Hi Hellomama, just popping in from August.
I had the same under the ribs pain with dd and went to the doctor with it. They weren't much help although thought it wasn't serious and it turned out not to be. I think it's very common and most likley just linked to very little room left in abdomen at late stages of preganancy meaning that other organs are forced up into the ribcage area so that this is stretched further. It should ease off once the baby engages and drops down a bit. HTH.

sweetkitty · 14/07/2004 15:46

Birth stories and Big Brother for me too now

Quackers · 14/07/2004 17:57

CONGRATULATIONS FREDDIECAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can;t wait to hear all about it!!!
Maramalade, hope you;re in the throws of it, or have your little bundle already!! Good luck if not, as I'm sure you'll not be long!

MarmaladeSun, Also hoping that you are in the throws of a lovely homebirth. Best wishes.

SpringChicken · 14/07/2004 18:26

Everything seems so real now - this is getting scary

I have tried everything now to get this baby moving - long walks, fresh pineapples, running up and down the stairs, knackering myself out doing loads of housework - Even tried sex last night as a last resort and absolutely nothing...............what else can i try????
Bought some castor oil from the chemist but the smell of it nearly made me puke!

I just don't get it - for the last 3 weeks i have had niggles, aches and pains and then suddenly, last Friday..........everything stopped and now i don't have any niggles, aches or pains - What am i doing wrong

So so happy for FreddieCat and Madgirl great news. Although i called a woman in sainsbury's a horrid name behind her back yesterday because she had a beautiful newborn baby and i didn't!
Told DP i think we are just destined to have a bump not a baby!

bunny2 · 14/07/2004 20:48

Quacks, I hope that baby turns and you can avoid a section - less than a week to go!!! I'm excited for you.

MarmaladeSun · 15/07/2004 12:29

Gggrrrrr. I don't believe it (in Victor Meldrew style voice). The midwives have just been, and upon examination, and despite being in a lot of pain over the last few weeks, I am told my cervix isn't favourable! She did a membrane sweep (how unconfortable?) but said she'd be surprised if it had any effect . I'm gutted. My home birth is looking less and less likely by the day due to the size of the baby. I have to go to the hospital on Monday afternoon to be assessed and discuss induction, probably for the end of the week. I was so convinced it'd be good news. Anyone got any better news?

Quackers · 15/07/2004 14:11

So sorry Maramalade!! . How frustrating. How many days overdue are you now????

Bunny, it is good news, baby has decided to go back to plan and tip back head down. I rang the maternity unit last night as I thought my GP telling me to wait another week and be almost 40 weeks was too much. The midwife agreed and told me to go in. She scanned and baby had turned. Head is not well down at all though, so I could be in for a wait here! Was sort of disappointed too though as they would have given me a section this Friday! So here I am, with the prospect of another possible 3 weeks maybe more ahead yet!

Quackers. I am now 5 days overdue, so at my appointment on Monday (assuming I make it that far and hoping I don't) I will be 9 days over. I know I could just let nature take it's course and wait it out and not be induced, but she's getting bigger by the day. A small ray of light is that I have been getting intermittent pains since the sweep; most probably due to the poking and prodding though and nothing else. Really glad your baby is playing the game now and is in a good position; that's a load off your mind isn't it?

carwillin · 15/07/2004 19:05

MarmaladeSun - Nightmare!!! What is it with these July babies??

Been to the midwife today and my blood pressure is up, so I've got to go in for monitoring tomorrow in the day assessment unit. I'm hopeful that I won't be home until baby is born but knowing my luck who knows!

Best wishes to everyone else waiting.

MarmaladeSun · 15/07/2004 21:01

LMAO Spring Chicken. I've tried it all too, and still nothing. Raspberry leaf tea by the gallon, pineapples, walks with the dogs, hot curry, hot chilli, housework...all to no avail. I've had 3 shows, loads of pains and now I'm just Soooooooooo fed up waiting. At the school sports day on Thursday a woman I had never seen came up to me and scrutinised my bump, and declared 'Due about November are you?'. I could have strangled her! OMG, the thought of still being pregnant then puts the fear of God into me! DH is going to the chinese in a mo so I'll have something spicy and see if that has any effect. Anyone else going to pip us to the post?

