21:23

Hi Lupe. I was 5 days overdue when I had the sweep. The mw said she doubted it would work at all, but the rest, as they say, is history! Serenequeen, many congratulations. Isn't home birth wonderful? I'd recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone. My dd2 was also a biggie, although not quite as big as yours, 9lb 6oz, and I'm sure it was because I was so relaxed with the labour that I got away with only one small tear and no stitches. HelloMama, yes I am chilled out with this one. I recovered rapidly, and haven't stopeed grinning since she was born! I'd forgotten how blissful motherhood really is. Anyway, as always, take care and good luck to those still awaiting the stork.

I'm still here so maybe the sweep and reflexology didn't work??! I did have strong cramps yesterday but nothing yet today. The bleeding has all settled down now, so another day waiting I think! Any news Lupe or Quackers? I can't believe Louise Redknapp and Melanie Sykes both beat us to it (both had boys!)

Lupe · 30/07/2004 13:13

Hi Hello Mama

No news as such but I'm still pretty relaxed about it. Just had the mw round and she says everything's fine, baby's heartbeat good (and very easy to find!), optimum position. They've also taken into consideration my possibly later due date (based on first scan), meaning that I'm alternatively term + 7 or term + 2 and therefore probably have a bit of time to play with before going down the induction route. I didn't have the sweep (and poor mw was in a bit of a hurry anyway so I don't think she would have had time!) and am just taking it easy...

So I'm just enjoying the sun and the sea down here on the South Coast.
