Congrats fod - very beautiful names.

kjh Urg? I can't be next?? Isn't there about three before me? Thought I was labouring yesterday, with twinges all morning, then a burst of stupid woman activity cleaning, then felt sweaty and a bit spaced out and irrational, but it settled down to nothing by evening - buh! Husband not back from work til Friday night, so no chance of any more labour-producing sex or at least, not with DH Grin

Lula2515 · 08/04/2014 14:15

Hello! What a lovely thread. I'm currently 10+1 after having a mmc in December. Generally freaking the hell out and can't think of anything til my scan I've booked on the 16th (couldn't hold out to my nhs one on the 24th) x

kjh5 · 08/04/2014 14:31

tea! Of course you can go first

I really shouldn't queue jump but I got a bit excited after a few continuous hours of contractions this morning and so was feeling pretty disappointed when it tailed off. I have just eaten about half a pineapple after a purposeful fast march/waddle to the shops to try and jump start things again. But in deference to you I shall refrain from my next planned labour-starting activity of scrubbing the bathroom floor on all fours and have a sausage roll and a snooze instead Grin. I do hope it isn't too much longer for you!

Welcome lula! Congratulations on your pregnancy! Quite a few of us had private scans before the NHS one to get some reassurance so here's hoping the time passes quickly for you xx

polkadotdelight · 08/04/2014 15:24

Wooooooop! We saw the midwife for the 17 week check this afternoon and we heard the heartbeat. The midwife suggested to DH that he recorded the sound so now I have 6 seconds of it recorded on my phone! Wish he'd recorded a little longer!

HopefulHamster · 08/04/2014 15:38

Has anyone still not got a bump at around 14 weeks? This is my second child, surely there should be more than squishy belly by now? Paranoia is not my friend...

Incidentally, I was talking to my mum last night when she revealed for the first time 'oh I had an amnio when I was pregnant with you.'

'Why, surely that wasn't procedure?'

'Oh,' she says, lighthearted, 'it's because two of my cousins had spina bifida.'

WHAT? She has never mentioned this before! I took the regular amount of folic acid (assuming I remembered every day, which I didn't), but I would've taken the 5mg amount if I'd known. Ah, another thing to be paranoid about until I get to 20 weeks. Happy days.

Anyone else have parents reveal stuff like this at a late stage?

squizita · 08/04/2014 16:18

Hamster I have the tiniest whiff of a change of shape at 17 weeks. Apparently it's all there, just back in the pelvis.
Oh yeah and my mum only decided to go "Oh yeeeaaaah, your gran had several losses, one late term." relevant much? Luckily I think she must've had what I have and has been diagnosed.

Congratulations lula and polka, and welcome!

KJH, you sound ready to go, and much more committed to triggering it off. The fast walk feels beyond me right now . Weren't there some other folks above us on the list though?

LondonJen · 08/04/2014 18:06

Thank you for sharing that kjh, that sounds so similar!, it does make me feel much better. Up to now I've been feeling it was his decision but the thought of another 5 days got too much! Ask me how I feel on Mon when I've had MIL in my face all weekend -then I'll wish he waited even longer! It's 1st grandbaby their side and to say much wanted would be an understatement. 2 years ago she asked for one for xmas!!

He he place your bets tea or kjh gets there first?!

Hi Lula congratulations! You're in the right place. I wish you a very uneventful pregnancy. Not long now till your scan. You need some good weekend plans to break up the week and take your mind off it for a while.

Oh my gosh Polka what an awesome midwife! How fantastic. Really pleased for you. Hope you're feeling more relaxed now Smile

Eek hamster I'm sure it's fine but I can see that would feel unsettling! Parents eh? I am 14 weeks tomorrow (1st baby) I have the start of a bump below my knicker line but not something anyone else would be able to see esp with clothes on. dp can tell but not as easily as me, he has to have me move to the right angle! Everything I read said bump would appear at 16 weeks so I was surprised but I am little.

CbeebiesIsAboutToPop · 08/04/2014 18:13

Kjh and tea, can I join you in the next ones? I know I'm only 35+3 weeks but I'm just so fed up! Have I mentioned I have an irritable uterus? I've woken up the last 3 nights now wondering if this is it as the tightenigs are so strong an painful, but after a couple of hours it all goes off again.

I also just had a sudden coughing fit and thought my waters may have broken, but as there has been nothing since I think it's just wishful thinking...which also mean I just wet myself Hmm

Anyway I'm reading all the messages and responding in my head but I'm just too grumpy, grouchy and tired to respond here.

Hello all the newbies, great to see you here, wishing you boring, uneventful pregnancies that flash by in the blink of an eye! :)

kjh5 · 08/04/2014 18:34

tea there def were a few infront of us! birds and Kat spring to mind. I hope they pop in to say they've had their bubbas and then we can queue jump guilt-free! Grin

cbeebies I felt the same as you at 35! You are more than welcome to jump ahead. I had my first set of
Contractions at 36+5 although I'm glad the bubba has decided to cook a bit more. I'm fully convinced he is fully baked now, he is more than welcome to make an appearance tonight!

wigwam33 · 08/04/2014 19:50

Mabel I second what LondonJen said - my symptoms subsided around 9 weeks. In fact I had an absolute meltdown about it as I managed to convince myself I'd had a MMC because I felt so much better. DH managed to calm me down eventually. [beware though - my nausea and tiredness came back with full force around 12 weeks for a couple of weeks, during which time I got a nasty cold too].

