Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NorfolkTurkey · 10/05/2004 21:15

Oh yes - I was originally due on 11th July. Mollie arrived at 29 + 5 days. She's 30 + 3 today!

littlerach · 10/05/2004 22:42

congratulations, hope you are all well.
Is she still in SCBU?

Quackers · 10/05/2004 23:35

My God Norfolk - That is amazing

Has bought a tear to my eye reading that - i'm so glad Molly is doing well and now breathing on her own etc......I just can't believe we have our first July baby.

Congratulations

Toothache · 11/05/2004 12:18

WOW! NorfolkTurkey!! Sounds like she's doing fantastically well.
Congratulations and please keep us all posted on how she's progressing.

Is there a birth announcement thread started for you??

bzhmum · 11/05/2004 12:26

that's great - i really like her names too
brilliant news

carwillin · 11/05/2004 12:32

Congratulations Norfolk Turkey
She sounds like a little fighter, looking forward to updates of Mollie's progress.

serenequeen · 11/05/2004 12:48

nt, meant to say yesterday than, imho, that is a fine weight for that gestational age too - well done!

Freddiecat · 11/05/2004 17:32

congratualtions and glad to hear Mollie is doing so well!

karen01 · 11/05/2004 18:41

congratulations nt. Mollie sounds like a real fighter. keep us updated on her progress.

NorfolkTurkey · 11/05/2004 22:58

Thanks everyone. Of course I will keep everyone updated!

She is so georgous! I help her today and I couldn't stop blubbing! She just laid there snoozing, yawning and occasionally stretching. She opens her eyes at one point and decided that that seemed too much like hard work and promptly went back to sleep again! She also looks so cosy in her incubator. It makes me want to climb in with her!

The staff at the Whittingdon (North London) are amazing. They do such a wonderful job and will spend forever answering my questions and telling me how she is. I have so much admiration for them.

I got quite upset yesterday though as the baby next to Mollie's cot had passed away. She was the same age as my first and kind of bought things back. You never forget eh?

Back on a cheerier note - I am confident that she will be fine. She has got back to her birth weight so hopefully she'll be a nice little porker soon!!

I hope everyone is ok! I'll still be keeping an eye on the goings on!!

Quackers · 12/05/2004 23:36

You sound wonderful Norfolk. Mollie sounds like she's getting the very best care. It must be heart wrenching to see the baby next her not make it. Such a short life, it makes me very sad to hear that. However, I'm delighted everything is fine with her. She sounds a treasure. Are you staying with her at the moment??

OP posts:
NorfolkTurkey · 13/05/2004 02:36

No, we aren't staying as we only live 5 minutes away. We spend a few hours with her in the morning and again in the evening. I phone lots in between to check she is ok. It was difficult at first getting the times right as the SCBU is very small and sometimes you feel that you are getting in the way of the doctors.

Everything else revolves around expressing milk! My poor udders didn't know whether to believe me at first, having previously had two 'false alarms'. Thankfully the amber nectar is flowing freely now

Quackers · 13/05/2004 19:33

That's very handy Norfolk. Glad your boobs have reacted well to the expressing! I remember trying to express and getting only 2oz for my efforts! Had to persevere though. I'm so pleased she;s doing so well. She must be so tiny! I told DH about you and Mollie. We were imagining having our baby now and what it must look like at that gestation.

I only just found this news Norfolk! Many congratulations - what a brilliant little thing (2lbs 10...awww) and big thing for all of you! Will chart your progress. When do the SCBU let her go home?

littlerach · 15/05/2004 11:33

Well, I have had the best weekend evr, courtesy of DH for our anniversary. It was all a huge surprise, he took me to London, we stayed at The Dorchester, went to see Jerry Springer The Opera, then on Sunday we went to The Ivy for lunch!!! Do I have the best DH in the world?!! I think so!!!
So how is everyone else?

bzhmum · 16/05/2004 20:13

i'm excited today, because my baby-to-be is now head down! I reckon he/she moved towards the exit over the last couple of days, i could feel a kind of shift....it's amazing how they just seem to work this out for themselves
30 weeks now

NorfolkTurkey · 16/05/2004 21:55

Spots - the SCBU will let her go home when she's actively gaining weight, maintaining her own temperature and feeding well. They generally say expect to take your baby home around the due date but we're hoping it will be sooner.

Having problems expressing now - can't keep up with demand! Apparently those who have caesareans do experience problems with expressing. Got myself into a bit of a state last night as I felt like I was letting her down I know its daft but I couldn't help it! Anyway, the consultant is going to prescribe me some medication that will help. This is totally safe and has no side effects either me or Mollie. They only do it as a last resort which in my case it is. My morale will improve and Mol will have plenty of milk!

I had some kangaroo skin to skin contact last night. God that was wonderful although the look at first on Mollie's face was priceless! She soon settled down to sleep though! I kept looking at her and thinking - wow you were inside me!

Hope everyone is feeling ok!

Quackers · 16/05/2004 23:41

Your messages are amazing Norfolk! Keep em coming! I love hearing all about little Mollie, bless her, you must be so proud! You just be there for her, that's all she wants - she;ll get fed one way or the other but she'll not get a mummy like you! xx
Littlerach, sounds fab weekend! Glad you both got some time out!!

OP posts:
serenequeen · 16/05/2004 23:44

i think so, quackers! i'm so impressed with how positive and upbeat you are, nt. i don't imagine it's been too easy. i can't imagine what it would be like to have my little monkey already!

how is everyone else doing?

SpringChicken · 17/05/2004 12:16

Norfolk Turkey - I love reading your mesages too - i often wondered what it would be like if our little bundle arrived earlier than expected.

So glad Mollie is doing well Must've feel like a long time before you will be able to bring her home but at least you know she is in the best place for the time being.

Am getting to the stage now where i'm feeling tired alot of the time - 31+4 weeks now

Freddiecat · 17/05/2004 16:49

lovely messages Norfolkturkey. xx

well this baby has finally turned and has its hand above it's head half the time. I feel like I am having my cervix punched from the inside and it's very painful! 33 weeks tomorrow!

madgirl · 18/05/2004 14:51

ouch freddicat that sounds a bit painful. your weekend in london sounds a bit different from 5 days at centerparcs littlerach! mind you we had a great time, weird bicycling with bump tho! norfolk turkey i am thinking about you lots and lots, and I must say, your posts have forced me to get ds's newborn and 0-3 months clothes and sheets out to wash and get ready- you never know! so hope mollie continues to progress as well as she has been, gosh she must have been sooo tiny. well done you for expressing so far. 32 weeks tomorrow. just got ds's pushchair back from a service and we need to go and buy his buggy board now.