Quackers · 15/07/2004 21:06

Good luck Carwillin, hope all goes ok!
Maramalade, I was reading up on sweeps today and they say it has a 50% success rate! I had one (without being told till after!) at 7 days overdue and within a few hours, trickled waters and labour was in the early stages. I want another this time, if I go over. They say it is more successful if you are already a little dilated, so maybe you could ask for another sweep at your appointment?
I'm actually pleased now that I'm not having a section. I just was overwhelmed last time with achievement, doing it myself and despite the pain, it's so worth it, so I'm just hoping I won;t go too far overdue as head is nowhere near low down!

marmaladesun- my cervix wasn't favourable when I had my sweep last month but I went into labour the next morning. Good luck

bunny2 · 15/07/2004 23:30

Just popping in to say Good Luck to all here esp Quacks, how are you mate??? I cant wait to hear your good news. Bxxx

bunny2 · 15/07/2004 23:37

Jemma, nipple-tweaking!! You need to do about 1 hour on each every day to have any effect (get someone else to do it for you). It is meant to work.

sweetkitty · 16/07/2004 11:58

Good luck over the weekend MS and anyone else who is still waiting! I'm not due till August and the waiting is already getting to me so can only sympathise with you ladies

Anyone heard from Springchicken?

Quackers · 16/07/2004 16:16

Hey BUnny, left a message a few days ago for you on your Nov thread, you maybe missed it, never mind! I'm fine thx!! Will come over n say hello.
Jems, Hi, good to hear from you chuck!!!! They come when they want to and it's a pain in the backside!! Have to agree with nipple tweaking. They say lots and lots. 15 mins every hour and should release enough hormone if bubbs is ready to come!! My first was 8 days late and was really hard waiting, esp when they will let you go 2 weeks before induction!!

HelloMama · 16/07/2004 18:00

I woke up this morning with a very painful Braxton Hicks... or could this have been the elusive contraction I keep hearing about?! I also had the same thing at lunch time, but nothing since. Could this mean things are starting to happen? Really don't know what to expect as this is my first baby! Any ideas? I haven't had a 'show' yet though.

serenequeen · 17/07/2004 09:19

hi everyone. not much time to post here now that i am on maternity leave (ahem ).

i'm now 37.5 weeks and hating it - but at least the weather is kind to pg ladies atm, long may it continue!

good luck everyone and i will keep scanning this thread for news

MarmaladeSun · 17/07/2004 12:29

Nothing to report everyone. Now 2 days overdue and absolutely disgusted!!! How can this be? This morning was a nightmare as when I took the kids to school, I got asked the dreaded 'Not 'ad it yet?' question at least a dozen times. My face was aching from smiling through gritted teeth, LOL. Feel like a masochist as I'm praying for pain! sigh Oh well, off to mooch around and wait. Hope you're all well, and that something is happening for someone.

Toothache · 17/07/2004 12:33

GOOD LUCK JULY MUMS!!!

Marmaladesun - How frustrating. I am thinking labour vibes for all of you..... and myself too!

MarmaladeSun · 17/07/2004 12:58

Hey you know the sweep that wasn't going to be successful? Well, I'm pleased to announce that Siobhan Caitlin was born at 11.42 am on Friday at home, weighing 9lb 6oz!!! I will post on the birth announcements thread later, but just wanted to let you all know. Hope you're all well.

MarmaladeSun · 17/07/2004 13:00

Toothache, thanks. Keep those thoughts coming! As you (probably) know I am booked for a home birth, but my lovely mw goes on hols on Saturday and I don't really like the replacement and have only met her for 5 mins once. Certainly wouldn't be happy to have her in my own home throughout my labour, whereas the 'real' mw puts me at ease every time I see her. I really really hope labour starts in the next couple of days as I can see my home birth disappearing rapidly .

sweetkitty · 17/07/2004 14:56

good luck marmalade and the rest of the July mums, I'm on maternity leave now so also playing the waiting game.

I can just imagine you all tweaking nipples with one hand, drinking RLT with the other!

madgirl · 17/07/2004 17:31

oh my - just freddiecat since me. you must be all doing your nut! at least it's not boiling hot outside. hang on in there.
ds 2 is dominic john and is dreamy but i am not - have a perianal haematoma and am bed bound and in agony i have to say. BUT when i look at dom i just melt.....jems, it was a curry and a s**g that got my waters gushing! thank GOD it didn't happen in sainsburys is all i can say...
good luck everyonexx