Fod HUGE congratulations! Such wonderful news. Welcome to the world little Alexis Susan.

MammySam · 08/04/2014 20:13

Hey mabel I joined this group as my symptoms subsided at 9wks too! (Maybe slightly beforehand actually but i realised at 9wks) and like you I panicked (am still having moments of panic too!) and that's why I came to this thread, for a bit of support and insight from others afterlondonjen recommended me.
I've had a small amount of nausea in the last few days on and off but other than that not a sausage!
I'm trying and failing! to keep calm and remember this threads mantra (TWAP!) and try to fee lucky for each day that there's no 'worsening' :)
Hugs to you x

MrsGiraffe12 · 08/04/2014 21:03

Hi ladies.

Just a quick message really Following up about my last post about abdominal pains behind the belly button and above it. My gp thinks I may have the start of something called diastasis recti, separation of the abdominal muscles. Apparently it's quite common in pregnancy and there's nothing they can do till baby is born. Most cases resolve themselves with certain postnatal excersize and/or physiotherapy but some cases need surgery :-S

Also the pain behind the c section scar could potentially be indicative that I may have placenta preivia (where placenta embeds into scar tissue) so have to have a scan for this.

Add it to the horrendous sickness and fatigue from early on, to the horrid various veins I now have and the rising blood pressure for which I'm on meds for and the fact I'm high risk of preterm delivery, re occurring pre eclampsia and potential PPH plus a planned (by the medics) c section, I can safely say even though I'm excited to meet my baby, i throughouly hate being pregnant. Only 21 weeks till elective section - I can get through that right?!

Urgh, rant over ;-)

kitkat321 · 08/04/2014 21:05

So I'm please to say that the it's nearly the end of my dreaded 5+4 day and no mc (although there are still a few hours yet).

This is officially the longest I've been pregnant.

No nausea or dizziness today - just lower back pain, sore boobs and wind (how glamorous).

Finally caved and told my other half last night - he's a bit shocked - especially as the news came on the same day as we got an offer on our house and the realization that from mid June we'll be homeless and living with my folks for a few months.

Fingers crossed for friday when I'll be 6 weeks and finally feel confident enough to book an appointment with the mw and epu.

CorporeSarnie · 08/04/2014 21:21

MrsG, some degree of diastasis is very common in pg, I had a small separation (about 2cm postnatal). You can try not to use your tummy muscles as this can make it worse, for instance by rolling to a seated position vs sitting up, using your arms to pull/push up in the bath. But except in very bad cases they do knit back together again. Again avoiding situps is a good idea, but a physio referral would help. There isn't much you can do to prevent it, but I did get back to having a flat tummy before I got pg again.

CorporeSarnie · 08/04/2014 21:25

Well done kitkat on your day of positivity. I wish I could say that the wind will go away, but I spent all day today hoping that no-one had heard me Blush.

kitkat321 · 08/04/2014 21:30

Thanks CorporeSarnie - it's not even wind but the horrid pain you get in your tummy when you've got trapped wind - not nice but not as bad as proper wind - at least I can wait to get home and try to properly let on rip as it were Blush

fedupofrainydays · 08/04/2014 21:55

I'm 13.4 weeks today and have a bump. But I show really early as I've got a short body so there is no where to go but out! Plus I'm pretty small and slim too. It doesn't go down when I lie down or overnight now so I've stopped thinking it's just bloat! Difficult to hide at work - waiting til next week to tell them. But I have friends who are almost six months preg and you can't really tell - so everyone is different.

To those worried about symptom loss - mine went away for a few days about 9 weeks and then came back. But I've also had a mmc so I know how stressy it is. I paid for another private scan (a week after my NHS one) at 9 weeks to check all was ok - then I would let myself believe that symptoms loss didn't always mean bad news.

Well done kitkat on being positive and telling your other half! Getting past mc dates is a real milestone (well it was for me!)

DH also hasn't told his family yet. Mine have known since bfp, but he's not that bothered about telling them! He told his mates in the pub tho - typical. It annoyed me as we haven't had our screening test results back in yet. Think of they haven't called by end of tomorrow I will assume low risk. Hoping the phone won't ring.

Hope everyone is ok - we have a funny mix of people in very early scary days of preg and those fed up and ready to have their baby! I guess it keeps it varied!

MabelMay · 08/04/2014 23:09

Thanks everyone for reassurance. Mammysam we're at very similar stages then. I'm 9+5 today.

Seems I spoke too soon. The nausea has returned with a bit of a vengeance today - so although I feel pretty hideous I'm actually rather happy! I guess it shows, like so many of you have said to me, that the symptoms can still come and go. I had about 4 or 5 days of no sickness before this so it's weird isn't it... I wonder if it's to do with the hormones peaking and waning or if it's more to do with what I"m putting in my mouth.

fedup so your MS going and coming back sounds just like what just happened to me. I think you're lucky to be showing so early! It's nice to have a 'bump' rather than flab. I feel like I'm showing already but it's obviously just bloating. However, I can't believe everyone hasn't noticed how ridiculously huge my boobs have become - and not in a sexy way sadly. Quite looking forward to being official so I can start explaining my burgeoning body.

kitkat - congratulations on reaching this first milestone - hope things continue in an uneventful way for you. I definitely found those first few weeks from BFP to about 6 weeks the most stressful - I think there's so much 'settling in' going on with the embryo that you feel especially vulnerable. Wishing you well.

MrsG totally relate to your rant. Though I feel blessed to be pregnant I'm not a fan of the pregnancy experience - I also have had two previous C-sections and will need to have an ELCS for this one. Also considered high risk. But if the negativity gets to you a bit sometimes, just picture that little babe inside you and the new addition to your life and tell yourself it's all worth it. Because it is! But rant away of course!

Everyone else, hello hope you're all well. Healthy baby vibes all 'round.

kjh5 · 08/04/2014 23:22

I just found this really useful article about pre-labour contractions which has helped me understand what the hell has been going on for the past two weeks and calmed me down a bit after a snotty, cry-fest during which I told DH I'm never going to go into proper labour as I've had an entire day of contractions roughly 10min apart that seem to last FOREVER and yet don't progress...

I know everyone experiences labour differently but this is worth a read for anyone struggling in the 3rdtri wondering why those damn contractions keep fading away!

In all honesty I'm a bit sad to be leaving ;( your all so wonderful and I will truly and deeply miss our chats... Feel a bit lost typing that xxxxxx
Good luck to you all - and your happily ever afters xxx

MabelMay · 09/04/2014 05:56

Thanks fod - here's wishing you a wonderful time with your new baby - please feel free to pop in any time!

mammysam btw I too have now read about loads of people's symptoms waning at 9 weeks so it's obviously very common. How long til your 12 week scan? It's such a slow wait isn't it??

JBrd · 09/04/2014 08:46

13+6 here, and no sign of a bump, just all flab Sad I'm going to a wedding this weekend and really need to think about what I can wear, as I have put on quite a bit of weight! Not sure that any of my usual wedding outfits still fit me...Sigh.

fod Let us know how you and fodbaby get on! Good luck with it all.

kitkat That's your first milestone, well done! Keep positive and now focus on the next one, one step at a time.

I also had a great variety of symptom-free and symptom-full days in the first 12 weeks - some days, I'd feel on top of the world and full of energy, other days I could barely make it out of bed. Hang in there, all of you who are struggling through the first trimester!

I has just dawned on me that I am now in the 2nd trimester Shock Honestly, I never thought I'd get here, time has been crawling since I got my BFP. But the sickness is definitely easing off, and I have some evenings where I feel quite normal, rather than something the cat dragged in Grin. Having said that, I found myself spectacularly retching in the toilet on Saturday morning, first time in this pregnancy, not sure what that was all about?! All the while DS (nearly 3) was watching, asking me to come downstairs and play with him Confused. Now I'm hoping that I can soon stop eating like a bottomless pit and get a decent exercise routine going again...

wigwam33 · 09/04/2014 10:04

Lula welcome. You'll find plenty of support here.

polka SO pleased for you that's wonderful. I can't wait until I'm at the stage of being able to hear a heartbeat with a doppler. Going to ask MW at next appointment but I'll only be about 16 weeks so not sure of it's too early.

kitkat hoping for a really good one for you this time. Well done on reaching a milestone too.

fod do pop back and let us know how you are getting on - if you can find the time, ha!

LondonJen · 09/04/2014 11:01

MrsG you poor love. I don't doubt how wanted your baby is but goodness that's quite a list of things to contend with. I am totally sure you can manage it for 20 weeks though. It will be worth it.

Hope you have a better day today cbeebies!

Whoop whoop kitkat well done on your milestone. Lovely to hear.

Aw hurray for your bump fedup! Well if you don't mind me saying it makes me feel much better to hear your other half isn't leaping to tell his parents either! fx for you no phone calls.

Mabel bless you it came back to remind you it wasn't quite done! Yuk nausea is the worst.

Good luck Fod. So happy for you that Alexis is in your arms. And I do like that name. Stay well x

Jbrd sounds like you need a shopping treat! Congrats on tri 2! Your son clearly isn't going to let a bit of puke get between him and his fun lol. Did you do any partic exercise when you were pg with him?

I am going to try out the antenatal pilates class round the corner but you can't go till after 16 weeks. Hope it will help with my core muscles (I swear I have none at the mo!) esp as my boobs were big before and now I'm up 2 cup sizes I keep finding myself with very rounded shoulders at the dinner table. Sitting up straight is a real effort. Need all the help I can get.
